Door Design Tips To Enhance Your Home’s Beauty And Value
When choosing doors for your home, remember that careful selections can improve not only your home’s beauty and value, but also your quality of life. Here are a few door types to consider, along with their benefits:
Elevate with exterior French doors: French doors double the design impact, and elevate the front entryway and curb appeal of any home. Manufacturers like ProVia offer customizations on every element of French doors so you can make a truly unique statement. Start by choosing from various styles, materials and finishes.
Then, consider the addition of sidelites, transoms and decorative or privacy glass. Given how many factors you have control over, it’s helpful to use a design tool to configure the door of your dreams.
Visit provia.com/design-center to get started. Rest assured, no matter what your end results look like, there are a few factors you won’t have to worry about with ProVia doors: durability and energy efficiency. Virtually every possible combination of door style, glass, sidelite and transom is built to last a lifetime and is ENERGY STAR
certified.
Protect with storm doors: Storm doors provide doors and homes with an extra layer of protection from moisture, heat, wind, rain and other elements. Everyone has different requirements though. Fortunately, storm doors can be individually customized to meet your
practical and aesthetic needs. Depending on where you live, factors like the thickness and construction of the storm door can make a big difference in its performance.
You’ll also want to investigate your glass and screen options for added fresh air circulation in your home. While storm doors are often thought about more in terms of their functionality, it’s important to keep in mind that varying hardware options, styles and paint finishes allow you to seamlessly blend yours in with the aesthetic of your home.
Bring the outside in with sliding glass patio doors: Want to bathe your home interiors with light and the beauty of your natural surroundings? One of the most effective, low-maintenance ways to do just that is with vinyl sliding glass
patio doors. Those from ProVia are tested against the most stringent industry standards for air and water infiltration, wind load resistance, ease of operation and more. This means you’ll have lower heating and cooling costs and increased comfort all while offering your household full, unparalleled views of your outdoor spaces. Customization options, such as the materials and colors of the interior frame and the type of glass you choose, can help you tailor the look and functionality of your sliding glass doors.

Where To Put A Microwave In A Small Kitchen
For those with compact kitchens, a common dilemma is the ideal placement of the microwave oven. When every inch of space counts, finding the perfect spot for this vital appliance can make all the difference.
Deciding where to put a traditional countertop microwave can result in your tiny kitchen feeling even more cramped than it already is. That’s where the sleek and spacesaving solution of the drawer style microwave comes into play.
“In the quest for both functionality and style, the game-changing world of drawer style microwave ovens can transform your compact cooking haven into a sleek and efficient space.” says Peter Weedfald, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Sharp Home Electronics Company of America
Here are some of the major benefits of this style of microwave:
1. Undercounter Elegance: Drawer style microwaves are designed to fit seamlessly under your countertops, providing a streamlined and sophisticated look. Unlike tradi-
tional microwaves that can occupy valuable counter space, drawer style microwaves can blend effortlessly into your kitchen cabinetry, giving you a clutter-free cooking zone.
2. Ergonomic Accessibility: One of the standout features of this style microwave is the ergonomic design. Positioned at a convenient height, they reduce the need to reach or bend over, making them more accessible for users of all ages. Say goodbye to the hassle
of lifting hot dishes from an overhead microwave. With the press of a button or a voice command (depending on the model), effortlessly slide out the drawer style oven and you’re all set!
3. Multi-Functional Marvels: Drawer style microwave ovens often come with additional features. For example, select Sharp Microwave Drawer Ovens offer touchless operation, a concealed control panel and even integrated convection capabilities to enhance the
functionality of your kitchen.
4. Seamless Integration: When it comes to creating a cohesive kitchen aesthetic, drawer style microwaves are the epitome of seamless integration. Available in various finishes and styles, these microwaves can complement your existing cabinetry, contributing to a polished and unified look.
So, where should you put your drawer style oven? According to Sharp Home Electronics Company of America, the original inventor, designer and manufacturer of built-in drawer style microwave ovens, here are a few guidelines to consider:
• Adjacent to cooking zones: Strategically installing your drawer style microwave close to your range or oven encourages a smoother workflow and allows for you to transfer
hot dishes easily while minimizing the risk of spills.
• Island installation: Incorporating a drawer style microwave into a kitchen island is a popular choice. This central location ensures accessibility from all sides, making it a convenient and accessible choice for various kitchen activities.
• Integrated design: If you’re undergoing a kitchen remodel, consult with your designer to integrate the drawer style microwave seamlessly into your cabinetry. This could not only maximize space but also enhance the overall aesthetics of your kitchen.
For more information about drawer style microwaves and other kitchen appliances, visit shop.sharpusa. com.
“Microwave drawer ovens, with their space-saving design and range of functional benefits, have redefined kitchen design. By incorporating a microwave drawer oven, you can create a functional and beautiful culinary space that defies the limitations of kitchen space,” says Weedfald. (StatePoint)
Tips To Spring Clean Your Budget
With flowers blooming and birds chirping, you may be in a spring-cleaning mindset.
As you spruce up your home, you can also channel that energy into getting your finances in tip-top shape!
According to CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNING® professionals, here’s how to clear away the cobwebs in your budget:
Sort expenditures: If you’ve ever sorted your clothes and other items into piles during a spring clean, this budgeting principle will be familiar to you: Review your expenses and categorize them into needs, wants and expenditures you’re ready to part with.
Review your streaming services: Electronic subscription bloat is common, as is paying for forgotten subscriptions after free trials end.
Hulu. Do you really need all of them? Whether it’s an online newsletter or a music streaming service, cancel unused subscriptions.
Whether you do this on paper or electronically, use a color-coded system to visualize where your money is going.
For example, you may be subscribed to several of the most common entertainment streaming services, such as Netflix, Max and
Avoid bank fees: Review your bank statements. Are you getting dinged with fees? Consider switching to a bank that doesn’t charge an
account maintenance fee.
You can also set up notifications to avoid having your account get hit with an overdraft.
If you do get charged, contact your bank to explain your situation — you may be able to have some fees waived.
Switch insurance carriers:
Periodically review your insurance rates, and shop the market to see if better rates are available for home, automotive and other forms of insurance.
Reduce debt: If your debt is costing you a pretty penny, it’s time to
act. A CFP® professional or credit counselor can help you craft a plan for consolidating debt into lowerrate credit card accounts, refinancing your mortgage and reducing your overall debt burden.
You should also automate credit card payments (and other bills) to ensure you aren’t paying late fees.
Pay yourself first: Earmark a portion of your budget to savings and investments each month.
This will leave you with more money for your important goals and less for frivolous spending.

How To Plan For College Expenses
Each year, a majority of American parents of college students are confronted with higher-than-expected costs for tuition and room and board, according to a College Ave survey. The same survey finds that the price tag on other college-related expenses, such as books, activity fees and transportation, also catch large portions of parents by surprise.
“Making a concrete plan to pay for college can help you overcome that initial sticker shock and navigate these important years with less financial stress,” says Dan Kennedy, chief marketing officer, College Ave.
Kennedy recommends taking the following steps to create your plan for paying for college:
Seek aid each year: Don’t forget to submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) each
year your child is in school. This is the only way to receive need-based grants, loans and work-study offers from the federal government.
Read and compare financial aid award letters carefully: Use each school’s financial award letter, delivered in the spring, to get an apples-to-apples comparison of costs. Calculate the net direct cost of each school by subtracting offered scholarships and grants from the
total cost of attendance. If applicable, you can subtract work-study aid too. You should also factor in expected year-to-year increases in tuition, room, board and other fees. This analysis can help you narrow down schools within financial reach for your family.
Consider appealing: While an award package can seem like it’s set in stone, you may be able to appeal for more aid from the school
of your choice. Don’t be afraid to ask for more aid if your financial situation has changed.
Look for outside assistance: Scholarships are typically based on merit or talents and can provide substantial assistance. Colleges and universities themselves award scholarships, as do national and local organizations. One of the easiest scholarships to apply for is the College Ave $1,000 scholarship sweepstakes. The submission process does not even require an essay and you can apply every month. Encourage your student to continue applying for scholarships year-round, as every little bit helps.
Explore private student loans: The College Board reported that the average amount of aid that undergraduate students received in grants, federal loans, tax credits and work-study programs was $16,360 for the 2023-2024 aca-
demic year. Considering that the average total cost of attendance for a public four-year school that same year was $24,920 for in-state students, you might need more aid than your college initially offers. Private student loans are a great option to help supplement your financial needs. Shop around for a great rate and loan terms you can work with. Use College Ave’s student loan calculator to ensure you know the cost of borrowing and what your monthly payment might look like. It can be found at: collegeave.com/calculators.
For a private student loan, and for additional tips and resources for college-bound families, visit collegeave.com.
“With a clear financial plan, your family can stress less and enjoy the excitement that comes with sending your child to college,” says Kennedy. (StatePoint)
Graduating From College? Take These Steps To Launch Your Career
With demand for financial advisors expected to grow quickly — at a rate of 13% through 2032, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics — those with college graduation on the horizon would be wise to consider this marketable profession.
The key to launching a successful financial advising career is becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional. Those with CFP® certification are highly valued by employers and clients alike and can expect to have more career options and higher salaries. Here are the steps to take to gain this competitive edge and begin working in the field:
Get educated: CFP® certification has a twopart education requirement. The first is attaining a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university. The second is completing comprehensive college-level coursework in personal financial planning areas such as investment planning, estate planning and psychology of financial planning. While many begin the certification process after graduating college, you can
Take the exam: After you’ve completed the education requirement for CFP® certification, you’ll need to prove your skills by passing the CFP® exam. These exams are offered three times a year, and test preparation resources, such as practice exams, are available online to help ensure your success.
Gain experience: There is no substitute for real-world experience. That’s why CFP®
certification requires 6,000 hours of professional experience related to the financial planning process or 4,000 hours of apprenticeship experience. These hours can be gained before or after completing the exam.
Commit to ethical standards: All CFP® professionals commit to CFP Board to act in the best interests of their clients at all times when providing financial advice. They do so by completing an ethics declaration and agreement and by passing fitness standards and a background check.
Choose a path: Financial planning is not a one-track career. You can work at a large firm or be your own boss. You can specialize in a particular area of financial planning, provide holistic advice or even offer a financial services firm auxiliary support, such as in technology or marketing. Visit CFP Board’s Career Center to find a mentor, get information about career fairs and search for open
positions suited to your skills and interests.
Market yourself: Ninety percent of consumers see an advisor’s certifications as important, so put your best foot forward by heralding your credentials. Display your CFP® marks on your LinkedIn profile and on other networking sites. Also, be sure to create a public profile on CFP Board’s consumer site, LetsMakeAPlan.org, so that potential clients can find you.

Bill Gates Heaps Praise On Nadella: Empathetic And Inclusive
SEATTLE, WA – Bill Gates recently shared his thoughts on Satya Nadella’s leadership at Microsoft, acknowledging that despite early doubts, Nadella has far surpassed expectations in guiding the company to success.
Gates revealed that while he and Steve Ballmer had strong support for Nadella when considering him as a potential successor, there was initial uncertainty about whether he was the right choice to take the reins.
In the conversation with Brad Smith, Microsoft’s Vice Chair and President, Gates
praised Nadella’s leadership, particularly his empathetic approach, which contrasts with Microsoft’s earlier hard-driving culture. Gates also noted the importance of humor and adaptability in navigating complex challenges.
Looking back on Microsoft’s early culture, Gates highlighted a shift under Nadella’s leadership.
“We were speed nuts, staying all night… It was very hard-core,” Gates recalled. “But as this industry has matured, so has what’s expected of a CEO.”
What sets Nadella apart, Gates explained, is his ability to create a more empathetic and inclusive culture.
“Satya has a natural ability to work well with lots of people, to tell people they’re wrong in a nice way, and to let feedback come through to him more than I did,” Gates said.
Gates has long praised Nadella’s leadership style, noting that in some ways, his successor is a better leader than he was.
“I think as this industry has matured, so has what’s expected of a CEO,” Gates told the Wall Street Journal. “Satya’s ability to navigate Microsoft’s challenges has been extraordinary.”
Under Nadella’s guidance, Microsoft has seen remarkable growth, becoming a leader in AI and cloud computing, while its stock price has reached record highs. (Courtesy: https://indiawest.com/)

Is Wood Pellet Heating Right For Your Home?
Wood pellet heating is growing in popularity as more people discover its cost-saving, environmental and efficiency benefits. To understand exactly what wood pellet heating is and whether it’s the right fit for your home, consider these answers to commonly asked questions.
What is wood pellet heating? Wood pellet heating is a method of warming homes and buildings using small, compressed wood pellets as fuel. Compared to other heating methods, it’s an affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly option.
How energy efficient is pellet heating? Due to the low-moisture content of wood pellets and the advanced combustion systems of modern wood pellet stoves, pellet heating can help lower bills and improve energy efficiency. In fact, it’s possible to convert almost 100% of the pellets to heat energy with very little waste.
How does the cost of wood pellet heating
compare to other heating types? Installing pellet heating stoves is generally more affordable than other heating fuel sources. You’ll also likely spend less or the same on
fuel costs and may become eligible for tax credits. And because fossil fuels and other energy sources are more subject to market price swings, heating with wood pellets can help you predict your winter budget more accurately.
Is pellet heating good for the planet? In addition to being energy efficient, wood pellet heating is also a solid choice for eco-conscious households because the pellets are a renewable resource made primarily from recycled

2. Identify Your Passion, Skills and Purpose: Your passion and purpose are what will fuel your entrepreneurial journey, and your unique skills will allow your business to stand out in a crowded marketplace.
3. Evaluate the Competition: Having a thorough understanding of the competitive landscape is crucial. By evaluating other small
businesses, you gain valuable insights into their strengths, weaknesses and the strategies they employ. Start by identifying your direct and indirect competitors. Take note of their product or service offerings, pricing strategies, marketing and SEO tactics and customer reviews. This information can illuminate gaps in the market and highlight opportunities for positioning your business. Remember, competition isn’t inherently negative. It can provide motivation and inspiration.

Is pellet heating convenient? Ready-to-use wood pellets are found in most gardening and home improvement retailers. You can also arrange for home delivery. Wood pellets can be used in many types of appliances, including stoves, furnaces, fireplace inserts and boilers, making this a versatile heating method.
An added bonus is that they are easy to store and take up less room than traditional cord wood. Modern wood pellet stoves auto light, auto feed and can be controlled by a thermostat, remote or smartphone app, providing the conveniences of modern heating, with the ambiance, warmth and beauty of woodfired heat.
What factors should I consider when choosing an appliance? Consider where you’ll place it in your home to ensure you have enough room. You should also factor in the size of the space you’re heating and your aesthetic needs. Lastly, look for an easy-toclean appliance that will minimize ash production.

When buying pellets, what should I consider? Seek out high-quality pellets that light easily and burn efficiently. Check out the product’s British Thermal Unit (BTU) rating, which indicates its energy output. The higher the BTUs, the hotter the pellets will burn. You should also buy pellets that maintain an ash content below 1% of the total pellet weight. And check to make sure the pellet manufacturer is certified by the Pellet Fuels Institute.
“Switching to wood pellet heat offers numerous advantages, from energy efficiency and cost savings to environmental sustainability and ease of use. Consumers can enjoy the beauty and warmth of wood heat with the ease and control of a modern heating system,” says Jonah Levine, director of heating for Lignetics Group, a pioneer in transforming wood waste into premium, environmentally friendly, 100% natural products for more than three decades.

The Benefits Of Dethatching Your Yard
Dethatching your lawn has numerous benefits. But if you’re not sure what dethatching is or how to do it, you may be wondering if it’s really worth all the effort.
To shed light on dethatching, lawn care equipment manufacturer, Exmark is answering some frequently asked questions.
What is Thatch? Thatch is a compacted layer of grass and plant stems, leaves, roots, and other organic debris that builds up faster than it can decompose. It accumulates right below the surface of your lawn and right on top of the soil, at the base of your grasses’ blades. Overly thick thatch blocks water and fertilizer from reaching the grasses’ roots, causing them to be trapped and vulnerable to heat,
drought and stress—further stunting your lawn’s health and growth. However, thatch isn’t always a bad thing—a layer that’s less than a quarter-inch thick is normal and isn’t cause for alarm. It actually helps reduce soil compaction and water loss through evaporation, and it increases tolerance for cold and heat by protecting the growing blades.
When Should You Dethatch Your Lawn? For warm-season grasses, it’s best to dethatch in the late spring or early summer, and for cool-season grasses it’s best to do it in early spring or fall. But before you start dethatching, mow your lawn to half its normal height to avoid tearing up any live grass in the process. Then, take out your rake or dethatcher and remove the
Get Involved During Global Volunteer Month This April
Global Volunteer Month, celebrated in April, is a time to honor volunteers while encouraging volunteering in communities around the world.
This annual celebration is especially pertinent right now. According to a Pew Research report, only 54% of Americans feel a connection to others near them.
“Communities around the country are facing increased needs at a time when many people are feeling more isolated. Volunteering fills the gaps to strengthen community and the fabric of our society,” says Jennifer Sirangelo, president and CEO of Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to increasing volunteer service.
But as Sirangelo points out, volunteering doesn’t just build healthier and more equitable communities, it’s also good for the individuals who are lending their time and talents. “Engaging in volunteer activities has been identified as an effective way to build confidence, alleviate anxiety and depression, and provide a sense of purpose and connection,” she says.
Here are some ways you can take action this Global Volunteer Month and beyond:
Take the Pledge: Let your community know you are committed to volunteering and service by taking the Points of Light’s Global Volunteer Month Pledge. With nearly 50% of volunteer postings going unfilled, your participation can help meet critical community needs and ensure essential services are delivered.
Already committed to a cause you care about? Take this opportunity to deepen your engagement. Com-
mit to one extra volunteer project a month, or consider taking on a leadership position with an organization you work with.
Thank a Volunteer: Volunteers are the heartbeat of strengthening communities, and throughout the month, you can help recognize the vital role they play. Thank a volunteer or organization that is making an impact in your community starting on April 1 and throughout the month using the hashtag #ThankAVolunteer.
Spread the Word: Use social media to spread the word about the

This enormous database allows you to search for volunteer opportunities in your city or zip code based on your interests. Whether you’re volunteering on your own, with coworkers, or with family, you’ll be sure to find an opportunity that’s right for you.
“Volunteering is needed more than ever before. This April, we are urging everyone to join us in taking action. Lend your time, talent and passion to making a real difference in your own neighborhood and to creating a better world,” says Sirangelo. (StatePoint)
What are the Benefits of Dethatching Your Lawn? The time and effort that it takes to remove thatch pays huge dividends. Primarily, it exposes your soil to warmth and sunlight, helping carbon dioxide and key nutrients reach your grasses’ roots, resulting in deeper growth. It also encourages the effectiveness of fertilizers and reduces water pooling on the surface of your yard by facilitating drainage. And, it helps fight back against invasive weeds that thrive in conditions created by a heavy thatch layer. Best of all, it promotes an overall healthier, greener lawn.
For more insights, watch “The Benefits of Dethatching,” an episode of “Backyard Smart,” an original series from lawn care equipment manufacturer, Exmark. To watch the video, visit Backyard Life, which is part of a unique multimedia destination with a focus on helping homeowners improve their outdoor living spaces. Now that you have the lowdown on dethatching, it’s time to get outside and free up your soil. Your lawn will thank you later.

An Annual Exam Can Help Older Adults Stay Healthy
One of the best ways to prioritize your vitality is with an annual health exam. That’s especially true for older adults, who tend to have more health issues to manage, according to Dr. Grant Tarbox, national medical executive with Cigna Healthcare’s Medicare business.
Annual exams can vary and go by different names, depending on your coverage. Generally, they are offered at no cost to you through Medicare or Medicare Advantage (MA) and there are a host of reasons to get one, Tarbox said, including the following:
Having a health care team leader. It’s important to have a trusted advisor leading your health care team. That is the purpose of a primary care physician (PCP). A PCP knows your family and treatment histories and concerns. They play an important role keeping a broad view of all your care needs and can help you navigate them. By visit-
ing your PCP at least annually, you maintain a critical relationship that will serve you well when you need it.
Putting a plan together. Your annual exam is the time to discuss which health screenings and immunizations could be important for you based on your age, gender, and medical and family history. These include such things as a flu shot, a mammogram, or a colorectal screening. Talk to your doctor about what preventive care activities are right for you and put together a plan to get them. Most are covered at no extra cost through Medicare or MA.
Addressing conditions before they worsen. Aging increases the risk of certain chronic illnesses such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and arthritis. Ignoring these conditions won’t make them go away. Always tell your health care provider about any recent changes you are experiencing. Working
with your provider to proactively manage a chronic condition before it worsens helps you to maintain your independence and vitality.
Reviewing medications. If you take one or more medications, an annual exam is a good time to review them with your PCP. You may even want to take your prescriptions to your appointment. Are these medications effective? Are you taking them as prescribed? Are there any undesirable side effects? Are there potential harmful interactions, including with
over-the-counter drugs? You also can secure your refills and maybe even shift to home delivery for convenience or to save money.
Making lifestyle adjustments. Even small changes can help you live longer and better. Talk honestly with your health care provider about your lifestyle. They may recommend changes, such as exercising, stopping smoking, or eating healthy.
Checking on your mental health.
Your emotional health impacts your physical health. Depression doesn’t have to be a part of aging. Let your health care provider know if you are feeling sad, anxious or hopeless. They may recommend increasing your social interaction. Additionally, treatments, such as talk therapy, medication or both, may be covered by Medicare or MA.
For more tips on how to make the most of your annual exam, visit https://www.cigna.com/medicare/ member-resources/#media-resources. If those aren’t compelling enough reasons to get an annual health exam, then consider the fact that some Medicare Advantage plans will even pay you an incentive to ensure that you get one, said Tarbox. He added that you may also want to see your dentist and eye doctor annually to ensure whole body health. Those visits are among the extra benefits often covered by an MA plan, he said. (StatePoint)
Inflation Is Causing Consumers To Identify Their Priorities
If you’ve been watching your wallet, you’re not alone. As Americans continue to navigate inflation, 76% report cutting back on spending, up from 67% in 2024, according to the second annual Wells Fargo Money Study. The majority of Americans also say they are making tough financial choices to navigate their lives, including delaying plans with hefty price tags, such as travel, homeownership, education, marriage and retirement.
“There is a clear social narrative surrounding the question: ‘do I, and will I, have enough?’ The fact that these questions are being asked is positive because we know the earlier people focus on their money behaviors, the more time they have to course correct to achieve their goals,” said Michael Liersch, head of Advice and Planning at Wells Fargo.
Consumers continue to navigate higher than expected prices
An overwhelming 90% of those surveyed responded they feel “sticker shock” in one or more areas of common spending, including eating out, attending a concert, buying
a bottle of water, or downloading a video game, and say actual costs are between 55% and 200% higher than what they expect.
“Spending is one of the most important factors to staying on track,” said Liersch. “I would encourage people to align their spending with what matters most to them.”
Nearly all Americans (94%) acknowledge that they want to do just that: align money choices with their values, and 86% want to
be more intentional and thoughtful about spending.
According to Liersch, “These insights highlight that Americans are not just winging it. They are being extraordinarily introspective as they navigate their financial priorities.”
Americans judge themselves, not others
Money can be an emotional topic, at times inciting envy, anxiety and secretiveness. While 87% of Americans say it makes no difference to them how much money another person has, 56% keep how much they have secret, and 32% of them say it’s because they are trying to avoid people judging them.
Americans also spend time thinking about how much money other people have – and wishing they could have more themselves. Forty-seven percent responded they often feel envious of how much money other people have, 37% admit to obsessing about getting rich, 34% admire social media millionaires, and 23% admit to sometimes overspending just to keep up with people around them.
“Americans appear comfortable with other people being authentic about their financial situation, which is encouraging,” Liersch says. “So now it’s time to overcome selfjudgment and reset the frame of reference
from others to one’s own personal benchmark.”
Americans want help meeting goals
Eighty-six percent of respondents say they have a clear picture of what they want their money to do for them. And the vast majority are optimistic about how to do it: 87% say now is a good time to save and 65% say now is a good time to invest. Yet 61% say they need a mental reset, and are being held back by such factors as difficulty changing habits, lack of financial knowledge and other financial responsibilities.
To overcome these challenges, Americans are seeking more financial advice year over year. Last year, 24% said they were seeking more advice from others; this year it’s 36%. Looking across generations, the desire for more advice is higher among teens (54%), gen Z adults (61%) and millennials (46%).
At a time when many are feeling cashstrapped, learning new ways to think about and manage money can help you take control of your financial future. For the full report, visit sites.wf.com/wfmoneystudy-2025.

Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt 2025 Promises Another Night Of Unity And Impact
Mark your calendars, Austin! On June 1, 2025, Hindu Charities for America (HC4A) and Shalom Austin invite you to join us for the Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt (BMBB) fundraiser—a vibrant celebration of community, culture, and compassion.
This annual event isn’t just a night out; it’s a chance to unite for a brighter future, supporting underprivileged children with the educational resources they need to thrive.
As we gear up for BMBB 2025, let’s take a moment to flashback to the magic of last year’s event and the incredible value it brought to our community.
A Night to Remember: BMBB 2024 Unites Communities for a Cause
In 2024, Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt lit up the night, proving once again that when diverse cultures come together, extraordinary things happen.
From the colorful swirl of Bollywood performances to the soulful echoes of Borscht Belt traditions, the evening was a testament to the
power of collaboration. Organized by HC4A and Shalom Austin, the fundraiser raised funds to provide school supplies for 1,400 children—a goal fueled by the vision of raising $40,000.
And the community delivered, showing that unity can bridge divides and lift up those in need.
The evening was packed with heartfelt moments. Harish Kotecha, HC4A’s founder, kicked things off with a rallying cry:
“Your support is very important, and let’s not disappoint the schools and the kids.”
His passion reminded us of the stakes—15 years of sustained effort to give kids a shot at a better tomorrow.
Then there was Jennifer Greenberg, a longtime champion of the event, who marveled at its uniqueness: “Every single part of this event has been donated.”
Her words celebrated the generosity that makes BMBB possible, urging us all to keep the momentum going.
Rabbi Daniel Septimus brought wisdom to the stage, linking the event to the spirit of Passover: “We have an obligation to help pay it forward, as one community.”
His call to bridge educational gaps hit home, while Council Member Alison Alter added a personal touch, sharing how her Jewish and Hindu roots made the night “dear to me personally.” Their voices wove a tapestry of purpose and connection.
But the real stars were the stories of impact. Jose Antonio, a program beneficiary, moved the crowd with his gratitude: “Thanks to organizations like this, it was the impulse to move forward.”
Meanwhile, veteran Will Williams shone a light on military families,
noting, “Without education, a soldier cannot get promoted.”
These testimonies weren’t just words—they were proof of the fundraiser’s ripple effect, touching lives from classrooms to barracks.
Lessons That Inspire
BMBB 2024 left us with more than memories—it left us with lessons. We saw how collaboration between Jewish, Hindu, and African American communities can spark real change.
We learned the power of philanthropy to equip kids with tools for success, and the resilience of families like Jose’s, lifted by hope and support.
The night’s cultural flair showed us art’s ability to unite, while leaders
like Kotecha and Greenberg modeled vision and grit.
Volunteers proved that collective effort is the backbone of progress, and the focus on education reminded us what’s at stake.
Gratitude flowed freely, adaptability shone through, and the young performers on stage? They were a glimpse of the future we’re building.
Join Us in 2025
As Harish Kotecha said last year, “Give yourselves a big hand.” BMBB 2024 was a triumph of heart and hustle, and we’re ready to do it again.
On June 1, 2025, come be part of something bigger—a night where Bollywood beats meet Borscht Belt laughs, all for the kids who need us most.
Save the date, bring your spirit, and let’s make next year’s fundraiser another unforgettable step toward a brighter, more united future. See you there!

Anurag Kashyap In Austin For The 10th Indie Meme Film Festival; Presenting His Neo-Noir Thriller KENNEDY
(Continued From Page 01)
Operating under the alias “Kennedy,” he clandestinely serves as a hitman for the morally bankrupt police commissioner, Rasheed Khan (Mohit Takalkar). As Kennedy navigates this perilous world, he grapples with his own demons, seeking a semblance of redemption amidst the chaos.
From the opening sequence, Kashyap’s directorial prowess is evident. Renowned for his bold and unconventional filmmaking, Kashyap has redefined Indian cinema with cult classics like Gangs of Wasseypur, Dev.D, and Raman Raghav 2.0.
In Kennedy, the film’s visual aesthetic is again meticulously crafted, accentuating the nocturnal and sinister atmosphere of Mumbai’s underworld. Cinematographer Sylvester Fonseca’s work shines, utilizing tracking shots reminis-
cent of Scorsese’s early films and zoom-ins that evoke the suspense of Hitchcockian thrillers.
The film’s soundtrack is standout, a blend of haunting classical compositions juxtaposed with pulsating modern soundscapes that create an auditory experience that lingers long after the credits roll.
Rahul Bhat’s compelling performance as Kennedy is complemented by Sunny Leone’s enigmatic Charlie, a femme fatale whose presence adds layers of complexity to the narrative.
Leone’s performance as Charlie is also a revelation and a departure from her previous roles, showcasing her versatility and depth as an actress.
Kennedy is a tour de force that exemplifies Anurag Kashyap’s mastery in crafting gritty, thought-provoking cinema.
With stellar performances, a gripping narrative, and a hauntingly beautiful visual style, the film offers an immersive experience that challenges and entertains in equal measure. For those seeking a cinematic journey into the depths of the human psyche, set against the backdrop of a morally ambiguous world, Kennedy is a must-watch.
Critics have lauded Kennedy for its bold storytelling and stylistic flair. Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV commended the film, stating that it “seldom takes a breath,” highlighting the allure of a protagonist who oscillates between persistence and madness. Kennedy screens on the IMFF2025 Opening night on Friday April 11, at the AFS Cinema

SAIVA: Making A Difference And Building Connections
(Continued From Page 01) Two of our teen volunteers Saanvi and Varenya share their experience with SAIVA about what inspired them, their most memorable experience and something they learned!
Saanvi’s journey with SAIVA began when she discovered their website while browsing online.
“I came across SAIVA’s website while I was looking at something else online. I learned it had volunteering opportunities for all ages, so I thought it would be a good idea to meet like-minded people and have a fun experience.
That kept me motivated to continue working with SAIVA.”One of the most memorable events Saanvi has had the opportunity to work on is the Diwali at the Domain Festival, a major event organized annually by SAIVA to celebrate the festival of Diwali. “A memorable experience would be the Diwali at Domain festival that SAIVA provides opportunities for every year. Each year, I got the experience to learn, meet new people, and make connections with people of all ages.”
Through her volunteer work, Saanvi has also gained essential life skills. “From volunteering, I learned to be patient and manage my time to ensure that the people I help receive the best results and not simply an output. This has helped me plan my day-to-day schedule as well.”
Varenya’s path to volunteering with SAIVA was introduced by her friends, who were involved in SAIVA “I’ve initially started to volunteer with SAIVA through my friends and I’ve gone to a few of the events and loved the work I was doing. A couple of times during those events, I’ve talked to Megha, and she’s helped me find a better place in SAIVA and come up
with other events.”
One of Varenya’s standout contributions was her involvement in the marketing efforts for the Diwali at the Domain festival. “A memorable experience is when I’ve helped do the marketing part during the Diwali at the Domain event. I’ve helped make the flyer posters and street signs,” Varenya said.
For Varenya, volunteering with SAIVA has not only been about contributing to the community but also about forming personal connections. “I’ve learned the importance of communication and how volunteering can open up other opportunities to make new friends and gain new experiences.”
Both Saanvi and Varenya’s experiences highlight the incredible impact that volunteering with SAIVA can have—not just on the community, but also on everyone who joins in! Whether it’s learning to manage your time more effectively, building meaningful connections, or diving into event planning and marketing, their stories show just how much you can grow through volunteering with SAIVA.
SAIVA is a vibrant, open platform where anyone of all backgrounds or age can get involved in meaningful work, develop valuable skills, and make lasting friendships. As Saanvi and Varenya have shown, volunteering with SAIVA isn’t just about giving back—it’s about discovering new opportunities, personal growth, and making a real difference in your community! If you’re looking to give back, make an impact and have fun, SAIVA is the perfect place for you! There’s a place for you to get involved, learn, and be part of a passionate community working towards positive change. Visit saiva.org for more information!
Celebrating The Healthcare Professionals Who Keep Millions Moving
March is POP Month, a celebration of a vibrant and vital healthcare field of more than 15,000 professionals who make it possible for millions to overcome mobility challenges and improve their quality of life.
Children wearing back braces, veterans walking with artificial limbs and Paralympic athletes all likely receive care from a prosthetist, orthotist or pedorthist—or POP—professional.
Certified POP professionals help nearly 6 million people in America with limb loss or limb difference move better. They create devices to restore independence for people of all ages while boosting confidence and well-being.
The Best Healthcare Career Many Haven’t Heard Of
POP professionals are committed to helping people reach their mobility goals. They do it by designing devices, creating treatment plans, leading rehabilitation and working with insurance companies to ensure coverage.
POP is the 16th “Best Health Care Job”
and 49th “Best Job” according to a “U.S. News & World Report” ranking of best jobs in 2025. Yet awareness of the profession is lower than for many other healthcare jobs. POP Month celebrates the profession and the many achievements of its professionals, who use expertise in medical care, art and engineering to improve mobility.
“POP professionals make a lasting difference in the lives of their patients,” said Catherine
Carter, executive director at the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC), the credentialing organization for professionals in the field. “They help people return to everyday life and the activities they love.
No matter the mobility challenge, POP professionals meet their patients where they are and help them move forward.”
During POP Month in March, more than 30 organizations that have partnered with ABC will host educational activities, open houses and more. Check out POPMonth.org to learn more and follow along on social media.

World Happiness Report: US Drops To 24, India At 118
(Continued From Page 01)
Mexico and Costa Rica made their top 10 debuts, ranking 10th and 6th, respectively. Researchers suggest that strong family ties and larger household sizes in Latin America contribute significantly to overall happiness.
AMERICA
The U.S. ranking has steadily declined since peaking at 11th place in 2012. Experts attribute this drop to growing social isolation—data shows one in four Americans ate all their meals alone in 2023, a 53% increase since 2003. Political polarization and declining trust in institutions have also contributed to lower happiness levels.
The report highlights that happiness isn’t just about economic prosperity but also about strong social connections and trust. “Happiness isn’t just about wealth or growth—it’s about trust, connection, and knowing people have your back,” said Jon Clifton, CEO of Gallup, which provides data for the rankings.
INDIA
India’s ranking at 118 marks progress, yet it still lags behind even several conflict-affected nations such as Ukraine, Mozambique, and Iraq. India’s neighbors did better: Nepal ranked highest at 92, followed by Pakistan at 109 and China at 68. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh ranked lower at 133 and 134, respectively.
India scored well in social support, thanks to strong family and community bonds, but performed poorly on personal freedom, which measures individuals perceived ability to make life choices.

Benefits Of Being Physically Active
A walk isn’t just good for your body; it’s a simple, powerful way to care for your mind and soul. Physical activity, like walking, reduces stress, boosts mood and promotes overall well-being. Yet physical activity levels in the United States continue to decline, a trend threatening both mental and physical health.
WALLET AND TRUST
The report highlighted a global trust study, in which researchers conducted a “dropped wallet” experiment. Findings showed that people often underestimate the kindness of strangers—more lost wallets were returned than expected. Nordic nations, including Finland, Denmark, and Sweden, ranked among the highest in both expected and actual wallet returns.
AFGHANISTAN UNHAPPIEST
Afghanistan continues to rank as the least happy country, mainly due to ongoing social and economic hardships, particularly affecting women. Sierra Leone and Lebanon followed as the second and third unhappiest nations. The report was published by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network and the Wellbeing Research Centre at Oxford University. (Courtesy: https://indiawest.com/)
Less than half of adults and fewer than 1 in 5 children in the U.S. get the recommended amount of physical activity needed for heart health, according to the American Heart Association’s 2025 Heart & Stroke Statistical Update. National recommendations call for children to get at least one hour of physical activity each day, but the latest statistics show less than 19% of children in the U.S. achieve that target.
Meanwhile, less than half of adults get the recommended 150 minutes or more of weekly physical activity. What’s more, according to data from a National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 1 in 4 U.S. adults sits for longer than eight hours each day, which can have negative consequences on physical and mental health.
For decades, the American Heart Association has championed the importance of physical activity in communities across the country through events like National Walking Day on Wednesday, April 2. These tips and information can help you understand how a brisk walk can make a world of difference for heart health and mental clarity.

Staying active is one of the best ways to keep your mind and body healthy. (Continued On Page 18

14-Year-Old Painter On Mission To Help St. Jude Kids Fighting Cancer
Arsh Pal has two passions in his life: his painting and helping people.
On his eighth birthday, Arsh’s family gave him acrylic painting supplies and he became obsessed with the medium, producing painting after painting. He found endless inspiration in nature and the world at large, including the downtown murals near his then-home in Dubuque, Iowa. The family has since moved to Chicago.
“One day, I had the idea of selling my paintings,” said Arsh. At around this time, his mother Divya started bringing Arsh with her to her job as an occupational therapist at a nursing home so he could help with the activities.
As Arsh was leading the residents in a painting tutorial, he noticed the attention he showed them as they
created their paintings of a simple landscape scene, brought them joy.
“We can all be learning the same simple thing, like a mountain or a cloud, and the activity makes us happy,” said Arsh. The moment affected Arsh deeply, and something clicked: He realized the residents, though decades older, had the same desire for connection and fun that he did. But he also saw that sometimes they were hurting and lonely.
Heavy thoughts for an 8-year-old.
“That made me want to help someone,” said Arsh. Someone else who was hurting. Remembering how he’d wanted to sell his paintings, he thought, “You’re too young to earn money, but this is the way you
Patients Share 5 Tips For Self-Empowerment After A Bladder Cancer Diagnosis
Bladder cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers, yet many patients face delays in diagnosis or struggle to find the right care.
Are you navigating a bladder cancer diagnosis or unsure of what your symptoms could indicate? Patients are sharing what they wish they knew earlier—and five tips for taking control of your care, including seeking out the advanced diagnostics procedure called Blue Light Cystoscopy (BLC).
1. Advocate for Yourself.
Early diagnosis saves lives, and routine check-ups and proactive testing can lead to earlier diagnoses and better outcomes. It’s important to stay organized by keeping track of medical records, test results and appointments. It’s also important to trust your gut. According to one patient, you may need to be persistent and proactive in order to get the right diagnosis.
“I knew something wasn’t right, but it took multiple visits before I got a proper diagnosis,” says Karen S. “If there’s one thing I’d tell others, it’s to act early and push for answers.”
Like many patients, Karen first received White Light Cystoscopy, a
simple procedure for diagnosing bladder cancer, and the traditional diagnostic approach in most urology offices. While WLC remains a valuable tool, incorporating BLC enhances the process and, as a result, can lead to improved detection of cancerous lesions that can drive improved outcomes for bladder cancer patients. This was the case for Karen, who gained greater peace of mind and more confidence in her diagnosis and care through this advanced procedure.
2. Educate Yourself and Others.
If you’re experiencing symptoms that could be bladder cancer, learn more about bladder cancer, treatment and diagnostic tools such as BLC.
“Bladder cancer wasn’t even on my
radar until I was diagnosed. Now I talk about it to help others,” says Mary Beth M., who spent time researching her options as a patient. “I had no idea there were different types of cystoscopies—until I researched it myself.”
To learn more, you can lean on trusted resources, such as https:// rebrand.ly/Tips-BLCprocedurewebsite.
3. Build a Support System.
The cancer journey can be challenging and stressful. Surround yourself with family, friends and support groups who can help you advocate for the best care.
4. Communicate With Your Health Care Team.
can support someone, using your talents.” For the past seven years, Arsh has been selling his artwork to raise funds for the kids at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “I decided to donate the money to St. Jude because St. Jude is run with donations, and it helps kids with cancer, so that really stood out to me,” he said.
When communicating with your health care team, patients say that being proactive is essential. “I learned to ask my doctors direct questions. It made all the difference,” says Mary Beth. Some questions you can start with include:
• What technology do you use to diagnose and monitor bladder cancer?
• How often do you perform blue light cystoscopy?
• What are my options to ensure the most thorough diagnosis and treatment?
• Am I candidate for BLC?
5. Find a Urologist Who Offers BLC.
Don’t be shy about seeking out the best care possible. If you are interested in exploring BLC, speak with your urologist. If your current provider doesn’t offer BLC, consider exploring other options. For information about locations that offer BLC, visit https://rebrand.ly/ Tips-BLC-Locations.
When it comes to your health, be informed, be persistent, and never stop advocating for the care you deserve.

His first donation to St. Jude, when he was 8, was for $1,000. He’s donated $1,000 to St. Jude every year since then, until this year when he decided to take part in something even bigger. St. Jude was founded in Memphis in 1962 by Danny Thomas, the son of immigrant parents, to treat children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases regardless of their race, ethnicity, beliefs or ability to pay. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food, so they can focus on helping their child live, regardless of the duration or the cost of care.
Arsh has taken virtual marketing seminars to help him sell art. “A lot of things are behind it,” said Arsh, “and it’s a lot of work.” He said he believes these skills will help him throughout life. Divya has been his pressure-release valve, taking the harder things off his shoulders so he can focus on creating the art itself.
“She’s kind of my manager, actually, because she’s handling a lot of things. She created my Facebook account and Instagram page, and she takes pictures. And she handles, like, the meetings and emails and a lot of different things,” Arsh said. “Without her, I really can’t do it.” Divya said that’s OK because she knows how blessed her family is to have their health, and her heart goes out to St. Jude families.
“Being a mom, too, I can completely see what a St. Jude family could go through,” said Divya. “Supporting them is the least we could do.” “It can be really painful for them to go through all that treatment, and I know I’m helping them,” said Arsh. “And it makes me feel good because I’m pretty much saving somebody’s life.”

Benefits Of Being physically Active
(Continued From Page 16)
The physical health benefits may be obvious, but research suggests physical activity can also help bring more joy to your life.
According to the 2019 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, people who get the recommended amount of physical activity are less likely to experience depression.
Regular physical activity enhances your mood, sharpens your mind, improves sleep and boosts overall well-being, all while reducing the risk of disease and depression and increasing both the quality and longevity of life.
How to Be More Physically Active
Exercise as simple as a brisk walk can put a major spring in your step. It can even energize you to finish other tasks at hand, whether it’s cooking or running errands. Give your daily physical activity level a boost with these tips:
• Exercising outdoors is a great way to get moving. Spending time outdoors has been shown to reduce stress, promote a sense of belonging and improve mood. It’s even better if you can enjoy the sunshine outside, which can improve mood, boost your immunity and help you get some vitamin D.
• Invite a family member or friend along with you. It’s good for them,

Getting Pets Involved
Pets are part of your family, and they can help you get healthy together. Pets provide a fun reason to spend more time outside and get the exercise needed to reduce the risk of disease later in life.
Getting moving along with your pet adds more exercise to your routine, which means living longer, reducing risk of dying from heart attack or stroke, reducing risk of diabetes, reducing stress and even boosting your overall happiness and well-being.
Exercising with your pet can also mean enjoying more socializing. You may find yourself meeting other dog owners in your area on a walk or at the dog park.

A Guide To Great Skin At Any Age
Here’s the secret for achieving a glowing complexion: there is no secret. In fact, a key factor in achieving great skin at any age comes down to one common denominator that’s no secret at all. It’s simply taking good care of your skin.
After all, your skin is your body’s single largest organ. It’s your protective shield, but it can also reveal the truth of your age, especially if you’re lax when it comes to regular skin care.
Make hydration a priority. Keeping the skin hydrated maintains its barrier integrity.
When the skin becomes dry, it reduces the effectiveness of the skin barrier, making it less resilient against irritants and allergens.
Often, when the skin is dry it feels more rough or flaky. With proper hydration, the skin feels smoother and looks more supple.
Achieving hydration through a better skin care routine, drinking plenty of water daily and eating certain fruits and vegetables can improve your skin’s appearance, maintain-
ing a radiant, healthy complexion.
Use the right soap. Despite what your mother may have told you, squeaky clean isn’t always best.
A better bet when it comes to soap is a product that respects your skin’s moisture balance and cleanses without creating tightness or irritation.
Mild options such as Pears skin cleansing products are specifically formulated and dermatologically tested to be gentle on the skin.
They’re made with plant-based glycerin, which is a powerful humectant that attracts water from the environment and deeper layers of the skin to the outer layer, keeping it hydrated.
Glycerin-based cleansers can help prevent stripping of the skin’s natural oils, which averts a tight, dry feeling.
“More than ever, consumers are looking for mild and gentle products that are effective, smell good and work well,” said Dr. Adriana Lombardi, founder of the Skin Cancer & Cosmetic Surgery Cen-
ter of New Jersey.
“Pears soap checks all the boxes. It creates a really nice, thick lather and smells crisp and clean while leaving the skin hydrated.”
Avoid hot showers. Even the best products may not overcome the potential harm that comes from taking showers that are too hot.
The heat removes your skin’s natural oils, which leaves you prone to itching and dryness and may worsen skin conditions.
Classical Music For The World Presents “East In The West”
(Continued From Page 01)
“East in the West” celebrates music as a bridge connecting across cultures between East and West with event starting at the Covenant United Methodist Church and ending at the Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple, a Taiwanese Buddhist temple.
Coincidentally, the festival’s first event, takes place on Good Friday, April 18, and the final event will be presented on Buddha’s Birthday Celebration Day on May 4.
“Indeed, I flew and landed here in the West from the East like a dandelion seed.
The air brought me here, and the sun and rain nurtured me. It’s been over 25 years since I left my home
country, South Korea, in the Far East. Since then, I haven’t had a chance to go back.
I became ‘East in the West,’ explains CMFW founder & CEO Younnie Wall.
The festival features performances by Italian guest musicians Francesco Mastromatteo, cellist, and Noemi Passiatore, guitarist; Alex Syedin, a Ukrainian composer and pianist in Austin; University of Texas at Austin professor Sandy Yamamoto, violinist; musicians from the Austin Symphony Orchestra and the Butler School of Music at UT Austin; Beth Usher, Eurythmy; Josep Choi, pianist; Lili Juyeon Yoo, soprano; Taewon Kim: tenor.
Richard Frazier, conductor; Amy
Frazier, harpist; CMFW Chamber Orchestra; and Venerable Jue Ji, Chanting.
Mastromatteo also serves as CMFW Artistic Advisor and Artistin-residence.
The musical selections represent both the East and the West, including traditional western classical music repertoire by J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, and F. Schubert as well as East Asian songs from Taiwan and South Korea.
Additionally, Ukrainian composer and pianist Alex Syedin will perform two songs from his newly released album, “Universe from the Earth,” in honor the people of Ukraine and the Austin Ukrainian community. (Continued On Page 24)
the skin. You may not feel the heat as much during colder times of year, but the rays are still capable of damaging your skin, maybe even more so because you don’t feel the burn.

3 Steps to Practice a Healthy Skin Routine
Instead of cranking up the heat, opt for lukewarm temperatures and keep the shower time brief. Use moisturizing cleansers, and after your shower, immediately apply moisturizer to replenish and rehydrate your skin.
Protect your skin from the sun. After completing your skin cleansing routine, there’s an additional step to help maintain healthy, hydrated skin before heading outdoors: Take time to apply a layer of sunscreen to skin that will be exposed, including your face, ears and hands. Reapply every two hours if you’re spending a great deal of time outside.

1. Use a humidifier in your room. Adding moisture to your environment may help prevent over-drying and promote better air quality for your overall health, including your skin.
2. Use glycerin-based soap. A glycerin-based soap like Pears gently cleanses your skin without stripping essential moisture.
3. Moisturize immediately after showering. Showering, especially at higher water temperatures, can strip your body’s natural oils. Applying lotion immediately after you shower helps retain the moisture your body needs.

Make A Smart Home Investment With An All-Climate Heat Pump
If your home uses a conventional heating and cooling system, you may wonder if there’s a better way to manage indoor comfort. Between rising energy costs and concerns about the efficiency of conventional systems, many homeowners are exploring alternatives. One popular solution is an all-climate heat pump.
All-climate heat pumps are the next generation of heat pump technology built for peak performance, regardless of the outdoor temperature. From the personalized comfort all-climate heat pumps deliver to the energy savings realized, it’s no wonder more homeowners are considering going all-in on all-climate. If you’re considering replacing your current HVAC system, read on for some of the benefits of all-climate heat pumps.
Personalized Comfort
Ductless, multi-zone, all-climate heat pump systems are designed
to deliver personalized, roomto-room temperature control tailored to your preferences. Unlike traditional ducted unitary systems, which typically operate on an all-or-nothing basis, ductless multi-zone solutions provide individualized climate settings for each space. Whether you prefer a warmer living room or a cooler bedroom, the flexibility to adjust each zone offers unparalleled convenience and energy efficiency.
Efficiency
According to a survey of U.S. homeowners commissioned by Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US (METUS), 93% of homeowners surveyed with conventional HVAC systems reported concerns about utility bills. Seventy-five percent of those surveyed also consider energy efficiency always or often when considering home improvements.
Conventional heating and cooling systems run at full capacity to reach
set point and then shut off. The start-stop action ultimately wastes energy. With variable-capacity capabilities and inverter-driven technology, all-climate heat pumps can adjust and maintain temperatures, lessening your home’s overall energy demand and driving down cost.
Cost Savings
Reliability is another cost-saving factor. All-climate heat pumps are purpose-built with durable materials to perform well in all kinds of weather.
“We continue to educate homeowners about the advantages allclimate heat pumps have over conventional HVAC systems,” said Mark Kuntz, Chief Executive Officer, METUS. “As homeown-
ers become more knowledgeable about the numerous benefits, including personalized comfort, energy efficiency and cost savings, we believe they will increasingly install these next-generation systems in their homes.” Learn more about how you can better manage your home’s indoor comfort with all-climate heat pump technology by visiting mitsubishicomfort.com. Individual Sweetpotato Breakfast Pizzas
Recipe courtesy of the North Carolina Sweetpotato Commission Servings: 4
4 medium North Carolina sweetpotatoes (about 2 pounds), divided 1 tablespoon, plus 1 teaspoon, olive oil, divided 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper kosher salt, to taste freshly ground black pepper, to taste
all-purpose flour, for rolling out dough
1 pound whole-wheat pizza dough at room temperature, divided into four equal portions (4 ounces each)
1 cup freshly shredded Gouda cheese
4 large eggs
1/4 cup diced chives
Preheat oven to 400 F. Place 1 pound sweetpotatoes directly on rack and bake until soft, about 1 hour. Remove from oven and let cool 5-10 minutes. Peel and puree flesh until smooth; reserve 1 cup.
Increase oven heat to 450 F. Peel remaining sweetpotatoes and dice into 1/2-inch pieces. Toss 2 cups diced sweetpotatoes with 1 tablespoon olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne and salt and pepper, to taste; place in even layer on baking sheet. Roast until softened but not crisp, 15-20 minutes, stirring halfway. Remove from oven.
Lightly flour clean, flat work surface. Roll each ball of dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness (about 7 inches diameter).
With remaining oil, lightly coat rimless baking sheet. Transfer rolled out dough to baking sheet.
Spread pureed sweetpotato over surface of each dough round, about 1/4 cup each, leaving about 1/2inch border. Top each with 1/4 cup shredded Gouda. Add 1/2 cup roasted sweetpotato cubes, leaving open space in center of pizzas.
Carefully crack one egg into center of each pizza; bake 15 minutes until crusts are golden brown on bottom, cheese is melted and egg whites are fully set. Carefully remove pizzas from oven.
Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Top each pizza with 1 tablespoon diced chives. (Family Features)
Classical Music For The World Presents “East In The West”
(Continued From Page 20)
“Xiang Yun Community Choir seeks to unite a diverse community into a single voice of shared humanity. We believe that through singing music from a variety of cultural backgrounds we can learn more about one another and work to compassionately coexist together. With our music, we hope to reach out to our local community and spread joy for all to hear,” said Landry Harmon, Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple Administrative Assistant.
This is the fifth festival produced by CMFW and was made possible through a unique collaboration with the Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple and an anonymous donation from a temple devotee. Additionally, the first two concerts are presented through generous support and ongoing partnership with the Covenant United Methodist Church.
For the grand finale, the CMFW Love Concert highlights the temple and its services to the general public, which are both cultural and spiritual.
“We hope the public will learn about the temple and its mission, which carries out East Asian spiritual and cultural heritage in Austin,” Wall said. “I hope the message of understanding and acknowledging different cultures will be delivered well to the audience through this festival.”
Venerable Jue Ji, Director of Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple, also expressed hope that this festival and partnership will bring people together.
“We hope this music festival will bring joy and unity to the local Austin community. By exploring Buddhist chanting and classical music performances, we can demonstrate the universality of music,” Ji said. “That regardless of cultural background and language, we can come together and celebrate. By opening our minds, our hearts, and our ears, we can find healing and realize harmony in this human world.”
The CMFW and Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple partnership extends to two additional performances as part of an international conference of the Buddhist Light International Association North America Fellowship, April 19 and 20, at the JW Marriott Hotel in downtown Austin and at the Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple courtyard.
CMFW’s festival artists will perform for the more than 400 Buddhist spiritual leaders and devotees from Fo Guang Xiang temples
throughout North America. Performances are not open to the public, but media are invited to cover these events and share more about the organizations involved.

By Hariharan S
Sunita Williams Highlights: Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have safely returned to Earth after spending over nine months in space due to unexpected delays. Their spacecraft, SpaceX’s Dragon, successfully splashed down off the Florida coast, marking the end of a mission that captured global attention. They left the International Space
Station earlier in the morning after exchanging final farewells and hugs with remaining crew members.
Their SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule named Freedom is gearing to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere. Its heat shield must endure scorching temperatures of around 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit (1,650 degrees Celsius) before the capsule can deploy its parachutes and splash down off the coast of Florida, near Tallahassee, at 5.57 pm ET on Tuesday (3:27 am IST, Wednesday).
-Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore spent 286 days on the International Space Station, where they conducted over 4500 orbits and
travelled more than 121 million statute miles
-The crew will undergo NASA’s 45-day post-mission rehabilitation program is designed to help astronauts recover from the physical effects of spaceflight.
-Their return was scheduled to begin initially on Wednesday night, but NASA postponed the journey as unfavourable weather are expected to prevail later in the week.
-‘Butch and Suni’ travelled to the ISS in June last year for a scheduled eight-day mission.
They were forced to stay as the Boeing Starliner capsule developed issues with its propulsion system.
-The duo was the first crew to fly Boeing’s Starliner in a test flight. The faulty capsule returned to Earth last September.
-US President Donald Trump and his close adviser Elon Musk - SpaceX’s CEO - have sought to blame, without evidence, former President Joe Biden for the astronauts’ plight. (Courtesy: https://www.hindustantimes.com/)

The brand’s “Good Fats Meet Great Taste” campaign, featured at select Kroger locations, highlights the importance of balanced nutrition and fresh food choices as part of an overall heart-healthy lifestyle.
Avocados provide a good source of naturally unsaturated fats, which can be part of a
heart-healthy eating pattern when consumed in place of saturated fats. Austin Spring Championship 2025: A Swing Toward Cricket’s Bright Future In The USA
By Staff Reporter
In the heart of Central Texas, where football once reigned supreme, a new sporting pulse is quickening.
The second edition of the Austin Spring Championship, a youth cricket tournament pulsing with energy, unfolded on the Rio Ranch Cricket Fields in Liberty Hill, TX, in March 2025.
What began as a grassroots flicker—kids swinging bats on makeshift pitches beside middle and high school fields—has erupted into a full-blown movement. Cities like Austin, ahead of the curve, are investing in cricket’s rise, building proper fields and fostering a culture that’s catching the eye of youth across the nation. This tournament isn’t just a weekend of games; it’s a testament to cricket’s surging popularity in the USA, particularly among the young, and a glimpse into its growing value as a sport that blends tradition with tenacity.
Cricket’s ascent in America is no fluke. Major League Cricket launched in 2023, and with the sport’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics on the horizon, the USA is waking up to a game that commands billions of fans globally. Youth participation is skyrocketing—leagues like the DYCL in Dallas, NTCA in Dallas, TCCL in Houston and Austin’s own AYL and WCI Academy are churning out talent at a pace that rivals soccer’s boom decades ago. The Austin Spring Championship is the latest jewel in this crown, drawing 14 teams from Kansas
tem ready to rival baseball diamonds and soccer pitches nationwide.
City, Dallas, and Austin for a fourday showdown over Spring Break. These kids aren’t just playing for fun—they’re grinding through long-format matches, showcasing
DYCL Dallas stole the show, sweeping titles in all three age groups—an achievement that surely left their coach, Asif, beaming with pride and plotting the next victory.
NTCA Dallas fought hard to claim
a resilience that builds character, teamwork, and a deep appreciation for strategy. For them, cricket isn’t just a pastime; it’s a proving ground for life’s bigger battles.
Across seven pristine fields, 28 games unfolded in a blaze of competition. The U14 and U18 squads battled in the 40-over format, while the U12s tackled 35 overs— formats that mirror professional cricket’s rigor. This isn’t backyard T20 chaos; it’s a deliberate nod to the sport’s roots, fostering patience and skill in a way that’s rare in America’s fast-paced sports culture. The level of professionalism here is a shot in the arm for cricket’s growth. Tournaments like this, with their structure and scale, signal to parents, schools, and sponsors that cricket isn’t a fringe experiment—it’s a thriving ecosys-
the U18 runner-up spot, while the local Austin Blasters snagged second in both U14 and U12, proving Central Texas can hang with the big dogs. Teams like FCCA Dallas, TCA Dallas, KYCA Kansas, and Austin Starz brought fire to every match, turning the championship into a showcase of raw talent and fierce rivalries. This isn’t just a one-off—organizers are already eyeing bigger fields and broader reach for 2026, dreaming of Austin as a must-visit hub for cricket fans hungry for top-tier youth action.
The Rio Ranch Cricket Fields didn’t just host this spectacle; they elevated it. Impeccably maintained and paired with a flawless organizing crew, they set a gold standard for youth sports events. Credit goes to the LoneStar Premier Cricket League (LPCL) and local lead-
ers like Cedar Park Mayor Jim Penniman-Morin and City Council Member Heather Jefts, who graced the awards ceremony as Chief Guests. “It’s really wonderful to see cricket taking off in our community,” Mayor Penniman-Morin said. “I am proud that Central Texas could host kids from as far as Kansas City. Everyone involved had a great spring break at the Austin Spring Championship.” Jefts echoed that enthusiasm: “It’s so important to provide sports opportunities for kids. It gives them physical, mental, and emotional skills they will build on their whole lives. Cricket is a great sport and has a huge following around the world. I’m so proud we have a talented and growing hub here in Central Texas! I can’t wait to see the future of cricket in our community.” Their words weave a thread from the fields to the future, spotlighting cricket’s role in shaping well-rounded kids.
Bhavesh Carsane, LPCL founder and a driving force behind the event’s success, couldn’t hide his excitement. “This tournament is proof of what happens when passion meets opportunity,” he said. “We’re building something special here, and it’s only going to get bigger.” His vision aligns with a broader push to cement Austin’s place on the cricket map, one boundary at a time.
Then there’s Alok Singh, the spark who lit this fire. Singh launched the Austin Spring Championship in 2024 with just six teams—three local, three from out of town—and in a single year, he’s doubled its size and stature. As the founder and head coach of WCI Academy, Austin’s first high-performance center for youth cricket, he’s sculpting the next generation of stars. WCI’s website boasts a mission to blend elite training with a love for the game, and Singh’s results speak volumes.
“The growth of youth cricket has been truly encouraging,” he said. “Young cricketers are increasingly emerging with a huge hunger for competitive games. I’m delighted to build an ecosystem in partnership with others to host a longerformat tournament in Central Texas. This could not have been possible without years of diligent support from Santosh Pogaru, Rohit Anand and Ram Subramanian.” His outlook? More fields, more teams, and a legacy that could one day see Austin-bred players donning the red, white, and blue on a bigger stage.
Cricket in the USA isn’t just growing—it’s roaring to life. The Austin Spring Championship 2025 is more than a tournament; it’s a rallying cry for a sport that’s found fertile ground in America’s youth. From Liberty Hill to Kansas City, these kids are swinging for the fences, and they’re taking cricket’s future with them.
