t Oglethorpe, it’s all about the experience — for our students and our audiences. Our premier venue, the Conant Performing Arts Center, stages student theatre productions and music performances, plus a line-up of professional guest performances throughout the year. Oglethorpe University students perform with both innovative spirit and deference to the classics; each year, students strive to bring a new sense of creativity to the stage. Past theatre productions include A Servant of Two Masters, Spring Awakening, Urinetown, Much Ado About Nothing, and Cabaret. Recently, the Oglethorpe University Singers appeared in TNT’s “Shaq Life,” performing an original piece, “I Want to Fly,” co-written by Oglethorpe’s own Dr. Tim Powell. With so much great talent in store, Oglethorpe students look forward to getting back on the stage and welcoming the incoming class of theatre and music scholars. Oglethorpe University has long taken advantage of its proximity to world-class theatre and arts. Among those to take the stage on campus are the Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Horizon Theatre Company, Capitol City Opera and the Atlanta Concert Opera.

Oglethorpe previously partnered with the Tony Award-winning Alliance Theatre, which staged two productions on campus, including their run of Shakespeare in Love. Among the professionals in the cast, three Oglethorpe students appeared as well. Be sure to follow Oglethorpe arts on social media to stay up to date with show announcements; a special theatre announcement will be coming this summer! The Oglethorpe University Museum of Art, a mainstay of the Brookhaven arts community, will host several exhibitions in the coming months. The juried exhibition, Southeastern Pastel Society’s 19th International Exhibition, hosted by OUMA, will be accessible online, starting May 8. From July 10 through September 27, “Color of Chagall and his Contemporaries,” will feature more than a dozen rarely-exhibited original oils by Chagall, Renoir, Pissarro and others. With a growing permanent collection, a series of exhibitions and occasional concerts, the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art is a small, accessible destination with world class art.
