Celebration Dinner Million Pound
“Together for Cinematogether for better”
Honoured to support the most special cinemas for the most special people.
Welcome
“It seems a very long time ago that the seeds of Together For Cinema were first sewn. A thought whilst watching a TV programme… a speculative phone call to Donna’s Dream House, followed by a long train journey and a meeting in Blackpool on May 18th, 2009. 15 years later, we gather at this Celebration Dinner as an industry united to make a difference in our community.
Over £1 million worth of cinema room installations into children’s hospices and other deserving care locations in the UK is one thing, and a wonderful achievement achieved. But what is amazing is how our industry has come together with the unified desire to create change for the better and collaborate for the common good. Egos, brands, status… all irrelevant, the only relevance is getting the job done and moving on to the next location to initiate change for the better.
The impact of what all of the Together For Cinema partners has made happen is huge and touches so many people every day. I thank you and congratulate you all in helping make Together For Cinema what it is today and for what we have achieved. Forty three memory making cinema rooms, as well as a host of other donated AV products has made such a positive difference.
Be it funding, product donations, installation skills, media exposure or any one of the numerous day to day pro bono donated skills needed to make Together For Cinema happen, I send heartfelt thanks to you all.
Enjoy your evening and onwards and upwards to the next £1 million worth of installations!
Ian
Together For Cinema, together for better… and long may this continue!”

“Rako are incredibly proud to support Together for Cinema and play a small part in making a big difference to children, young adults and their families.”
- Peter Broome, DirectorA brief history of Together for Cinema
When Together for Cinema Founder, Ian Morrish, ‘stumbled’, into the AV industry in the early 1990s, little did he know that his journey would lead him to creating a good cause company that has now achieved an incredible £1 million worth of cinema room installations in children’s hospices and other equally important places that support poorly children and their families.
The idea first came about in March of 2009, when Ian was watching The Secret Millionaire television programme. It featured a holiday home for children with short lives and their families in Blackpool. So moved was he by the story, he wanted to do more than simply donate to the cause. He contacted the holiday home organisers to see if there was anything the AV industry at large could do to help.
Around 14 months later, Ian and his team had created a cinema room in one of the log cabins donated by The Secret Millionaire. Seeing the impact the room had, he contacted Together for Short Lives, a large UK charity with 54 children’s hospices under its umbrella. After several meetings and conversations, Together for Cinema was born and set a target to complete 25 cinema room installations by the end of 2020. That September, the goal was achieved, and to a value of over £500,000.
Congratulations to Together For Cinema
We recognise the power of music and cinema and its power to influence thoughts, feelings, behaviour and its many positive psychological benefits. Working with Together for Cinema and others to bring these amazingly creative installations into Hospice’s around the UK has been a privilege.
Congratulations from the whole team at Monitor Audio Group.
Explore more Listen Again.
Since then, with the help of Operational Partners, Installations Partners, Product Partners and Media Partners, Together for Cinema has achieved the incredible £1 million milestone.
In March 2021, Ian committed to running the company full time and the AV and associated industries started officially allocating grants to help fund the operation. Over 70 companies now allocate grant funding, and more can be given back to the community, and fundraising activities from intrepid AV colleagues puts some ‘icing on the cake’ of both existing and future projects.
The organisation now has Community Interest Company status and a board of directors to help Ian in his quest to continue the great work Together For Cinema does. There are now 42 cinema room installations delivered at an impressive ‘had they been paid for’ value of just over £1 million.
But by far the most gratifying part is the positive difference this coming together of the AV industry has made to the lives of so many children, their families, carers, and the people who work in these organisations in what are often very challenging circumstances. For that, we thank you!

“Crestron products are used all over the world in some amazing applications, but one of the best applications I can think of is, even if only for a brief moment, putting a smile on a sick child’s face. Thank you Ian and the rest of the Together for Cinema team for all of the hard work you do to make that possible.”
Dan Feldstein, CEO, Crestron
“I think it’s amazing what TFC has achieved with the help of our industry, and it’s something all involved can be proud of. From our recipient venues…
The Space Centre: Preston, Lancashire
- Install completed November 2023
After experiencing a fantastic cinema already installed by Together for Cinema I contacted Ian to see if The Space Centre would be eligible. I was thrilled when he came to see us and agreed, and then to find it was going to be this year was amazing! The Cinema will be so beneficial to so many of Service Users who cannot access a mainstream cinema for a variety of reasons. Having our own cinema means our visitors can walk about in there, make noises, pause the film if necessary – anything they like to make their experience the best. The bookings are flooding in, and everybody loves it!
Jane Robinson, Manager, The Space Centre
We Are Beams: Hextable, Kent
- Install completed September 2023
Together for Cinema came our way through a mutual contactPeter Alloway from Invision was aware of the great work Beams were undertaking and following an initial scoping conversation with TFC it became clear that a home cinema type of installation would be achievable for us (and something we would never be able to afford ourselves!!). The project progressed super smoothly through the excellent Ideaworks. We have been absolutely blown away by their professionalism and friendliness and the finished product is quite simply superb.
Paul Kennedy, Deputy Head of Charity, We Are Beams
Acorns Children’s HospiceAcorns in the Black Country (Walsall)
- Initial install completed Jan 2012
- Upgrade completed September 2023
Having worked within Acorns for a relatively short time, I am overwhelmed by the both the generosity and professionalism of both Jooced and TFC. Together this team has delivered an incredible cinema experience for our children by bringing this to our Hospice. This has created an inclusive and accessible culture bringing us all together. On behalf of us all at Acorns…, THANK YOU!
Neil Patel, Facilities Manager, Acorns Children’s Hospice
Resources for Autism –Temple Fortune, North London
- Install completed July 2023
When Ian first contacted us about the possibility of installing a cinema room in our venue, I was not sure what to make of it. We had never been approached for a gift in kind of that nature. I remember looking at my team and we felt so excited about all the ways we could use this room and the difference it would make to our youth groups. Our new cinema room is a space where our beneficiaries can relax, enjoy a sensory experience of watching a movie with state-of-the-art technology. This is absolutely special and something we could not ever afford to do. Every part of this partnership has reminded us that there are people out there who are willing to support our cause in unique and innovative ways.
Dolyanna Mordochai, Chief Executive Officer, Resources For Autism
St Oswald’s Hospice: Gosforth, Newcastle
- Install completed November 2022
I first worked with Ian and Together For Cinema in 2012 when the cinema equipment was installed in the Children’s Services. It’s been a fantastic facility for us to have and has given so many children and their families so much fun and experiences together over the years since installation.
When the opportunity arose in 2021 for a possible additional installation, although their focus had been in Children’s Hospices, I asked if an installation of cinema equipment in our new Family Room on the Adult Inpatient unit could be considered.
Thanks to TFC and the generosity of the suppliers, manufacturers and the installation company, the project went ahead successfully and on target. We were able to have this facility available for our patients and their families in December 2022 – meaning they were able to share and make precious memories together in the last days of their lives and there have subsequently been so many memories and happy times since and more planned for the future. It is without doubt that this could not have been achieved without the generosity and teamwork of all those involved.
Jane Hamblin, Head of Facilities, St Oswald’s Hospice
Andy’s Children’s Hospice at St Andrew’s Hospice: Grimsby, Lancashire
- Install completed October 2022
We were so excited when we first heard about the cinemas being developed in Children’s Hospices, and our excitement only grew when we first met Ian, from Together for Cinema and Ben, from Sonic Vision. The image that they brought alive through their initial thoughts and ideas sounded too good to be true. We really couldn’t imagine the Estates Team workshop/storage room looking like a cinema, and we were totally blown away when we saw it for the first time. Wow, wow, wow!!
Michelle Rollinson, Chief Executive, St Andrews Hospice
Dougie Mac Children’s Hospice: Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire
- Install completed August 2022
‘We were so excited when we first heard from Ian with his generous offer to potentially build us a cinema room for the hospice. We were a little sceptical at first (though I really shouldn’t have been!) as it’s not every day you receive an offer of support like this!
Both TFC and Andy from Trusted Technology were totally committed to the project and have been incredibly generous in helping to create this magical space. The silver screen definitely arrived at the Dougie Mac!
Jane Jones, Head of Children and Young Adult Services at Dougie Mac Children’s Hospice
Julia’s House, Corfe Mullen, Dorset
- Install completed July 2022
The children have used it to come together and enjoy the full experience of the cinema in the Hospice with popcorn, pizza and full surround sound. They are able to enjoy the experience with no concerns about having the right seating or sound levels and we can make it a bespoke experience for all the children that are using the Hospice at a given time. Watching their excitement and joy has been a delight.
Heather Philpotts, Lead Nurse, Wiltshire
Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
- Install completed June 2021
Many of our families cannot go to public cinemas because of their child’s condition and so miss out on this uniquely wonderful experience. That we can now bring the magic of the movies to them right here at the hospice means the world to all of us. This will give so many families the chance to make very special memories together. A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.
Luen Thompson, CEO, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice
White Lodge Centre, Chertsey, Surrey
- Install completed July 2020
Despite the cinema opening during the pandemic it was instantly well used. Our specialist children’s nursery has a booked slot once a week to watch Disney films in small numbers - I think it’s the children’s favourite activity. Our overnight short breaks unit come and use the room at weekends and our midweek young adults club use it to watch movies as well as special interest programmes on BBCiplayer and YouTube. The impact has been fantastic.
Mike Hey, Head of Fundraising and Marketing, White Lodge Centre
EACH Milton
- Install completed October 2019
The cinema is currently used on a regular basis by children who not only want to engage in a real cinematic experience, but by those who want to see their favourite programmes on the big screen. It is also a big hit with young people who like to game on the big screen, and there have been groups of teenagers who have used it as part of a movie night and had takeaway pizza donated alongside real homemade popcorn.
Mike Higgins, EACH Service Manager, East Anglia Children’s Hospices (EACH)
Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, Barnet, London
- Install completed October 2019
We have used the Together For Cinema equipment to show films and play games with many different children that come to The Ark for entertainment and fun, during what may be a very difficult time in their lives. Having a cinema room in the hospice is a wonderful way for our children to enjoy the films and games they love.
Robin Walton, Noah’s Ark Childen’s Hospice
Derian House Children’s Hospice, Chorley
- Install completed August 2019
The cinema at Derian House was unveiled as part of our millionpound refurbishment of the hospice in August 2019, and quickly became a firm favourite with our children. Since then, hundreds of families have enjoyed their very own movie nights (complete with hotdogs and popcorn!) secure in the knowledge that they can make memories together in a clean and safe environment.
David Robinson, Chief Executive, Derian House Children’s Hospice
The Woodlands, Crowthorne, Berkshire
- Install completed July 2018
At The Woodlands, the cinema room has been a fantastic addition to the services that we are able to offer. Many families have had the opportunity to use the big screen for making precious memories as they would not be able to access a normal cinema due to their child’s condition. It is such a special thing that we are able to offer for the children and families that we support.
Katie Cowie, Director of Care, Sebastians Action Trust
The Bluebells, North Waltham, Hampshire
- Install completed December 2017
The cinema room at The Bluebells is one of our most used facilities. Families staying at The Bluebells spend many hours of quality time together watching movies and having a friendly competition on the Wii. The cinema room is so very important as many of our children are immune compromised, which makes a trip to the cinema too dangerous for their health. Having a cinema room at the Bluebells means we can replicate this experience without any compromise to their health.
Katie Cowie, Director of Care, Sebastians Action Trust
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices –Christopher’s, Guildford, Surrey
- Install completed December 2016
Many of our families can’t go to the cinema together as they would have to do nursing tasks such as noisy suction or their child might be ventilated, and the noise of the machines would not be acceptable to others around them in a cinema. Now they can experience a cinema trip as a family.
Alex Rennie, Corporate Relationship Manager, Shooting Star Chase
Ty Hafan, Sully, Wales
- Install completed December 2013
Having access to the spacious cinema room has enabled us to facilitate group film shows, supporting young people to get together and benefit from emotional as well as social support. Many of the children using this resource rely on big wheelchairs, making cinema attendance tricky, but definitely limiting the ability to sit next to a friend and just hang out watching a movie together.

Congratulations in recognition of a remarkable milestone of £1M cinema installations
What the future holds
Of course, the future will see us continuing to install cinema rooms in worthy venues around the country. That is, and always will be, our primary goal.
The second half of this year will also see us moving forward with our repurposing initiative to take discontinued or legacy AV products and find homes for them in good causes, rather than see them going into landfill. February 2025 is expected to see the ‘soft’ launch for Together For Cinema’s AV Industry Product Re-Purposing Programme.
The following month, a Three Year Succession Plan will be discussed to ensure the organisation’s future is secure, along with the feasibility for a second full time member of staff.
In May 2025, we expect to hit 50 cinema rooms, and winter 2027 is our target time to hit our second million pounds worth of good cause cinema room installations.
We’re looking forward with hope that our £2m Celebration Dinner will be held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in May 2028, with even more guests in attendance.
And finally, for now, December 2032 is the target date to hit 100 donated cinema rooms to good causes.
