HIV Third Biggest Killer Of South Africans T he Mortality and Causes of Death Report has shown that HIV has risen to be the third leading cause of death in the country, with tuberculosis remaining the number one killer in 2013, says Statistics South Africa (Stats SA). “An improvement in the reporting of HIV deaths has been seen,” Statistician General Pali Lehohla said on Tuesday at the release of the report. Lehohla explained that HIV had moved up the ladder to third place from occupying the seventh spot due to there being better reporting of deaths and not because there were more people dying from it. “When it moved to number three, it is not because HIV and Aids is an increasing cause of death. It’s just that the recording of it has actually improved,” he said. The data comes as South Africa commemorated World Aids Day on 1 December.
The report found that HIV affected more males in 2013 than females. The report, which is based on data collected by the Department of Home Affairs through the death registration system, found that the country reported 458 933 deaths in 2013. This was down from the 480 476 deaths recorded in 2012. “The number of people that are dying in South Africa has declined… over time,” said Lehohla. In 2013, tuberculosis remained the leading cause of death among South Africans, followed by influenza and pneumonia in the second and third spot respectively. Of the total 458 933 deaths reported, 23% of them were due to infectious and parasitic diseases and 25% were other diseases, while 17% of deaths were due to circulatory system diseases.
Gauteng MEC for Transport Ismail Vadi has announced that the prefeasibility study on extending routes for the Gautrain services has been completed.
underway and, subject to obtaining the necessary Treasury approvals, would lead to procurement in a phased manner of specific rail network extensions.
The pre-feasibility study was undertaken in parallel to the 25year Integrated Transport Master Plan (ITMP25), said the MEC responding to questions posed by the Gauteng Legislature during an oral reply session on Tuesday.
The feasibility study is expected to be completed in November 2015.
“Briefly stated, the outcomes of the ITMP25 are eight mutually supportive strategic interventions of which two are that the passenger rail network must be reinforced as the backbone of the public transport system in Gauteng. “The short term initiatives include carrying out the feasibility studies for the extension of the Gautrain system; this is currently being done. The pre-feasibility study developed some rail route options at a high level,” MEC Vadi said. The MEC explained that the extensions to the rail network in Gauteng have been registered as a potential public-private-partnership with the Provincial and National Treasuries. This regulated process sets out stages of feasibility studies and procurements with approvals required from the relevant Treasuries. He said the feasibility study was
With deaths caused by accidents in the country, Limpopo province had the highest at 30.6% followed by the Northern Cape at 24.1%. Gauteng province had the lowest number at 3.6%. Additionally, transport accidents which led to death were reported to occur mostly in June and December. The Northern Cape recorded the highest number of assault related deaths as a percentage of nonnatural deaths at 23.1%. The report also found that 44.2% of South Africans die in hospitals while 23.2% die at home. The death registration of adults in South Africa was at 94%. – SAnews.gov.za

for men was above 60% in the 20 24 age group, while the percentage of deaths due to injuries among women peaked at 28%.
Regarding the pricing of Gautrain tickets, MEC Vadi said this was regulated in terms of the concession agreement, which requires the general use of CPI index for fare increases. “Exceptions to this are routes where fares are changed to increase or manage demand for the services. The Gautrain Management Agency fulfils this function on behalf of the province,” he said. The improvements to the airline online check in systems and the streamlining of check-ins at the OR Tambo Airport have reduced the immediate demand for separate check-in facilities at the Gautrain Sandton Station. This situation will be monitored and if necessary such facilities could be provided at a later stage, he said. He further said that the Gautrain bus services were used to convey rail passengers to and from the Gautrain stations. To the extent that other transport modes, and specifically, municipal buses and BRT systems develop on the same routes, the Gautrain bus services will be withdrawn and redeployed in areas to develop new markets of Gautrain users. – SAnews.gov.za
New Tembisa Police Station Maintains Law And Order A new police station that has been built in Tembisa is making the township’s residents feel safe and secure. It has also made the officers who work tirelessly to fight crime there accessible to the community, writes Nosihle Shelembe. With 138 dedicated staff members, the police station has been making life difficult for criminals. And Station Commander Colonel Samuel Maredi says gone are the days when criminals took advantage of the community because there was only one police station in the whole of Tembisa. The Tembisa South Police Station, which was opened by Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko, was built to assist the old police station which could no longer deal with the volume of complaints it received from the community. The state-of-the-art building, which is located in the Ethafeni Section, provides its services to more than 280 000 people. Even though it has only been six months since its doors opened, the impact of the police station has been felt by the community. Colonel Maredi says his officers are dedicated members who are always ready to go beyond the call of duty to serve the community. “My staff knows what is expected of them. They are not people who need to be pushed,” he says.
Crimes that are mostly reported at the police station include house robberies, house breakings, business robbery, rape, assault and murder. Colonel Maredi says the police station has a number of programmes aimed at fighting crime. As South Africa marks the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children, the police station embarked on what it called Operation Basadi (women). The programme is aimed at creating awareness about the abuse of women and children in communities. Police officers visit churches and squatter camps to encourage people to report cases of rape. “It [Operation Basadi] also empowers the community members by informing them what they can do when they find themselves in an abusive relationship,” Colonel Maredi says. Colonel Maredi, who joined the police force in 1987, had worked at a number of police stations, in different townships throughout his career. He was awarded the rank of a Colonel in 2004. His belief is that to fight crime, it’s important for police to maintain a good working relationship with the community.
“As a police officer you need to commit yourself to the community and you will enjoy the work. If you distance yourself from the community you will never win the trust of the community.” When speaking to SAnews, residents of Tembisa commended the men and women in blue who have dedicated their lives to fighting crime in the township. Deputy Secretary of the Community Policing Forum Francina Sibambo says she had a good working relationship with the police at the station. “Having a police station in our area has made me feel secured. There’s a difference in the community, I feel safe,” Sibambo says. Another resident, Angel Mazibuko says she was happy that a police station was built at her door step and has made her life easier. Mazibuko commended the staff at the police station for being helpful and responsive. Moses Resky thinks that crime will decrease in the area because of the new police station. “I feel safe…it’s my first time coming here but the service was good. The police are attending to my case,” Resky says after his visit to the station. – SAnews.gov.za

A Date With God We All Have Our Seasons....
W
e all have our seasons, We all have our times, as I once said when it is summer this side it is winter in another country. In other words this year was a good year for others because they bought cars, got married, got a baby, bought a house, got a promotion, but what ever happened it brought a smile on their faces, must have been their summer, while that was happening others lost their love once, lost their cars, lost their jobs, lost their money, lost their houses etc, and at the end it brought tears to their eyes. It does not mean it is over with anybody but it means that seasons change, but wait upon the Lord to renew your strength, because his thoughts are not your thoughst and his ways are not your ways.
Do not try to fight on your own, yes you tried and you failed like an athlete who was running 100m and fell, but the important thing is that we are all running the race so do no stop running. Maybe your season is not exactly in January but it begins in March, so pay attention to your life as your season might also be starting now! You might miss it, if you are too busy with other people's business. Leave what others are doing even to you and focus on what God wants to do for you. Remember you will never do good in every person's life, others will still complain and others will be happy with your actions. This festive season I would like to tell those who were in and out of season that God loves us all. God
cares for us all that is why we should wait upon the Lord. He knows what to do and he will answer always just in time, do not give up! Some of us have been through trials but instead of giving up, we are thanking God and saying "Lord even if I did not run the race as I expected to, but you are still my God" have that attitude of thanking him, if you think you have problems ask your neighbour and you will see that your problems are just a stone compared to your neighbour’s mountain! You will begin to thank God for the small problems you have. People have serious problems than you think, but it is up to you how you want to handle your problems. If I were you I would give it to God, he is already carrying the weight of the
world upon his shoulders, I know that your problem is nothing to God. In conclusion: there is a time for everything, your turn is coming. Thank you Khanyisa Newspaper for being our light this year, for being our eye, May God bring a good season for you again, may He opens more doors for you so that you continue to be the light. Thank you to everyone who took his/ her time to read Khanyisa Newspaper, those who wrote to me, my family, friends, Khanyisa Team, Mayors and their teams in the different Municipalities, different companies and stakeholders, Churches, Mr Moyo and your team, I would like to wish you ALL a marry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Hope And A Future Deuteronomy 15:1-2(msg) “At the end of every seventh year, cancel all debts. This is the procedure: Everyone who has lent money to a neighbour writes it off. You must not press your neighbour or his brother for payment: AllDebts-Are-Cancelled- God says so.” Praise God for bringing us through the year 2014. Many of us welcomed the prophetic Word that was shared in the beginning and we saw just how it was a year full of the Favour of God. Someone may be saying, but things didn't go my way. But then praise God that you are still standing. Know that when you feel like things have come to a complete full stop in your life, it means that God is about to start a whole new sentence for you. As the year 2014 comes to an end, we make way for the year 2015. It is going to be the YEAR OF
RELEASE! That means that whatever the enemy has been using against you as a form of debt; it has to be cancelled next year. Why? Because Our Heavenly Father has said so.
that people perish for lack of knowledge; if you do not know that you are supposed to be free, then you will continue being a slave to your bad habits, addiction or generational curses.
It is said that torment is replaying your past mistakes and hurt over and over in your mind. Maybe you have been replaying just how much your family is bound and that things are not going your way. Maybe you have been under bondage for such a long time and haven't been able to find a good job, or start a family; please do NOT give up.
But praise God for Khanyisa Newspaper. You are holding this right now and receiving this powerful Word. Claim it and share it. You are free, 2015 is your year for freedom. It doesn't matter how deep and dark the secret is that kept you back all these year; it is your time to come and start a new life in Christ.
2015 is the year for release. Start declaring that right now for yourself and over every area of your life. Declare the Release of God over your health, your finances, your family, your career, etc. We need to be in agreement with what He is doing. Remember
I don't know about you, but I want my Heavenly Father to break the chains and set me free. I want to be a part of the life of abundance that Christ Jesus died for. All you need to do is to receive by faith and walk into it. It is the time to stop being an orphan in the Kingdom and start being a child of the Most
High God. Our Father loves us very much and is willing to break the chains and set us free. Are you willing to be free? There is so much that may have discouraged you this year. Maybe you lost a loved one, or you lost a job and things just fell a apart. Child of God know that when you hit rock bottom, you will see that Christ Jesus is The Rock at the bottom waiting to push you back up. He is the Rock of Ages. Whatever the enemy thought was supposed to kill and defeat you this year didn't work. You have come this far, do not give up! Let us embrace this coming New Year of Release. Blessings and Shalom to you and your family this Christ-season. May Christ be the centre of you celebrations and journeys.
Remember Madiba President Jacob Zuma has thanked South Africans for the “profound and dignified” send-off the nation accorded former President Nelson Mandela, ahead of the first anniversary of his passing. South Africa will on Friday commemorate a year since the death of the first President of a democratic South Africa. Madiba passed away at his home in Houghton, Johannesburg on 5 December last year. “People from all over the world joined South Africans in mourning the passing of one of the greatest statesman ever produced by Africa. The world converged in our country
and joined us as we bid farewell to this remarkable global statesman. “As we remember Madiba this week, let us do so through recommitting ourselves to advancing his vision of unity, reconciliation, global peace, development, prosperity and a better life for all South Africans,” said President Zuma on Monday. Various activities have been planned for the first anniversary, including an interfaith memorial service at Freedom Park in Pretoria. This will be officiated by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa. The Nelson Mandela Centre will also hold a Nelson Mandela Condolence Books Exhibition on 4 December,
officiated by the Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor.
