We are pleased to announce the launch of the first HDBaseT™3 matrix product to the market
Using HDBaseT™3 technology, these powerful HDBaseT™ matrix support uncompromised 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 resolutions over distances up to 100m over a CAT6A. The new HMX88-18G and HMX44-18G come into their own with advanced audio features specifically designed for maximising the integration of AV sources in the modern home. Enhanced audio routing is achieved through the integrated audio matrix. This enables the audio from displays (via HDMI ARC or Optical S/PDIF), and all other sources to be embedded and routed through the system at the users discretion. The inclusion of a 1Gb Ethernet channel allows for LAN serving to all HDBT outputs / zones as required, IR and RS-232 pass-through, advanced EDID management, and PoC provide the ultimate flexibility.
The combination of these technology features enable our installation partners the ability to create a truly immersive AV experience throughout the home.

AUTOMATED SPACES’ DEMO SPACES SHOWCASE SMART HOME ENHANCING INDEPENDENT LIVING
As part of the Government ‘Local Skills Improvement Fund’ initiative, Automated Spaces was recently awarded a contract to create a ‘first of its kind in the world’ demonstration space to showcase ‘the art of the possible’ with regards to independent living technologies in six separate further education colleges in Kent and Medway.
The project was split across three different college groups: East Kent Colleges Group (EKC
Group) (Broadstairs, Canterbury & Folkestone), MidKent College (Gillingham) and North Kent College (Dartford & Tonbridge).
The demonstration spaces incorporate Automated Spaces’ unique approach of combining smart home solutions and a connected care platform, to proactively assist people to live independently. They provide an immersive environment that allows students to learn increasingly critical skills in the healthcare
sector and visitors can be shown this new ‘Evolution of Independent Living Technologies’.
“It really is fantastic that we are going to be able to showcase our unique approach to providing independent living technology assistance to people across several use case scenarios. These demonstration spaces will provide a great platform for the next generation of healthcare professionals, as well as local stakeholders and business owners in the healthcare sector, to immerse themselves in solutions that can provide such positive outcomes,” said Alan Matthews, Managing Director of Automated Spaces.
The spaces have initially been created to highlight the positive outcomes that can be provided, across three specific scenarios: A person living at home with dementia; a residential care setting; and sheltered housing.
There are a wide array of independent living technology solutions included in the spaces; from a variety of manufacturers of home automation solutions to a connected care platform providing healthcare monitoring and insights.
“We are working with many great manufacturers and service providers, such as Control4 and AVERio, to provide a comprehensive portfolio of solutions,” said Alan.

KINLY LAUNCHES PUBLICLY AVAILABLE CANDIDATE CHARTER
Kinly, global provider of audio-visual integration and collaboration services, has announced its new publicly available Candidate Charter to ensure the consistency of its recruitment process across the entirety of its global operation.
As the first AV company to publish a public Candidate Charter, Kinly says it is setting a new standard for making the sector a more accessible, inclusive and attractive field for talent.
This commitment also establishes a benchmark for consistency, fairness and support in recruitment – helping to improve the candidate experience at every stage and addressing the industry’s talent shortage, as well as the global issue of anxiety around job interviews.
A recent research study shows that three quarters (72%) of people reported that job hunting has negatively impacted their mental health — showing a desperate need for companies to not only commit to improvements but to share that commitment publicly.
For example, nearly half (44%) of applicants experience frustration from employer ghosting. With the new charter, Kinly prioritises timely communication, ensuring candidates are communicated with throughout the entire process. The company will also share useful information and resources with prospects to help with their preparation before each interview, helping to reduce interview-induced fear experienced by 87% of job seekers.
To create a supportive experience, Kinly takes the time to understand prospects’ expectations for the new role and encourages them to express their thoughts freely throughout the interviews. Feedback from candidates on the process is also encouraged, demonstrating trust from the start – a quality sought by 43% of job seekers in an employer.
Ghost jobs (a position that doesn’t exist or is already filled), which a third (32%) of people cite as a major frustration, are also addressed. Kinly ensures all job descriptions
CEDIA LAUNCHES THE CEDIA FOUNDATION
CEDIA, the Association for Smart Home Professionals, has announced the launch of the CEDIA Foundation, a new 501(c)(3) organisation dedicated to nurturing the smart home workforce and shaping the future of the smart home industry.
“We are very lucky to work in a fast-paced industry that is constantly advancing with new technology and innovations,” said Daryl Friedman, CEDIA Global President and CEO. “But what drives the industry forward is the people and at CEDIA, we want to champion professional development and encourage new entrants. We believe that the CEDIA Foundation will help make education accessible to all, equipping individuals with the skills to excel. Together, we can build a stronger, more innovative smart home industry.”
CEDIA underlines that education is the cornerstone for ensuring that the industry continues to design and install systems to a high standard. To meet these goals, it’s vital that everyone has access to the training
and tools that will help them thrive in the workplace, says the organisation. The CEDIA Foundation will ensure that this education is universally accessible.
Through scholarships, career development opportunities and grants, the foundation will invest in and empower aspiring professionals. Contributions will directly fund education and
are clear and detailed, giving candidates an accurate understanding of the role and its responsibilities. This reassures applicants that the listings are genuine, and they will be fairly considered for the role.
Research by the CIPD also revealed more than half (52%) of neurodivergent employees don’t feel their organisation is open or supportive enough to discuss neurodiversity.

CREATING CINEMATIC MAGIC FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST
Together For Cinema’s latest projects have involved Dorset Children’s Foundation, ellenor House and Fresh Futures. The TFC team provides some details.
In an industry filled with cutting-edge technology and luxurious home entertainment experiences, it never stops being inspiring to witness professionals come together to give something back. Three recent projects, at Fresh Futures in Huddersfield, ellenor House in Gravesend, Kent, and the Dorset Children’s Foundation perfectly exemplify how the combined generosity and expertise of the custom installation industry can create spaces of comfort, joy and inspiration for those who need it most.
DORSET CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION
The Dorset Children’s Foundation (DCF) is located in Boscombe, just outside of Bournemouth, in Dorset. It was set up to improve and enrich the lives of children with disabilities and their families who are experiencing difficulties related to the impact of disability, including physical health, emotional strain and social isolation through a range of provisions. Back in 2021 TFC was approached
and we started to work together. The original installation was completed in 2022 and was extremely popular, but it was not permanent. In May 2024 the time was right and with a second location in the Sovereign Shopping Mall becoming available, a plan was put in place for a more long-term cinema room.
The room is packed full of products donated by our amazing partners and installed by Luke and Wayne Crutcher, the Directors of Living Home Technology. At the opening reception, held in December, Chris Billam-Smith, a former
WBO cruiserweight boxing world champion and loyal supporter of DCF, kindly gave up his time to chat with many of the attendees. The facility will bring so much joy to everyone who uses it, including staff and volunteers, as Adrienne Coles, Head of Marketing, Dorset Children’s Foundation explains.
“The cinema is incredible and it really makes the space so very special and it sounds fantastic,” Adrienne says. “It will be in constant use because it is such a special space, allowing us to engage with our teenage children both for films and big screen gaming.
“For our most profoundly disabled children it creates a beautiful sensory space where we can screen soft sensory images and music. Also a great benefit for our wellness services for both parents/carers and children. Our volunteers are very special to us and we have dedicated Thursday for film nights as a thank you to them. The possibilities are endless and we are all so very grateful.”
ELLENOR HOUSE: A DEDICATED AV HAVEN FOR HOLISTIC CARE
The relationship between TFC and ellenor, a hospice and wellbeing centre dedicated to supporting adults and children with life-limiting illnesses in North Kent and Bexley, has been established for over a decade. In 2013, TFC contributed a small installation to ellenor’s Dartford site, but the larger Gravesend facility didn’t yet have a suitable space. Over time, ellenor began a comprehensive build and refurbishment project, one that would ultimately provide a dedicated AV and cinema-style media room.
From early planning meetings in 2022 to on-site visits throughout 2023 and 2024, TFC worked closely with the ellenor team and installer Iain Martin of iCubed Home Cinema. The vision was to create an immersive space that would serve multiple functions: screening movies, hosting gaming sessions, karaoke parties, training presentations and fundraising events. Importantly, this new room needed a large screen solution rather than a projectorbased system—a more challenging request but one that the team was determined to meet.
TFC tapped into its extensive network of donors and supporters once again. With careful coordination, components began to flow in, including a generous 98in NEC monitor from Vissavi and top-tier audio equipment from Artcoustic, Gallo Acoustics, Denon and other industry stalwarts. Future Automation, Nice (Elan), Cinema Build Systems, Rako, Starscape, Sony, HDA, Webro and more all played pivotal roles in delivering the infrastructure, lighting, control, and content capabilities needed to bring the space to life. By late October 2024, the installation was complete.
Sue Piper, Director of Income Generation, Ellenor Children’s Hospice, says, “Thanks to the incredible generosity and expertise of TFC and iCubed Home Cinema, this space has come to life. It’s a warm, welcoming environment where families can create precious memories and staff can relax.”
FRESH FUTURES: A SPACE FOR COMMUNITY AND OPPORTUNITY
Fresh Futures is a regional charity in Kirklees, with a mission to support disadvantaged children, young people and their families.
Originally known as the Yorkshire Children’s Centre, the organisation recently rebranded to reflect the diversified set of services that is now offered. Fresh Futures encompasses educational, health and wellbeing, employability and community relationship support. As Fresh Futures approached its 50th anniversary in 2024, the centre sought a unique, uplifting way to mark the milestone and enhance its ability to serve their community.
In October 2023, TFC began exploring the charity’s expansive premises near Huddersfield’s train station, searching for an ideal location for a cinema room. The building, originally an old railway hangar, had large open spaces and several rooms on upper floors. After some deliberation, a versatile room that could be divided into two smaller spaces was chosen. This flexible layout would cater to a variety of uses including family film afternoons, presentations, sporting event screenings and even including sessions for the more than 20 community groups that regularly use the facility.
With the help of CEDIA’s Matt Nimmons and Steve Carter, TFC connected with Richard Chadwick of Audiovation, a local AV specialist, well-placed to project manage the installation. Together, they faced the challenge of equipping the large, acoustically challenging space with top-quality audio and video. Calls to supportive industry partners soon followed. Epson, Sony, Bowers & Wilkins, Crestron, Peerless, Snap One and AWE Europe all contributed equipment, from high-performance speakers and subwoofers to a top-notch projector, control solutions and a large screen.

JBL CINEMA SOUND SO EASY TO ENJOY
Stylish, intuitive, scalable and attainable, JBL’s Modern Audio (MA) Series of AVRs delivers class-leading performance and lifestyle ease of use to a wide range of projects, says CUK MD Stuart Thomson.
In the early 2000s CEDIA ran an ad campaign in the high-end retail media. Featuring cosy home settings, it pitched the promise of ‘making the most entertaining and useful home-electronic systems feel like part of the family’. Over two decades on, that pledge to make advanced AV technology easy to live with and enjoy remains the key value proposition from CI to its customers. Which is why JBL’s new MA Series of stylish, user-friendly, high-performance AVRs will be a natural choice for so many applications.
SCALABLE HIGH PERFORMANCE THAT COMES WITH THE NAME
Developed by JBL engineers at Northridge, California, the feature-rich MA Series spans a range of competitive price points (£499, £699, £999, £1,399 and £1,899 Inc VAT). All five AVRs from the MA310, MA510 and MA710 to the line topping MA7100 and MA9100 are equipped with Class D amplification, Dolby Atmos and DTS decoding (including DTS:X), high resolution 192kHz 24-bit DACs, a generous choice of input sources, ARC and Bluetooth smartphone pairing, all complemented by rising power capabilities and channel counts from 5.2 to 9.2 as you move up the range. Above the entry model, the lineup offers 8K video processing and connectivity (HDMI 2.1), HDR10+ and Wi-Fi for network streaming via the likes of Apple AirPlay, Chromecast and Spotify. In addition, the 7100 and 9100 models are DIRAC Live ready and are compatible with all major automation systems.
Engineered by JBL at Northridge, California, the new MA Series AVRs combine great sound with the most intuitive control
Given JBL’s reputation for pioneering innovation and superior sound quality since the earliest days of cinema sound, the technical development of such a highperformance product family was never going to be a challenge for the engineering team, but this wasn’t enough for the first range of fully featured AVRs to carry the JBL badge. They had to be easy to enjoy.
JBL SOUND MEETS LIFESTYLE DESIGN
JBL has deployed the marketing nous behind its globally successful smart speaker ranges to deliver new levels of lifestyle convenience to the AVR market. Working with focus groups involving thousands of end-users, a vast team of industrial/UI designers has fine-tuned design aesthetics and operational simplicity. Reflecting new user priorities, the traditionally intimidating array of menus, front panel and remote buttons is replaced by the sparsest, most ergonomically efficient and logical control layouts, mirrored on all models and designed make access to all the features as intuitive as possible. The streamlined MA Series gives your customers the controls that they need, at their fingertips, when they need them.
Set-up is as simple. Using the free-of-charge EZ Set EQ mobile app for iOS and Android, users can calibrate the system to match their space in minutes.
NEW WAYS WITH COLOUR
And when modern décor is invariably neutral and accessories like games consoles are often white, it’s no surprise that JBL’s research revealed a customer preference for a lighter/darker colour choice. Hence the slimline MA Series is available in both white (latte) and black (expresso).
EASY ACCESS TO CLASS-LEADING AUDIO
Leaping straight from the CI playbook, the new JBL MA Series AVRs deliver high performance with the freedom of simplified operation, all wrapped up in gorgeous aesthetic and ergonomic design. To borrow another line from that original CEDIA ad, they will indeed supply ‘the best that home technology has to offer –and make it easy to use’.

Sonos has updated its best-selling Arc soundbar with more channels, more drivers, more amplifiers, and full Dolby Atmos sound. Sprinkle in updated touch controls, Bluetooth 5.3 and Trueplay room tuning, and it comes as something of a pleasant surprise the Arc Ultra has a retail ticket in three figures, just.
The fourth generation of Sonos’ subwoofer, the Sub 4, is a natural partner. For customers wanting a true surround experience with those Dolby soundtracks, a couple of Era 300 speakers at the rear would make a formidable AV sound system for under two and a half grand in total.
Neither the Arc Ultra nor Sub 4 have changed radically in industrial design from previous generations and that is no bad thing. The build is exemplary, the aesthetic is subtle
in black or white and the Arc offers desktop or wall-mount placement. With an array of upwardfiring drivers to ‘bounce’ deliver spatial audio and Atmos height information, you need to give this soundbar a little space under the screen. The curvy design makes that look deliberate, but you can’t snug the Ultra up tight to a big screen to keep the in-room look super-clean.
The Arc Ultra builds on the success of its predecessor, more with a suite of upgrades on the inside designed to deliver an even more immersive and precise soundscape. Under the metal wrap-around grille is an array of 14 custom drivers, including two up-firing and a raft of updated DSP tech, including a dynamic bass equalisation system. This twiddles the LF depending on content and room acoustics (as measured by the built-in Trueplay EQ) to deliver
as much bass clout from the bar as possible without falling into distortion.
Sonos Voice Control has been further refined in this generation as well as providing slick integration with Alexa and Google Assistant. All three benefit from improved mic sensitivity and better ambient noise suppression. Getting your voice heard over the Arc Ultra/Sub 4 delivering over 100dB of movie chaos, remains a challenge.
As ever with Sonos, connectivity is blissfully simple: one Fig-8 power input (complete with Sonos’ gorgeously custom-moulded Figure-8 power lead), one RJ45 should you not want to go with the Wi-Fi 6, and an HDMI port for eARC. That’s it. No optical, no analogue and no second HDMI inputs to use the Arc Ultra as a hub.
Limiting? Nope. Connecting additional speakers like the Sub 4 or Era models is blissfully simple, the Trueplay EQ uses the mic in your phone, and the control is linked to the TV volume or the app. Oh, and there are some funky new touch controls on top of the Arc Ultra – although touch controls on a soundbar have never made any sense to me. Maybe it’s just my arms that are too short to reach from the sofa.
The sub is simpler still. Power lead and a button press. Job done. Connect to the Sonos app, assign it to the room or speaker you want it to support and it’s up and running. The unique force-cancelling design with drivers facing inward to its giant polo-like hole in the middle, is remarkably clever as it allows placement almost anywhere. Upright in free space and the output emerges from both sides. Yet as we have found by experimentation over the years, the design can be just as easily placed one side up against a wall or laid flat under a sofa with minimal impact on overall performance.
The placement and set-up of the Ultra/Sub4 system is stupendously easy. The Sonos app, despite some nay-sayers, is incredibly slick and the whole process of registering the Arc Ultra in your Sonos ecosystems and connecting to Wi-Fi is class-leading. A few strange beeps from the soundbar, it registers on the app, grabs the Wi-Fi SSID and password and sets itself ready to rock. It then asks if you want to run Trueplay.
Adding the sub threw up an unknown device issue, which later transpired to be down to having several Sonos apps running on different devices on the network at the same time. Yet Sonos’ workaround to this is inspired… NFC. Touch the control device to the Sub 4, and 10 seconds later it is registered, connected and asking which Sonos speaker you would like it to support. Along with the superb front end of the app, it’s all so slick and just works. Love or hate Sonos, this is genius-level usability will ensure you don’t get callbacks for simple finger trouble.
EASE OF SET UP
The Sonos ecosystem remains one of the most installer-friendly on the market, not least because of the modular product integration and cast-iron robustness to reduce callbacks and issues. A Sonos Amp has been running in my kitchen for five years, and I have never needed to touch it. I run ‘other’ multiroom systems in the house that need kicking or rebooting often weekly. Over a couple of weeks of testing, the Arc Ultra and Sub 4 were up and running and connected faultlessly.
New abilities and functionalities are included on these new versions
Sonically, the Arc Ultra and Sub 4 are simply class-leading for the price. With or without Trueplay, the sound is crisp, refined, powerful and engaging with the widest range of material. From delivering exceptionally articulate and intelligible dialogue on TV content, to smashing out blockbuster movie effects with the Sub 4 shaking the sofa, the sound is balanced and superspacious. It’s not going to replace a discrete 9.1.4 system for object-based audio steering any time soon, but it makes a damn fine attempt at replicating the effect.
Switch to music and the performance is equally compelling. There is great space in the stereo images, a richness that few soundbars manage to convey and solid, punchy bass from the Sub 4. Moreover, unlike plenty of soundbars on the market, you don’t hear a single rattle, shake, click or hum that isn’t on the material it’s playing.
The Arc Ultra and Sub 4 represent a meaningful evolution of Sonos’ technology, address feedback from prior models and add handy features and forward-thinking tech like Wi-Fi 6 and BT 5.3. They may not rewrite the rules of soundbar systems entirely, but they undoubtedly push the boundaries of performance and do so in a seamless, robust and straightforward way. They make for a good general case study of how to make complex technology brilliantly simple to install and use.
Which brings us neatly to the elephant in the room. The installer’s issue with this well-polished pairing is that they are so simple to install and use – and readily available through traditional retail channels. Adding value to the Arc Ultra and Sub 4 pairing is, frankly, tricky. Wall mounting the bar, hiding power cables, and customising the look of the app is about it, suggesting this pairing needs to be an add-on to a larger project rather than the project itself.
Either way, exceptional features, simplicity, futureproofing, robust networking and outstanding performance make the Arc Ultra and Sub 4 a super compelling addition to an installer AV armoury.
Can this Sonos pairing handle different types of content?

CLASSIC DESIGN MEETS TECH INNOVATION AT CHELSEA TOWNHOUSE
Control4
and other Snap One brands deployed in Grade II listed building to ensure comfort, style and seamless integration.
Renovating a property is always a challenge, but when that property is Grade II listed and the homeowner wants to maintain a traditional aesthetic while ensuring the space is fit for modern living, the task is even greater.
This was the case in a recent project for home technology specialists JPAV in which the owners of a Georgian townhouse in fashionable Chelsea undertook a sympathetic renovation that also includes a whole host of discreet technology from Snap One. JPAV worked closely with the client and the two interior design studios responsible for the project, Steph Hill Designs and Devereux Designs, to make sure that the smart home system afforded all the lifestyle benefits demands by the client, as well as meeting the aesthetic challenges of the project.
James Shorter of JPAV explains, “The owners knew they wanted home automation technology, but they didn’t want to see it. They were keen to keep the style as classic as possible and there were listed areas that made it quite difficult to do certain things. We had to think outside the box in a number of areas and both we and the homeowners are delighted with the result.”
While discrete technology was a must, ease of use was also high on the priority list and as the client was familiar with the Control4 platform, it was an easy decision to turn to the
Snap One brand once again for a reliable and intuitive experience.
James adds, “Control4 handles pretty much everything in the house, integrating audio, lighting, TVs, heating and security control onto one seamless platform. The family love the benefit of being able to control things anywhere. If they forget to do something, they can just log in to their phone, turn the heating on when they arrive at a destination, adjust the lighting schedules or whatever. They also love that they can have multiple properties all on one Control4 app, so they don’t have to use different apps for different properties and technologies.”
Control4’s CA-10 automation controller is at the heart of the Chelsea townhouse system, offering reliability, flexibility and builtin OvrC remote management for enhanced troubleshooting. The Core 5, meanwhile, manages the wide range of devices throughout the property, creating personalised automated experiences for the family. This includes a vacation mode which mimics the family being at home when they’re travelling. Alongside the app, Control4’s Halo remote and T4 touchscreens are proving the ideal interface for the client, offering simple, customisable control and sleek, unobtrusive designs.
“The family love the new Halo remotes,” James adds. “They also have wall-mounted touch panels at key locations on every floor with flush housing, so they look amazing.”
BEAUTIFUL MUSIC
Keen to have a premium quality audio system throughout the house, the client was also clear that they wanted to minimise impact on the interior design and retain the clean aesthetic of the property. This led to the decision to install invisible speakers along with architectural in-ceiling speakers from Snap One brand, Triad, in the guest rooms. Additional Triad outdoor speakers are located on the roof terrace to provide the perfect ambience for
enjoying the fresh air and social gatherings. Triad 16x16 AMS v2 audio matrix switches and Triad PAMP4-125v2 amps ensure high-resolution audio can be experienced throughout the home.
Security was also a consideration with this project and a Luma X20 CCTV system from Snap One, the first Luma product line to include full OvrC integration, is in operation. AI-powered human and vehicle detection, automatic video stream configuration in Control4, and enhanced camera views ensure peace of mind for the homeowner. Meanwhile a Control4 DS2 door station offers video monitoring, motion detection and HD video, while ensuring easy access for expected visitors.
Also central to the installation is Snap One’s WattBox power management, with WattBox PDUs controlling and monitoring the system, something James says is ‘superb’, especially when combined with OvrC. James continues, “Opening OvrC and being able to reboot boxes is great. Allowing us to remotely reboot devices is a godsend. We end up putting WattBox in pretty much every project, it’s just a varying amount of whether it’s everything or just the core devices.”
That theme of centralised management continues with the addition of Araknis Wi-Fi 6 access points, bringing higher network capacity and enhanced reliability to the project. The high speeds of Wi-Fi 6 combined with OvrC Wi-Fi management is again bringing great benefits to the homeowner and the integrator.
“OvrC and its integration with Control4, WattBox, Araknis and other Snap One brands is an absolute game-changer. It makes life so much easier for us and our client. We love it.” adds James.

HELPING CUSTOMERS MAKE THE MOST OF FRICTIONLESS ACCESS CONTROL
Alex Rumsey, Sales Director at security specialist TDSi, examines the concept of ‘Frictionless Access Control’.
The concept of ‘Frictionless Access Control’ isn’t new, but in our fast-changing and unpredictable world, the need for adaptable security systems that minimise user inconvenience has become even more important. The challenge lies in maintaining highly effective security while at the same time making life easier for authorised security users.
There is a lot of talk about Frictionless Access Control, but what does it actually mean and what are the advantages for your customers?
WHAT IS FRICTIONLESS ACCESS CONTROL?
In a nutshell, Frictionless Access Control encompasses technologies and systems with the aim of providing secure access to physical spaces (like buildings, offices, or restricted areas) with minimal inconvenience to authorised individuals. The overall objective is quite straightforward - to streamline and simplify access procedures while ensuring an appropriately high level of security.
THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND FRICTIONLESS ACCESS CONTROL
The evolution of Frictionless Access Control has been driven by major advancements in access control technologies over the past decade. These include familiar technologies such as biometrics (including fingerprint and facial recognition), contactless card systems (such as RFID or NFC), and smartphone-based credentials (like Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) for short-range communications. These innovations aim to eliminate the friction associated with traditional methods like keys or PINs.
The success of Frictionless Access Control hinges on effective implementation, involving close integration of hardware and software, user training, and robust security protocols to ensure seamless and secure access.
We have seen sector-driven demands become an important element in driving the
market for Frictionless Access Control. For example, the Proptech (property technology) sector uses technology to optimise the way people buy, sell, research, market and manage a property. This includes looking for ways to deliver a better user experience by improving how people interact with the built environment, so effortless access control technology is very well placed to help with this.
ENSURING THE RIGHT SOLUTIONS FOR THE RIGHT CUSTOMERS
When speaking to customers about the possibilities of Frictionless Access Control, the key is helping them understand the balance of security and convenience. For example, achieving the higher levels of security required by some businesses often requires additional authentication steps or slower access processes, which can actually introduce friction.

• Power and individually control the 16 ballasts, which can be grouped into 16 DALI groups or controlled individually. All this without the need for external power!
At Zennio, we provide you with the most innovative automation solutions.
This balance depends on the type of security deployment and the value or vulnerability of the people and property it protects. For instance, Frictionless Access Control can be effective in corporate environments where users are familiar with the technology and access points are well-maintained. However, it may face challenges in more complex or high-security settings, such as financial institutions, military installations, or sites with vulnerable people like schools and colleges.
POTENTIAL ISSUES
The obvious potential pitfall to avoid is implementing a frictionless approach that could compromise security. For example, biometric technologies used in Frictionless Access Control can raise concerns about privacy and data security (there are of course many ethical debates over the collection and storage of such personal data). Ensuring that user data is protected and used responsibly is critical
and will always need to take precedence over user convenience.
Cost is another crucial factor. Implementing Frictionless Access Control systems can be more costly, especially when using advanced biometric or contactless technologies. It’s important to help customers balance the expense with the benefits and their budget. Employee convenience may not always be the top priority for customers, so understanding their overall goals is vital.
DELIVERING FRICTIONLESS ACCESS CONTROL
For many customers, Frictionless Access Control is a realistic option and can transform the way they interact with their Access Control systems. The rapid development and integration of advanced technologies such as Facial Recognition and Smart or Mobile credentials, with traditional access methods, are evolving into seamless, touchless experiences.
While these advanced technologies often provide higher security compared to traditional card or fob-based credentials, the effectiveness of true frictionless access heavily relies on the technology’s speed and accuracy. Historically, these factors have sometimes posed challenges to widespread adoption.
Any customer contemplating the implementation of Frictionless Access Control needs professional guidance. By delivering this we can help to accurately assess the specific needs, potential risks and the necessary resources for adopting these systems. Equally, security providers play an essential role in ensuring that the deployment and management of these systems maintains a careful balance between robust security measures and an optimal user experience. Ensuring customers get the right advice is critical to the successful integration and operation of Frictionless Access Control technologies.
The new generation of security concepts replacing keys and keypads need to be reliable and cost effective
CELEBRATING INNOVATION: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CEDIA AWARDS
Zak Vracevic, Director at CEDIA Member company, M.E.G.A. AV Installations, looks back at his company’s success at the most recent CEDIA Awards.
My journey into AV integration is a story of passion evolving into purpose. In 1981, I began experimenting with synthesisers and delving into music production, which led to recording in studios across Belgrade, in the former Yugoslavia. Moving to the UK in 1986, I embraced a career remixing tracks for legendary artists such as Bob Marley, Donna Summer, Gloria Estefan and M People. By the mid-2000s, my focus shifted toward AV systems, drawn by the challenge of merging technology with design. It was during this transition that I discovered CEDIA, whose commitment to professionalism and innovation mirrored my own aspirations. Becoming a member was the next logical step to deepen my knowledge and connections in the smart home industry.
Today, as Owner and Director of M.E.G.A. AV Installations, I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact of being a CEDIA member. The organisation provides a vital framework for excellence and drives the standards within our industry. Its resources, networking opportunities, and professional development tools have been invaluable to our growth. But perhaps the most significant way CEDIA
supports our work is through its CEDIA Smart Home Awards. We have now won a total of seven awards, representing our dedication to pushing boundaries and delivering remarkable results.
We are immensely proud to have taken home three awards for our Joy Division Room at the 2024 CEDIA Smart Home Awards.
The project is a multi-functional media room with challenging dimensions, extensive glass features and complex integration requirements. The room earned us the titles of ‘Technology Meets Design,’ ‘Best Media Room Level II,’ and the coveted ‘Global Media Room’ award. The global win, in particular, is a monumental accolade. It is incredibly honouring, and it can only help in the future - I have noticed that potential clients pay more attention now to what we say and suggest.
These awards are vital for our industry and drive innovation, inspiring integrators to explore new possibilities and elevate their craft. Each year, the competition sets a higher standard, showcasing what is possible when technology and creativity come together. For us, earning these awards has highlighted our growth and
solidified our position in the field. As well as the recognition from the industry, it’s also given us the ability to show clients and architects that attention to detail, and time spent on it, pays off. It shows that the whole, sometimes lengthy, process of working through every detail makes sense at the end when everything just comes together.
For those considering entering the CEDIA Smart Home Awards, my advice would be to approach the process with care and creativity. Take the time to prepare thorough documentation and present your work in a way that highlights its unique qualities. The effort is worthwhile, as it not only showcases your achievements, but also reinforces your commitment to delivering the best possible outcomes for your clients.
Being a CEDIA member and celebrating its awards programme achieves a sense of community that values innovation and quality in the field. These awards honour the best in our industry, providing a platform to learn from each other and explore what’s possible.

FIVE NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION IDEAS FOR 2025
Jason
Knott, EI’s resident number cruncher, ex CE-Pro Editor and data solutions architect evangelist at D-Tools,
takes a look at the year ahead and makes some suggestions for improvement.
It’s time to make your New Year’s Resolutions for 2025! What are your personal and professional goals and more importantly, have you written them down? According to neuroscience, the act of physically writing down your goals makes you much more likely to act upon those goals. Writing down goals removes them from your subconscious -- where they are more likely to be bogged down with confusion, deliberation and over analysis – and makes them more vivid and tangible. Consider breaking down your annual goals for 2025 into quarterly, monthly, weekly or even daily goals. Doing this helps you focus on achieving those objectives.
According to Forbes, the top five personal New Year’s Resolutions are:
1. Better physical fitness
2. Improved finances
3. Better mental health
4. Losing weight
5. Higher quality diet
I am guessing that list sounds familiar to all of us. It certainly does for me. Indeed, it could apply to me personally just about every year.
What about your business New Year’s Resolutions for 2025? Among the more common New Year’s Resolutions for small businesses over the past several years are:
1. Build a better online presence, reviewing your website SEO, online reviews, social media, etc.
2. Create a solid ‘caregiving plan’ for your employees, such as flexible work schedules, cross-training and even parttime opportunities.
3. Obtain the proper certifications, whether it be with CEDIA or specific manufacturers.
4. Investigate government contract opportunities, which would apply to integrators that are moving outside of purely residential work.
5. Join a small business group, which includes CEDIA or other business networking organisations.
Here are some other ideas for 2025 New Year’s Resolutions for your integration business. Write them down and see what happens.
INVESTIGATE RECURRING REVENUE OPPORTUNITIES
Consumers’ appetites to pay recurring monthly fees have changed. It is commonplace today. They pay for a slew of entertainment options. Integrators’ ability to offer a service agreement to their clients has never been more amenable. If your business model is purely project-based on installation revenues, you are
missing an opportunity. Today’s remote service management solutions can enable even small integration companies to provide ongoing service for their clients and earn valuable recurring revenue. One important element to note: Make sure you have a solid contract in place for your service business.
EXAMINE YOUR INSURANCE COVERAGE
Insurance coverage is something that should be looked at every year. Working with your agent, it’s advisable to at minimum check on the need for various insurance riders that can be customised to fit your business. Look over your insurance for Errors & Omissions and vehicles, but also discuss whether you need insurance for business interruption, cybersecurity, sexual harassment claims and other uncommon situations. At the same time, make sure you are covered for the proper amounts.
PLAN YOUR EXIT STRATEGY
Most integration companies don’t think about their exit strategy until just before the time comes. By planning well ahead. … years or even decades… it can increase the value of your business while at the same time help you line up the succession plan, whether that be among employees or family.
PAY DOWN DEBT
This is a no-brainer. Your company needs to exist within its means, just like you do for your own personal finances.
REVIEW YOUR SUPPLIERS
The pandemic and the supply chain crisis aftermath either solidified your loyalty to certain suppliers or killed it. Whatever your experience was, it is always a good idea to review your suppliers every year. Are you getting the best deal from them? Are they responsive to your requests? Are you getting the product in a timely manner? Those are just some of the questions you should ask. If you pay your bills on time, you have every right to be demanding of them.
A CLEAR WINNER!
From muffled to crystal clear: how machine learning will bring clarity to dialogue on TV. Martin Walsh, VP of Audio Research and Development at DTS, part of Xperi, explains.
Home entertainment technology has come on leaps and bounds in recent years. Content can now be watched in 4K HDR on 100in screens that are thinner than a pencil. And audio is broadcast or streamed in high-fidelity, multichannel and object-based surround sound.
However, despite huge technological advances, more people than ever are having difficulty understanding dialogue on TV. In fact, our research at Xperi found that 84% of consumers have experienced trouble understanding dialogue during TV shows and movies. Over three-quarters (77%) say they use captions/subtitles and about one in three (30%) report they are always or often turned on.
Frustrations include experiencing a crescendo of loud music and booming sound effects – forcing viewers to reach for the remote to lower the volume during intense scenes – only to turn up the sound again once dialogue resumes. While others find crucial conversations are drowned out by overlapping music and sound effects, leaving them straining to catch every word. Plus, hearing capabilities vary for every individual, so a lack of opportunity for personalisation is a real annoyance.
Adding to the issue, today’s homes often reverberate noise and have varying local noise
pollution from appliances such as refrigerators, dishwashers, and fans, as well as the likes of noisy neighbours and housemates. As a result, environmental sounds can mask meaningful dialogue, especially if that dialogue is reproduced at lower levels, like whispers.
Until recently, subtitles have been the only consistent way to help solve problems of dialogue intelligibility, but this is changing. DTS has spent more than five years developing a device-side solution with the ability to transform home audio experiences by making dialogue clearer and easier to understand.
CURRENT APPROACHES AND LIMITATIONS IN ENHANCING DIALOGUE CLARITY
When playing a film or TV show, devices like TVs, speakers and headphones often rely on dynamic range compression algorithms to manage loudness by automatically lowering volume when sounds become too loud. While this can be effective, it sometimes causes unwanted effects, like a distracting ‘pumping’ sound, if not carefully fine-tuned to the audio’s dynamics. Some TVs also offer ‘dialogue
enhancement’ modes that boost speech frequencies, typically ranging from 125Hz to 500Hz, and often illustrated in a ‘speech banana’ plot that uses speech equalisation filters to enhance speech clarity by boosting dominant frequencies and compensating for age-related hearing loss.
For a lot of viewers, speech equalisation filters can be a lifesaver, by amplifying key frequencies to make spoken words easier to hear. However, this approach isn’t without its drawbacks. Boosting these frequencies can distort other sounds, leaving the overall soundtrack unbalanced. It’s especially frustrating when music or sound effects clash with dialogue on the same frequencies, making it difficult to hear what’s being said, no matter how much the volume is increased.
Some streaming giants are exploring specialised audio mixes to address this issue— emphasising dialogue for select content. But there’s a catch with alternative mixes: they can’t adjust simply to consumers’ unique listening environment and needs. Customising soundtracks for each listener would require separating and distributing individual dialogue, music, and effects tracks – a complex task due to storage, distribution and copyright challenges.
MACHINE LEARNING AS A SOLUTION
This is where machine learning offers a promising solution. Unlike traditional Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms, machine learning models can identify and ‘unmix’ audio patterns. With training on clean tracks, these models can separate audio into dialogue, music, and effects (DME). Training models to
handle every possible soundtrack and its DME components can be highly challenging due to limited data availability, copyright issues and other constraints. But this technology provides a real opportunity to tackle some of the biggest frustrations faced with at-home audio clarity. Which brings us neatly to the development of DTS Clear Dialogue. DTS unveiled this innovative solution – which leverages advanced machine learning – to bring speech to the
forefront of any content, from TV shows and movies to user-generated media. By combining traditional DSP methods – which softens loud effects and amplifies quiet dialogue – with machine learning, Clear Dialogue can isolate and process speech independently – regardless of the input source or language. Not only does this preserve the directors’ original intent, but it also allows users to tailor their listening experience using presets, sliders and even dedicated remote controls.
We use optimised machine learning to train this network by using a diverse range of data sets, along with synthetic audio samples sourced from libraries that reflect typical soundtrack elements. This method allows the network to learn from a wide variety of audio scenarios while avoiding potential copyright issues. Once trained, the model was put through rigorous testing with real-world content, helping to identify and resolve any performance gaps.
This sets a new standard for home audio experiences, reducing the cognitive strain viewers face when struggling to hear dialogue. This is particularly beneficial for neurodiverse individuals and those with hearing impairments. And as models are continuously refined, we can look forward to expanding the role of machine learning in audio processing, so that we’re able to address the all-to-familiar frustration of asking, ‘What did they just say?’
REVOLUTIONISING HOME ENTERTAINMENT: THE EVOLUTION OF MOTORIZED TV LIFTS
From ceilings to cabinetry, innovative motorised lifts are transforming spaces with sleek designs, seamless integration and unparalleled performance for immersive home entertainment. Cory Lovett, Nexus 21 CEO, explains.
High-performance displays are increasingly finding their way out of single, purpose-built entertainment spaces and into other areas of the home. Bedrooms, dens, rec rooms and outdoor environments are transforming into immersive entertainment zones, with large, state-of-the-art displays serving as the visual focal point. For some homeowners, placing the
display as the room’s centrepiece is perfectly acceptable. However, this preference is shifting as systems integrators, designers and their clients explore subtler placement options that maintain the entertainment experience without dominating the room’s aesthetic.
Motorised lifts that lower a display from above the ceiling have long been the go-to
solution for blending technology with design. This approach offers a sleek, space-saving tactic that appeals to many homeowners. However, with the growing popularity of flat- and low-pitch roof construction, ceiling plenum space is often limited or nonexistent. Even in homes with sufficient ceiling access, challenges such as ductwork, wiring and insulation can obstruct the installation. As a result, systems integrators and designers must seek alternative solutions to create immersive entertainment environments in ancillary spaces.
In response to shifting demand and rising consumer expectations, manufacturers in 2025 are refining, evolving and diversifying their AV solutions. This includes innovative motorised lifts designed for large, high-performance displays. Options now include lifts that integrate displays seamlessly into floor-standing cabinetry, hide them behind custom wall soffits, or incorporate automated swivels and sturdier supports for larger screens. These advancements simplify installation, preserve room aesthetics and ensure optimal performance and enjoyment.
As these solutions evolve, consider the latest motorised TV lift styles to transform any space into an unobtrusive yet immersive entertainment haven:
WALL-MOUNTED LIFTS
Attached to the surface of a wall, this solution affords more flexible placement. Any wall surface unadorned by windows or other architectural features, and with available wall studs for support, can serve as an unassuming spot for a motion-activated display. There’s no need to relocate large pieces of artwork either. Because the motor is designed to extend the display downward, it works best in rooms with tall ceilings, mounted high up—out of direct eyesight—on the wall. Covered by a custom soffit to match or complement the room design, the motorised lift and display remain hidden until commanded to lower into its prime, preset viewing spot.
POP-UP LIFTS
While TVs are becoming slimmer and lighter, making overhead installations increasingly feasible, there remain many situations where a heavy-duty lift is essential to support heavier models. Outdoor entertainment areas serve as a prime example. With no walls or ceilings available, displays that pop up from within a floor-standing cabinet offer an ideal solution for this increasingly popular entertainment space. It’s important to consider that these applications require lifts with sufficient torque to move not only the TV but also the heavy cabinet tops and integrated TV/soundbar combinations.
Pop-up lifts are equally effective in other spaces where architecture or design constraints prevent ceiling- or wall-mounted lift installations.
FLIP-DOWN LIFTS
For ultimate dual-action performance, flip-down lifts combine horizontal and vertical movement. These innovative lifts secure the display just above the ceiling when not in use, rendering it invisible. Upon activation, the mechanism flips the display from its horizontal position within the ceiling to a vertical position and then lowers it to the optimal viewing height. Flip-down lifts are particularly suited for rooms with limited wall space and insufficient above-ceiling access, providing a versatile and space-saving solution for modern entertainment setups in spaces like master bedrooms, dens and home gyms.
TECHNOLOGICAL ENHANCEMENTS
The mechanical movement of a display is just one facet of motorised TV lifts. Technology now plays a critical role in ensuring proper positioning, seamless control, and smooth integration, with manufacturers continuously pushing the boundaries to enhance functionality.
• Dual-action lifts have revolutionised the market, enabling displays to descend and swivel effortlessly for multiple
viewing angles—ideal for versatile, multipurpose spaces.
• Flexible control options are another major advancement, offering integrators and endusers the freedom to choose between IR, IP, or contact closure interfaces, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of systems.
• Safety remains a top priority in both residential and commercial installations. The inclusion of highly sensitive accelerometer and gyroscope technologies ensures ultra-responsive collision detection and precise stopping capabilities, providing peace of mind.
• Manufacturers are also addressing installation challenges by integrating cable management systems and preassembling mounts—partially or entirely—before delivery. These innovations streamline the process for integrators, reducing time and effort while minimising disruptions for customers.
• Easy on-board adjustments simplify alignment, allowing integrators to quickly compensate for uneven or unlevel surfaces, ensuring a flawless installation. Additionally, the growing use of QR codes on lifting mechanisms provides instant access to instructional videos and resources, enabling integrators to troubleshoot or refine installations without interrupting workflow.
REDEFINING BIG-SCREEN ENTERTAINMENT
The evolution of motorised TV lifts is redefining how technology and design harmonise in modern homes. These innovations cater to the growing demand for immersive entertainment experiences without compromising aesthetics, offering flexible solutions for diverse spaces. Whether it’s a sleek flip-down lift for limited wall space, a robust pop-up mechanism for outdoor settings, or a wall-mounted solution that blends seamlessly with the décor, today’s motorised lifts are engineered for versatility, performance, and ease of integration.

BIGGER IS BETTER!
In the ever-evolving world of home entertainment, large-screen TVs have become a staple in luxury AV systems. From groundbreaking display technology to seamless design integration, these massive screens are at the forefront of creating immersive AV experiences in modern smart homes. Bary Sheldrick, Director of Sales at distributor DbM, shares his thoughts.
What is considered a large-screen TV continues to change. What used to be a large TV was a 65in, and now it is a three or four meter screen. This trend reflects the growing demand for larger displays that offer superior image quality and immersive viewing experiences.
Interestingly, consumer awareness and demand for large-screen TVs are on the rise. Clients are increasingly asking for these massive displays, driven by their familiarity with traditional televisions and the desire for bigger and better viewing experiences. This shift in consumer behaviours underscores the importance of integrators in guiding clients towards the best solutions for their specific needs.
When it comes to selecting the right display technology, it’s essential to consider the environment and the intended use. Large-format LEDs are ideal for high-light environments, while projection systems excel in light-controlled settings. Both technologies offer exceptional performance when used appropriately, but it’s about selecting the right tool for the job.
One of the most exciting developments in large-screen TVs is the advancement in direct-
view LED technology. Companies like Barco Residential are leading the way with its Northern Light series, which offers stunning image quality and exceptional video processing. These large format LEDs are designed to provide a seamless viewing experience, with built-in redundancy to ensure continuous operation even in the event of a component failure.
For integrators, the ease of installation and serviceability of large-screen TVs is a crucial factor, which is why dealers need to work with quality distributors and manufacturers that offer comprehensive support. Integrators need to know that their supplier offers the same level of support that they offer to their clients, otherwise, their overall service level agreement with their client drops below their own company standard.
Barco’s white glove service, for example, ensures that installations are carried out smoothly and efficiently, with specialists on hand to assist throughout the process. A recent project showcased how effective this service is. The integrator did all the preliminary installation work, and then passed it over to the Barco specialists from its LED division who visited the client’s house, installed the entire screen
in one go, calibrated it and made sure that the integrator was happy before they left.
As we look towards 2025 and beyond, the potential for further advancements in largescreen TV technology is immense. However, the current limitations lie not in the displays themselves but in the video source fidelity. The lesser reliance we have on streaming services versus Blu-ray discs, Kaleidescape or other high-quality playback devices, will unlock the full potential of these displays. Enhancing the quality of video sources will be key to maximising the performance of large-screen TVs in the future.
Large-screen TVs are transforming the home entertainment landscape, offering unparalleled image quality and immersive experiences. With ongoing innovations in display technology and a growing demand from consumers, the future of large-screen TVs looks brighter than ever. Integrators, distributors and manufacturers must continue to collaborate to ensure seamless installations and exceptional service, ultimately delivering the best possible viewing experiences for their clients.
SIZE MATTERS IN 2025
James Drummie, Product Manager at AWE Europe, argues size will matter even more in 2025.
As we look back on 2024, it’s clear that the professional installer market has seen some significant trends and shifts when it comes to TVs and displays. This year has been marked by a notable increase in the size and affordability of large-format TVs, as well as advancements in technology that cater to various use cases and environments.
TEMPERATURE CHECK –WHAT’S HOT RIGHT NOW?
One of the most prominent trends we’ve observed is the growing popularity of supersized TVs, especially those with screens measuring around 100in. This shift is driven by the decreasing cost of these massive displays. For instance, while a decent 98in TV might have cost between £10,000 and £20,000 18 months ago, you can now find budget 100in models at big-box stores like Costco for as little as £2,000. However, in the professional installer market, a budget of around £4,000 can secure a reasonably decent large-format TV with top end OLED models still over £20,000. This trend highlights how large-screen TVs are
becoming more accessible to the mass market, allowing more people to enjoy a cinema-like experience at home – and this is certain to continue apace.
Despite the affordability of these large TVs, there remains a significant difference between budget models and higher-end options. Budget TVs, such as those found in supermarkets, offer decent functionality but may lack the advanced features and superior picture quality of more expensive models. For example, they won’t offer the same level of performance as a higherend model with mini-LED backlighting and advanced processing capabilities, leading to higher refresh rates and image enhancement.
For those prioritising picture quality, this differentiation underscores the value of investing in a superior viewing experience
Another significant trend is the increasing integration of TVs into custom joinery and media rooms. This trend, which started in high-end luxury markets, is now filtering down to mainstream consumers, perhaps because reduced screen costs leave more room in the budget for aesthetics. Living rooms are now frequently designed as classy media rooms, with
the tech integrated within built-in cabinets that house not only the TV but also audio solutions, creating a seamless and aesthetically pleasing setup. This integration often includes soundbars or more advanced sound systems with the LCR in-wall speakers and subwoofers integrated, ensuring that the audio quality matches the impressive visuals of these large TVs.
In terms of technology, mini-LED displays are becoming more prevalent, giving better zoning of the backlight. While more advanced direct-view micro-LED tech is still on the horizon for mainstream consumer products, it is mini-LED technology which has already made big waves – the Sony BRAVIA 9 mini-LED being a good example. Another notable model here is the LG 97in OLED TV, which offers excellent black levels and superior picture quality from a wide viewing angle.
These advancements in tech offer better black levels, improved picture, and higher brightness, making them ideal for various environments, from living rooms with controlled lighting to bright, open spaces like kitchen-diners.
The Sony G4 takes flight, adding drama to viewers’ in home experiences
COOLING DOWN…
The professional installer market is also seeing a shift away from 8K. Despite the initial hype from some brands, the lack of mainstream 8K content has led many manufacturers to focus on enhancing existing 4K technology instead. This decision is largely driven by the practical needs of consumers and the current content landscape, where 4K remains the standard for highdefinition viewing. It’s more about the pixel quality than quantity.
HOTTING UP FOR 2025
Looking forward to 2025, we are certain that the trend of larger and more affordable TVs will continue, with even larger models coming on-stream. I think we may also see the introduction of micro-LED technology into more consumer solutions down the line too, albeit primarily at the high end of size and price ranges.
Additionally, the use of commercial oriented panels in consumer spaces is likely to grow, particularly for those seeking anti-reflective coatings and other features that improve visibility in bright environments with large windows and alike. We’ve already seen this in action with the success of the Sony BZ range.
IN CONCLUSION…
It is all about choosing the right product for the right use-case. The increasing size and affordability of large-format TVs, the integration of TVs into custom joinery, and the advancements in display technology are all shaping the future of home entertainment, all of which is being fed by the massive range of high-quality content streaming to people’s homes. As we move into 2025, we can expect these trends to continue, offering consumers even more options for creating the ultimate viewing experience at home. Watch this space, Q1 2025 is going to be very exciting!

for creative and design-focused solutions that seamlessly blend technology in the bathroom.
CHALLENGES
Opportunities often come with their challenges too, and the constant presence of moisture in bathroom environments comes with unique challenges for AV installers. Conducting a preinstallation assessment can ensure that any points specific to the client’s bathroom layout and wiring can be approached, addressed and managed at the right time during the installation process. For example, if power extensions are required or if the television is to be wired into the lighting circuit.
To ensure a safe and durable installation, installers must confirm the electrical item is suitable for the chosen bathroom zone and utilise the most efficient moisture resistant materials, while following any specific installation instructions from the manufacturer.
Furthermore, expert knowledge and detailed precision are required to guarantee a sleek and aesthetically pleasing appearance in the bathroom, especially with flush-mounted TV installations.
ProofVision bathroom televisions are designed to be a fully sealed unit, eliminating the opportunity for water or moisture to interact with the electrical components. Once the TV is in place and working, a silicone-based sealant will need to be applied to complete the installation.
The ProofVision models are tested and certified to an IP65 waterproof rating and are suitable for use in bathroom zones 1 and 2, meaning they can be installed in a shower enclosure or by the side of a bathtub. Additionally, they benefit from a heated screen behind the front glass layer, which prevents condensation occurring on the glass front.
FUTURE TRENDS
At ProofVision, we see the bathroom evolving into a space incorporating advanced technology solutions that track our health and enhance our daily experience. The bathroom is quite a unique space in the house. It’s a retreat where you get some time to yourself and where your mind is free to wander and relax, escaping from busy daily routines. ISE 2025 will see the global launch of designflow’s Interactive Project Showcase or IPS for short.
IPS is described as a revolutionary new way to showcase completed projects, showing off all the hidden work and technology that goes into making a smart home or building truly smart. There will be three examples on show at ISE, a cinema showroom, a two-bedroom apartment and a lighting showroom.
IPS combines 3D virtual tour scanning technology with technical drawings, photographs and user interactivity to showcase all the hidden design and technology that goes into a smart home or building. It really does need to be seen to be believed, says the company. designflow says lighting design is something that gets overlooked on many projects and ends up becoming the responsibility of the architect.
For the home cinema market, and following the launch in September, Sony’s new BRAVIA Projector 8 and 9 will make their debut at the show. The BRAVIA Projector 9 (VPL-XW8100ES) and BRAVIA Projector 8 (VPL-XW6100ES) are designed to bring a professional-grade cinematic HDR experience into the home. Equipped with a projector XR Processor for projector and Sony’s unique Laser light source, they deliver images with rich gradation in 4K HDR alongside deep black and brilliant colours, says the maker.
The BRAVIA XR Processor for projector optimises Sony’s BRAVIA TV video processing for projection. The new projectors are the first models that make up part of Sony’s BRAVIA home cinema line-up, made available alongside the BRAVIA 9, 8 and 7 series TVs and BRAVIA Theatre home audio products. By unifying home cinema projectors, TVs, soundbars and other home audio technologies under a single brand, Sony aims for customers to have a one-stop destination to enjoy cinematic experiences. All of Sony’s offerings can be seen on Stand 3E300.
When this happens, a huge opportunity is lost, as the architect will normally just ‘light’ the property, rather than highlighting features, creating talking points and complementing the interior design.
This is where the huge opportunity exists to add new revenue streams to the installers business by picking up the lighting design and more often than not the supply of the fittings on existing projects, says designflow.
This allows the installer to have more input and creativity into projects, without any risk or having to do any additional work – designflow takes care of everything from client consultations to full documentation packs that are just right.
The company’s built-in AV design service continues to grow in popularity and is now available in popular quoting platform WeQuote. A new pricing model will also launch at ISE based on the square footage or square meterage of the project, which will further simplify things for installers quoting designflow services. Check it all out and find out more on Stand 2E200.

IS ‘ECO-SMART’ THE NEW SMART TECH?
Jordan Brompton, co-founder and CMO of myenergi, explores the latest developments in smart home energy technology and explains why ‘eco-smart’ is quickly becoming the technology of choice for consumers and installers alike.
In today’s rapidly-evolving marketplace, staying abreast of tech trends and process innovation is an important part of maintaining competitive advantage. For example, we’re now seeing that preference towards devices and services that offer consumers greener, lower cost alternatives to traditional energy use is accelerating at a remarkable pace.
One major technological trend we’ve been witnessing for the past few years is the boom of domestic solar PV. According to data from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), last year was a record-breaking year for smallscale renewables, with more than 1.4 million UK homes now fitted with solar panels.
Alongside solar, the popularity of heat pumps has also grown significantly. These technologies work well in tandem because, combined, they allow users to harness the power of self-generated energy to regulate indoor temperatures without a heavy reliance on electricity from the grid. And this fact is not lost
on today’s homeowners: 30,000 heat pump units were installed in the first half of 2024 alone, marking a staggering 45% increase from the same period the previous year.
Energy storage solutions, which afford consumers more flexibility on when and how they use their self-generated energy, whether for heating, water, powering appliances or even charging an electric vehicle (EV), are also on the rise. Following a similar trend to solar and heat pumps, last year was a record-breaking year for domestic renewable energy installations in the UK, with upwards of 220,000 systems fitted and connected – more than any other year on record.
With the growing popularity of home energy generation, storage and efficient consumption, homeowners are increasingly seeking ways to integrate these devices and create home ecosystems that become greater than the sum of their individual parts. Enter the age of ecosmart technology…
What exactly is ‘eco-smart’ tech, and why is it so important?
While solar panels, heat pumps and energy storage are becoming increasingly popular installs, technologies that boost efficiencies and speed up returns on investment are also beginning to enter the mainstream.
An ‘eco-smart’ device is one which facilitates interconnectivity between multiple technologies. For example, a savvy homeowner may want to monitor and adjust the amount of self-generated electricity that’s used to heat their water tank, versus how much charges their car. They may, for instance, opt to prioritise fully charging their EV ahead of a long journey, or decide to heat their water in preparation for a chilly evening. Perhaps they want to take best advantage of agile energy tariffs by only drawing power from the grid when it’s the cheapest, only using their stored, self-generated electricity when the prices are high.
Truly versatile choice of complete highperformance architectural systems.
Turnkey solution involving patented technologies and the most advanced electronics and loudspeakers.
All JBL Synthesis products offer the performance data required for CEDIA RP-22 recommended practice.
Two Certified JBL Synthesis systems will be showcased at our new Ascot demonstration facility.
With a lineage that can be traced back to the earliest days of cinema sound, JBL Synthesis has become a global leader in immersive home theatre audio, offering some of the most advanced multichannel systems available in the world.
Today it provides a truly versatile choice of complete highperformance systems comprising matching architectural speakers and electronics for discreet, dynamic, object-based immersive sound in a wide range of projects including the largest dedicated private cinema and media rooms.
Eco-smart technology gives homeowners a tighter grip of how much energy they use, how they use it, and when… it literally puts the power in the hands of the consumer. By greatly increasing efficiency of self-generation, it allows users to save energy, reduce their carbon footprint and most importantly, minimise their energy costs.
What eco-smart options are available?
At myenergi, we’re renowned for our innovative range of eco-smart home tech, which has been specifically designed to maximise the value of self-generated renewable energy, reduce energy costs and increase energy independence.
We’re best known for designing the market’s first eco-smart EV charging device, zappi, a future-proofed solution that, alongside operating as a mains-connected charging device, seamlessly integrates with renewable energy generation like solar PV. This allows users to harness self-generated energy and charge their EVs with cheaper and greener electricity.
Alongside zappi, we also manufacture a wide range of other devices – such as eddi, the UK’s number one solar power diverter, which diverts surplus renewable energy to heating systems; and harvi, our energy monitoring wireless sensor that allows the zappi and eddi to be installed without wiring a direct CT clamp.
There’s also libbi, our modular battery storage system, which provides users with a
simple way to capture surplus green energy and access it immediately when they need it most. Homeowners opting for energy storage can choose whether to charge libbi from solar, the grid or a mixture of both – with the latter being optimised around a time-of-use or agile tariff.
ACHIEVING THE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
Investing in self-consumption technology is a growing trend amongst a new age of savvy homeowners who are becoming more ecoconscious and sustainably-minded than ever
before. By harnessing the power of eco-smart technology, users can effectively alleviate the peaks and troughs of renewable energy generation, maximise self-consumption and reduce reliance on energy from the grid.
For installers navigating an evolving technological landscape and an increasingly competitive marketplace, looking towards the latest eco-smart innovations is a clear priority. Not only will it allow installers to add greater value to their existing service offering, but will help attract a new segment of customers increasingly looking to reduce their impact on the environment and save on energy costs.
Energy consumption and control is getting ‘smarter’
JARVIS, I’M HOME!
AI will make home automation mainstream, says Eric Smith, Co-Founder & CTO, OliverIQ, an AI-powered smart home as a service (SHaaS) platform.
Custom integrators have always been the vanguard of smart home technology, crafting personalised, high-end solutions for clients willing to pay a premium for the ultimate in comfort and convenience. But this traditional model, built on high margins and low volume, is under threat. The broad market—the vast, untapped majority of homeowners who want more than DIY solutions but aren’t prepared to drop five figures on a bespoke system—is evolving rapidly and artificial intelligence (AI) is about to change the game. For integrators, this is a moment of reckoning: embrace AIdriven tools to expand into the broad market profitably, or risk being left behind in a fastchanging landscape.
Historically, integrators have avoided the broad market for good reason. Highvolume jobs with thinner margins and more intensive service needs seemed unappealing,
even unprofitable. The complex, fragmented ecosystem of consumer devices made integration a headache, and supporting these systems was a logistical nightmare, requiring ongoing time and effort with little additional revenue to show for it. But AI is rewriting these calculations, offering a path to deliver the same level of sophistication integrators are known for while drastically reducing the time, cost, and labour involved.
AI: REDUCING FRICTION AND UNLOCKING NEW REVENUE STREAMS
The primary challenge in serving the broad market has always been the time and cost of integration. Setting up even a mid-level system can involve hours of manual device provisioning, troubleshooting and custom programming. AI transforms this process entirely. Platforms
like OliverIQ can discover and integrate the most popular broad market devices across protocols automatically, configure them for interoperability, and even suggest automations—all in a fraction of the time it takes to program a traditional smart home platform. This allows integrators to complete installations faster and at scale, making high-volume projects not only feasible but profitable.
Equally important, AI slashes the long-term costs of supporting these systems. Maintenance, troubleshooting, and device upgrades, which traditionally require costly service calls, can be handled in the vast majority of cases by an automated AI assistant. AI can monitor device health, predict failures, and resolve issues automatically or guide homeowners through simple fixes. For integrators, this means fewer truck rolls, fewer hours tied up in support, and a leaner, more efficient business model.
In addition to cutting costs, AI introduces new revenue streams. Sophisticated AI assistants will be built into Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platforms, providing opportunities for integrators to offer ongoing subscriptions for device monitoring, predictive maintenance, and automation enhancements. These recurring revenue models ensure that every installation becomes a long-term relationship, not a oneoff project. Integrators can remain involved in the client’s home as their needs evolve, driving incremental upgrades and maintaining a steady stream of income.
NARROWING THE GAP BETWEEN DIY AND CUSTOM AUTOMATION
Perhaps the most disruptive aspect of AI in the smart home space is its ability to bridge the gap between high-end, custom systems and what can be achieved with off-the-shelf consumer devices. Today’s connected home technology, paired with AI, offers capabilities that would have been unimaginable a few years ago. AI-powered assistants allow users to control their homes with voice commands and without needing to interact with physical devices. Seamless multidevice and multi-manufacturer automations, like wake-up scenes, entertainment mode, or away mode, are no longer reserved for milliondollar homes. Consumers will now be able to achieve sophisticated results with devices they buy at big-box stores. AI can automate the configuration of smart devices, reducing setup time and ensuring optimal performance from the start.
A NEW ERA FOR INTEGRATION PROFESSIONALS
The future of sustainable growth lies in diversifying client bases and integrating AI-driven tools. Integrators can expand their offerings, reach new markets, and differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive landscape. AI doesn’t just make it possible to serve the broad market profitably; it elevates what integrators can achieve at every level. Faster installations, lower support costs through AIpowered diagnostics, and recurring revenue models are the foundation of a sustainable future.
Moreover, by using AI to handle routine tasks, integrators free themselves to focus on what they do best: designing exceptional experiences and cultivating lasting client relationships. Custom installers can shift from reactive to proactive service. Instead of waiting for service calls, they’ll be able to monitor systems remotely and alert customers when it’s time to change batteries or perform other routine maintenance. Integrators who adopt AI as a tool will position themselves as indispensable partners for homeowners navigating the complexities of the modern connected home.
The smart home market is at an inflection point. The tools are here, the demand is growing, and it’s a win-win situation for both installers and homeowners. AI has made it possible to deliver true automation and integration at scale. Smart home integrators and installers can provide more efficient, reliable, and personalised services, ultimately delivering a superior experience for their clients. This not only improves their operational efficiency but also enhances customer satisfaction and loyalty. Jarvis, I’m home!
AI powered smart home assistants are coming

PROCELLA-BASED PROJECT TRIUMPHS AT SMART BUILDING AWARDS!
DPP Smart Home & Electrical chose Procella Audio as the ideal solution for its ‘Surrey Cinema’ project, winner of the prestigious ‘Best Home Cinema Project Over £50K’ at the Smart Building Awards 2024.
Announced during EI Live!, the Smart Building Awards are designed to reward the very best in the industry, recognising innovation, attention to detail and the highest standards of customer satisfaction. With this background, the Procella and DPP Smart Home & Electrical teams were delighted when ‘Surrey Cinema’ took home one of the most hotly contested awards, ‘Best Home Cinema Over £50K’.
Dominic Parete, Director of DPP Smart Home & Electrical, explains, “This project was for an existing client. We had already completed work on a multi-room audio system during the renovation of their kitchen, dining room and wine cellar. I had an initial meeting with the client to go through what they wanted. We discussed some options with them and produced a 3D design of how the room would look,
incorporating their colour schemes and ideas alongside our knowledge and creative input.”
Dominic adds, “They loved going through the design process with us and were excited to see the mock-ups we had produced. The only real issue was ensuring that we could achieve this in a room that also incorporated a bar/ games area at the rear, without compromising the cinema experience.”
Obviously, with a project of this type, the key is selecting solutions that are going to deliver the required performance while also coping with the design challenges.
Dominic reveals, “The main area of the room is used as a home cinema, with highperformance AV using a Sony projector and Procella speakers. We also used Rako lighting for creating scenes and controlling the blinds and curtains. Fabric lining was employed throughout most of the room. There are two rows of FrontRow leather cinema chairs, built onto a custom platform of our own construction, which also houses a secondary TV serving
the back of the room (bar/games area). This platform also acts as a baffle wall, with diffusion diverting audio back to the seated position for some clever audio management.”
In this varied and dynamic space, Procella Audio was chosen to deliver the required sound quality and provide the flexibility the installation team needed. Specifically, three P8s were used for the LCR channels, four P5Vs for the surrounds, and a further four P5iCWs for overhead Atmos.
Dominic says, “We chose Procella for their high SPL and low-distortion levels, suitable for the room size and the number of seats. They
needed to maintain a high SPL because they were to be placed behind the fabric we were installing. The Procella speakers were easy to install after some slight adaptation using the brand’s supplied angled brackets.” The Procella range also comes with threads ready for Vesa 100 brackets, furthering their flexibility of installation.
There were plenty of challenges presented by the room, including its construction and shape, but the installation team was determined to deliver the very best results and achieve the CEDIA RP22 Standard. Procella’s involvement was key.
SETTING THE STANDARD
Ben Lancaster, European Sales Manager, Procella Audio, explains, “We went through many variations of the specification to achieve the right performance for the distance from the screen to the seating position. For this, the P8 was ideal, while leaving good headroom for overall performance. The P5Vs were chosen for their slim profile, as they would be visible in the room, while still delivering plenty of performance as surround speakers. The P5iCWs were selected due to the restricted ceiling height, requiring in-ceiling installation. The great benefit of the P5iCW is the angled baffle and square cut-out, allowing the speaker to be rotated so the tweeter can be aimed towards the Main Listening Position (MLP), improving output and performance.”
Dominic points out that Procella’s Elliptical Waveguide was particularly crucial in delivering controlled directivity, not only for the MLP
but also providing strong dispersion and performance for all the other seating positions.
Ben describes this technology, “Each speaker uses a Procella-designed Elliptical Waveguide, which, along with carefully selected crossover frequencies, produces constant power response with superior dispersion characteristics and uniform coverage over a large seating area.”
One of the main challenges was the centre speaker location, as there is a window seat where it would ideally be placed. Again, the wide dispersion characteristics of Procella’s Waveguide technology came to the fore, as the team were able to angle the centre speaker to provide the best coverage for the room.
Valuable input did not just come from the supply of Procella speakers, but also in the form of support from the Procella team. Dominic underlines that Procella was involved from the early stages and created multiple different systems to deliver the best combination of performance and price.
Ben adds, “We also helped specify the AV processor to create the best synergy for this system. We frequently help dealers with speaker layout drawings to ensure perfect positioning for projects. However, in this case, the team at DPP had this in hand.”
All the hard work and Procella’s performance have certainly paid off, as the customer states, “The overall room exceeded expectations, which were already high. After spending time in our friends’ cinema rooms, our room outperforms anything we’ve ever heard or seen before!”

ELTAKO LAUNCHES SERIES 64 MATTER-COMPATIBLE PRODUCTS
Unlike Eltako’s extensive range of EnOcean wireless devices, Matter devices are controlled via wired switches and a Wi-Fi app. However, Eltako has announced new Matter-enabled modules for switching and dimming, with more devices set to become available in the coming months. As Matter devices, they can be integrated into Apple HomeKit, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. Installers can configure them using the free Eltako Connect software, which the company says will unlock a whole new world of possibilities for homes to become truly integrated and intelligent.
The Eltako Series 64 devices combine the latest switching and control technologies with innovative connectivity and functionality. They are Matter-certified, offer REST API support according to the Open API standard, and enable over-the-air updates. Their range of functions can be expanded using Eltako’s EnOcean plugin adapter, the EOA64, which directly integrates Matter and EnOcean products.
Once the devices are installed and powered up, you will hear a tone after a few seconds. By scanning the supplied QR code, installers can add the device to the selected app. You can then choose a name for the device from a
PMC MAKES A PROPHECY
PMC says that now audiophiles and music lovers will be able to experience greater scale, realism, transparency and musicality from speakers whose style embodies the latest design trends with its new prophecy range.
The five models in the family are; prophecy1, two-way stand-mount, slimline two-way prophecy5 floor-stander, three-way prophecy7 and flagship prophecy9. Both speakers at the top of the range feature dual bass drivers. There is also a matching centre speaker for multi-channel systems, the prophecyC.
The prophecy series features a new enhancement to the company’s Laminair technology which works in tandem with the Advanced Transmission Line (ATL). The patentprotected LaminairX has undergone a radical redesign which the maker says unlocks the true potential of the ATL. The approach negates turbulence, which reduces resistance and harmonic distortion by up to 3dB. The result is elimination of air noise and bass with precision timing and an unparalleled dynamic range, says PMC. The newly developed aerodynamic vent is now incorporated into the heavy extruded aluminium base of the cabinet, which also serves to ground the speaker for even better control.
drop-down list or enter your own. Any updates are downloaded automatically. Notably, the software is encrypted and secure. Over 1,500 Matter-enabled devices are already listed for heating, lighting, blinds, air quality, access control, and leak sensors.
Matter is an open protocol, so installers are not dependent on a single manufacturer. This
allows for flexibility in selecting products from various existing manufacturers.
Eltako also offers an open API for anyone wishing to configure and control the new IP devices with their own software.

The unique holistic design philosophy considers every element, from the drive units, crossover components, ATL, LaminairX vent, wave-guides and cabinet, aiming to eliminate anything that detracts from the ideal musical experience. They have been designed together and are entirely interdependent.
New long-throw bass drive units have been developed specifically for the range and are perfectly matched to the ATL. They are of a linear design, created to deliver the deepest frequencies, without imparting any colouration
on the midrange, thanks to the combined effects of the LaminairX and ATL. The ultra-light, mica-filled cone material provides a combination of rigidity, damping and weight to enable it to respond instantly to largest or subtlest audio signals. The tweeter unit is professionally proven, having initially been employed in the professional near and midfield studio monitors.

MUSICAL FIDELITY TURNS AFFORDABILITY INTO A REALITY
Following on from the introduction of the M8xTT in 2023, Musical Fidelity is releasing a new model directly inspired by the M8xTT –at a more affordable price point. The M6xTT reduces the M8xTT design into a more compact form, making it easier to accommodate into most listening spaces.
The M6xTT brings Musical Fidelity’s high-end turntable concept to more music lovers with its multi-acrylic-plinth structure accented by a high-mass aluminium platter and a new nine inch tonearm.
The M6xTT’s dual-layer plinth is made of non-resonant acrylic, mounted on four heightadjustable magnetic feet with Teflon spacers between the layers. The top layer supports the main bearing spindle and the tonearm mount for complete isolation from the standalone drive motor, which rests on the bottom plinth, isolated from the structure by a special foam material.
The result is a turntable that effectively eliminates the transfer of resonances from the surrounding environment and from within itself. The drive motor allows for push-button changes between 33 and 45 rpm speeds, and
houses within its structure a sophisticated DCdriven AC generator. This construction means that the frequency and voltage feed for the motor are generated from scratch within the motor assembly, rather than being reliant on the external power supply.
The motor is connected to the heavy (6.6kg) TPE-damped aluminium main platter by a one-piece drive belt without any glued joints, providing rotational stability.
The turntable is supported by four magnetic heavyweight feet, made from aluminium and damped with TPE. Their unique assembly means they can support both acrylic layers, and
grade, Quad Balanced, eight-channel, 32-bit DAC featuring strong dynamic range and low distortion. Bluetooth streaming capabilities utilise Bluetooth 5.0, Qualcomm aptX HD for hi-res audio playback and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive, a robust solution that delivers high resolution, uninterrupted audio over Bluetooth.
The MSA5500 also comes with Roon Ready certification. The MSA5500 comes with seven digital and five analogue audio inputs to connect separate audio components. There is also a Moving Magnet phono input to integrate analogue listening sources into one system.
The MSA5500 brings McIntosh’s power to the experience, delivering 100W per channel into 8 Ohms or 160W per channel into 4 Ohms.
Other McIntosh technologies include Power Guard; Sentry Monitor; Monogrammed Heatsinks; Home Theater PassThru; Goldplated Solid Cinch speaker binding posts; Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD) and Power Control. If a more powerful amplifier is introduced into the system, the MSA5500’s internal amplifier can be bypassed, and users can still leverage the product’s familiar streaming and preamplifier capabilities.

that they can also be height-adjusted to create a perfectly level platform.
The M6xTT’s new nine inch tonearm is an ultra-low resonance design with a conical aluminium tonearm tube and a transparent acrylic bearing ring. The arm is fully adjustable for azimuth and VTA settings and comes equipped with two TPE-damped counterweights to support a wide range of cartridges. The tonearm is connected to a phono stage by a standard 5P DIN cable, allowing for easy cable upgrades in the future.
The MSA5500 will be available this January to authorised McIntosh dealers with an MSRP of £9,995 GBP / €9,990 EUR/ $8,000 USD
The M6xTT is available via Henley Audio in the UK with an end user price of £4,799.00
