Next up I attended the one-year anniversary of the Chicago Health Care Alliance Lions Club. This electric event was so much fun!

Club President Lea Agaton put together a fabulous anniversary celebration with music, dancing, awards, induction of new officers, newmembersandpurefellowship! Congratulationsonanotheryearof success!

I then hopped in my golf cart and drove straight over to Silver Lakes Golf Course for the 76th Annual Harry Barber District 1-A Golf Outing! The weather was perfect, and it was so great to see Lions from not just our district but Lions from surrounding districts visiting andsupportingourday.Thankyou to the Golf Committee led by GovernorBrendaandAlanStevens.

All the hard work paid off tremendously and brought a very

successful day of fun, fundraising andfellowship.Ispoketosponsors and friends of the Lions, and they allhadnothingbutstellarfeedback for us. They are looking forward to continuingtoattendintheyearsto come.

Finally, I rushed over to O’Hare airport to catch a plane to Detroit to visit Leader Dogs for the Blind. This was truly a great experience for me as I was able to visit the facility, listen in, and partake in the wealth of information provided. Being able to see how these dogs are raised, trained and finally partnered with someone in need was very impactful for me. My takeaway was how much we truly take not only sight but managing our daily lives for granted and oftenneverrealizethetremendous feats those who are visually impaired are able to overcome withtheseLeaderdogcompanions. IlearnedsomuchthatI’mgoingto be able to apply it in my everyday life and I’m very grateful to have had that experience.

Wrapping up August, we’re continuing to focus on training for our Region/Zone Chairs in accordance with Governor

Brenda’s Goals of having at minimum 70% having attended and trained at the training event on August 26, 2024, at Zazzo’s Pizza. This training is being led by GLT Carol Burke-Hallberg, SVDG Ben Zoleta and myself.

Global Membership Approach

As of Sept. 1st , numbers we sit at a plus for members for the Year. We have seventeen clubs adding 42 members and eleven clubs dropping 45 and one club reinstating 7 members. This starts us on two months of positive membership growth. It also is a fast start for clubs adding members, Governor Brenda is asking that each club do their best in adding members to your club.

MemberSatisfaction

Here are a few tips that will help you get started in defining member satisfaction in your club:

• Ask your members! Members feel involved when you ask for their opinions. Ask your members: Why is the club here? Do our activities demonstrate this? If a non-Lion looked at one year of our events, what would they think is essential to our club? o You can use the Member Questionnaire at the back of this guide to facilitate this conversation and modify it to fit your needs.

• Assess why your members have left in the past. While there are some common themes worldwide, it will help if you contact former members to learn why they left. Along with the New Member Questionnaire in this guide, there is a Former Member Questionnaire that you can modify to fit your needs. o Consider devoting time during a club meeting or holding a special meeting to discuss member satisfaction.

• Carefully consider whether your club’s stated objectives, goals and mission statement reflect what your current members want your club to be.

NewClub Development &ClubRebuilding

We are in talks with four areas of our District to open new clubs.

As always, please contact out team if you have a group or area that you believe would continue to move our District forward in positive membership growth and more service to area underserved.

DearLionLeader,

Thank you for choosing to be a leader in our global service team.

The Service Journey is our approach to living and serving well. To making a real difference people can see and feel through four steps: Learn, Discover, Act and Celebrate. Our Service Journey webpage contains many resources to support you throughout the journey:

• Learn about the needs of your community and the larger world, including information about our global causes with new resources for childhood cancer, diabetes, environment and hunger.

• Discover the Service Toolkit to help activate your club for greater impact, includingQuick Start Service Ideas , theClubandCommunity Needs Assessmentand theDeveloping Local Partnershipsguide.

• Act to fill humanitarian needs with ideas from our Service Project Planners, including the customizableServing Your Causeplanner for any service activity.

• Celebrate by sharing your service experience andthebenefitsprovidedwithyourcommunity and with the global community of Lions by reporting your service.

A great way to celebrate last year’s service is to nominate your club for the Kindness Matters Service Award. This prestigious award is given annually to Lion andLeo clubs for exceptionally innovative service projects with long-term, positive impact. And you, as a Global Service Team leader, are key to the award process:

1.Club service chairpersons send a nomination form to their district GST.

2.District GST coordinators forward one nomination from their districts to their multiple district GST.

3.Multiple district GST coordinators forward one nomination from their multiple districts to international headquarters.

4.The Lions International Service Activities Committee selects the winning clubs. WehopetheServiceJourneyapproach leads to many celebrations of service this year. If you have any questions, please contact us by email at serviceactivities@lionsclubs.org.
