President

Officer Hey Key Clubbers! Last month's events gave us a great headstart into the volunteering community and there are more opportunities on the way! I was happy we had high member participation in our 1st general meeting, which turned out successful! October was focused on promoting environmental awareness. For one of our events, members who attended removed trash from a local park! We were also given the opportunity to make door hangers with reminders for teachers/staff and students to "save energy" and "reduce, reuse and recycle". We had a Dog Toy Workshop, where members turned old tshirts into chew shirts for dogs which will be donated to a local shelter! Some members were able to participate in the Outrun Hunger 5k, helping set up, clean up and hand-out tickets. In November, we have Homecoming Week going on, which is exciting! I am looking forward to our second general meeting and our Halloween social! Our first social will include games, food, music and fun. It will be a good time to get to know more Key Clubbers and I can't wait!

Yours in service, Brittney Adeck

Hey Key clubbers! November was such a success, with various events and planning coming up soon; we are so excited to fully call our members official! We are more than happy to have so many new members and faces within our club this year, we cant wait to help them learn the core values of key club and help them implement those values within their everyday lives. As editor, showcasing our very first newsletter to our members was truly a highlight. This newsletter will allow our members to connect and be up to date! Yours in service, Sarra Alwani

Memorable Meeting

Arti

This is my second year being in Key Club, but this year was going to be different. Since I joined Key Club during 2020-2021, we had virtual meetings; however, this year I was excited to finally have a face-to-face meeting with the Key Club officers and future members. I enjoyed my first 2021-2022 Key Club meeting because the officers were welcoming, and it was great to see a lot of my friends and new people. The Key Club officers were extremely communicative about the details of the first meeting, which was helpful. As I was walking into our meeting room, I was welcomed by the Key Club officers and my friends who were interested in joining this club. I loved being able to finally see the new officers in person because it allows a better connection between the members and leaders. Also, I was happy to see many new people who I had not seen before. As the meeting started, I enjoyed doing the icebreaker that the officers told us to do. This is because it allowed me to talk to new people about our interests and build a connection with them. My first meeting was overall fun and such an enjoyable experience that convinced me to join Key Club for the second year. The first meeting was well put together and it allowed me to have a great time with others. I was happy that I choose to attend the meeting because, it was a wonderful experience that allowed me to socialize with new people. The meeting impacted my decision of whether I would be joining Key Club officially. I have decided that I will join Key Club because I love the welcoming, diverse, and nice environment in the club. My first Key Club meeting was a wonderful experience to meet new people and see my friends since, the pandemic. The officers were extremely welcoming and helpful during my first meeting. Since then, I am excited to see how other meetings and opportunity events will go! - By Emily Salgado

Balancing School and Key Club

With school starting again after quarantine, some tips I can give students who are trying to balance school, Key Club, and any other extracurriculars is that you need to manage and use your time wisely. It is easier for some students than others just because some people procrastinate and wait till the last minute to do something rather than doing it early or on their free time. It is hard to balance school, Key Club, and other outside and in school extracurriculars activities if you are lazy and not passionate about it. Also, if you are taking hard classes in your high school years such as Pre-Ap or Ap classes, it can be even more difficult but it is still possible to balance it if you are committed and passionate about it. During my freshmen year of high school, I joined a lot of in school clubs to make new friends, have fun in and outside of school, have experience about clubs, build my resume, and to improve my communication and leadership skills. I still somehow managed to take Pre-Ap classes, play tennis, join clubs, and have a life outside of school. Another tip I can give is to hangout with friends who are positive and who motivate you to be the best version of yourself, instead of hanging out with people who are negative all the time and are a bad influence on you. You can go to club meetings with them and make more friends while volunteering, going to socials, making high school memories and experiencing new things for the first time. I also joined many clubs during my sophomore and junior year of high school and that is where I made so many amazing friends, who I am still friends with to this day, in my senior year. I am so glad I joined these clubs and made friends who encouraged and motivated me to go to club socials, volunteer opportunities, and club meetings throughout my four years of high school, and all I can say it that I could not have done it without them, the club sponsors, and the amazing officers. After being a part of Key Club and many other clubs, I would encourage everyone to join clubs in their four years of high school. -By Eshal Mitha
