Happy March……….Spring is coming…I Hope!!!

MD-1 continues to be a positive in Membership and is also in 2nd place for membership growth in Constitutional Area 1 (US & Caribbean). Kudos to all the MD-1 Lions for their continued hard work. Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going.

What to write about this month????? I was reading the current Lions Magazine and was pleasantly surprised to read the following clubs have sent some updates about their club activities.

1. Aurora Noon Lion donated 1800 bottles of water to the Wayside Cross Ministries

2. Elburn Lions host a free community spaghetti dinner on the fourth Tuesday of every month.

3. Glen Ellyn Lions helped support the Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center Thanksgiving celebration at two elementary schools serving food.

4. Mendota Lions Club hosted a fishing rodeo for children ages 3 to 15 at Lake

Mendota

5. Freeport Lions Club delivered a dozen roses to lucky recipients. Lions sold tickets in advance for roses at $20 a dozen.

6. Buckley, Ashkum & Onarga Lions Club combined to sponsor a fundraiser featuring a dueling

piano group. Proceeds went to the Seeing Eye Dog Program

7. Germain Valley Lions had a DriveThru Fundraiser selling sandwiches, cookie and a drink. Have a story idea or photo? Contact

Leadership in the upcoming years. This program RLLI (Regional Lions Learning Institute) is taught each year usually in August. So how does this work? The incoming Governors are asked to provide the names of potential Lion leaders from their Districts to attend these classes, which are paid for by MD-1 and a grant from LCI. If you are interested please contact your incoming Governor.

lionsmagazine@lionsclub.org or at 630 468-6798. Share your club activities with the Lions from all over the world. You may even get a few ideas for service projects. Convention season is upon us, and I just returned from District 1-F’s convention. As always it was great to see old Lions friends but also to meet new Lions. District 1-F has been very successful with attracting new leadership. This past weekend, 2 of their incoming Officers were graduates of the RLLI program from two years ago. And they have 2 more RLLI graduates from this last class that was held in August, who will be stepping up to

District 1F also did a service project to help the people of Ukraine. They worked with Project C.U.R.E. This organization addresses the staggering shortage of medical resources around the world. They identify, solicit, collect, sort and distribute medical supplies according to the imperative needs of the world. If you like more information about this organization please contact them projectcure.org.

As I have said before the District conventions in MD-1 are always informative and YES, I had some fun along the way getting together with the Lions.

3 The Illinois Lion & Leo

Don’t forget the State convention is only 81 days away as of this writing. Registration is open. Please consider sending an Ad for the Ad book the deadline is March 3, 2022. Please bring items for the silent auction, proceeds go towards the costs of the convention.

Please keep PDG Barb Stewart our Convention Chair in your prayers, she will be going in for knee replacement surgery early in March but will be ready to run down the Yellow Brick Road in May. If you have any questions while she is out don’t hesitate to contact me or SST

Lions,

Itiswithaheavyheartthat I informyouofthepassingof PDG CarlHall,District1-E (now knownas1-M).

Mary.

As always, Thank you for all that each of you do as Lions, because without you then who would help our local communities?

Last but not least Congratulations to the Collinsville Noon Lions Club on their 100th Anniversary. And may the next 100 be even better!

Have a great month!!
