Global Ballethnic — Using the Gospel of Dance to Spread Joy
Ballethnic is collaborating with Africulture a traditional dance and drum organization based in Bagamoya, Tanzania.
Ballethnic’s co-founders, Nena Gilreath and Waverly Lucas, spent weeks in Tanzania this summer; along with key collaborator Dr. Theresa Howard. They taught company dancers, drummers, and students the Ballethnic way of ballet and dance. This was the first time this community had experienced ballet.
Lucas instructed and helped to build the first sets of ballet barres in the community. They also shared important business concepts needed for developing a dance company.
The Ballethnic team were immersed in Tanzania traditional dance, and music and will incorporate more of the African moves into the Ballethnic approach.
