SEPTEMBER 2021
Hello District 1-A Lions, Last month I had asked the Lions of District 1-A to participate in a contest to name our District Newsletter. I am happy to announce our newsletter will now be titled “GG’s” Gazette” for this Lion’s year. The winning entry was submitted by ZC Maryanne O’Reilly who received a gift card. I had the opportunity to be an instructor at the MD-1 RLLI (Regional Lion Leadership Institute)
September 13-15. This class was sponsored by an LCI grant. The Governors from our 10 districts submitted names of Lions to attend the class. District 1-A was able to send more students due to some cancellations from other Districts. The students that attended from District 1-A are: RC Bob Eisenhart RC Robin Kirar Lion Frank Kirar Lion Nancy Kirner Lion John Pleta ZC Larry Williams Lion Brenda Block I want to congratulate all the students that attended from our District, and to thank them for their participation. The class was a big success because this group along with the students from the different Districts in MD-1 came to work and

were engaged and had some fun along the journey. If you are interested in attending this class next year please reach out to them about their experiences at this class. I will be working on a mini version of this class for our District, so stay tuned for future announcements. The District is busy with New Club development, RC/ZC improved reporting, zoom classes for new members, School supplies for the Bond School in Chicago and LCIF “Let’s make a difference. However, it’s time to focus on retention. Because of Covid-19, many of our members stopped attending meetings which then resulted in many cases for the member to be dropped. Have you called some of these members to see if they want to return? Does your club need help with retention? If so, please reach out to FVDG
Tony Zartler Retention Chair for assistance (tony_zartler@comcast.net). His team will be more than happy to work with your club. Unfortunately, it looks like Covid19 is rearing its ugly head again. Masks are now required at indoor spaces. If you have not been vaccinated you may want to consider this option to protect you. I will be anxiously awaiting getting my booster shot.
As always thank you for all that you do for your communities. And I look forward to seeing you around the District masked-up. PS Watch for more raffles regarding monthly MMR & MyLion updates.
GG P.S. 260 days until the District 1A Convention “Taking care of Business in District 1-A”.

From your Global Action Team
Global Membership Team Coordinator News By GMT Coordinator Daniel O’Reilly Membership It’s great to see various club fundraisers and service projects being shared regularly by CS Dawn Grogan. That tells us that clubs are meeting and back serving their communities. Now look at our membership numbers, trending positive. You can see the direct correlation to service and membership. Let your community see your club is active and serving your community and they will want to be part of your club. Take advantage of the International Board extended waiver of the entrance and charter fee through Dec. 30, 2021, act now. With the present growth rate, it might end this time, take advantage of it. Global Membership Approach We have a positive membership growth for the first two months of this Lion year. We have 9 clubs with a plus in membership, with 6 more clubs adding some, but their drops were greater, but trying to overcome losing members. A special recognition to the Chicago Mubuhay Lions for rebuilding their 3 District 1A Monthly e-Newsletter
membership from the COVID drops levels. Governors Goals for 2021-2022
Let’s work together and keep the momentum going. The more members we can add to our clubs, the more hands to provide the needed service. New Club Development Please let us know if you have an area, you believe would make a good club. A key indicator is your club is providing a lot of service to an open area. Membership Satisfaction – Leadership Support One thing I need to bring to the clubs. Facebook is an excellent way to spread the word about things being done by your club. Please make sure all club Facebook pages have multiple page administrators. If you only have one person, your page could be lost if that person is no longer part of your club. The issue is now search engines point people looking for information about your club to your Facebook page and they see a club that hasn’t posted in 4 District 1A Monthly e-Newsletter
3-4 years because that Lion who controls the page is gone. Now they think your club is not active anymore. Global Leadership Team Coordinator News By GLT Coordinator Thomas Elsey
