Brooklyn Run

4

On Sunday 21st February new Members Faye and Robert Yarroll took their new Austin Seven (named Herbert) on its first Club Run to Brooklyn. Six cars with Members (4 Austin’s and 2 moderns) met at North Strathfield and set out on their journey in perfect summer conditions. Another two Austin’s joined the run along the way. Brooklyn was at its best with clear skies and fresh clean air. The food at our destination was just as good as the conversation. There was plenty of talk and fun. After eating and talking for a while everyone set off for the scenic run to the Berowra Ferry. It’s a long and winding road down to the ferry but all cars made it safely. However, not all cars fit on the same ferry so there was another chance for some Members to have a chat while waiting for the next ferry load to arrive. Then we were off again through beautiful Arcadia and onto the Galston shops for a much needed refreshment break. Robert drove Herbert quite cautiously at first but soon got into the knack of keeping his “revs-up”. Faye and Robert thoroughly enjoyed the outing and are looking forward to many more. Robert did make a comment that his car seemed to go better down-hill than up-hill. Boy, he sure has got a lot to learn about Austin Sevens. Someone was heard to say, “thank goodness that new Austin isn’t as loud as the driver’s shirt”. Faye enjoyed being a passenger but says she has no desire to become the driver. But being a good organiser and fuss-pot she has taken good control of Herbert’s maintenance and cleaning. Obviously she’s doing a good job as Herbert looked sparkling on the day. All in all, it was another great Club Run and everyone had lots of fun.

(The above article would have run in the March edition had there been available space. It is included this month with thanks for Faye and Robert’s participtaion. Ed.)

President’s Report

6

Our Committee is always looking for ways to improve our Club. The next item on the agenda is modernising the Club constitution or, to be precise, simplifying it so that we can easily reproduce copies to provide to all Members. Over the coming months we will be allotting time at the general meetings to go over the proposed changes to make sure we get it right. I am pleased to report the long awaited improved website is now up and running. Please take the time to have a look and offer suggestions for improved content. Already this year we have had some sensational runs, the most recent was a run to Penrith down the M4. Our “Babies” looked spectacular in convoy and there was plenty of support from the other road users. Our aim this year is to have everyone attend at least three runs, so now’s a good time to dust off your pride and joy and join in. Happy Motoring, Mark Wellington

Please note: Any Member using a vehicle that is on Conditional Registration (HCRS) and is attending a Secondary Club Run, or any event listed under Invitations Accepted or Other Events of Interest, MUST contact a Committee Member to advise your vehicle movements prior to attending the event. The committee of the nominated primary club on your conditional registration must be aware, and approve of, all movements of your vehicle. If you wish to attend invitational events outside Club runs, you must contact a committee Member to log the trip, otherwise your registration and insurance is not valid. At all times your Austin 7 should carry a copy of the Club’s Certificate of Insurance (Public Liability) and the most recent copy of “Baby Torque”.

Event Director’s Report The Mystery Run saw our “Babies” travel to the Museum of Fire at Penrith, then down to the river for lunch followed by a scenic drive to Vicary’s Winery for some wine tasting. It was a lovely day and so exciting to see such a good roll-up of Austin 7’s in different shapes and colours. Attending in their Austin’s were; Cliff Stockley, Trevor Hails, Ken Rolley, Warren Gracie, Faye and Robert Yarroll, Joanne and Mark Wellington and Maureen and Mervyn Boatwright. Amy and Paul Pui attended in their modern. Our Club was invited to spend the afternoon of Sunday March 14th at the Orian Theatre at Campsie. The 50th Anniversary of NSW Division of TOSA members were being entertained by Bill Schumacker playing the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ (formally of the Capital Theatre in Sydney) and Bernard Walz playing the Grand Piano. Four Austin 7’s from our Club were on display alongside vehicles from the Austin Motor Vehicle Club. Unfortunately, our Club didn’t receive the invitation till after the printing of the March magazine otherwise more Members could have joined us. Those interested in displaying their Austin 7’s at Shannons Eastern Creek and The All British Day, Kings School North Parramatta, are asked to please contact the Events Director so your name can be placed on the list. This will see the early birds being assured of Entry Forms for the events. At the April General Meeting, the winner of an Austin 7 etched glass will be announced. There was an interesting discussion that took place during the lunch stop on the March run and unfortunately there can only be one winner. See you on the National Motoring Heritage Run. Happy Austin 7 touring, Maureen Boatwright

Happy Birthday to all the Members who celebrate birthdays in April.

New Website And E-Baby Torque

9

Those who regularly attend general meetings would be aware that I have been working on a new website for the Austin 7 Club NSW Inc. The site was due to go live towards the end of February but was delayed to to some technical problems. I’m happy to announce that the new www.austin7clubnsw.org.au has been completed and is now live. The new site gives the Club alot more flexibility for future expansion, new features and powerful reporting tools, such as Google Analytics. In the modern world websites are often the first point of contact for people interested in specific subjects and club sites are a great way to showoff our cars and what we do. They are also a great tool for attracting new Members and providing other interested parties with a ready means by which to contact us. As such, I welcome all suggestions or improvements that Members may have in order to help the website accurately reflect our Club. So please, go online have a look and let me know what you all think. Also, our new hosting agreement includes an email facility that has allowed us to maintian the info@austin7clubnsw.org.au email address. Any pictures, reports or info you wish to send for the magazine and website or any correspondance you wish to send to the committee should be forwarded to this address. Finally, one of the other projects I recently completed was the evolution of E-Baby Torque. The first version was simply a pdf file that Members could open and view using Adobe Acrobat Reader. It was always my intention to have E-Baby Torque presented in a more “magazine-like” format for viewing on screen. Through the use of a very clever, free online publishing site I have been able to generate E-Baby Torque in the format that I had always envisioned. The new E-Baby Torque is identical to the printed version in all ways except that it is viewed via an online publisher instead of being posted. Current E-Baby Torque subscribers would be familiar with the new format and the monthly email that supplies a link to the latest version (go to www.issuu.com/austin7clubnsw to view our online library). A printable pdf version is still supplied. With the recent update of the Club’s Member database it has been noted that alot of you have active email accounts. With that in mind, in the coming months all Members that have supplied an email address will begin to receive E-Baby Torque instead of the traditional printed version. Please, have a look and decide if you are happy receiving your magazine in this format. Doing so will help the Club save money on monthly postage and printing costs. E-Baby Torque distribution will begin in June. If you are unhappy with E-Baby Torque and would prefer the printed version be posted you must email me to opt out. Darryl Stockley Editor

Point Score Trophy

10

Don’t forget the Austin 7 Club “Point Score” program. Our aim is to see as many people attending events and meetings (this includes monthly general meetings) as possible. Participation in an event or outing, begining from the starting point and going through to the finish, will score you 2 points while attendance at a general meeting will score you 1 point. These points are awarded if you show up in your Austin 7 or your modern and the person with the highest points tally will receive a trophy at our Christmas Luncheon/Presentation Day. So get involved, support your Club and have some fun. See the Coming Events section on page 2 for our next event.
