ASKVOLL
Cycletours
Værlandet and Bulandet
The road between Værlandet and Bulandet is a popular cycletour. From the six bridges connecting the island communities, you have a grand overview to both the open sea and hundreds of islands.
Askvoll to Eimind
Cycle to Eimind and enjoy the magnificent sunsets if your starting point is Askvoll centrum. You will find a beautiful rolling sand. If you cycle to Follevåg, approximately 9 km. you may see deer grazing.
Atløy
Its narrow, quiet roads make Atløy a gem to explore on a bike. Note the ferry times, as there´s often more traffic on the roads at these times. Turn left in Gjervika and cycle approximately 12 km towards Herland. We recommed stopping at Vilnes church, a beautiful timber long church built in 1674. Approximately 2 km before Herland is Brurastakken with a marked geology trail.
Askvoll – Holmedal
Cycle the old road from Askvoll along the fjord towards Holmedal. We recommend stopping at the factory outlet of Helle Fabrikker, which has been making sports knives and cutlery for more than 80 years. Cycle on towards Rivedal. Take a break here beside the statue of Ingolf Arnarson, who founded the first settlement on Iceland.
You can rent cycle at:

Stongfjorden
Join a cultural walk in Norway´s early industrial history. The trail will guide you around the old and venerable industrial village and will show you places that connected the North Europe´s first aluminum plant. The trail is 1.2 km long and has 9 stops. It takes about 40 minutes to walk.
Staveneset is located approximately 9 km west of Stongfjorden and is one of the westernmost mainland-points in Norway. You will find 30 burial mounds and 11 rock carvings. Staveneset was a key city during Second World War. English agents monitored ship traffic and would receive help from the permanent residents, something that created dramatic circumstances. Two memorial plaques have been set up, and between them is the emblem of Royal Air Force. You will find a well-marked path to Høgeheia from Stavaneset. The hiking trail will give a panoramic view!
Epicenter for the Fjord Coast Regional- and Geopark in the old school house.
Atløy
Visit the charming island of Atløy and be enchanted by the beautiful scenery. You can see the wooden Vilnes church built in 1674, and a statue of Atle Jarl, which the island is named after.
The island is great for walks with many different options available. How about climbing to the top of Skredvarden (636 metres) or seeing the black, white and green striped Brurastakken? This mountain is easy to spot from the sea and is a popular destination for geology fieldwork.
Joker Atløy is located approximately 3 km from Gjervik ferry pier in direction Herland.
