NEWS SAMSUNG C&T AND ABB TO EXPAND SMART BUILDING CAPABILITIES To improve the livability and energy efficiency of large residential, commercial and multi-dwelling residential buildings, ABB Smart Buildings and Samsung C&T Corporation Engineering & Construction Group have entered a new global agreement to jointly deliver integrated, holistic building automation, reliable energy distribution and energy management solutions. This follows a separate global agreement signed with Samsung Electronics in April 2022 to drive holistic residential smart building technology through the integration of ABBfree@home and Samsung SmartThings. The deal signals an intention to integrate holistic building solutions, such as Samsung C&T’s Homeniq smart home platform, the ABB-free@home system and the ABB i-bus KNX that can significantly widen potential home and building services under one property management tool said the partners. Able to choose between the Homeniq app, the ABB-free@home app and ABB wall panels, this will allow building residents to control all Samsung C&T and ABB smart home devices from a single user interface. Intended to meet the increasing customer demand for integrated, easy-to-use, and flexible products and solutions, the partnership is intended as a further milestone in enabling greater energy management, lower energy costs and improved quality of life. The new ability to manage and monitor all energy grid systems within properties is also expected to lower connection charges by

Welcoming the new partnership, Lucy Han, Head of Global Product Group Building and Home Automation Solutions at ABB Electrification’s Smart Buildings Division, said, “This exciting new agreement with Samsung C&T is another important step forward in expanding our portfolio of seamless and comprehensive smart building technology and services and reflects our ongoing commitment to collaborating with partners to address global energy efficiency challenges.”
Hyejung Helen Cho, Head of Life Solution Department at Samsung C&T added, “Construction companies, property developers and operators will also benefit from the convenience of a combined, one-stop-shop offering of Samsung C&T’s devices and ABB’s Smart Home control devices. CISCO APP STUDY REVEALS FURY AS BRANDS FAIL TO DELIVER SEAMLESS DIGITAL EXPERIENCES Cisco has launched the latest report in its App Attention Index research series, revealing escalating consumer expectations for digital experience and increased pressure on brands to optimise performance and security. The global study, which examined the digital behaviours of more than 15,000 consumers, revealed that consumers demands on applications have reached an all-time high, with 62% reporting that their expectations for digital experiences are far higher now than they were two years ago, while 66% state they now expect brands to deliver an exceptional digital experience as standard. But needs are not being met, with as many as 88% of respondents experiencing performance issues when using applications over the past 12 months (up from 83% in 2021). The study revealed that 55% indicate they feel disrespected by brands whose applications don’t meet their expectations, 64% are less forgiving of brands when problems occur and 77% have stopped using or deleted applications because of performance issues over the last 12 months.
Consumers are also becoming increasingly selective about the applications they use, and more conscious about the time they spend engaging with digital services– thinking harder before installing new applications, evaluating current providers and ridding themselves of a sense of ‘application clutter’. The study revealed that 68% are keen to get rid of application clutter, 62% are looking to control or limit the number of applications they are using or that they have on their device and 54% have deleted more applications than they have installed over the last 12 months. These shifts are especially prevalent in a new cohort of application users: ‘The Application Generation.’ Aged 18-34, The Application Generation are far more discerning about the quality of the applications they use, with 77% claiming to be more mindful about the applications they install on their devices and 64% stating that they only want to use the very best applications and digital services. Mark McClear
Global smart lighting control company, Casambi, has announced the appointment of Mark McClear as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Mark takes over from Kari Mettälä, who, following five years of dynamic leadership, has stepped down to pursue other strategic priorities. As the newly appointed CEO, Mark McClear commented, “It’s an honour to lead Casambi. This is an exciting juncture in the lighting industry as luminaires become increasingly smarter. From stamped metal and screw-in lamps, we’ve advanced to integrated LEDs, and it’s now inevitable that all luminaires will soon feature embedded Bluetooth Low Energy radios and sensors. Casambi is poised to lead this transformation as the sole international lighting control platform. Our open ecosystem architecture represents a pioneering leap, surpassing the proprietary legacy systems prevalent in today’s market.” Mark joined Casambi in February 2022 as the General Manager for North America, bringing a 20-year legacy and reputation in the LED and SSL sectors across 35+ countries in Asia, North and South America and Europe. With experience managing large organisations and P&Ls of up to $800 million, Mark is wellsuited to lead Casambi into its next phase of growth and success. Kramer, audio-visual experience company, has announced the latest evolution of its business, with the appointment of experienced AV and Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) channel executive, Brooke Ellingworth, as its first-ever Director of EMEA Channels.
Brooke Ellingworth
12 JANUARY 2024
Adding over 16 years of top-level AV/ UCC knowledge and experience to Kramer’s growing international team, Brooke will play an instrumental role in the company’s ongoing business transformation and growth strategy, with closer and more aligned channel partnerships, key to achieving its ambitions. Working with partners such as Sony, Jabra and Netgear, Kramer’s hardware, advanced software and cloud technologies, deliver complete meeting room solutions for any business, with corporate, education, entertainment, healthcare and government among its core customers. Brooke is an accomplished sales and channel leader, with a proud track record of delivering exponential growth to some of the world’s leading technology firms. These include Logitech, from whom she joins and Ingram Micro and Cisco, among others. Reporting to Peter Baxter, Senior Vice President (SVP) at Kramer, Brooke is tasked with refreshing and restructuring Kramer’s existing channel strategy, to maximise sales and growth opportunities across both local and international markets, while extending brand awareness on a global scale. Kramer has set internal targets of becoming the brand of choice for advanced engagement technology solutions in the global market within the next five-years. Brooke is conducting a review of Kramer’s existing EMEA channel partner network, while also exploring new alliance opportunities, including distributors, system integrators, and other AV/IT/UCC service providers and specialists. Greater levels of company transparency, including future roadmaps, new solutions and campaigns, plus additional partner training and the introduction of new shared profit partner rewards and incentives are among the value adds being introduced by Kramer. Brooke commented, “I am delighted to have joined Kramer and excited at the opportunity to be a part of their already fantastic team. The most important thing for me right now is getting to know the channel intimately and building true and long-term relationships. That means really understanding who they are, their relationship with us, and ways that can be improved.” Kinly, a leading AV solutions and services provider, has announced the appointment of Andy Nicholls, as its first Global Head of Talent Acquisition. With more than 25 years of recruitment expertise, Andy will be working with the wider human resources team and Global People Directory Katy Thorpe to fulfil CEO Tom Martin’s vision of creating a home for prominent industry experts in AV. including the creation and execution of global recruitment strategies. Andy’s goal is to not only recruit but retain exceptional individuals and to further build upon the foundations of nurturing talent and fostering an inclusive environment that Kinly has already laid. Digital signage consultancy, Saturn Visual Solutions, has made three new appointments in three different departments. The MediaCity-based company, which works with clients like Mars, ODEON, and AO, has hired Katherine Robinson, a motion graphics designer who previously worked for the Scottish Government, to join its digital signage content services team. Liam Hind has become part of the company’s installation team. He brings significant experience in electrical equipment servicing and sound system installation and engineering, strengthening the team’s technical capabilities. Luke Hickman has also been appointed as commercial manager to do cost efficiency analysis and strengthen the now three-strong finance team. Paul Murphy, operations director for Saturn Visual Solutions, commented, “I think we’re as busy as we’ve ever been. ESSENTIAL MONITOR AUDIO The highly versatile nature of this speaker means it can be utilised as rear surround channels in high-fidelity home cinemas, or where space is at a premium in corridors or small rooms, or in areas that require a lot of sound coverage – where maximum wide dispersion is needed. Installation of the C2L-T2X couldn’t be simpler either. Like all new Creator Series speakers, there are a couple of very significant innovations that make Creator Series not only unique within the market, but a breeze to install.
PATENT PENDING ‘QUIK-LINK’
Achieving speed and ease of installation is very important in any installation project. Monitor Audio’s answer is the Quik-Link. It essentially ensures no unnecessary messing about up a ladder trying to juggle the speaker, whilst trying to connect the speaker cables to the terminals. With the Quik-Link terminal, you simply unclip and remove it from its location on the rear of the speaker. Then you can attach and pre-fit Quik-Link to the speaker cables, and leave it ready for when the speaker is ready to be installed. To install the Quick-Link (with the speaker cables already in place) you simply offer up the Quick-link to the terminal connection area on the rear of the speaker, where it’ll ‘snap’ back into place. It will virtually self-locate due to the magnets that are housed within it and the rear of the speaker and the terminal itself. The Quick-Link terminal includes a latch system, which also ensures that it cannot be pulled off the back of the speaker once installed.

TRI-GRIP II DOG-LEGS
Reliability is key to any speaker being utilised for installation purposes. Monitor Audio’s latest Tri-Grip II design, provides a stronger more reliable mechanism into the new Creator Series designs. The Clamp mechanism features a dual 4mm thread screw thread and a brass insert. This combination provides a solid connection between the dog leg and the product. The dual thread provides the same level of engagement and strength as a standard screw but offers a faster travel. In addition to the new screw thread, there is a latch system which keeps the dog leg in the home position while the product is being installed or removed from the ceiling, while cushioned pads on the ends of the doglegs

soften the impact against plaster board, for a firmer more secure grip. This evolved design means that ultra-reliability is ensured and that installation and speaker extraction for replacement couldn’t be simpler. The Monitor Audio Creator Series, now available globally for project specification, delivers the latest innovative, metal cone drive unit technologies, powerful motor systems and useful, practical installation devices to ensure that the 4th generation of Monitor Audio architectural speakers continue to lead the field of high-fidelity custom installation speakers. ESSENTIAL TOGETHER FOR CINEMA

TOGETHER FOR CINEMA TRANSFORMS SENSORY EXPERIENCES AT THE CREATIVE SPACE CENTRE Nestled in the heart of Preston, Lancashire, the Creative Space Centre stands as a beacon of support for those with additional needs. Boasting the title of the largest multi-sensory Centre in the UK, this unique facility has provided sensory support for over 30 years, employing cutting-edge technology to create personalised sensory experiences for its diverse clientele. With over 700 weekly visitors from diverse backgrounds including special schools, day centres, nursing homes, and support groups, the centre welcomes those facing a spectrum of challenges. These include including autism, developmental delay, cerebral palsy and learning disabilities. The Creative Space Centre is a haven for those dealing with stress, anxiety, and emotional difficulties, their families, carers, therapists, and teachers, offering a safe and supportive environment.

Constantly evolving, the Centre tailors its rooms to cater to individual needs, whether the goal is relaxation, exploration, learning, or simply having fun, with guidance provided by the dedicated staff on maximising the benefits of the Centre’s state-of-the-art equipment. The story of the Centre’s collaboration with Together For Cinema (TFC) begins with Jane Robinson, the General Manager and also a Trustee at Derian House Children’s Hospice in
Chorley. Having seen the incredible impact of the cinema room at Derian House, she reached out to Together For Cinema in November 2021 to see if The Space Centre could be suitable for a Together For Cinema installation. A visit by Ian Morrish, TFC’s founder of, followed last December, and he instantly understood the Centre’s mission and the potential to create something extraordinary. “Over the the years I’ve been running TFC, I’ve found that once you visit a venue you get

ESSENTIAL TOGETHER FOR CINEMA emotionally involved and want to do what you can to help,” says Ian. “The Space Centre was no exception and having spent time with Jane I really wanted to make something special happen for them, but also for all the individuals and families that rely on and benefit from this amazing facility.” Given their geographical proximity to The Space Centre, the choice of Majik House as the installer was natural. Having previously worked closely with TFC on a project at Jigsaw, the children’s hospice section of Eden Valley Hospice, Tim Burrow and his team at Majik House were the perfect fit. Their expertise and commitment to creating meaningful spaces for those in need were obvious and Ian hoped they would consider being part of another good cause. “Fortunately, I already had a meeting planned with Tim and the Majik House team at last year’s upcoming ISE show and I was optimistic that they’d be happy to help,” Ian continues. “We had our meeting and before I’d even asked Tim about The Space Centre, he said he’d like Majik House to get involved with another installation. He agreed, we planned a site visit, and we were off and running. Sometimes things just work out!” The success of TFC installations relies heavily on product donations. With a comprehensive list of equipment required, the team at Majik House worked diligently with industry suppliers to secure what was needed. The generosity of these contributors is reflected in the extensive kit list, featuring high-quality products ranging

from projectors and cables to lighting, speakers, and AV receivers. The installation started on November 15, 2023, culminating in the final sign-off on November 27. The official opening on December 4 marked the completion of a transformative project, turning a large, cold room into an inviting and immersive cinema space. “Suspended ceilings, 12 square metres of Starscape ceiling panels, Orluna lighting and of course all the AV required make a really immersive room that cradled the audience and gave them a truly impressive cinematic experience,” Ian confirms. Despite the inclement weather and travel delays, the opening reception was attended by local community members, industry representatives and, most importantly, endusers and their support teams. The room’s official opening by a local Lancashire radio DJ further underscored its significance. For a charitable facility like The Space Centre, a cinema room is a luxury beyond their typical budget constraints. Valued at over £50,000, this installation represents a significant addition to the Centre’s sensory offerings. The installation marks TFC’s 42nd good cause cinema room, contributing to a cumulative delivery exceeding £1,000,000 worth of installations. Tim Burrow, Jit Mistry, and Autumn Burrow at Majik House exemplify the industry’s united front, showcasing the power of collaboration to make a lasting impact on lives.

The Creative Space Centre’s new cinema room stands not only as a testament to technological innovation but, more importantly, as a symbol of compassion, inclusivity and the positive change that can be achieved when a community comes together. “We’re incredibly grateful to all who played a part in this wonderful project, from manufacturers and distributors, to the team at Majik House who did such a wonderful job on the installation,” Ian concludes. “As always, it’s the collaborative effort and dedication from everyone involved that makes these transformations possible.”

SHOWROOM SHOWCASE: CYBERHOMES
CYBERHOMES CREATES SONUS FABER AND MCINTOSH SHOWCASE Acting as an official showroom for the Sonus faber and McIntosh brands in the UK, the Cyberhomes team used their expertise to underline just what these two makers can achieve in partnership as well as underline its own abilities to deliver complete turnkey solutions. Ion Smith, Founder and Director at Cyberhomes, explains the origins of this reimagined space, “Our cinema room has gone through various transformations over the years. Nevertheless, we deemed it essential to give it greater attention to reflect Cyberhomes’ progress as a company. Our objective is to showcase the most exceptional audio and video equipment, with a particular emphasis on our design, construction and fabrication processes, which we believe are some of the best in the industry.”
22 JANUARY 2024
Experience out in the field led to a decision on the brands to be used. Ion takes up the story, “Our company had a vision of creating an unbeatable cinematic experience where the movie takes centre stage and the room disappears, leaving the viewer completely absorbed in the action. To achieve this, we conducted in-depth research on several highend amplifier and speaker combinations. We found many of them to be excellent, however during our visit to Sonus faber in Italy, we had
the pleasure of listening to the Sonus Faber Arena speakers working with McIntosh. “We felt that we had finally discovered a combination that was simply next level in sound quality and a company that shared our drive, determination, support and values. It was the perfect choice for us.” Ion enthuses, “The exceptional sound quality that we experienced was beyond our expectations. The dynamic range stretched far beyond the room, and the speakers captured

every subtle detail and nuance. This type of experience can be truly moving and we were committed to recreating it in our demo room. Ion further explains, “Initially, we had installed Triad Gold series speakers and McIntosh amplifiers in the room, and the sound quality was excellent. However, after we heard the Arena speakers, we realised that they could further enhance the sound performance significantly. “Upgrading to the larger Arena speakers was a risk as it required justification for the additional cost. After a professional audio calibration and some adjustments to the room’s acoustics, we

are happy to say that the Arena speakers have taken the sound performance to the next level.” Andy Oattes, Country Manager UK & Ireland at Fine Sounds UK, distributors for Sonus faber and McIntosh, adds, “We have always been admirers of the Cyberhomes team and their standard of work. We began talking with the company around three years ago and since then have developed close alignment around our shared passion for excellence and ‘designing for emotional experience’. We want to work with the best partners to create the very finest systems, and the relationship continues to grow, while we create more and more amazing spaces.’

DESIGN DETAILS
The objective for the design was to create a simple, yet distinct look that showcased the company’s design expertise and creativity to visiting clients. Chris Morley, Lead Designer at Cyberhomes reveals, “To achieve this, we used advanced design and fabrication techniques to incorporate subtle curves and angles that are often difficult to create and fabricate. Attention to detail was our top priority and we enjoyed pushing ourselves to the limit.” The build knowhow and skill in execution is evident in the steps and seating tiers, as well as in the tiered curved ceiling feature at the front and back of the room, which is designed to create the Cyberhomes logo colours using DMX lighting. Very effective indeed. Chris adds, “In addition to the carefully chosen acoustically transparent fabric on the walls, which allowed us to place hidden acoustic panels and arena speakers behind, there are two windows on the right wall that are concealed using dual Lutron electric sheer and blackout blinds. The opposite wall showcases a stunning Mcintosh and Trinnov filled AV rack behind electrochromic glass. This can hide the rack with a frosted-out effect at the touch of a button, a simple but really slick feature.” The back of the room features a small bar that is accessible by opening two curved wooden slatted doors. This custom wooden slatted effect also surrounds the existing Fortress Seating chairs which, while being functional and comfortable, needed a bit more ‘wow factor’ to match with the rest of the room - an addition Cyberhomes will be making soon.
JANUARY 2024 25
SHOWROOM SHOWCASE: CYBERHOMES
The space has been created to demonstrate the company’s ability to deliver complete turnkey solutions
To balance the back of the room, the team also constructed two custom pillars housed in the front corners. Chris describes some of the other product choices, “A Sony VPL-VW790 Laser projector and Lumagen processor project a 12ft wide image onto a Screen Research acoustically transparent electric side masking (CIH) 2.40:1 ratio screen, with the front three Sonus Faber Arena 20 in-wall speakers set behind. “The left and right speakers are toed in towards the main listening position for a very clear centre stage. Crystal clear images are provided by a number of different sources, including Kaleidescape.”
26 JANUARY 2024
Of course, no high-end movie and music experience would be complete without smooth, deep and clear bass. Chris explains, “To achieve this, we installed six of the Sonus faber in-wall Arena 15 subwoofers, four on the front wall and two on the rear. This gave us plenty of bass headroom for fine-tuning with effective bass distribution across all seating areas.” Lighting wise, Chris reveals, “Our inhouse interior and lighting designer helped us pay particular attention to how the room was illuminated, complementing the room’s aesthetic. Subtle up-lights from Orluna were carefully placed to highlight the front corner
pillars, while the centre room down-lights change colour temperature as you dim them, creating a warm ambiance as the movie starts. “To bring more life to the room, a choice of LED strip and DMX lighting was carefully added to the space and enhances its overall look.” For control the room has a full automation system using Control4. This system controls the audio visual, climate, blinds and lighting.
MAKING THE BEST BETTER
Achieving the best performance in a highend cinema of course demands extensive knowledge and years of experience. Chris says, “The Trinnov Altitude processor offers a plethora of tweaking options to maximise the room’s performance. Our engineers are highly skilled at calibrating a room, but we took a step further by engaging Roberto Gamba’s help. Roberto is International Business Development Director for Custom Installation, Sonus faber and has calibrated hundreds of cinemas and played an instrumental role in designing Sonus Faber Arena speakers, which is why he knew how to make them sing. “The outcome after the calibration was nothing short of spectacular. To ensure optimal video quality, we sought the assistance of Gordon Fraser from Convergent AV. Gordon has been working with us for years and knows how to calibrate the best image possible from every projector we sell while optimising the Lumagen for the best results.” The team also received excellent support from the team at Fine Sounds, distributors

Carefully designed lighting adds drama as well as practical advantages
for Sonus faber and McIntosh, including Andy Oattes, and Matt Peddle, Business Development Manager who helped at each stage of the install. In addition, Invision UK provided Cyberhomes with the latest Trinnov processor and Lee Ellis from Orluna Lighting also helped by selecting and providing the main downlights for the room.
EXPECTATIONS
Now the room is ready for opening, what is the team most looking forward to showcasing? Andy Mack, Founder and Director at Cyberhomes enthuses, “We believe the presentation of the room comes across really well, it’s a great place to be with its modern and interesting aesthetic and mind-blowing audio visuals. The Sonus faber, Trinnov and Mcintosh combination not only presents a gutsy dynamic performance for the most demanding action and bass hungry scenes possible, but can also finely resolve every subtle detail and nuance in a natural, pure and unforced way, which can really bring out the emotion and feel of a scene. Andy adds, “Carefully programmed control macros are the icing on the cake. The ‘watch movie’ button closes the blinds, fades the lights, switches the power amps on one by one in a carefully timed sequence, gently fades the electrochromic glass so the rack disappears from view, the projector lights up the screen and the Kaleidescape movie server springs into action. This start up sequence really delivers the excitement that should be felt just as the movie begins.” Business benefits are expected to be manyfold, Andy underlines, “Our demo cinema room is a testament to our commitment to delivering a truly high-end experience to our clients while showcasing our passion for designing bespoke solutions tailored to their needs. “Our facility enables us to guide our clients through our design process, demonstrating how we approach their project with a focus on technical and aesthetic requirements.

“Our design team, including interior design, lighting design and technical experts, are available at our premises to answer questions and explore our clients’ ideas. The cinema demo room showcases a completed room and provides our clients with an experience of what their own cinema room could look and sound like. It’s an opportunity for our clients to see and experience the quality of our work first-hand.” Andy Oattes of Fine Sounds adds, “The objective for the space was to create a truly benchmark immersive audio experience that not only looked amazing, but which sounded breathtaking - even for the most discerning of ears. The thinking was to build something very special, where new clients can get a feel for what is possible. We are really proud of what has been achieved here and we’ll all be working with the team to drive as many people to experience this for themselves.” This is a great addition to the UK’s home cinema demonstration map, showcasing two brands in Sonus faber and McIntosh that up to this point have not enjoyed such an impressive venue as this. The cinema has been so well crafted it will do anything you ask it to and do it very well.

ESSENTIAL DbM
BESPOKE HOME CINEMAS AND DBM PARTNER TOGETHER AND EXCEED CLIENT EXPECTATIONS When Bespoke Home Cinemas was contracted to transform an unusually shaped living space into a dedicated cinema room, with particular emphasis on high-quality audio, the integrator partnered with DbM to supply an immersive cinematic audio experience that exceeded the clients’ expectations. The clients had been avidly following Bespoke Home Cinemas on social media for several years and were keen to find out how the integrator could create a room that would cater to the entertainment needs of the entire family. After a thorough demonstration at the integrator’s North Leeds showroom and extensive design consultations, the clients chose Bespoke Home Cinemas to manage the entire project, from design and construction to installation. Through detailed plans, CAD drawings and 3D renders, the team provided detailed visualisations and configurations, ensuring clarity for the family to envisage the final result. The project presented two main challenges. The first revolved around a comprehensive redesign of the room, coupled with the creation of a room within a room to meet the client’s specific request for extensive soundproofing from the rest of the house. The second challenge was the time-frame that this project had to be

ESSENTIAL DbM Providing high SPLs (Sound Pressure Levels) and strong bass performance capabilities, the DSP640.2 loudspeakers are powered by a Meridian Audio ‘CLASS-M’ DSP engine. A double-precision Aux filter improves resolution on low frequencies, and the built-in Dynamic bass protection technology maximises bass extension helping to achieve exceptional audio performance. The DSP320.2 In-ceiling loudspeaker produces at least four times the bass performance of a passive in-ceiling speaker with similar cabinet volume (100mm / 4in mounting depth). The loudspeaker integrates audio enhancing technologies from Meridian, including Full Frequency Alignment (FFA), Q-Sync, True Time and True Link. The DSW600 In-wall subwoofer delivers fast, powerful, dynamic, and accurate bass, offering high accuracy and low distortion for the ultimate surround sound experience. Products can be quickly mounted in-wall or on-wall with further customisation available through compatibility with a wide range of RAL colours and premium finishes. Capable of delivering rich, powerful and intelligible sound, even in acoustically complex spaces with high ceilings or those featuring an abundance of glass or concrete, K-array says its speakers are perfectly suited for installation within media rooms, immersive Dolby Atmos home cinemas, gardens, decks and other settings. They are also presented as delivering ease of installation, with lightweight and robust performance in tough environmental conditions. ESSENTIAL ISE 2024 PREVIEW PMC will demonstrate its ci series loudspeakers in a Dolby Atmos configuration, driven by the new power 750-8 multi-channel amplifier, receiving its public debut. Renowned mix engineer and PMC advocate, Heff Moraes, will be presenting a series of seminars about Dolby Atmos Music mixing throughout the show, cementing PMC’s position as the authority on Atmos mixing. PMC slimline monitors feature in recording, mixing and mastering studios across the world and are the reference standard in Dolby Atmos mixing studios at Dolby London, Capitol LA and Dean Street London.
For the CI industry, the ability to specify the same speakers used by the movie makers is the only way to offer customers the same stunning dynamics and awe-inspiring realism experienced in the leading studios, argues the maker. Like all PMC speakers, the six ci series models feature the company’s proprietary ATL bass loading technology and Laminair air flow control for ultra-low distortion and highresolution playback. All six models are designed with a shallow depth for on-wall mounting and the ci30, ci45, ci65 and ci90slim may also be used in-wall. This gives the installer greater mounting flexibility, enabling customers to
enjoy a truly audiophile level experience from a highly discreet system. Receiving its debut at the show, and powering the immersive audio experience, will be the PMC power 750-8, an eightchannel amplifier that combines exceptionally transparent and neutral sound with a massive power output of 750W per channel. In addition, the power 750-8 also offers fully featured DSP control for each of the eight channels. Inputs are selectable/switchable as either balanced analogue or Dante. Adjusting EQ for each channel is also incredibly easy thanks to System Engineer software that can be installed on any PC to control and set up any number of amps.

This meant a complete topto-bottom redesign of the stand to give visitors the ultimate Faradite experience and provide a gorgeous environment for the equally gorgeous new products, says the maker. Sonos will return as a Bronze Sponsor for the 20th anniversary show. Located in Hall 2, (Stand 2E510) Sonos will be showcasing its range of professional solutions and will also highlight the integration possibilities of its Works with Sonos program. COMPANY FOCUS: SNAP ONE
INFLUENCER: HOUSE OF BOYCE BREAKS THE MOULD WITH CONTROL4 Social media marks the start of new project for Control4 Partner Art of Integration. When a social media influencer shares online that they’re planning a home renovation, what’s the best way to attract their attention? For Adam Wolfe, Managing Director at home technology firm, Art of Integration, it was clear. “I dropped them a video via Instagram to say ‘we’re here, we’re down the road, let me know if you need us’.” The influencer in question was Louise Boyce, content creator supreme and founder of lifestyle blog Mama’s Still Got it. Her response to Wolfe’s video was rapid. “We had a meeting within two or three days of that video and sat down with the plans. Then, we drew out exactly what they wanted. This grew into a design, with a cable schedule and wiring of the house. It all moved very quickly. Within about 10 days we’d gone from design to cabled and the house being boarded and plastered,” recalls Adam. The extensive project, known as House of Boyce, included a complete renovation and extension to create a stunning four-bedroom
42 JANUARY 2024
family home complete with an expansive master suite, kitchen/dining area, TV room and office spaces. While the speed of the project was impressive, it wasn’t without its challenges. Adam explains, “Normally, we’re involved at a much earlier stage on a project, but this time, we were late to the table. We obviously reacted as quickly as we could, but the short timeframe was probably the hardest thing to overcome.” Thankfully, Louise and husband Jesse were willing to put their trust in Art of Integration, who worked hard to understand the functionality the family wanted. “They were open to our ideas. We also brought them to our demonstration facility and showed them how the tech could work on the Control4 app which made it a lot easier for them to choose what they wanted,” adds Adam. “They’re very much into listening to music, so audio was a priority. They also wanted simple TV control that they, their parents and their kids could use, which led us down the Control4

COMPANY FOCUS: SNAP ONE important that the influencer is on board with what our company could deliver, the benefits we could bring and also meet our marketing requirements. Ultimately, it’s a business relationship as well as a client-integrator relationship and setting out the expectations on both sides before work starts is critical, along with clear communications throughout, so that it’s a win-win for us both.” Control4, Triad, Pakedge, Strong and Episode are Snap One brands. Equipment list • Strong 21U rack with sides • Pakedge RK-1 • Control4 EA3 • Triad AMS8 • Triad PAMP8 – 8 Zone route. When we first met, they were talking about having a little bit of Sonos, so introducing them to a seamless integrated solution with Control4 as the platform, the response was ‘wow, I didn’t know that all this is possible’.” The Control4 Halo remote is proving particularly popular with the family as it also responds to their request for a simple-to-use, hand-held control solution. “They love the Halo remote. Ease of use was a big indicator because they didn’t want anything that was too complicated,” says Adam. “They’ve got three young kids and the two older ones picked up the Halo remote quite easily. That was some of the primary thinking because, if Jesse or Louise are travelling, the kids can understand how to use it, whether they want to open or close the blinds, turn the music on, be able to sit and watch TV, without any trouble at all.” There are six zones of audio managed by the Control4 system. High-performance architectural IC62 ceiling speakers from Snap One brand Triad have been installed throughout the property, including in the master suite, kitchen and TV room. The TV room also features a Triad On wall Mini 3.0 Soundbar, custom painted by Art of Integration to match the joinery, along with an In Room Omnisub 8. Elsewhere, Art of Integration has utilised other Snap One brands within the system, including Episode in-ceiling speakers in the Master EnSuite and Dressing Room, a Pakedge RK-1 7 port gigabit router for the wi-fi network and two 21U AV racks from Strong. While the technology in the house is ultramodern, aesthetics was also important to the homeowners and the design beautifully blends the traditional with the contemporary. One example of this is the front entrance. The family was concerned that a video doorbell system would look out of place, so a traditional doorbell

was chosen which was then integrated with the CCTV. When it’s pressed a snapshot appears on a discreet CCTV camera and the sound of the bell is heard through the speakers. The client was very much in the driving seat with this project but Art of Integration were able to ensure that these types of solutions could be tailored specifically for them, using Control4. Impressively, the whole project only took a few months and while the work itself didn’t throw up too many surprises, working with an influencer who chronicled every step of progress on social media certainly led to a few firsts for Adam, who ended up starring in some of Louise’s Instagram videos. “Louise captured every single aspect of the project, making and sharing videos at different stages,” Adam adds. “She’d do a Q&A every two weeks, it would be ‘Adam’s coming, do you want to ask any questions’. So, we’d sit together, and she’d ask questions from her audience. It’s the first time I’ve ever done anything like this, and it generated plenty of new followers on our account. It’s nice that people are still reaching out to me for technical assistance and this project has certainly helped me create and build a new community where I can demonstrate more about home automation.” The pair also planned a giveaway at the end of the project, which saw Adam offer a £6,000 media room to one of Louise’s followers. While there are plenty of tales of companies not having the best experience when working with influencers, this couldn’t be further from the truth for Art of Integration. “It was my first-time working with a proper influencer in Louise and she had us in the forefront of what she was doing. She was always taking videos, creating reels for us, and I just thought that was a fantastic thing for our company. I’ve found it a positive experience. It’s

SMART THINKING
WAVEFORMING EXPLAINED David Meyerowitz, Technical Sales Manager - International at Trinnov Audio gives EI readers a detailed rundown of the company’s recently unveiled WaveForming technology, designed to deliver next level audio performance. Read on for part two. It’s important to note that WaveForming is not

just a case of putting a microphone in the room, pressing go and walking away. You first need to understand the physics of low-frequency sound in a room and that to overcome these issues, you need to place subwoofers in the correct positions. The good news is that Trinnov has developed a web page enabling you to enter some basic room parameters and have the tool tell you how many subwoofers you need and where to place them to get the best results. It’s then up to you to decide what’s physically possible and begin the process of defining the final positions. In an ideal world, you would strictly follow the number and positions as recommended by the tool, but we are aware this may not always be practical from a budgetary or construction standpoint. The good news is that the algorithm is actually quite forgiving. This means that WaveForming can accommodate a degree of subwoofer displacement from the ideal positions and still achieve a significant

improvement. This is explained in detail in our subwoofer position guidelines. There are two principal parameters to address in determining the number and the position of the subwoofers. First is height and width of the front and rear walls, and the second is, the upper frequency that you wish to correct. This means that for any given room size, multiple levels of cost and performance are possible, with better performance defined as control to a higher frequency. This option gives you a kind of good, better, best approach, which we are all used to offering. As an example, let’s look at a typical room size and show the available options. Here, the room is 2.7m high and 5m wide. When looking at the frequency range, you’ll see we offer three solutions based on upper frequency limits of 80Hz, 100Hz, and over 120Hz.

120Hz and above would require six subs in the front and six subs in the back positioned as shown in Fig 3 below.
These examples are based on the maximum performance achievable for each given number of subwoofers and their position. It is possible to reduce the number of subwoofers when necessary, preferably in the rear. So, a 4x4 could be reduced to a 4x3 or even a 4x2. Rear wall reductions will affect the seat-to-seat consistency and the decay time; however, these reductions still provide greatly improved performance over conventional setups and Trinnov can predict the effect with a high level of accuracy. Here’s a real-world solution that uses the 20 channels available on an Altitude16 AV processor. In this example, there would be nine bed layer speakers, seven subwoofers (four front, three back), and four overhead speakers, making a 9.7.4 cinema. This is an ideal solution for this particular room size for two rows of seats and WaveForming correction up to approximately 100Hz. This layout is very similar to what you already see in many rooms worldwide and would provide a significant

performance advantage over a traditional four-corner subwoofer solution. WaveForming technology also opens the door beyond dedicated cinema rooms. Any high-performance audio room will also benefit from WaveForming. Whether it’s a media room or a Hi-Fi room, all suffer with bass issues. Ultimately, cost is always a factor in any system design process. But if you think about it logically, the number of hours of planning and simulating it takes to create a passive acoustic solution that still won’t match this level of performance is also very expensive. It’s also impractical in numerous instances to give up so much space in the room to accommodate the absorption material and depth required to deal with these low frequencies. The technology even gives the integrator the ability to tune WaveForming’s performance to meet the client’s preference. It enables

different listening modes by adjusting the amount of decay. For example, you can use different decay times for more than one listening mode. This means you have the option for a more precise tuning for music and something more loose and lively for movies, which is impossible with passive solutions. In conclusion, WaveForming provides integrators with the opportunity to achieve predictable results at previously unattainable performance levels for their clients.

ESSENTIAL CEDIA
USE ISE AS A PLATFORM FOR GETTING UP TO SPEED ON CEDIA EDUCATION Chris Verbinnen, Home Technology Architect and Managing Director at Verbinnen Smart Home Concepts, talks education. Verbinnen Smart Home Concepts began in Belgium in 1964. I joined in 1979, and over time the company has grown into a dynamic AV consultancy and proud CEDIA member. Our story began in a small electronics store for audio and visual enthusiasts. In those early days, we focussed exclusively on AV products, such as radios and televisions. The turning point was in 1985, when we secured a deal with Danish high-end consumer electronics company, Bang & Olufsen, who was one of the first to start implementing music distribution systems in homes. One project stands out vividly in my memory from the early days – a custom installation for a visionary client who desired music in every nook and cranny, from the cellar to each bathroom. This marked a departure from the routine of selling radios and TVs. I found the challenge of turning a client’s ambitious vision into reality to be not just exciting but also immensely rewarding. It was the kind of work I had dreamed of doing since my younger days – designing and implementing extraordinary, immersive experiences. The desire to expand our horizons led me to England in 2004, where I attended my first CEDIA show in London. Seeing the incredible solutions available for building technologicallyadvanced homes was a game-changer. Since then, I’ve attended many CEDIA shows in the UK and USA and find them to be incredibly valuable experiences. I have also been attending ISE since the inaugural 2004 ISE show in Brussels. In 2024, ISE is returning to the lovely city of Barcelona – a great location for the show. While I am of course looking forward to seeing the cutting-edge technologies that companies will be launching at the show, and having the opportunity to network with industry peers, the most important aspect to the show for our company is the training that CEDIA offers. As
46 JANUARY 2024
our team has grown over the years, it’s extremely important for my technicians to attend regular educational courses, but taking time out of a busy workload is hard to do. This is why the CEDIA programmes at ISE are so useful – you can buy an education pass and register for as many sessions as you can fit into your visit. This means that you walk away from the show with a load of training under your belt and it all being completed in one chunk of time. As for me, my educational focus is now business-oriented training. Over the last few years, CEDIA has developed a fantastic programme of business courses. I attended a great training session last year with industry veteran and CEDIA Fellow, Leslie Shiner to help ensure we’re going in the right direction with the company. As we gear up for ISE, I am not just excited about the technology on display, but equally thrilled about the potential for growth and collaboration. The journey from selling radios to crafting immersive AV experiences has been nothing short of exceptional, and the right education has played an important role in this. For those navigating the CI industry, CEDIA and ISE are valuable companions in your journey. This year, CEDIA is offering nearly 60 hours of courses within its conference, covering topic areas such as technical installation and design, business excellence, and future trends; all through the lens of home technology integration. ESSENTIAL CEDIA RESEARCH
SMART HOME BY THE NUMBERS CEDIA’s reinvigorated research approach uncovers UK professional smart home industry nears £2.9 Billion. With new data streams and industry-wide participation, CEDIA captures a holistic view of the UK smart home industry in its 2023 Professional Smart Home Market Analysis. CEDIA has released its 2023 Professional Smart Home Market Analysis in partnership with cutting-edge market research firm, Ancrage Consulting LLC. For the first time ever, CEDIA has bolstered integrator survey responses with specification data from WeQuote and insights from 45 leading UK manufacturers and distributors. UK residential integrators of all types and sizes are represented in the report. Data was collected through short surveys fielded to integrators from July-Aug 2023 as well as through WeQuote’s quoting and sales management tool. CEDIA has structured the analysis to identify key priorities, including the size of the integrated home industry, areas of expenditure, project size, frequency and type, preferred brands by category and future trends and investment areas.
• Integration firms complete a median of 14 projects per year and employ a median of four employees. • Integration firms earn a median annual residential revenue of £300,000. • There’s a growing trend toward a younger industry demographic, with 19% having entered the field within the past five years. • Half of the participants expect to add technical personnel in the next 12 months. • The categories expected to grow the most over the next 12 months are media rooms, home cinema, outdoor AV systems, and lighting/shading.
“This year’s approach to research was revolutionary thanks to our partnership with WeQuote and greater industry cooperation,” says CEDIA Global President and CEO Daryl Friedman. “It is CEDIA’s unique role to provide this type of information for our members, which helps them run their businesses and guide us on how best to serve our industry.” The 2023 Professional Smart Home Market Analysis UK is free to download for CEDIA members from the CEDIA Store. Non-members may purchase a copy of the report for £999. CEDIA cedia.org
Key findings: • The UK market is estimated at £2.9B and is supported by favourable industry growth projections for the next 12 months. • Approximately 3,700 integrators are currently serving the UK market. • Integrators play a dominant role in product and brand selection, with 80% indicating they have sole or ‘a lot of’ influence over customer purchasing decisions.

ESSENTIAL HOME CINEMA AND MEDIA ROOM SEATING
A FORTRESS OF COMFORT Gabi Wolper, President at Fortress Seating, offers insight into current trends and sector shaping forces in the cinema and media room space. Can you offer us your insight into what furniture and consumer trends are shaping the market? There are the home cinema purists that really love the idea of reclining theatre seats and we have seen the demand for that remain pretty steady. People do like to add in various accessories like USB charging, storage compartments, removable tables that fit in the cup holder, or motorised headrests so they can get that perfect viewing angle. We have found that chaise lounges continue to be popular options along with deep, comfortable sofas to give the theatre a more relaxed feel. We’ll often see people mix the two options to get the best of both worlds, where they’ll do a row of theatre seats and then have some sort of sectional/ lounger configuration for the front row when they just want to stretch out. For the media rooms, more and more people are wanting some sort of reclining sofa that doesn’t look like theatre seating. They like the functionality of theatre seating, but also want a deep, comfy sofa that they can relax on. We’ve been seeing a fair amount of these types of requests, whether it be a sectional that incorporates chaise lounges, or reclining mechanism, this will continue to be popular and gives the client a lot of flexibility for their seating solutions.
50 JANUARY 2024
Are sustainability issues a concern? Fortress strives to find sustainable alternatives to the components that make up our chairs as well as the packaging for shipping. We also always want to be able to fulfil all special requests, so if someone wants to be able to use a more naturally produced foam or prefers a ‘vegan leather’ then we have different options for them to choose from. We’ve even had requests from some clients that are very sensitive to certain products produced in furniture and they want us to use particular hypoallergenic products in the construction of our furniture, and we’re always happy to accommodate.
What styles of seats are showing the most growth? We’ve seen a trend towards more contemporary designs with clean lines. It seems a lot of the new home construction tends to follow this trend and they want their furniture to match the overall look of the homes. We try to create models that will work with different design elements, but also always strive to make the seats comfortable and ergonomic since people will be sitting in the chairs for 2+ hours. Blending these two elements (design and comfort) can sometimes be a challenge, but because we manufacture all our own furniture we are really able to fine tune the little details and find that balance between the form and function.
The most popular seats tend to be the ones that offer good lumbar support, are comfortable upright as well as reclined, and when reclined have an articulating option to bring your head forward so you’re looking at the screen. Fortress offers several styles that can achieve all these things.
Tell us about some of your favourite examples of going the extra mile with seating. We do a lot of custom designs for our clients, and while these can be the most challenging projects to get things just right, they also can be a lot of fun, because you’re working on something very unique. We have a current client that is really into Porsches, especially classic ones, and they wanted their theatre seating to match the design of a classic Porsche. So, they sent over some inspiration images from their classic Porsche, and we started building a prototype. In working with the client on the design we made a few modifications until we got it just the way they wanted it. We also found the same classic houndstooth fabric to use in combination with the leather to really give it that classic look. The chairs are in production now, so you’ll have to check back with us to see the finished product!

ESSENTIAL HOME CINEMA AND MEDIA ROOM SEATING
CINEAK’s largo features a patented triple motor system for optimum comfort!
CRUCIAL COMFORT, SERIOUS STYLE Rik Hellemans, Co-owner at CINEAK Luxury Seating, settles down to provide some insight into the seating sector. Since the pandemic we have noticed an increase in popularity of multi-purpose entertainment spaces. As much as we observe growth in the number of dedicated residential home theatres as well, these entertainment rooms have gained popularity. Sofa-style motorised theatre seating in combination with a large screen, poker- and pool table – basically the ‘mancave’ - seems to be trending. Even if the residence already has a dedicated theatre. Speaking about dedicated theatres, these aren’t any longer solely used for the purpose of movie-watching. The constantly increasing availability of streamed content offers additional access to all kinds of entertainment, such as concerts, opera, ballet, games and documentaries. Over the past couple of years, we have observed some decline of the traditional high-back theatre seat. As comfortable and ergonomic (at least ours are) as these seats might be, mostly the interior design community has shifted toward low-back, sofa style (motorised) seating. It would be fair to say that only about 20 to 30% of the seating we build falls under the category of traditional theatre seating as we’ve known it for decades.

Our design sofas prioritise comfort without compromising on style. Unlike traditional fixed furniture, these sofas offer a range of adjustable features, including motorised reclining, headrest adjustments and seat depth modifications. This customisable comfort ensures that viewers can find their ideal seating position, providing support to the body during long movie sessions. The ergonomically designed cushions and premium materials further contribute to a luxurious and cozy cinema experience. We were the first to introduce adjustable chaise bed sofas. The importance of this feature within a cinema setting cannot be overstated. Unlike a fixed sofa bed, an adjustable chaise bed sofa offers unparalleled comfort and convenience. Additionally, the flexibility of an adjustable chaise bed sofa allows it to transform seamlessly into a comfortable lounging space. The adjustability factor elevates the overall cinema experience, providing a versatile and cozy seating solution for any entertainment occasion. luxurious leather to high-quality fabrics, the choice of upholstery ensures not only visual appeal but also durability and longevity. Our high-quality furniture is not a commodity that can be considered disposable and is designed, built, and specified to last for decades, if not a lifetime. Therefore, it’s fair to say that sustainability issues are not things we get confronted with by our clientele. While a decade ago, most theatre furniture was finished in leather, an increase of fabric as the upholstery of choice is very noticeable. It is uncertain if this has to do with considerations in regards to sustainability, or the switch from traditional (high-back) theatre furniture to sofa-style seating. At CINEAK, as a company and team, we always go the extra mile. From initial seating layout proposal to delivery of the furniture, we treat every project as if it’s our own theatre or entertainment room. It’s dedication. Our partners, audio-video integrators and interior designers are aware of this commitment and CINEAK’s capability to accommodate almost any customisation or request the endclient desires.

ESSENTIAL HOME CINEMA AND MEDIA ROOM SEATING
COLLABORATION IS KEY Darren Barker, Design Director at install company Cinema Luxe, delivers his view on the now and the future of the seating sector.
Cinema seating has typically been a product that falls under the supply of the home integrator, often as part of a wider scheme for not only the supply and installation of cinema technology, but the room fit-out itself. Whilst there is now an increased product offering available to integrators for lowerbacked, sleek and contemporary seating, the supply chain is still dominated by high-backed, traditional theatre seating. Whilst comfortable and practical, this aesthetic is often at odds with the client’s interior vision for their room, and this can be further exaggerated if there is a strong-minded interior designer collaborating on the project. The question to ask is, is the chosen seating being driven by client wishes or simply by the products (and margin) that are currently available to the integrator? Does the client really require a multi-motor setup, complete with integrated lighting, cupholders and gadgetry, when a contemporary chaise sofa and custom side tables may fit the room and clients family better? Modern clients are now often fully engaged with interior design trends and are frequently well researched on the available options. I firmly believe that the aesthetics of the room now, more often than not, drive the system and technology sale. The more the AV install professional can be in tune with this, the more likely they are to earn trust (and in turn, significant orders) from the client. Over recent years, the market has definitely shifted towards cinemas being a family space rather than a formal viewing and listening environment. So, it is of no surprise that the market for individual cinema seating is shifting towards larger, sofa-style setups. Some manufacturers are doing a great job of making these products available and understanding the shift in focus. At Cinema Luxe, we are developing our modular sofa product ‘The Rockstar’, with the aim of competing in this market and we have a clear
52 JANUARY 2024
and simple brief; develop a product that an interior designer would specify. I also question (and it may not be a popular opinion), whether the scope of seating should fall under the integrator at all. As a direct comparison, it would likely be a complete disaster should the client or interior designer take the reins on specifying a control system infrastructure. The best solution here is collaboration. Where each industry professional’s skillsets are best utilised in their own specialist areas. The outcome of this is better projects being delivered and shared margins and profitability for all. Cinema Luxe is a turnkey interior design and fit-out company dedicated to cinema rooms and exclusively a B2B supplier for the technology and construction industries. For that reason, I am conscious of this opinion sounding like a sales pitch for our services, which is not its intention. We are fortunate to have some superb AV partners across the UK that not only trust our opinion, but also to deliver rooms on their behalf. More often than not, we do not actually supply the seating, but advise on what is the best solution for the client and room. We detach ourselves from the profitability aspect, and that way we can give our objective opinion. When we do supply seating, our AV partners are able to make a good margin on our services, as is the
case with the complete package that we offer, so it is a win-win scenario. Moving back to the subject of seating trends, the simple answer is that clients want a better looking, more lifestyle-focused option than what has previously been available. Material selection is always important - understanding the different properties of fabric options available and how that translates to long term wear, compliance with fire regulations, current aesthetic trends as well as a welcome shift to using more sustainable materials. Making the right choices here is something that only comes with experience and professional knowledge. Our mutual clients are demanding, they expect the best product to meet their needs and when the proposal does not translate to reality, any additional margin gained on offering the seating product can quickly disappear when the need to resolve issues arises. I believe that clients should listen to their integrator and accept their advice on the best system design. Years of knowledge, training and experience makes you best placed to deliver the right solution for their project. Equally though, I feel that projects could be elevated if the technology world collaborated more closely with interior design professionals. Let’s utilise each other’s expertise to deliver best-in-class rooms and increase our all-round profitability as a result.

ESSENTIAL HOME CINEMA AND MEDIA ROOM SEATING
THE CINEMATIC EVOLUTION: PAVONE DESIGN’S VISION ON TRENDS IN CINEMA SEATING Steve Thorne, Design Director at Pavone Design, shares his perspectives on the trends and challenges shaping the future of cinema seating. In the ever-evolving world of cinema, the way we experience movies is being transformed, not just by the march of audio and video technology, but also by refinements to the art of cinema seating design. Believe me, there is as much energy devoted to raising the quality and comfort of cinema seating as there is in the development of ever finer video resolutions or more enveloping audio formats. After four decades of design for the most demanding international clients, I’ve concluded that thinking about what happens at the centre of a cinema design - about the welfare of the audience - is as important to the suspension of disbelief as what goes on the walls and ceiling. When every first encounter with luxury cinema is defined by the seats you choose, it follows that seating design is as critical to the immersive cinema experience as decisions about screen size, projector, channel count, processing and power. There’s plenty to consider.
SPATIAL DYNAMICS
BALANCING COMFORT AND PRACTICALITY
cinema immersion.
Balancing the competing demands of comfort and practicality is a perpetual challenge in cinema seating. We’re continually focussed on the ergonomics of our designs to achieve the successful merging of style, practicality and comfort appropriate to every environment. Whether it’s a luxury cinema, media space, auditorium, or a casual social area, the right blend of fine design detail with materials like Alcantara, Nubuck and Napa leathers will optimise the look, feel and durability of the seating experience. For me, striking this balance is the essential design outcome.
The struggle to fit in more seats without sacrificing comfort is a spatial puzzle that the team at Pavone embraces. Even though it’s a given that media spaces allow for a more relaxed layout while auditoriums focus on maximising spatial planning, the precise working of a seating plan requires the experience and understanding of spatial dynamics in your design capabilities. Of course, we’d be delighted to contribute these skills to your project.
LIGHTING THE WAY When the screen is the primary source of light in the cinema, it’s important that the seats don’t join in, so at Pavone Design we make material choices that minimise light reflection. It’s another small but effective element in our completest approach to generating optimum
SUSTAINABLE CINEMA SEATING Sustainability isn’t a buzzword at Pavone; it’s a guiding principle. Any serious contributor to the art of cinema seating design must consider materials and manufacturing processes which favour sustainability and recyclable materials. For me, luxury eco-friendly solutions are no longer an aspiration, but essential to our design future.
GLOBAL HARMONY IN DESIGN
For custom integrators working across borders, my experience of many diverse projects on practically every continent tells me that cultural differences do not impact cinema seat preferences significantly. Rather, the desire for stylish, comfortable cinema experiences is universal; you just need to choose a supplier who’s been there and done it!
THE DESIGN SPACE BETWEEN COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL IS FLUID
The fight for paying customers means that comfort and styling are taking precedence in the commercial market as well, and not just in the art cinema spaces. Our experience in winning business across the piece by balancing numbers with seating style and comfort (spatial dynamics) gives us a unique perspective on seating design. Shaped by these elements, Pavone’s Auditorium range is purpose built to satisfy the heightened demands of new commercial cinema spaces. In essence what I’m saying is that cinema seating design is as specialised as every other key element in your cinema project, especially when it comes from a supplier with a heritage of success across markets and continents, involving the harmonious interplay of AV, acoustics and comfort for the most tailored and immersive cinematic experiences, commercial and residential. Priorities are changing everywhere. Need help? Just ask.
TECH-INFUSED COMFORT
By meeting the clamour for fingertip control, cinema seating can play its part in the touchsavvy future. Although audience comfort remains the primary goal of seating design innovation, it must also embrace their spiralling expectations of technology, hence my priority for integrating touch controls, silent automation, wireless charging, LED lighting and massage controls to enhance the user experience. Inevitably design will need to include more of these features.

PREPARING FOR THE WORST Why every business needs a crisis management strategy. David Fell, former system integrator with in-depth knowledge of technology, business development, and business strategy on a global scale, has a plan. In today’s business world, companies face a wide range of risks and uncertainties that can threaten their operations and reputation. From natural disasters to cyber-attacks, PR crises and economic downturns, the list of potential threats is endless. While no one can predict the future, businesses can take steps to prepare for the worst and minimise the impact of a crisis. That’s where a crisis management strategy comes in - a plan that outlines how a company will respond to a crisis and mitigate its effects. In this article, we’ll explore why every business needs a crisis management plan and how to create one that works.
THE IMPORTANCE OF CRISIS MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
A crisis can take many forms, from natural disasters, pandemics and cyber-attacks to product recalls, lawsuits and PR scandals. Regardless of the type of crisis, the impact on a business can be severe and long-lasting. That’s why it’s crucial for businesses to have a crisis

management strategy in place. A well-designed crisis management plan can help a business to: Respond quickly and effectively to a crisis, minimise the impact of the crisis on the business and its stakeholders, protect the reputation and brand image of the business, maintain business operations and continuity and regain the trust and confidence of customers, employees and investors.
TYPES OF CRISES
Some of the most common types of crises are natural disasters, cyber-attacks, PR crises, financial crises, operational issues and of course pandemics. Each type of crisis requires a different response and mitigation strategy, making it essential for businesses to identify potential risks and plan for them accordingly. The impact of a crisis on a business can be severe and long-lasting. A crisis can damage the business’s reputation and brand image, lead to loss of revenue and customers, disrupt business operations and supply chains, cause legal and regulatory issues, cause layoffs and employee
turnover as well as affect investor confidence and stock prices.
THE KEY ELEMENTS OF A CRISIS MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
A crisis management strategy should include the following key elements: A crisis management team. A crisis management team is a group of individuals responsible for managing the response to a crisis. The team should include representatives from different departments, such as HR, legal, PR, IT and operations. The team should be trained and prepared to respond to a crisis quickly and effectively. A crisis management plan is a detailed document that outlines the steps to be taken in response to a crisis. The plan should include: The roles and responsibilities of the crisis management team, the communication plan for internal and external stakeholders, protocols for assessing and mitigating the impact of the crisis and the process for resuming normal business operations.

A crisis communication plan is a critical component of a crisis management strategy. The plan should outline how the business will communicate with internal and external stakeholders during a crisis. The plan should include the key messages to be communicated, the channels of communication, such as social media, email and press releases, the spokespersons for the business, protocols for monitoring and responding to social media and other online channels. The crisis communication plan should be tested and refined regularly to ensure its effectiveness. A backup and recovery plan is a plan for restoring business operations in the event of a crisis. The plan should include a backup plan for critical systems and data, a plan for restoring normal business operations, a plan for managing employee safety and well-being. The backup and recovery plan should be regularly tested and updated to ensure its effectiveness.
HOW TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL RISKS
CONDUCT A RISK ASSESSMENT
A risk assessment is a process of identifying and evaluating potential risks to the business. The assessment should consider various factors, such as the business’s location, industry and operations. The assessment should identify potential risks, their likelihood and their potential impact on the business.

DEVELOPING A COMMUNICATION PLAN FOR CRISES
A crisis communication plan is a critical component of a crisis management strategy. The plan should outline how the business will communicate with internal and external stakeholders during a crisis. The following steps can help businesses to develop a crisis communication plan. Identify key stakeholders, individuals or groups who may be affected by a crisis and who have a vested interest in the business’s operations and reputation. The stakeholders may include customers, employees, investors, suppliers, regulators and the media.
DEVELOP KEY MESSAGES
The first step in creating a crisis management strategy is to identify potential risks and plan for them. The following steps can help businesses to identify potential risks:
DEVELOP A RISK MANAGEMENT PLAN
minimise the impact of potential risks, the resources needed to implement the plan and the protocols for monitoring and responding to potential risks. The risk management plan should be regularly reviewed and updated as needed to ensure its effectiveness.
The messages should be clear, concise, and consistent across all communication channels. The channels may include social media, email, press releases, and phone calls. Designate spokespersons who will speak on behalf of the business during a crisis. The spokespersons should be trained and prepared to communicate the key messages to stakeholders. Monitor and respond to social media Social media can be a powerful tool for communicating with stakeholders during a crisis. The business should monitor social media channels and respond to any inquiries or concerns promptly and effectively.
THE ROLE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN CRISIS MANAGEMENT
Social media has become an essential tool for crisis management. During a crisis, social media can be used to communicate key messages to
/Essentialinstall
stakeholders, monitor and respond to inquiries and concerns, correct misinformation and rumours, provide updates on the crisis and the business’s response. However, social media can also pose risks during a crisis, such as the spread of rumours and misinformation. That’s why it’s crucial for businesses to have a crisis communication plan that includes protocols for monitoring and responding to social media during a crisis.
TESTING AND REFINING YOUR CRISIS MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
A crisis management strategy is only effective if it’s tested and refined regularly. The following steps can help businesses to test and refine their crisis management strategy. A crisis simulation is a practice run of the crisis management strategy, the simulation should be as realistic as possible and involve the crisis management team and other stakeholders. Evaluate the effectiveness of the crisis management strategy after the crisis simulation, the crisis management team should evaluate the effectiveness of the strategy and identify any gaps or areas for improvement. Update the crisis management strategy based on the evaluation, the crisis management strategy should be updated and refined as needed to ensure its effectiveness.
CONCLUSION
A crisis can strike any business at any time, making it crucial for businesses to be prepared. A crisis management strategy is a plan for responding to a crisis and minimising its impact on the business and its stakeholders. A crisis management strategy should include a crisis management team, a crisis management plan, a crisis communication plan and a backup and recovery plan. Businesses should identify potential risks and plan for them, develop a crisis communication plan and test and refine their crisis management strategy regularly. By taking these steps, businesses can be better prepared for the worst and minimise the impact of a crisis on their operations, reputation and success.

ESSSENTIAL SANUS
SANUS SETS THE SCENE 2023 has been a busy year for SANUS, with new products being introduced, collaborations with major consumer brands and an even closer focus on the CI channel. EI met with Dean Carroll, International Sales Director – Consumer, and James Aitken, Regional Sales Manager UK & Ireland, to discover all that has happened during the year and what lies ahead for 2024. 2023 has clearly been a busy period for the brand. Can you tell us what have been the highlights for SANUS during 2023? Dean Carroll (DC): For SANUS in the custom installation channel, 2023 has been about focusing on the core products that installers need for their customers’ projects, and maximising our exposure to the UK CI market to reinforce the message that SANUS products are the perfect solutions. We’ve also introduced a number of new products during the year which take us in new and interesting directions. EI: Specifically what activities you have undertaken to achieve your profile-raising objectives? DC: Kathleen Hayden, our marketing and communications specialist for the EMEA region has been spearheading the initiative to increase visibility among the CI channel. At the beginning of the year we re-appointed a specialist CE PR consultancy to enhance our profile in the specialist media – we felt it would be advantageous to direct communications specifically for the UK from within the UK, as our market positioning and requirements are different from those in our biggest, and home market, the US. Kathleen has also been working on enhancing our social media presence and creating dedicated newsletters for the installers to talk about subjects that are of direct relevance to them.
62 JANUARY 2024
And, as always, we attended the EI Live! show as it’s such a great way of getting in front of the installers with the products. They can be hands on with them and talk to our sales and product specialists about their requirements; and this year with our new product introductions the stand was busier than ever. EI: It’s always a full programme of product launches that SANUS has throughout the year. What have been the highlights for you this past 12 months and what’s caught the attention of your CI channel customers?
James Aitken (JA): It’s been a year for new full motion mounts aimed at the installers. We kick-started the year with the launch of the VLSF820, our new super-slim heavy duty full-motion mount for very large TVs. It proved an instant hit due to its extreme low-profile design and use of our six-arm design – making it extremely robust and stable. And a first for SANUS was the introduction of an in-wall full motion mount. This is the perfect product for the CI market and was one of the main attractions at EI Live!. It’s designed to mount within a stud wall and when folded flat

places the TV absolutely flush with the wall – the interior designers love them! EI: There was a garden area on your stand at the show. What was that about? JA: In time for the British summer we launched our new outdoor TV mounts to partner weatherproof screens. There’s a rapidly growing trend, even in the UK, for outdoor entertaining and the two new models we launched – a fixed and a full motion mount – have been designed to withstand the harshest of conditions, so they can be left outside for the other 50 weeks of the year. EI: You collaborated with Sonos on a range of new products too this year. Can you elaborate on this relationship for us? DC: SANUS has a very good working partnership with Sonos and we were involved early during the ERA 100 and ERA 300 speaker design process. This enabled us to create a series of products that are dedicated to the new Sonos speakers, including fixed and height-adjustable speaker stands and wall brackets, and also to launch them on the same day as Sonos announced its launch. While not specifically aimed at installers, as the ERA speakers are very much retail consumer products, we all know how much Sonos is supplied by custom installers. They proved very popular on the stand at EI Live! and sales into this channel have been encouraging. EI: Let’s look ahead to 2024. What does this year have in store for SANUS? DC: We hit the ground running in 2024 with attendance at the CES Show in Las Vegas to kick-start the year. I’m then back in the US shortly after that for our product road map meeting at which our launches and timescales will be confirmed. Obviously, I can’t comment on any specifics at the moment, but I know we’ll be introducing new products that are going to be perfect for our CI customer base. Having increased our focus on custom install this year, we’ll be continuing this approach and building upon it. A familiar face to some will be returning to assist with marketing activities, as Jesper Kessels re-joins the internal marketing function, alongside a new recruit in the sales team who starts in early ’24. EI: Will we see you at other shows during the year? DC: Yes, we will back at EI Live! and the 2024 show will coincide with a major product launch, so the timing is perfect to show off new models to the visiting installers and distributors. We’ll also be attending a number of distributor events throughout the year, in order to maximise our exposure and interaction with installers. The feedback we get from these events is invaluable

@Install_mag
2023 witnessed a successful collaboration with Sonos
and is sent straight back to our product development teams in the US, so they really do understand the needs of this sector. And, once again, we will have a large presence at the Cedia Expo in the US, at which we will be showcasing the new products, just before we bring them over to the UK for EI Live. EI: You visit customers on a regular basis, what are you hearing from them about requirements for the channel? JA: The product introductions we’ve made this year have proved to be very popular with installers. We’re constantly innovating to meet market needs and with many of the engineers at SANUS being ex-installers themselves, they understand how to deliver what the industry needs from the feedback received. This can be seen in the proprietary technologies they have introduced across our products, such as the FluidMotion operation for effortless swivel, tilt and extension movement and the VirtualAxis system. The engineers continue to develop these technologies and introduce new ones based on the feedback we bring to them from the field. In terms of specific products, with the growth of outdoor entertainment, the introduction of our outdoor mounts was perfect timing and have been very well received. The same can be said of the in-wall mount – this really ticked the boxes for installers, who love its flat to the wall design and the fact that you can hide media boxes and power supplies etc. in its wall box. We’re always keen to learn what people need and so I’d ask that any installers reading this who have ideas please pass them on to us, so we can feed them back into the engineering team.
And, while I’m no economist, maybe there is a glimmer of hope that with the lowering of inflation and the stabilising of interest rates, the pressures on households may slowly ease during the year, enabling some of those currently stalled install projects that we hear about to be re-started, which can only be good for our custom installation partners. Next year we’ve got Euro 2024 in June and July, which traditionally sees a spike in TV sales in the run up to the tournament. So I am hopeful it will follow the same pattern this coming year and provide an uplift in attachment sales for TV mounts and associated accessories, such as in-wall boxes and soundbar mounts, cementing SANUS’ ownership of the TV and surrounding space. I do know that we won’t be slowing down on our market activities and creation of exciting new products, and we look forward to sharing these with the installers over the coming months. Custom Installation is definitely growing as a channel for SANUS and I am very confident that it will continue to do so over the course of the year. So my prediction is that more and more installers will recognise the importance of specifying the best quality products for their customers, because of the security of knowing they won’t have problems or be called back to site. That can only be good for customers, installers, distributors and SANUS. SANUS sanus.com
EI: Finally, what are your predictions for the coming year? DC: We’ve been pretty happy with our performance during 2023, in what has been a very tough market, given all the well documented pressures on household finances.

SMART THINKING
CABLE CARE & MAINTENANCE TOP TIPS Chris Mellor-Dolman, Head of Marketing at Webro has some advice for those wishing to get the very best performance from their cables. Cables can easily fall into the ‘fit and forget’ category, but the importance of proper cable care can’t be underestimated. Maintaining and protecting them should be a priority within any project to preserve the safety, integrity and performance of the devices they connect to. Poor maintenance inevitably comes back to bite you. Neglect a car and it soon lets you know it’s not happy. Cables are no different. Ignorance often results in a catalogue of problems that range from intermittent outages to complete failures that mean you’re constantly waiting to firefight. Look after cables and they’ll pay you back – quite literally. Otherwise, you could get caught up in a never-ending cycle of fail-replace-fail, which hits the pocket in terms of new cables and the labour required to fit them. Downtime costs money. With equipment out of action disruption can be widespread, and at the heart of it is someone’s reputation. Damaged cables present a hazard to those working and living around them, from trips and falls to electrocution and fire. Poorly maintained cables can result in the substandard performance of connected devices. In more extreme cases it can cause surges, with the outcome being permanent damage.
HOW TO CARE FOR CABLES
The correct choice of cable for an installed application should always be the first consideration. Installing product unsuitable for the installation area will be the start of a painful relationship with the connected equipment and its reliability. Observe these simple cable management tips to ensure durability, efficiency and safety. Properly coiled cables kept in the right storage environment, i.e. in cool, dry locations away from sunlight, is ideal. Storing them in colder locations can cause them to become rigid and thus difficult to install, so they should be acclimatised to reach a warmer temperature wherever possible. Be careful, whether it’s launching them off the back of a delivery trailer, or dropping them between floors on a building site, we’ve seen it all. Cables are robust, but they’re not bombproof! Yes, metal-based cables are sturdier than glass fibre cables for example of course, but why take the risk? Handle all cables with due care
64 JANUARY 2024
and you’ll be safe in the knowledge that what you’re installing is intact. Careful installation: cables have to be routed through a wide variety of different obstacles. From holes in walls to pass-throughs in servers, avoid the obvious hazards to cable integrity by smoothing rough edges, using grommets and employing conduit to provide corrosion and chemical protection where applicable. Best practice is wherever practically possible to install cables where it’s dry and not subject to extreme (especially fluctuating) temperatures. Where this is unavoidable, be sure to use specialist products that are designed specifically for such applications. Ignorance is no defence. You need to inspect your cables as part of an ongoing cable maintenance plan. Look for the obvious visual cues such as fraying, knots and damage to the outer sheath. Electrical testing is advised too, which will detect any deficiencies inside the cables. Use the correct cable length in every application. The more surplus cable you have, the higher the damage risk. Strangulation can affect the performance of delicate cables such as ethernet and other data cables and it can also lead to safety risks due to bundled cables potentially getting too hot, so never overtighten. It can also impede signals, hampering performance. Velcro type material (hook and eye) options are best for network and AV products. Overfilling equipment such as cable trays can result in cable damage – excessive weight
on high-performance products can cause insulation damage, resulting in unacceptable impedance, attenuation and crosstalk as well as increased safety risk from potential fire. Without exception every cable has a minimum bend radius. Overbend and the signal decays – especially in network cables where productivity is then lost.
HOW TO CLEAN CABLES
The regular cleaning of cables serves two purposes. Firstly, it ensures that cables aren’t subject to a build-up of contaminants, which can cause them to degrade prematurely. Secondly, it ensures that cables get a close inspection where signs of damage can be spotted early. You might not be aware, but there are dedicated cable cleaning products on the market that you can buy. Many are solventbased liquids and are highly effective at removing dirt and contaminants including grease and oils. These solutions also provide the basis for cable cleaning wipes, which come in handy dispensers. Avoid abrasive cloths and aggressive cleaning liquids as they can cause material surfaces to degrade. Always remember to follow appropriate health and safety guidelines when using cleaning products. Ultimately, cables are the connectivity backbone of countless systems and yet they’re often fitted and forgotten about. Neglecting cables is the certain route to undermining safety integrity and performance.
Correctly installed cables promote longevity and enhance performance

James adds, “Most of C SEED’s customers are the mid to high-end in terms of spending power. Although many of them have an integrated control system, an expensive HiFi or media room, they are often not aware of new MicroLED screen technology, let alone the unfolding innovation that C SEED brings to the table. Once educated, they appreciate the practicality and wow factor! As an example, the new N1 137in outdoor unfolding TV is €218,000, so very similar to price to a luxury car.” C SEED TVs are already drawn up in 2D CAD and 3D design files, making it easy for any designer involved to integrate into an over design for the home. The maker’s advice is to give these to the designer at an early
stage, as they will most likely be creating 3D renders of the home and garden, and installers can of course use them in their own designs and renders. Design factors that are assessed include assessing what the viewing distance is between seating and screen, and maximising the positioning relationship. Other questions to consider include: Can the screen be fully recessed in the ground? Or should it be surface mounted? Does the central column need to be extended or reduced so the TV is at a better viewing height? How far is the central equipment room (more than 90m, then fibre optics is needed)? How many speakers will fill the area with an even level of background music? Does the customer want party-level sound?
The screen can rotate to suit where the family is sitting

ESSENTIAL CASE STUDY All of C SEED’s products are a turnkey solution, so all equipment including a remote control is provided. AV installers can also integrate the TV’s control by using TCP/IP commands provided by C SEED, or already downloadable modules from control system manufacturers like Crestron. The speakers are programmed to be used independently from the TV, when the client just wants background music. The company explains that due to high demand, C SEED currently has a lead-time of six-to-nine months, but it is possible to deliver a TV quicker, so please check with the maker. There are plans to open a third production facility by the end of 2024 with ‘off the shelf’ TVs and retractable speaker systems becoming more readily available. Any integrated TV or speaker positioned needs to be planned and of course C SEED is the same. James says, “It’s an easy solution to specify in a retrofit/ new build, and we recommend getting C SEED involved as early as possible so there are no headaches (at least until you have your first project under your belt). This can be a lot easier in an outdoor space, as it’s just earth and tiles to dig up, with the occasional drainage system in the way.” Of course, once on-site challenges often arise and in this case the contractor changed the central rack room position at the last minute, due to adding more of their equipment in the original position. ATC LAUNCHES C4 SUB MK 2 ACTIVE SUBWOOFER SYSTEM New proprietary 12in driver, optimised motor mechanics and a 300W Class AB amplifier combine to deliver exceptional levels of performance for audiophile music and film devotees says ATC. Designed to unite the highest standards of driver and electronics engineering in a single system, the C4 Sub MK 2 deploys the all-new proprietary 12in SS75-314SC sub-bass driver powered by a newly developed 300W class AB amplifier design, both elements hand-built and installed within a substantial cabinet at the company’s Stroud-based production HQ. The SS75-314SC sub-bass driver exploits ATC’s signature short-coil/long-gap configuration to its natural limits with an exceptionally long 30mm magnetic gap, surrounded by a 6in/150mm N48M Neodymium magnet – the most powerful ever assembled by ATC and a first for the company. In support, the wholly redesigned motor system features a new rubber roll-surround for high excursion capability, a new spider for optimised compliance geometry, and high flow motor venting for low noise and compression. This unprecedented short-coil/long-gap configuration ensures the voice coil remains within the motor structure – even at high drive levels – maximising cooling, reducing power compression and improving reliability, says the maker. Turbulent air noise within the driver is minimised by a large, flared vent running through the centre of the motor structure, which has the added benefit of increasing voice coil and motor cooling.

The cabinet comes in standard Cherry, Black Ash, Walnut and Oak real-wood veneers, Satin Black and Satin White finishes, or in Rosewood, European Crown Cut Walnut, Burr Magnolia and Pippy Oak real-wood veneers
Consequently, the C4 Sub MK2 delivers an extended low-frequency response while avoiding electronic equalisation. Instead, the combination of innovative transducer engineering and a marginally larger cabinet volume is used. The simplicity of this approach reduces phase shift and group delay, aiding the integration of the sub with the partnering loudspeakers. The all-new 300W class AB design is precisely optimised to the requirements of the new driver, resulting in fast, dynamic bass with minimal colouration. Two balanced line inputs provide connectivity for stereo or AV/home cinema systems while two balanced outputs are available to feed partnering ‘main’ stereo loudspeakers or to ‘daisy-chain’ multiple subs.

SNAP ONE ADDS SOME INTELLIGENCE Snap One has introduced Luma Insights, a new AI-based surveillance solution for Control4 customers that leverages the power of artificial intelligence to enhance Luma Cameras as well as the Control4 Chime inside a customer’s Control4 System. The Luma Bridge device comes bundled with a three-year subscription to the Luma Insights service, which allows Partners to integrate powerful new AI and machine learning features that far exceed the capabilities of their IP cameras and NVRs alone. The Insights service is compatible at launch with Luma x10 and x20 IP cameras as well as the Control4 Chime Video Doorbell, and is integrator-friendly, requiring very minimal setup. Luma Insights enables seven-days of cloud-storage for snapshots and video clips of surveillance-triggered events which customers can access locally through their Control4 Touchscreens and remotely via Control4 App for iOS or Android. These ‘triggered events’ automatically generate a link and an image of the event, which are both added to a notification and pushed to the owner’s mobile device. Tapping the notification will link the customer deep into the Control4 app, either taking them right to a live feed if the event is ongoing or to immediate playback of the event with options to view more events, go to live view, or immediately share the event. This gives property owners realtime ability to take action or dismiss a notification.

PUT SOME HERITAGE ON THE BOOKSHELF Elipson Audio has announced the final addition to its Heritage line of speakers. The brand new XLS7 book-shelf model joins its larger siblings, the XLS11 and XLS15, to create a complete family of speakers. The XLS7 brings all the performance elements of the larger models and combines them with a compact form factor to give further flexibility when integrating into smaller rooms. The XLS7 is vintage in terms of styling and design, however the performance side of this loudspeaker is anything but, says its creator. Blending vintage aesthetic with a contemporary sound was key for the engineers. Therefore this two-way speaker is a bass reflex design with a front-firing flared port. It features a 6.5in domed drive unit for the midrange and for the high frequencies the twin magnet 0.87in silk dome tweeter which performs so successfully in the XLS11 and XLS15. As with the other Heritage models in the range, the XLS7 has the additional flexibility of a fine adjustment on the front of the speaker. This can tune the amplitude of mid and high frequencies by + or – 2dB to allow for variables

A TRUE MASTER OF AUDIO New from Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems is the Momentum MxV Integrated Amplifier, which the manufacturer claims achieves a level of performance, “never before possible in an integrated amplifier”. Combining the front-end technology from the Momentum HD Preamplifier and the power section of the Momentum S250 MxV Stereo Amplifier, it delivers Momentum Series performance in a compact framework only hinting at the advanced circuitry within. Employing a configurable, modular design, the core line stage section can be augmented to include a digital streaming and/or a phono stage module. Benefiting from extensive development previously applied to the Momentum Series separate components, the Momentum MxV Integrated Amplifier executes on the potential that an integrated solution offers. The Momentum MxV integrated Amplifier is a modular design that is configurable to a listener’s preferences. The core line stage preamplifier section can be augmented to include a digital streaming and/or a phono stage module. When fully equipped, the Momentum MxV Integrated Amplifier topology is a seamless circuit working as one from input to output. Each internal section is highly specialised but knowing the exact complement of power supply, control, and audio circuitry being used together, affords engineering a vision of the system that is typically not possible.

Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems products are distributed in the UK by Absolute Sounds.
The backbone is a new ultra-quiet 2,000VA linear transformer. Surprisingly small for its capability, this engine drives a nearly 60,000 iuiF capacitor bank resulting in 250/500/1,000W power output into 8/4/2Ω speaker loads. Internal circuitry filters RF noise from the AC powerline and compensates for asymmetric power waveforms and DC on the mains. The scope of the Momentum MxV Integrated Amplifier design requires the use of two separate chassis – a dedicated audio chassis and a separate power supply. The two chassis interlock through special mechanisms in the mounting feet of each chassis. An optional digital module adds connectivity for legacy sources, both source and host USB functionality, and premier streaming functionality.
