The Paint Tacoma Beautiful Lincoln Crew definitely deserves the spotlight for this edition! For several days, 10 hours a day, crew members worked long and hard to improve two households in the Tacoma community. The volunteer coordinator, Marlene Carrillo, worked countless of hours alongside her son who is also a Key Clubber at Lincoln, Loren Carrillo. Loren Carrillo attended DCMs and club meetings in order to recruit members to join the cause. This family has done an amazing job. This project ended up reaching out to the entire division. After this event, it definitely brought members within the division closer and ever and it made many unforgettable memories!

Special Thanks To: Marlene Carrillo— Thank you for your incredibly hard work and passion for volunteer work! Us Key Clubbers had an amazing time volunteering under your coordination and you have done a spectacular job. I think we are all looking forward to any more upcoming events you have in store!

Get to know your LtG! How did you join Key Club? — I was introduced to Key Club by my own outtie, Trang Tran, at my freshmen orientation. Of course, I instantly fell in love with everyone’s enthusiasm and crazy spirit. What was your favorite service project? —

Athena (Tina) Sok 1845 E. Harrison St. Tacoma, WA 98404 sok.athena@gmail.com (253) 310-3271

My favorite service project was really recent. It was the Paint Tacoma Beautiful project. I really enjoyed the fact that the whole division got together. We all bonded so well and had so much fun. It was an experience worth remembering!

Happy August, Sharks! Alas, the last month of summer… I hope you all have had an amazing summer and of course, make best of the very few weeks you have left! School is just right around the corner and we have to very well prepare ourselves for not only school, but Key Club! Seattle Rally is also coming up quick and it is never too late to register! Invite all your friends and even family to come check it out. It’s definitely an experience you do not want to miss out! Make sure you attend the August DCM. It’s one of the most important DCMs of the year and you should definitely make it. It’ll be a blast if we get all the clubs together to hang out and get a head start on the new school year. I hope you all have been doing great these days. Keep doing great work out there. I’ll see you all real soon! With love and service,

Athena Sok

Hello everyone! My name is Roshni Chandwani, and I am your 2013-2014 International Trustee. The three districts that I serve are Eastern Canada, Kentucky-Tennessee, and Pacific Northwest. I'm currently a senior at Cypress Falls High School in Houston, Texas. I've been a part of Key Club since my freshman year, and I can honestly say that joining Key Club was the best decision I've ever made. One of the main things that I will be emphasizing this year is the Youth Opportunities Fund because it's a resource that's extremely under-utilized, and I know that your clubs could really benefit from this grant. Another thing that I'm focusing on this year is Key Club week. Membership recruitment is always a priority, no matter how large your district is, and Key Club week is the perfect opportunity for your district to grow. And finally, I want you all to know that you can contact me at any time! As a club officer and as a district board member, I was always hesitant to contact my trustee, and that should never be the case. If you have a question or if you just want to say hi, send me an-email, Facebook message, or text! Yours in service, Roshni Chadwani Key Club International Trustee for Eastern Canada, Kentucky-Tennessee and Pacific Northwest Cell: (281) 854-4553 E-mail: roshni.chadwani.kc@gmail.com

Make meetings fun Start with an ice-breaker. Ice-breaker activities can even the playing field, break up cliques and wake people up, especially if they involve laughter. Incorporate service into your meetings. Tie fleece blankets, knit, sort or pack food, wrap presents ‌ hands and ears work independently, you know. Get a new point of view. If the meeting stalls, ask members to jump up and change seats; a new perspective might spur new thoughts. Get in the groove. Add music as a background to service projects or social time. Limit announcements. Those can be made via e-mail. Keep it fresh. Have a speaker.

How to motivate members 1. Give positive feedback 2. Find friendships 3. Provide food 4. Be wacky and enthusiastic 5. Do interesting projects 6. Plan trips to district and international conventions

Keep it positive + Use positive feedback/ reinforcement + Celebrate even small accomplishments + Encourage new members—never forget that they can bring new ideas and creativity to a club + Deal with problems, but try to see the positive side

Show them you care Remember birthdays Send frequent and sincere thank-you notes Treat them to treats Surprise members with candy, smoothies, ice cream or pizza, not every meeting, but just as a special treat. Have fun awards along with the serious ones Best leaf-raker, corniest joke-teller, silliest hat, etc. Make up something appropriate for each member so everyone gets an award or certificate. Name a “Member of the Month Remember that all members are important, so make them feel that way

Dues to the District and International: $12 Register paid dues at: https:// members.portalbuzz.com/Member/User/Login? skin=kiwanis. You must sign in/register using your adviser’s e-mail and password. Dues are payable to the district on October 1st. Early bird dues are due November 1st. The deadline for all dues is December 1st. Pay your dues the EARLIER the BETTER! Early is on time, on time is late, and late is never! Dues are very important because it’s what makes a Key Clubber an official Key Club member. With being official, it is safer for members to attend events and if injured at an event, they will be covered with Kiwanis insurance. If there are any questions or concerns about paying dues, feel free to contact your Lieutenant Governor!

Why should you pay dues? - You are an OFFICIAL Key Club Member - You are legally covered to attend Key Club events - You can go to DCON Why should you pay dues EARLY? - FRONT ROW AT DCON! - Early bird patches/awards - It feels GOOD!
