Out Front Theatre Company

Brings a Dazzling 2020/21 Season to Stage

O

ut Front Theatre Company, the beloved and award-winning LGBTQIA+ theatre company of Atlanta, has announced its upcoming 2020/2021 season. With a book by Douglas Carter Beane, with music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, the Tony Award-nominated, hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time — the first ROLLER DISCO! In the Georgia Premiere of Judy’s Scary Little Christmas, Judy Garland is primed for her biggest comeback ever — the dazzling star of her own TV special, broadcast live on Christmas Eve, 1959. The evening takes a detour into the twilight zone as Judy’s all-star guests are forced to confront the lies behind their legends. The show features a book by James Webber and David Church, with music and Lyrics by Joe Patrick Ward. The Pink Unicorn, by Elise Forier, is an award-winning solo theatre piece, which tells the often times funny story of Trisha, a Christian widow, living in a conservative Texas town, whose life is thrown into turmoil when her teenaged daughter announces she is “gender queer” and starting a chapter of the Gay and Straight Alliance at the local high school. Harrison David Rivers’ This Bitter Earth focuses on a deep love that is challenged by divisive political realities. Jesse, an

introspective black playwright, finds his choices called into question when his boyfriend, Neil, a white Black Lives Matter activist, calls him out for his political apathy. But the human heart can hold complex and often contradictory things, and the two men find themselves at a crossroads. In Torch Song, Harvey Firestein explores the life of Arnold Beckoff, a torch song-singing, Jewish drag queen living in New York City, over the span of the late 1970s and 1980s. All Arnold wants is a husband, a child, and a pair of bunny slippers that fit, but a visit from his overbearing mother reminds him that he needs one thing more: respect.
