'Daiji Anniversary’, a high-profile and professionally managed entertainment programme, is considered one of the prestigious Konkani events, patronized by a large audience every year. During the event, the Daiji Lifetime Achievement Award – ‘Daiji Dubai Gulf Samaj Rathn Puraskar-2025’ will be presented to Michael D’SouzaDubai andFelixLobo Doha Qatar, two acclaimed Konkani personalities who have served the KonkanilanguageintheGulfregion and supported Konkani artistes,
culture and programmes selflessly.
Michael DʼSouza
Michael D’Souza was born on July 12, 1952, in Puttur, Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka. Hewas theeighthof13siblings,borntothe late Antony and Mary D’Souza. He married Flavia, who has been his strongsupportandlifeline,standing by him in all his business and philanthropic decisions. They have
three children: Rochelle, Nisha, and Adrian (fondlycalled‘Manu’).
When discussing philanthropy in theGulfRegionandMangaluru,one name that often comes up is Michael D’Souza of Puttur, now settled in Abu Dhabi. He is known for donating generously to various causes, whether it’s organizing a Konkani program, publishing a book or CD, building a house of God, or setting up an educational fund. However, he always insists thathisnameremainanonymous in hischaritableendeavours.
Michael often says, “God has granted me more than I deserve, anditismyresponsibility toshareit with those in need.” He donated Rs 25 crore to the Educare Fund, managed by CODP (Canara Organisation for Development and Peace) under the Diocese of Mangalore. Additionally, he contributed Rs 10 crore to a selfhelp fund, also managed by CODP and supervised by a committee of financialandsociocultural experts.
Michael D’Souza is a key supporter of cultural programs, especially those held in Dubai, whether in Konkani or Tulu. He also supports writers, poets, lyricists, and
filmmakers through his initiative, ‘MichaelD’SouzaVision Konkani’. FelixLobo
Felix Lobo was born on April 24, 1955, toCasmirandPaulineLoboin Vittal, Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka. He wasthe eighth of 14 siblings. Felix has been married to Stephany, who has played an enormous role in his success. She has been his friend, guide, and strength, andheattributes muchof hisachievementstoherunwavering support. The couple, fondly known as ‘Dattu and Voni’ among their familyandfriends, hastwochildren, Freeda andFloyd.
FelixLobohasbeenaunifyingforce fortheKonkanicommunityinDoha, Qatar. He served as former presidentofMangaloreCricketClub and the founder member of Mangalore Cultural Association, both affiliated with the Indian Embassy. Felix has been actively involved in church activities, including the new church building project inDoha.
Felix moved to Qatar in 1976 and served on the advisory committee of the Indian Embassy, Qatar, from 2002 to 2006. He has helped hundreds of Mangalureans secure
jobs in the Gulf and is the first person that comes to mind when any Mangalurean in Doha needs help. He believes that having been blessedwithagoodlife,itishisduty toservemankind.
For his exemplary service to the Mangalurean community, Felix has received numerous awards from both Indian and international organizations. He has risen from humble beginnings to establish Qatar Meta Coats WLL, providing employment to hundreds of Mangalurean and supporting their families. Felix has also organized manymegaKonkanieventsinDoha, offering a platform to Konkani artists from India and across the Gulf. The proceeds from these events have been sent to support various causes in Mangaluru and othercities.

Performing at the event will be Jason Lobo, runner-up of Mojo TaaloGaitaloandSoad5,andSonal Agnes Monteiro, winner of Soad 5, alongside Sanjay Rodrigues, a renowned music director and broadcast engineer, who heads Daijiworld Audio Visual Pvt Ltd. Sanjay, affectionately known as Sanju Baba, has orchestrated many successful musical shows in Mangaluru and beyond and will be flyinginfromMangalurutoworkhis magic on the keyboard for this show.

The famous artist and teacher in Aloysius High John Chandran who drew his caricature as many famouspersonalities were honoured with, mentioned, affection, sincerity and integrity were Ajja's forte to popularity; he added Ajja's attire (White dhoti, kurta and Gandhi cap) was his trademark and Ajja's caricature went viral on social media. The College presented aframedcopyof it to Ajja a few months back. Prof Bilu S Nair, a former student and founder/Principal of an MBA College in Bengaluru posted a tribute to'Ajja’,He wasour Zomato
and Swiggy to generations of students in this College. Ajja's big day was during Gandhi Jayanti in 2010, when he gave a talk on Mahatma Gandhi on FM Community Radio Sarang that transmits from the College Campus.

Monti Fest celebration is unique to Mangalorean community. There was general Holy Eucharist, where the MKCA members and guests attended. The first and second readings at the Mass were readbythemembers ofMKCA.
The Cultural program was initiated
by the welcome note from the President of MKCA, Leonard Lobo. In his welcome address, he introduced hisExecutiveCommittee to the audience and recognized their contributions for the success of the programs conducted. He
narrated the history of MKCA, who Dr. Austin Prabhu, Founder President of MKCA pioneered the work on formation of MKCA along with other founder members of the Association. He briefed the audience how this feast celebrated back in India. The Compeer of the program, Savio Pais, current
Secretary initiated the cultural program withgamestothechildren and adults. He introduced and thanked the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Tom Abraham for his generosity in providing thevenue.
Savio Pais thanked all the organizing committee for their relentless support in thesuccess of the program. He recognized the efforts of the members and their family in preparing great variety of Mangalorean ethnic food for the program and recognized the members and guests who contributed totheprogram.
Fr. Tom Abraham blessed the food prepared by the members and guests of MKCA. Theprogram was culminated with sumptuous ethnic dinner. Under effective DJing by Queenie Mendonca, the audience enjoyed the dance to the tunes of Konkani, HindiandSpanishsongs.

After the meals, the games and entertainmentsessions werecarried on by Teena. Father Jasper also addressed the gathering and congratulated each and everyone fortheirsincereeffortsinorganizing the Monti Fest celebrations in a place likeregina inCanada faraway from home and urged the KKR to conduct such traditional events every year. Known for his powerful advocacy and expertise in combating human labor trafficking, HaroldD’Souzawasinvitedtospeak on the pressing challenges, gaps, and barriers within the global fight against human trafficking. This event, held at the University of Akron on August 30th and September 3rd, 2024, drew attention from both local and international audiences, reinforcing Global Ties, Akron’s commitment to building bridges between Ohio and theworld.
Harold D’Souza, a former victim of
labor trafficking, is now a leading global voice on human rights and anti-trafficking initiatives. During the event, Linda Powers, Legal Director – Ohio Human Trafficking Initiative, at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office under Dave Yost, formally invited D’Souza to Global Ties Leaders Meeting. Harold
D’Souza serves as the Ambassador Advisory Council Member at the Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost Office. Powers praised D’Souza's invaluable contributions to the human trafficking awareness landscape. Ceremony, organized by the Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit, was held on Sunday, 1st September, at 10 a.m. at the St. Lawrence English Medium School Auditorium. The programme commenced with a prayer hymn.
Mr Stephen D’Silva President Catholic Sabha welcomed all the guests on the dais and everyone who hadgathered. TheChief Guest and the members on the dais were
welcomed with a rose by the Catholic Sabha members. The program was inaugurated with a cake-cutting ceremony led by Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, who was joined on the dais by the other esteemed members.

The chiefguest ofthe program was Padmabhushan K. V. Kamath, the Chairman of the National Bank of Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID), analumnus of the University. Mr Kamath in his address sharedinsights drawn from his extensive experience in the banking and financial sectors. He spoke about overcoming life’s
constraints and how embracing challenges can lead to transformation. Heemphasized that success often requires thinking laterally tofindinnovative solutions and encouraged students to allow ideas to flow freely. Drawing on his experience with BRICSandthe New Development Bank, he highlighted the importance of understanding diverse cultures and adapting to change. Mr. Kamath advised the students that tenacity and a willingness tofacechallenges headon are key to reaching greater heights inlife.

Mr Kamath hails from the town of Kundapur. After matriculation, he

September 7 at their prominent Konkan Bhavan, Vijayanagar 2nd Stage, Mysuru. Theceremonial servicecommenced with the offering of flowers to the
InfantMarybytheAssembly andFr Prashanth Noronha blessed the
sheaves of grain which were brought in procession for the
Mass. The main celebrant was Fr Archibald Gonsalves, vicar
provincial of Karnataka and Goa Carmelite Province along with 12
other priests from different denomination concelebrated the High Mass with great enthusiasm, zeal and fervor. In his homily, Fr Praveen Aranha highlighted the graces of Blessed Mary, to emulate herexampleandtotreatourmother withrespect,dignity andhonour. At theendoftheceremony,sheavesof grain were distributed to the congregation simultaneously the traditional payasa(vorn) wasserved asasymboloftheharvestfeast.

MCAS Celebrates Monti Fest
2024 in Sydney Australia.
For theMangalorean community in Sydney it was nostalgia and tradition galore. In the sunshine, spring warmth, the communal joy was multiplied when over 300 members of allages celebrated the FeastoftheNativity(Monti Fest)on Sunday September 8, organized by the Mangalorean Catholic Association of Sydney (MCAS) Inc. The event was held atthe spacious Roselea Community Centre in Beecroft.
The warmth of the day was generous, and the day began with thetraditionalshowering offlowers. Children assembled atthestatueof
the infant Mary, eagerly preparing to offer flowers they had lovingly collectedintheirplatesandbaskets.
Fr Valerian D’Souza, who had traveled from Newcastle to honor the occasion, led the prayers inKonkani. The excitement among the children and the crowd was palpable asthe statue of the infant Mary was enveloped in a vibrant array of colors while thechoir sang
the hymns 'Sekkad Sangantha Melyan' and 'Moriek Hogolsian' withreverentgusto. Thecongregation procession ledto the Holy Mass with the altar was magnificently adorned, and the grotto of Mother Mary was gracefully decorated with flowers, palms,andsugarcane.Thereadings werepresentedinbothKonkaniand English, and the Prayers of the Faithfulwerebytheyoungadultsof the community. Fr Valerian delivered apowerful anduplifting
sermon, emphasizing the key virtues of Mother Mary humility, faith, obedience, prayer, purity, charity, and patience. The choir made theatmosphere uplifting; the children’s choirconcluded theMass
with a beautiful rendition of 'Maria Mai Kurpechi', creating a moving moment.
Later the festivities got underway withcolorandbuzzingenergy. The community celebration began with a group welcome song; MCAS
president Rowena Sequeira addressed the gathering with heartfeltgratitude, reflectingonthe community’s support over the past 17 years and acknowledging the efforts of former presidents and executivecommittee members. She
also expressed appreciation for the generosity ofsponsorsandthehard work of volunteers who came forward to cook up a feast, set up thehall,servefood,andcontributed
immensely totheday'ssuccess.The cultural items started with an energetic Mando performance by severalmembers ofthecrowd, then thechildren’s dancewasathrill.The segment concluded with the presentation ofgiftsandcertificates of appreciation to the participating children. Monti Fest. A humorous Konkani skitwasperformed whichwasfullof
life and laughter. A trivia challenge on the online platform booklet, testing their knowledge of Mangalorean traditions.
The lunch banquet, tastefully arranged by Michael Fernandes together with a large, dedicated team of volunteers, along with two professional chefs, was a culinary triumph. The menu began with enticing appetizers, including chili chicken, fish Amritsari, and cocktail samosas. For the main course, guests enjoyed a rich buffet selection of traditional Mangalorean specialties, such as sannas, pork bafat, chicken curry, channa, vegetable sambar, and karamb, accompanied by jeera rice, salad, pickle and papads (pappde). The meal was perfectly rounded off with a delectable vermicelli kheer, providing a sweet and satisfying conclusion to the feast.
Lunchwasfollowed byalivelyraffle and the traditional housie, both of which were met with great enthusiasm from the crowd. The celebration wrapped up with the traditional, vibrant Baila music, bringing the event to a lively close. The MCAS Monti Fest 2024 was a tremendous success, rekindling cherished memories of Nativity celebrations at home in Mangalore. The event was a testamenttotheinvaluablesupport

Bengaluru Aug 20, 2024: Robert Cutinha was re-elected as the Chairman of the Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA) during the 27th Annual General Body meeting, which took place on Aug 18th at Konkan Samudhai Bhavan, Bengaluru. The
program saw the participation of over 100 representatives.
The event began with Holy Mass, concelebrated byFr. MaximDiasof BellaryDioceseandwhopresentlyis the Karnataka Regional Secretary for the Commissions of Proclamation and Basic Ecclesial Communities together with Rev. Dr FrancisAssisiAlmeida,Spiritual
Director of FKCA. The liturgy arrangements and choir wereorganised beautifully by Konkani Catholic Association, Mathikere, Konkani Catholic Sangh, Yeshwanthpur and KONCAB. The AGM then commenced with an
opening prayer by Rev Dr Francis AssisiAlmeida.
Robert Cutinha welcomed the gathering. He briefly spoke about his satisfaction and joy over the variousachievementsofthe
Federation over the year especially five new associations joining as affiliates and the day-long successful celebration of the Federation Day. He thanked the associations fortheirgreat support, the office bearers for their many

Rev Dr Francis Assisi Almeida was honoured on the occasion for successfully obtaining his PhD on
his thesis on Article 30 of the Constitution of India onthesubject – Minority Educational Institutions in the Era of Privatization.
The Federation recognised and honoured the great philanthropic initiatives of Silvian Noronha, ImmediatePast Chairman of FKCA
and his multiple initiatives to provide relief to the needy and deserving inmyriad ways.
