DECEMBER 2021 ==================================================================================================
Hello District 1-A Lions,
I began writing this article on the plane ride to Phoenix, but continued writing it on my sons’ patio where the weather is a balmy 77 degrees sipping on a cup of coffee. Hope your Thanksgiving was a happy one for all of you and you were able to spend time with your family and friends. I thought I would provide you with a recap of the state of the District. We continue to be a plus in membership (+42). However, this number changes minute by minute. 58% of our clubs are reporting their service activities. This is an indication that our clubs are back out in the communities doing their work.
We currently have 17 clubs who have made donations to LCIF. However, after the LCIF raffle, I expect our numbers to increase to 35 clubs, which is 50% of our clubs. We are in the process of chartering a new club KOPE Cyber Lions of District 1-A, sponsored by the Calumet City Lions Club. Additionally, a new Leo Club is also in the process of being chartered Reavis High School Leo club, sponsored by the Burbank Lions club. Watch for more information in the near future. Retention is an ongoing battle; the December drops are upon us……...we need your help. Please reach out to Lions in your club, who you haven’t seen for a while. Lions need to feel engaged and reaching out to them may relight their passion. We continue to look for a Second Vice District Governor. Are you interested? Please reach out to me.

In addition, we are looking for VOICES candidates and a LIF Trustee. Maybe it’s time for you to take the challenge. Currently, we have 4 clubs who have not paid their District dues. We continue to request payment. Unfortunately, we will implement in January a new process to place clubs on financial suspension for not paying their District /state dues with LCI And now we entering the Holiday season, Hanukkah starts November 29th, and Christmas the 25th and Kwanzaa the 26th. And of course, our Lions clubs are all busy helping others. I hope you will be able to join the District Christmas Party December 12, 2021 at Orland Chateau in Orland Park from 12-5. We have a few surprises planned. And don’t forget to bring toys for the kids in the Hospitals.
PDG Terry D’Souza is back home after a short stay in the hospital and in the rehab. Please take a moment to send them all a card to brighten their day. If I have missed anyone else, that’s because I am unaware of any other Lions who are ill. Finally, PCC Steve & myself would like to wish you and your families a beautiful Holiday season, no matter what Holiday you celebrate. And here’s to a New Year full of Love and Kindness for all. Be Safe, Be Smart & Be Kind!
Let’s not forget some special Lions…… First Lady Marlene Jachim who passed away recently. I personally will always remember her humor and kindness to me when Lion Steve was FVDG. PDG Wes Salsbury is in rehab and recovering from surgery.

Let’s work together and keep the momentum going. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to grow your clubs while people are itching to get involved and make a difference after being locked down and isolated far too long. The more members we can add to our clubs, the more hands to provide the needed service. New Club Development We are in the process of developing a specialty club in the south suburbs, the K.O.P.E. Cyber Lions Club of District 1-A, (Knights of Prevention & Education), their mission to become a virtual village that raises the next generation so that they make responsible decisions, value service learning, and lead healthy drug free lives. So, if you have a friend or neighbor working as a Teacher, Social Workers, in Law Enforcement, in Drug Enforcement, or with Drug Education Organizations than they might have an interest in being part of this opportunity to join with this club. IF you know anyone living in our District that might have an interest in being a Charter member of this club, please email me their information or have them contact me at: jointhelionstoday@gmail.com Please let us know if you have an area, you believe would make a good club. A key indicator is your club is providing a lot of service to an open area.

Membership Satisfaction – Leadership Support Make sure we’re serving our communities again. Reach out to the members that left Lions because they didn’t want to pay dues and not meet or do anything. Lions around the country are reporting they are having success by reaching out to their past members and are bringing them back. Into their membership rolls. One thing for sure, if you don’t ask, they are gone. Keep your social media active and up to date, the community watches you post more than you think.
