L’Atomium n’était pas destinée à survivre au-delà de l’Exposition Universelle de 1958 mais sa popularité et son succès en firent rapidement un élément majeur du paysage d’abord bruxellois, puis national et européen.

Es war nicht vorgesehen, dass das Atomium nach der Weltausstellung von 1958 fortbestehen sollte, aber die Popularität und der Erfolg ließen es bald zu einem wichtigen Bestandteil der Brüsseler und später auch der nationalen und Europäischen Landschaft werden.
