I extend a big thankyou to Merilyn Dunn for her article on our President’s Weekend Run at Port Stephens (see pages 8-9). Everyone who attended had a wow of a time … and those daring to dress in the nautical theme of the weekend added to the fun.
The recent Bay to Bermagui run was a treat for many car enthusiasts … and especially for Club members Ross and Robyne Bell. They were thrilled to receive the Oldest Car on the Run award for their 1929 A7 Tourer. Congratulations to Graham and Maria Burgess on the restoration of their 1929 A7 Roadster. They have named her Rita … and you can catch a glimpse of her on page 9 of this magazine.

Have you ever considered the pressures placed on governments concerning motoring? Following the recent Shannons Sydney Classic the CMC held a Club Presidents meeting where we were alerted to the extent of constant state and federal government lobbying by the antimotoring fraternity on issues like cash-for -clunkers, finite oil resources, carbon tax, pollution problems and even the Greens wanting everyone to ride bicycles. Should any of these schemes gain ac-
ceptance in the future it could jeopardise our historic cars. The CMC and similar organisations have united to lobby governments in our motoring interests.
Those attending the Christmas in July Weekend at Port Stephens had a wonderful time ... this event was also the Austin 7 Club Presidents Run.
Motor Vehicle Club as numbers are required by the organisers needing to arrange sufficient parking spaces for our Clubs.
Our July Club run finished for lunch at the German Club at Luddenham with 8 Austin 7’s and 1 Sunbeam seen traveling around the countryside.
Also could you please advise if you intend displaying your car at Shannons Sydney Classic and All British Day in August 2014. The committee will only be applying once to purchase tickets to these events and you can place your name on a list that will be available at General meetings till the end of this year.
Shannons Sydney Classic Display day saw 8 Austin 7’s attend and unfortunately 2 Austin 7’s had problems and didn’t arrive. All British Day saw our cars in a new display area and the Austin 7’s were sparkling and all managed to fit into one line and drew much attention and looked fantastic. The day was wonderful as usual and everyone enjoyed themselves especially young Jessica, Katie and Jackie who thoroughly enjoyed the kids entertainment and rides. It was great to see 12 Austin 7’s on show but 4 members were unable to display their cars due to illness or car problems. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested in attending Australia Day festivities in Wollongong with the Austin Page 4

Farming Small Areas Expo 2013 - Vintage Car Display Hawkesbury Showground, Racecourse Road, Clarendon. Entry for exhibitors is FREE. In it’s eleventh year, this Expo is Sydney’s largest small acreage showcase and is the launching pad for many new products and services. Featuring everything from food to fashion, stalls, machinery and livestock, over 150 trade and commercial exhibits, equine demonstrations, cattle to kitchenware and not to mention a great display of vintage cars.

18 August 2013. Today we enjoyed a beautiful 24° winters day at the Sydney Motorsport Park at Eastern Creek. Club members present were Merv & Maureen Boatwright, Paul Boatwright and Katie, Cliff Edwards, Warren Gracie, Trevor Hails, Anthony & Kevin Harte, Jim Johnston, Ken Rolley, Mark Wellington and Robert & Faye Yarroll. All together there were ten little Austin Sevens for enthusiasts to enjoy. Roads leading to Eastern Creek experienced heavy traffic from early morning as over 1,900 vintage and classic cars made their annual pilgrimage to the Shannons Sydney Classic. All types of vehicles were displayed including cars, bikes, scooters, buses and military vehicles. The Council of Motor Clubs (the event organiser) celebrated its 50th Anniversary this year. Many marques were also celebrating important birthdays including; 100 years for Aston Martin and Morris, 90 years for Jowett, 60 years for Corvette, FJ Holden and MG Magnette, 50 years for Porsche 911, Nissan Cedric, Nissan Bluebird, EH Holden and Rover P6, and 40 years for Leyland P76. The fun started early as the cars arrived and made their way to their allocated areas. Many spectators and serious moPage 6
tor enthusiasts followed together with those adults and children just looking for a fun day out. All the usual junk foods were readily available and this helped to make it a real fun-fair atmosphere. For those with a few spare dollars to spend there was lots of motoring books, spare parts, model cars and all sorts of other things available in the garage areas. Many people turned back the clock by catching a ride on an old Sydney bus; and even an old red London bus too. Great simple fun for all the family and a nostalgic journey for the oldies. Eventually, it was the Austin 7’s turn to take to the track. So off we all went to take our beasts for a burn around the circuit. It was a leisurely affair as no overtaking was permitted … so it looked more like a funeral procession than anything else … but we all had fun anyway! Some splendid trophies were awarded after the concours cars were judged. But importantly ... the time finally came to draw the raffle for a 1963 AP5 Chrysler Valiant. Many members were excited about the draw as we have been buying tickets since last years event. Well, there is now a very lucky Queenslander who has just become the new owner of a classic Valiant. Better luck next time!
25 August 2013. We all know it’s supposed to be winter … but it was hot today at North Parramatta. Many car enthusiasts look forward to the annual All British Display Day ... and with about 1,500 cars present there were plenty to drool over. The display featured over 50 Car Clubs representing most British brands, both current and past.

The Yarroll’s arrived early in their 1932 Austin 7 but were quickly ambushed for an interview by Channel 7’s Weekend Sunrise show presenter James Tobin. This snippet was broadcast live around 8:35am. What a great start to the day!
The day was hosted by the Kings School and coincided with its Annual Fair. Other entertainment included an Art Show that featured an exhibition and sales, market stalls, wine tastings, jewellery and a funfair for the children. Club members displayed 17 Austin Sevens today that showcased a wide range of body styles. It was great to see Graham & Maria Burgess bring their Austin all the way from the Hunter region for the event. Other members enjoying the day were Anne and Eric Bourne, Merv & Maureen Boatwright, Paul & Sandra Boatwright with Jessica, Jackie & Katie, Cliff & Jeanette Edwards, Kevin and Barbara Fahey, Warren Gracie & friend David, Trevor Hails, Anthony & Kevin Harte, Jim Johnston, Russell Linfoot, Gordon Love, Robert & Fay McCarthy, George & Sue McGill, Jennifer McIntosh & James Murray, Paul & Amy Pui, Ian Reece, Robert Riches & son-in-law Michael, Ken Rolley, Don & Barbara
Robert, James and Faye Later on, members shared many stories and lots of laughter was heard around the cars. As the day drew to a close, one member was excited about a possible new addition that might soon make its way into his garage. However, his wife was overheard saying something like, “no way … we have enough bits and pieces in our shed already”. We all know how much our male members just love their spare parts and buckets of bits. Another great day was had by all. Page 7
Article by Merilyn Dunn. 20-21 July 2013. Our Club joined the Great Lakes Historic Car Club for a Christmas in July in Port Stephens. President Warren Gracie thought it would be a fitting weekend to make this our Annual Presidents Run as well. Saturday didn’t start out looking too promising with dark clouds, cool temperatures and a gloomy weather forecast to match. Regardless of the weather and in true Austin Seven spirit Warren Gracie, Graham & Maria Burgess, Jim & Merilyn Dunn, Cliff Stockley and Elaine Taylor all met up at Morpeth to join with members of the Great Lakes Historic Car Club and a few from the MG Car Club of Sydney. Cliff and Jim, their A7’s were all off the road due to mechanical problems. So our Club was represented by Rita, a beautiful little 1929 Austin 7 Roadster owned by Graham & Maria Burgess.

Saturday nights Christmas in July Dinner had a Nautical theme. There was plenty of pirates and wayward looking seafarers and the atmosphere was great.
After a meet and greet it was time to relax over a scrumptious lunch at the local Morpeth Hotel. As we left the hotel after lunch we were pleasantly surprised by the sunshine and clear skies. We were all definitely looking forward to a great weekend together. The afternoon was ours to meander to Port Stephens at our own pace to reach our overnight accommodation at the Salamander
It was noticed that some of our male members enjoyed some light refreshments during the afternoon at a local Bowling Club. I wonder who told the biggest yarns?
After a leisurely Sunday morning breakfast we were met by members of the Port Stephens Car Club who came to join us before we headed off to Fighter World … where the proud history of Royal Australian Air Force fighter aircraft is honoured. The entire weekend was great and many new friendships were formed. A big thank you must go to

28 July 2013. It was very a cold Sydney morning as we made our way to the Liverpool Regional Museum. Seven Austin 7’s gathered for todays scenic drive that would take us to a German restaurant for lunch. Merv & Maureen Boatwright, Paul & Sandra Boatwright with Jessica, Katie & Jackie, Warren Gracie, Paul & Amy Pui, Ken Rolley, Ron Selig, Mark & Joanne Wellington and Robert & Faye Yarroll were all eager to go. We also had a visitor today, Garth Selig joined us in his yellow 1954 Sunbeam Alpine. Upon leaving Liverpool we made our way through Camden and onto Razorback where we stopped at a scenic lookout to take in the 360° views. The viewing area was surrounded by very steep grassy slopes which made perfect slippery slides for the children and some young-at-heart adults too. As the day progressed the weather warmed to a very pleasant winters day.
From Razorback we backtracked to Camden again and continued on the Northern Road to Luddenham where we turned off at Adams Road and entered the Hubertus Country Club. We visited this German Club a few years back and everyone was excited to be visiting again today. Our lunch venue was the Jagerstubn Restaurant. The menu is vast with plenty of traditional German delicacies … and wouldn’t we like to taste them all! By the time everyone placed their lunch order we had just about picked everything listed on the menu. Paul Pui is well known for his extremely large appetite ... but even he was pushed to his limit to finish his meal. Everyone had too much to eat … and thoroughly enjoyed themselves doing it! Maureen organised todays destination and as usual it was a great success. A perfect winters day cruising around in our baby Austins and having a good feed and chat … what more could any Austineer want? Page 10
Club member Paul James passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on 22 May 2013. He was aged 71 years. Paul is survived by his wife Sue, his children Vanessa and Alex and three grandchildren. Paul and Sue have been A7 enthusiast’s and Club members for many years and are the proud custodians of a cream and brown 1933 Austin 7 AEW Sports in original condition. Sue reflects on the days when Barbara Harris (her sister-in-law in the UK) used to take her little baby Austin for its regular Sunday morning drive to fetch the newspaper. Much to Paul’s surprise, when Barbara passed away in 1994 he was left to care for the Austin 7. A few years passed and in 1998 a large contingent of Victorian Austineers transported their baby Austins by ship to the UK to attend a rally. All the cars needed to make the big journey back home again after the rally and were once again loaded into containers to sail back to Australia. It was at this time that there was just enough room in one of the containers to fit another little Austin 7. So Paul and Sue’s 1933 Austin 7 Sports was soon on its way down under to its new home in Sydney. Paul and Sue enjoyed reading the recent Baby Torque magazine article on John O’Groats ~ Lands End written by Robert and Lizzy Rhodes. This brought back very fond memories of the wonderful times they and their friends and relatives shared together in the UK. Paul will be sadly missed by his family and friends. On behalf of members of the Austin 7 Club NSW I extend our thoughts and prayers to Sue and her family.

These points are awarded whether you attend in your Austin 7 or modern car. The person with the highest points tally will receive a trophy at our Christmas Luncheon / Presentation Day. Our Club is a member of The Council of Motor Clubs, Inc The Austin 7 Club NSW Inc has been active since 1984 and aims to bring together people with the common interest of restoring, preserving and driving Austin Sevens. We are an informal family club that regularly takes our "Babies" to
