Power amp wise, the new MXA-8400 is a complete monster, offering 8x 400W, or it can be bridged to offer 4x 800W if needed.

WHAT IS DCI?
The best place to start is the website www.dcimovies.com, the home page of Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC (DCI). The website states that:
“DCI was created in March 2002 and is a joint venture of Disney, Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal and Warner Bros. Studios. DCI’s primary purpose is to establish and document voluntary specifications for an open architecture for digital cinema that ensures a uniform and high level of technical performance, reliability, and quality control.”
In other words, DCI is the technical standard for managing movie content creation, distribution and playback in the highest possible quality. Devices are independently tested against the relevant standards. If they meet these lofty targets, they become DCI Certified—you can download the test reports and certificates for all compliant devices!
This element of independent testing is essential as it proves the device meets relevant performance levels, which is just as critical for high-end residential solutions as for commercial cinemas.
WHY IS DCI IMPORTANT FOR RESIDENTIAL CLIENTS?
The DCI content format used by commercial cinema delivers the highest quality available, with video bit rates up to 50x that of streaming video and up to 64 channels of uncompressed immersive audio.
Understandably, studios are very protective of this content and playback is managed by a unique license file linked to the specific display. This file can manage when the content can be played, how often and even if you can use the pause function! Without a license, the content is useless.
The DCI movie plays from a server within the display - the integrated media block - providing further content security.
Of course, all of this security is to prevent copying of the movie—that’s how movie studios make money, after all. It also means that if you have the correct playback system and access to the content, you have the ultimate cinematic experience: pristine content, incredibly dynamic and immersive sound and access on release day. If you can afford it, then there is no better solution.
There are many clients for whom a trip to a commercial cinema is impossible - sports stars,
celebrities, ultra-high-net-worth individuals and even royalty. The sort of client with a private jet and thinks nothing of a £6000 bottle of Bollinger to toast the start of the evening with friends. HOME CINEMA PERFECTION WITH TRIAD

Working with a combination of Triad Platinum in-wall, Triad Gold on-wall and Triad
Silver in-ceiling and in-wall speakers, paired with Triad Platinum in-room subwoofers and amps placed in a 9.6.4. Dolby Atmos setup, the sound produced is richly detailed and immersive. The speakers are hidden from view, built into the fabric of the room. Triad’s engineered, sealed MDF enclosures provide the key to sophisticated acoustics, sound isolation, and effortless playback.
“Our client has an ear for fine audio, so it was important that the sound quality of this cinema met his expectations,” says Goran Mikulić, CEO at Smart Touch. “He originally had another well-known audio brand in mind and wanted its speakers for the cinema. Snap One supported Smart Touch in optimising the cinema design, ensuring the best Triad speaker locations and amplification, as well as system mapping diagrams for servicing and clear instruction manuals for the family.
The cinema is integrated with a Control4 automation solution and managed via a touch screen in the space which offers seamlessly integrated operation of the lighting, heating and cooling, as well as the audio-visual system that drives the cinema. Pre-sets provide ease of use for various scenarios, for example the ‘Cinema On’ button perfectly sets the lighting, screen and audio ready for pressing ‘play’ on the movie and turns on the ventilation. There is even a setting for when the cleaners are in – they can simply tap the button and the lighting goes up ready for them to begin work. Every setting is perfectly synchronised to suit the desired use of the room.
The client is also supported with a full aftercare package to ensure the smooth running of his home cinema. Smart Touch can remotely monitor and manage the Control4 solution via OvrC, available free and embedded within the Control4 operating system, providing an additional level of service. The team can view the system, troubleshoot and action any software updates remotely, minimising disruption to the client. In addition, Smart Touch has also
created a bespoke media library for the client, tailored to the taste of the client and his family. This is regularly updated remotely, to ensure the selection is always up to date.
“Our client is incredibly happy with the result and feedback has been positive,” says Goran. “We have had friends of this client approaching us to work on their home cinema projects and we’re currently working on two replica

Design is the first stage of our workflow with integrators, and it is also the first thing we teach in our training. Understanding the application and use case of the system is the first order of business and then we base our design around that. Soundvision really expedites getting us the answers that our integrators need about speaker placement and performance within the space. With Soundvision, there’s no guess work or ‘this has worked in the past’ argument, it allows us to create a bespoke solution for any projects, and to generate the reports that show exactly why this solution is the best for the requirements.
Calibration is the cherry on top of a good sound system design. You can design the best sound system in the world, but if you don’t set it up and tune it correctly then you will not get the desired performance. Every room is going to affect a sound source in a different way, regardless of the quality of that source. While the system may be of a high quality and installed to a high standard, the calibration process adds that something personal which creates a unique home experience.
These tools allow integrators to design audio for home cinema with scientific precision, in line with CEDIA’s Recommended Practice RP22 for home cinema applications. We have worked on fully immersive, private home cinemas that reach the RP22 Level 3 and Level 4 and these have been fantastic to work on.
One of the best parts of our job is the clients’ reactions. On a recent project, where we demonstrated a system in a well-known music producer’s home with the integrator and enduser present, their immediate reaction was to buy the demo kit! We came to the conclusion that they would have their own brand-new system in just a few short days. To have an end-user with that expert level of musical
