Happy Holidays!
2 The Illinois Lion & Leo
“We Serve" Council Chair Lori J. Chassee: Lions, I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am sure that you are very busy preparing for all of the holidays to come, and I wish you and your families nothing but the best. In addition to being the month of holidays, December also represents the closing of the first half of our Lions year. It is time to take stock. How are we doing? Are we making progress on our goals for our clubs, our district and our multiple district? Goals are a funny thing. Many of us make them with the best of intentions, and then life gets in the way. Without purposefully taking steps to reach our goals, they are likely not to come to fruition. So take a few moments to review and
ask yourself some questions- have we taken the steps we intended to move forward? Are the steps that we have taken effective? Are they helping us progress to our desired results? Have we left the action steps to others and failed to check in with them? How are they doing? Do they need additional resources or support? Once we ring in the new year, we will have six months to achieve our goals. Make sure you are making best use of that time. Keep your eye on the target and your feet moving in the direction that you want to go. Make use of all that Lions has to offer to improve your skill set and provide you tools and resources that will help you get to where you’re going. We have some tremendous upcoming events, the State Convention May 17-19 watch for more details! Don’t forget to start planning for the exciting trip to Melbourne, Australia for the
3 The Illinois Lion & Leo
International Convention. If it is something you can do I highly recommend it should be beautiful and exciting. Whether you will be celebrating Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Christmas in the coming weeks. Blessings to you
and your family. Have a wonderful and safe holiday season. Continue to be the best Lions you can be! Blessings to you and yours, Lori J. Chassee Council Chair MD 1 c: 630-740-5670

Season’s Greetings Lions of MD-1. We have made it through the first half of this Lion’s year with several things accomplished but so much more that needs to be done. By this time most everyone has had zone chair training and possibly some officer training. Has your District GLT reported this training activity in Learn? Reporting training events in Learn is very simple and necessary to track for the goals that
have been set by your district. District GLT’s just log into your member portal and go to the Learn tab in the portal. From here you will be able to manage your training events with either reporting on a training that has already been completed or set up a training event that will happen in the future. If you need assistance in reporting, please contact me for more information. We can jump on a zoom, and I can walk you through this easy process. Reporting our events has always been a weak spot that we will work on together to make it happen. Once we get past the holidays, we will be rushing our way through the last half of the year. CHICAGO, IL- In an inspiring display of unity and environmental consciousness, 300 young
individuals from various parts of the United States came together to collaborate with the Indo-US Lions HI INDIA NEWS DESK on a remarkable recycling initiative. This joint effort aimed to address the pressing issue of waste

management while fostering teamwork and raising environmental awareness among the youth. The project revolved around recycling, a crucial aspect of sustainable living. Participants ranged in age from elementary school students to young adults, showcasing the diverse demographic of this remarkable endeavor. The collaboration between American youth and the Indo-US Lions team brought a unique cultural blend to the project. The 300 young participants were divided into smaller teams, each responsible for specific aspects of recycling. These teams were formed based on age groups and interests, ensuring that every participant could contribute effectively. Numerous recycling stations were established at key locations, such as schools, parks, and community centers, to facilitate the collection and segregation of recyclable materials. Each station was equipped with bins and educational materials to guide people on what could and couldn’t be recycled. Education played a pivotal role in this initiative. Workshops and
seminars were organized to educate both the participants and the community about the importance of recycling and its positive impact on the environment. Visual aids, presentations, and hands-on activities were used to make learning engaging and accessible to all. The collaboration with the Indo-US Lions team brought an international perspective to the project. Cultural exchanges and discussions allowed participants to gain a broader understanding of environmental issues and solutions across borders. This recycling initiative has left a lasting impact on the community and participants alike. Plans are in place to make this an annual event, with hopes of expanding its reach and impact in subsequent years. It has set a powerful example of how young people can come together, transcend cultural boundaries, and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future. ---------------------------------------

DG Larry conducted the meeting. The host club was Christopher Lions with Du Quoin Lions attending. One club chose not to participate. The Christopher Lions Club reported they had just sponsored a fall parade. Due to rain, it had to be rescheduled and several bands then had conflicts for the rain date. Still, they called it a success by the community’s support. The club held a chicken and dumpling lunch. They also held a pancake breakfast. Both were considered successful. The club has a recycling program. They collect cans and when the trailer is full, it Is taken to the recycling center. The club reported they have a potential new member who is to attend their next meeting. The Du Quoin Lions Club is conducting a raffle to help offset the cost of food baskets. The club also has business donors. The baskets contain food products and are delivered to needy families in the area. An average of 120 food baskets are delivered annually. This event is the club’s biggest service activity. Many citizen volunteers help prepare these baskets and

deliver them. Because of the volunteer involvement, several participants have asked about joining the club. DG Larry then spoke to the clubs about his goals for District 1CS. They are to maintain membership, do at least one community service project, find new leaders for our district cabinet, and support LCIF. ---------------------------------------
