The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Key Club members, like you, can support the March of Dimes each semester: in the fall, raise awareness by hosting programs and in the spring, raise funds by participating in March for Babies, the March of Dimes largest annual fundraiser.
Wilson Key Club has created a joint team for Divisions 34 and 35 for the walk of March of Dimes. Key Clubbers from both divisions are encouraged to find sponsors to walk for the March of Dimes. Our goal as two divisions is $500! The registration link is: http://www.marchforbabies.org/team/ PNWKeyClubD3435
One baby dies every 9 minutes from MNT
160 babies die each day from MNT
38 countries remain at high risk for MNT
Kiwanis will help save or protect more than 61 million mothers and their future babies
On average, health education and a series of three doses of tetanus vaccine cost $1.80
I am proud to announce the District Project for the year of 2013-2014: The Eliminate Project! The Eliminate Project is a joint project with Kiwanis and UNICEF to internationally terminate MNT. In 30 countries around the world, maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) can quickly turn the joy of childbirth into tragedy. Its effects are excruciating– tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of survival. MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the geographically hard to reach and those without health care. Neonatal tetanus kills one baby every nine minutes—nearly 60,000 newborn children every year. A significant number of women also die due to maternal tetanus. To eliminate MNT from the Earth, 129 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. It will take $110 million—and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family. If you would like more information, visit www.TheEliminateProject.org Our goal as a district is $24,000. With each member contributing $2, this goal can definitely be achieved. June 14, 2013— 6PM Mt. Tahoma High School 4634 S 74th St, Tacoma, WA 98409
Relay for Life is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk that consists of teams. Teams of people camp around the track at Mt. Tahoma High School. Each member of each time takes turn walking around the track. Food, games and activities are provided for entertainment and to build camaraderie. Relay for Life is a familyfriendly environment for the entire community.
One of the things that makes Relay for Life so special is the Luminaria Ceremony. This ceremony takes place after dark, in honor and remembrance of those people have lost to cancer. Candles are lit inside the bags and they are placed around the track. The sight of seeing all the glowing bags is absolutely breathtaking.
We Key Clubbers, serve to survive. It’s the Service of the Fittest — TACOMA RALLY. Tacoma Rally is a Key Club event which brings together divisions all around the Tacoma area. At this rally, incoming officers receive training, prospective members learn about Key Club, and everyone comes together to work on one influential service project! Expect an amazing day of fun and games, including a ‘Rally Games’ and a very special Key Note Speaker. Put your skills to the test and serve them all!
