She passed at 11:38AM this morning. From DG Mark "I'm saddened but happy she's gone home. She's a believer and loved to volunteer. I cherish the years we were together. Thank you Jesus." Obituary for Larry Lee Mehring Larry Lee Mehring, 85, of Red Bud, IL, passed away on October 18, 2023 at Mercy South St. Louis. He was born July 16, 1938, in Red Bud, IL. On, May 17, 1958, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, IL. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Zipfel. To this union three daughters were born. They shared 65 years of marriage together. Larry owned and operated Mehring Advertising Company from 1973 until 2001. He was a member St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, IL, Red Bud Lion's Club and Knights of Columbus. When he was not working or spending time in his community he would be camping, fishing, bowling, doing jigsaw puzzles, traveling, and playing cards with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Mehring, his three daughters, Susan M (Perri) Mehring, Rhonda L. (David) Smith, and Theresa L. (Duane) Everding, his nine grandchildren, Scott (Kelly), Amanda (Patrick), Christopher (Erica), Mathew (Michelle), Landon (Whitney), Marissa, Tanner (Courtney), Kelly, and Eric, his twelve great-grandchildren, Abby, Sophia, Josie, Charlotte, Penelope, Harper, Hudson, Mason, Maddex, Marshall, Holly, and Lauren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Selma (Spier) Mehring, father, Walter Mehring, brother, Ronald (Frieda) Mehring, stepfather, George Mitchell, and grandparents, Charles, and Lena Spier. Toth, 79, of Tuscola, IL, passed away Friday afternoon, October 13, 2023. at the Newman Rehab and Health Care Center, Newman, IL Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL. A Vigil Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., CST, Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Vincennes, IN Sandor was born on October 26, 1943 in Beech Grove, IN, the son of Michael J. Toth, Jr. And Eloise Norton. He married Linda D. Hansen on October 14, 1966 in Vincennes, IN. They just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. She survives. Also surviving are his son: Paul Toth of Villa Grove, granddaughter: Abbigayle, brother: Mike Reese and many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents. Sandor worked as a machinist and retired from USI-Quantum Chemical Company in 2009 after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, Tuscola Moose Lodge and served as Past District Governor of the District 1M from Tuscola Lion’s Club. 6 The Illinois Lion & Leo


Sandor was very involved with the Tuscola Little League and Senior League Baseball Teams. He enjoyed hunting, watching Western’s, raising tomatoes, reading in general and reading about Hungarian history. He was an Indiana Basketball and St. Louis Cardinal’s fan. Memorials are suggested to the Douglas County Animal Shelter. Speaking of big learning events, registration is now open for the 2024 USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum to be held Sept. 5-7 in Louisville Kentucky. Go to www.lionsforum.org to register. This is well within driving distance for many of us in the state. Come and be a part of a truly amazing learning event. First and Second Vice District Governors, we are getting things ready for an incredible learning event for you all in preparation for your year as District Governor and 1st Vice Governor. Districts, if you have vacancies at any of these positions please do your best to get them filled before the holidays so that those folks do not miss out on

Labor Day Weekend our Club hosted the BINGO Tent at the Schaumburg Septermber-Fest. Mobile Screening Unit Schaumburg Township

1 in 5 residents have a hearing loss so our Lions Club help bring the Lion’s Foundation of Illinois Mobile Screening Unit to the Schaumburg Township. On September 14 we offered FREE hearing and vision screenings to individuals.

Congratulations to our final Cover All winner, taking home the $500 prize! Thank you to the Septemberfest Committee, our Bingo volunteers, and all the Bingo players who joined us this year. We had a ton of fun, gave out some great cash payouts, and most importantly - we raised the funds that will fuel our community service projects for the next year. We couldn't do it without you! --------------------------------------Our Lions Club participated in the Hoffman Estates National Night Out. We presented a check to the

Children’s Advocacy Center from our proceeds earned from the Northwest Fourth-Fest BINGO. We also had a great time hosting a fitness obstacle course that finished with a water balloon face off! --------------------------------------Our Lions Club heard the news of the Emerald Village Apartments fire, and reached out to the Village of Schaumburg, Illinois Government social workers to ask how we can help. They provided a list of clothing items that were requested by approximately 30 displaced seniors who were temporarily housed in local hotels.

Our Club quickly approved the funds and Lion Mary Jo purchased the items and helped deliver them to the seniors. --------------------------------------Our Lions club hosted the BINGO Tent at this year's Hoffman Estates Fourth-Fest. THANK YOU To ALL those that particpated in BINGO and for those that volunteered their time. Proceeds go to our community service perojects.

to a group of ten young adults . Total Link 2 Community is a 501c3 nonprofit organization providing learning opportunities and job skills for young adults with Down Syndrome and autism. This group has committed to helping the Lions by volunteering

for projects we may have. The first project they will do is provide platforms which are one inch thick foam rectangles covered in cloth used to train the puppies to stop when the trainer stops. On October 1, 2023 LIF Secretary PDG Derek Eurales from the Mounds Lions Club volunteered as DJ, supplying his equipment, playing 50’s 60’s and various music for the ROAR-IN CHARITY CAR SHOW hosted by the St. Jacob Lions Club in St. Jacob, Illinois. Vintage wheels, classic cars, military vehicles and a motorcycle were among various vehicles featured. Proceeds benefited LIF Student Low Vision Program. ---------------------------------------

A young and dedicated Eagle Scout in the Burr Ridge-Hinsdale-Oak Brook Lions Club community has taken on the challenge of restoring a pond in Lyman Woods as part of his quest to earn the Distinguished Conservation Service Award. He reached out to the Lions Club for support, and they were excited to be a part of this meaningful project. The Lions contributed a total of 8 hours to this incredible environmental service project. A huge congratulations, however, go to Eagle Scout Patel, who took the lead in this important initiative, in digging and moving mud for the newly-built reservoir. It will serve as a water filtration system for the pond’s inhabitants.

Algonquin Lions hosted a Wine Tasting in early September at the Village Vintner. The event earned $5,250 which will be used to send 10 children to Camp Lions in 2024. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Westmont Lion Rick Martin is getting a roasted ear of corn out of the new Corn Roaster for a customer. This was the initial outing of the club’s new Roaster. There’ll be lots of roasting ears sold next summer, won’t there. ---------------------------------------
