I’ve been in all these clubs since freshmen year, and I am currently Junior Class President. I am also involved in Planned Parenthood’s Pierce County Teen Council. My favorite class is history because I find a lot of interest in connecting our future with the past. What is your least favorite class and why? My least favorite class is math because I’m terrible at math.
Happy October Sharks! We have all survived the first month of school, congrats! I have very much enjoyed visiting some clubs at their first meetings. This fall we have a lot coming for us. The most important part of this season is DUES! Early bird dues are due November 1st and all dues are due December 1st. In order for your club to receive the early bird patch for your club banner, you must turn in your dues of 15 members minimum before November 1st. Trick or Treat for UNICEF is also coming up! It is highly recommended that you and your club participate in this fundraiser. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the District’s Eliminate Project. Key Club week is the first week of November. Show off your Key Club spirit and spread the word of Key Club’s greatness. Last but not least, the Dance for Eliminate is coming up in November! In order for this event to be successful, I need your help by spreading the word! If you have any questions or concerns regarding the dance, feel free to ask me. Have a great month, Key Clubbers. Hello everyone! My name is Roshni Chandwani, and I am your 2013-2014 International Trustee. I’d love to get the chance to talk to all of you, get to know you, and work more closely with you. Trick-or-Treat collection boxes are now available for order! By clicking on this hyperlink, clubs can find out if they will automatically receive supplies. They can also order up to 8 kits of 25 boxes each at no cost from the Kiwanis store. With the Membership Update Center, advisors will no longer receive a password on paper through the mail. The emails that were sent to all advisors and Kiwanis secretaries last week direct them to www.keyclub.org/muc. Only advisors whose information is up to date in the database will be able to complete this process. Two more countries, Sierra Leone and Gabon, have eliminated maternal and neonatal tetanus! Congratulations to everyone who participated in this project! We’ve saved 1,570 lives just in the past week, but we still have a long way to go. We still have $61, 898 left to raise the $2 million we need to reach our goal by September 30th. Thank you for everything you’ve done so far! Yours in service,

Membership Update Center The Kiwanis International IT Team has created a tutorial video on how to use the Membership Update Center. Click here to access/ download this tutorial. The MUC will be down September 1st through 9th due to the creation of year-end reports. If you have any questions, contact memberservies@kiwanis.org. Remember that the club advisor and secretary are the only ones who can access the Membership Update Center. Membership Recruitment With the new school year just starting, it’s important to focus on recruitment within your clubs. To help you guys out, I’ve attached several resources that your clubs can use to gain new members. Click here to access Key Club’s new recruitment video, Shoes. Key Club Swag The Kiwanis Family Store has tons of literature that you can order for free! Click here to access this literature. The Kiwanis Family Store is also having a sale on tons of Key Club merchandise, including shirts and sweatshirts. Click here if you want to check it out.
The process is easy! You can participate in five simple steps: 1. Decide with your club what kind of fundraiser you’ll do. 2. Order your collection boxes. 3. Collect donations. 4. Fill out the gift form and submit it with your club’s donations. 5. Celebrate! You’re helping save moms and babies. Clubs that raise and submit more than US$250 by December 31, 2013, will receive a special banner patch. So don’t forget to send in the funds you raise by the deadline!
Scare up some funds and fun this Halloween by participating in Trickor-Treat for UNICEF. It’s a great opportunity to collect donations instead of candy or to bring club members together for a fabulous event or party. All money collected by Kiwanis-family members through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF will once again support The Eliminate Project and help save moms and babies. Did you know? A proud participant in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF since 1994, Key Club has raised more than US$6 million for child survival and development programs around the world—from efforts to eliminate iodine deficiency disorder to HIV/AIDS initiatives in Kenya and Swaziland. Starting in 2012 Key Club joined other Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs to Trick -or-Treat for UNICEF to raise money for The Eliminate Project. You could raise funds door-to-door, host a trunk-or-treat, zombie walk, horror fest, pumpkin smash, “Twilight” dance, haunted house or even an old-fashioned pumpkin pie baking (or eating) contest…or come up with your own idea!

Each day places an emphasis on service, to promote Key Club within our homes, schools and communities and to make Key Club a household name. Officially announce Key Club Week in your community with a proclamation and refer to the Key Club public relations manual to get great tips on how to publicize Key Club in your community. TUESDAY, NOV. 5 Kudos to the Key players—Personally thank all the Key Club supporters you know—teachers, advisors and other Key players. Write thank-you notes, host an appreciation dinner or do something uniquely your own style to recognize the contributions of these special people. WEDNESDAY, NOV. 6 Connect the Ks—Key Club is the largest high school service organization in the world and is a member of the Kiwanis family. Celebrate the entire family of Kiwanis by getting the whole gang involved. Connect with local Kiwanis, Circle K International, Builders, Kiwanis Kids or Aktion clubs and team up for a joint service project. THURSDAY, NOV. 7 Bring a friend to Key Club—More members = more service. Increasing the amount of service Key Club performs increases the impact Key Club has on the world. Join us in eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus around the world in a night of dance! Pre-order your ticket at dancetoeliminate.eventbrite.com. Pre-ordering your ticket will document your name on a master list so you can enter the dance with ease! Every preordered ticket must have a name registered to it. In other words, if you’re pre-ordering a ticket for a friend, you have to order a separate ticket with their name. The dance is casual. It is recommended to wear ELIMINATE gear at the dance. If you do not have ELIMINATE gear, contact a Lieutenant Governor in your area. ELIMINATE merchandise will be available at the dance! The dance will be at Stadium High School and free parking is provided. The parking lot is on the west side of the school on North 3rd St. Make sure you bring a few extra dollars to the dance!
