India Preferred Emerging Market Pick
NEW YORK, NY (IANS) – Morgan Stanley has increased the overweight stance on India as the mostpreferred EM market. Relative conomic/earnings growth is improving, and the macrostability setup looks sufficient to withstand the higher real rate environment. The “DREAM” run of

Recent high-frequency trends also support the bullish stance with inflation concerns abating and the trade balance improving. The report highlighted risks for Asia/EM equities given rising real rates, geopolitical uncertainty and narrowing market leadership. (Continued On Page 05)

CRICKET IN LA 2028 OLYMPICS MUMBAI, (IANS) – Cricket’s commercial massive strength in India and other member countries was not a consideration for the sport’s return to the Olympic Games after 120-plus years at the Los Angeles Olympics, scheduled in July 2028, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach said on October 16. Cricket was last played in the 1900 edition in Paris as a one-off match between Great Britain and France (a team comprising British nationals and two born in France).

Fall Maintenance Checklist To Keep Your Home In Tip Top Shape Fall is in the air, which means there is a lot to get done around the house before the cold weather comes.
Stop the Drafts. Insulating the home helps you stay warm and save money on energy bills.
From landscaping to insulation, read on for a homeowner’s guide to prepping for the upcoming season.
Identify trouble spots where drafts occur and use weather strip seals, like those from Duck brand, to effectively seal these gaps.
Fall Furnace Check. Before winter arrives, ensure your heating system is in working condition and safe to use. Turn off the furnace first and then clean the vents, check for cracks or rust and swap out the dirty filter for a clean one. If it’s been a while since your furnace has been maintained, it may be time to schedule a professional visit. Gutter Clean Out. While the fall foliage is beautiful, it can quickly clog gutters and cause water backups and flooding. Put on heavy-duty work gloves and remove debris near the downspout and work your way to the other end.
ily repair broken or cracked pipes with strong T-Rex Tape. Unlike ordinary duct tapes, this strong tape is built with intense holding power for long-lasting repairs, and its aggressive double-thick adhesive ensures it sticks to rough, dirty surfaces through all weather types and temperatures.
As you clear away the leaves, eas-
Trim Your Trees. Cut bushes and trees hanging over the driveway or roof to prevent limbs from falling during snowstorms this winter. Focus on trimming any dead or drooping branches, as these are the ones that are most likely to cause damage.
Secure the Perimeter. Slips and falls can occur when steps and walkways are covered with ice and snow.
Install proper outdoor lighting to illuminate these areas and to help prevent accidents. If you have steep or uneven wood or concrete steps, apply T-Rex Extreme Tread Tape to improve traction on the surface. This quality tape is made with a multi-layer grit embedding process for long-lasting wear and features a stronger adhesive bond than standard anti-slip tapes. While fall maintenance can feel daunting, following these tips will simplify the process, so you can feel confident that your house is prepared for changing temperatures. (StatePoint)

4 Ways You Can Observe National Veterans And Military Family Month When was the last time you thanked a military member or veteran for their service? November is National Veterans and Military Family Appreciation Month and an excellent time to celebrate, support and honor service members. That’s why Points of Light, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to mobilizing people to take action that changes the world, is sharing ways you can get involved, along with the stories of former military members already doing so. From volunteering to donating and beyond, these ideas are based on the Points of Light Civic Circle®, a framework that highlights nine pathways to boosting social impact. 1. Listen and learn. Being informed about an issue can help you think more critically, make better decisions and lend stronger support. Check out two podcasts created by Military OneSource. Covering topics like deployment, casualty assistance, money management
that fosters community and purpose among service members and veterans.
and parenting, they are designed to help military members and families thrive, and can help others understand the difficulties of military life. 2. Volunteer. Hands-on support is some of the most impactful work you can do in the nonprofit sector, and organizations rely heavily on volunteer power to carry out their missions. The American Red Cross is currently recruiting caseworkers for military members, veterans and families. This volunteer role requires some training, but can be carried out from anywhere, and
shifts are flexible. Whether you’re looking for remote or in-person volunteer opportunities, search Points of Light Engage, the world’s most comprehensive database of volunteer opportunities around the globe. You can also get inspired by such dedicated volunteers as Navy servicewoman and Daily Point of Light Honoree Michaela White. For the past two years, she’s advocated for mental health in the military, volunteering her time with Patrol Base Abbate, a nonprofit
3. Donate. Nonprofits and NGOs are dependent on donations to pay their staff, recruit volunteers and execute their high-impact work. This year marks Wounded Warrior Project’s 20th anniversary. You can support its mission of providing career and VA benefits counseling, mental health support, adaptive sports initiatives and more, by making a donation for National Veterans and Military Family Appreciation Month. 4. Celebrate, thank and honor veterans. Veterans and their family members are everywhere – from working alongside you to doing everyday things like grocery shopping, eating at a restaurant and more. Consider ways you can celebrate and honor military members or veterans in your community. It might be as simple as thanking a coworker for their service, writing a thank you note and dropping
it off at your local VA or sending one virtually through Soldiers’ Angels. You might also attend a Veterans Day parade or event in your community or simply ask a veteran about their service. These gestures can go a long way in helping veterans and service members feel seen and appreciated. Retired fireman, Army veteran and Daily Point of Light Honoree Tom Schneider is a great example of someone who integrates his work with causes he cares about. Since 2017, he’s extended a helping hand to those devastated by floods, fires, tornadoes, hurricanes and even plane crashes as an American Red Cross volunteer. From volunteering your time and talent, to contributing your resources, there are many ways to honor former and current military members and their families this month. (StatePoint)
5 Ways To Make Math Part Of Your Kids’ Daily Lives Mathematics can feel intimidating to a lot of students, but by making it a part of your child’s daily life, they can have fun with the subject, while beefing up their skills for STEM learning in the classroom. Here are five ways to incorporate math into errands, chores and hobbies:
of arrival, all involve basic math skills, and can be honed while on the road. More advanced concepts, such as torque, aerodynamics, and kinetic, electrical and thermal energy, can also be applied to driving and road trips. But you don’t have to be in motion to find a relationship between cars and math. Many of these same mathematical concepts can be addressed while performing automotive maintenance.
1. At the store: Involve your child in the process of shopping and making home purchases. Let them use their skills in areas such as arithmetic, percentages and fractions, to help you find the best deals, and to estimate what the total cost of your cart will be at checkout. This is also a good opportunity to talk budgeting and money management. 2. At the game: Make math fun at the stadium or arena. Whether your child is an athlete, a fan, or both, sports can be an excellent way to bring probability, averages and statistics into
5. On-the-go: everyday conversation, along with more advanced STEM concepts, like kinematics. To better understand the performance of a particular team or athlete, kids can crunch numbers and visualize data with graphs and charts. 3. In the kitchen Whipping up dinner for the family? Baking a batch of cookies for the school fundraiser? Have your child measure and weigh the
recipe’s ingredients, convert from metric to English measurements, if needed, and set the oven timer and temperature. Like many household tasks, food preparation inherently involves numbers and mathematics. The best part? You’ll also be encouraging the development of a practical life skill. 4. While driving: Calculating fuel prices and efficiency, along with estimated times
Of course, for on-the-go math learning, and for the classroom, your child should be equipped with gear that makes learning fun and intuitive. The natural textbook display functionality of a graphing calculator, like the fx-9750GIII from Casio, makes graph plotting, probability distribution, vector arithmetic and spreadsheets a high-
ly visual experience, whether kids are calculating their NFL team’s probability of making it to the big game, or the air resistance of an SUV. Plus, the calculator is capable of programming in CASIO Basic and MicroPython, so that kids can put the T into STEM learning, anytime, anywhere. For many reasons, kids are not always excited about math class. Maybe it’s because the subject feels dry, or maybe it just feels too challenging. Making connections between math and the real world can be a game changer though, introducing the subject as a fun and engaging way of understanding the world. (StatePoint)

Are You A Medicare Rookie? Pros Can Help You Find Right Plan
Roughly 4.4 million Americans will reach the age of 65 in 2024, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. While age is just a number in some respects, this particular birthday marks the time when Americans become eligible for the federal Medicare health insurance program. And if you’ll be hitting this milestone soon, you’re in good company, as athlete, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Earvin “Magic” Johnson will be doing the same. “I’ve been a rookie a few times in my life, but this time, I’m new to Medicare,” says Johnson. Medicare is the government health insurance program for Americans 65 and older, and those under 65 with certain disabilities, providing hospital coverage (Part A) and physician visits (Part B) to those who qualify. During this year’s Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), which takes place between Oct. 15-Dec. 7, 2023, rookies and pros alike can hone their health insurance selection game plan with a little coaching. That’s why Magic Johnson got these tips from Cigna Healthcare, which serves millions of Medicare customers nationwide: 1. Don’t delay. Medicare has a seven-month
window around your 65th birthday called the Initial Enrollment Period. Enrolling outside this window could result in higher premiums on Medicare Part B for the rest of your life. However, if you’re still working, you may be able to keep your current plan, depending on the size of your company, and switch to Medicare without penalty when you retire. If you’re not working and you’ve already filed for Social Security, you’ll be automatically enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B when you turn 65. 2. Know what’s covered. Medicare Parts A and B are sometimes called Original Medi-
care and cover hospital and physician expenses. To cover things like dental, vision, hearing and pharmacy, you may opt for a Medicare Advantage plan (also known as Part C), which covers everything that Medicare does and provides additional benefits, including, in many cases, prescription drugs (also known as Part D). Assessing your budget, health needs, doctor preferences and lifestyle will be important in making the best choice for you. 3. Read the fine print. Before signing up for a particular plan, make sure that your favorite health care providers are in its network. While you may be able to go out of network for care, be prepared to pay more if you do. You’ll also want to factor in all the associated costs of a given plan, including monthly premiums, co-pays and deductibles, as well
as the prices and rules around the prescription drugs you take. 4. Get help. Turn to resources and platforms that can help ensure you understand the plan you’re enrolling in. Call Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) 24/7. TTY users can call 1-877-486-2048. Or, visit the Medicare Plan Finder website at Medicare.gov/plan-compare. For local assistance, refer to the State Health Insurance Assistance Program at www.shiptacenter.org. You can also contact individual Medicare plans, including Cigna at CignaMedicareInformation.com. 5. Use your benefits. For optimal health, make full use of your plan’s benefits. In particular, be sure to get the wellness checks and preventive screenings needed for your age and health status. If your plan offers extra perks, such as fitness or nutrition programs, take advantage of them. “If you find out that the plan you signed up for last year is not the right fit, lean into the experts about what works best for you and make changes during AEP to set yourself up for a winning year,” says Johnson. 5 Ways To Support Underappreciated Professionals Unsung heroes make everyday living possible. They work behind the scenes and tackle some of the most demanding work imaginable, such as maintaining facilities and keeping them in tip-top condition.
to arrive for work each day.
You can show your appreciation for deserving workers such as your favorite school custodians or office maintenance staff members in numerous ways, including these suggestions from Rubbermaid Commercial Products, supporters of cleaning and maintenance professionals nationwide. Write Thank You Notes In today’s digital world, handwritten notes are a novelty. The times may be changing, but the impression a thoughtful handwritten message leaves behind hasn’t changed at all. Keep a supply of blank notecards so you can offer notes to those who make a difference in your life. The sentiments don’t need to be long; a simple expression of gratitude is enough to brighten someone’s day. Participate in Appreciation Events
You might receive information from local schools or businesses about opportunities to support maintenance staff, such as hosting meals or helping with cleanup in classrooms or offices. Finding opportunities to support underappreciated custodial staff can allow community members to show thanks in meaningful ways. For example, Rubbermaid Commercial Products is hosting a Behind the Scenes of Clean Campaign this fall to elevate, recognize and thank cleaning and facility maintenance professionals who are among the first
The campaign includes more than 40 events globally where community members can engage with and personally thank custodians who are making an everyday difference behind the scenes. Recognize Milestones Often, those in custodial roles blend into the fabric of everyday life. They’re rarely the focal point of celebrations, but often make it possible for others to honor special occasions. Make a point to know about the underappreciated professionals in your life, so you can
recognize events like birthdays, work anniversaries and other dates that hold special personal meaning. Do Your Part Think about what small steps you can take to make unsung heroes’ jobs easier. That might mean picking up after yourself or cleaning up a mess in your workspace. It could involve wiping down your table after lunch. Little gestures can add up to a big difference. Lead By Example You don’t need to wait for others to join you in recognizing workers whose impacts are made behind the scenes. Speaking up and taking action can serve as a positive example for those around you. You can even take the lead and organize an effort to recognize individuals who rarely receive thanks, such as the custodian at your office or the janitorial team at your favorite retailer. India Preferred Emerging Market Pick
(Continued From Page 01) MSCI EM equities have fallen to 10 percent since July 28, retracing half of their gains from October 2022. We see the market at a crucial juncture given still negative earnings revisions (exacerbated by USD strength) and a challenge to valuations from rising geopolitical risks and 10-year US real yields (re-testing their post-2007 highs of 2.5 percent) for a volatility-based framework exploring risks for the asset class. “We remain structurally bullish on India with the key thesis of our market upgrade intact. Our India Economics Team’s recent tracker shows projects under implementation have recorded broad-based growth and PMI manufacturing has remained in the expansionary zone since July 2021, likely driven by strong domestic demand amid broad external weakness. “Moreover, the previous concerns of higher inflation causing abrupt changes in monetary policies have somewhat abated after September CPI moderated to 5 percent and core CPI slowed further to 4.6 percent, with the team forecasting below 5 percent in October. “The trade deficit has also narrowed with service trade balance improving sequentially in September,” Morgan Stanley said. India has been structurally outperforming MSCI EM by 45.5 percent from early 2021 until October 2022, and we expect outperformance to continue, with India starting to show a material breakout in relative EPS versus EM and having relatively low correlation/revenues from both the US and China, the report said.
Governor John Carney of Delaware shared his admiration for the message of the evening. “I was struck by what was said by the Swami just before that the temple is a bridge, a bridge from the past to the future, a bridge from India to America, a bridge from one community to the next. It is an incredible place of devotion.” Also, in attendance was Randhir Jaiswal, Consul General of India in New York who addressed the assembly and delivered a message of congratulations from Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. “Love the end and love the means by which we reached here, said, Chaitali Inamdar a volunteer from Pennington, referring to the 12,500 volunteers that built the largest Hindu Mandir in the modern era. BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham invites everyone, regardless of their background, to experience the feelings of fun, joy, happiness, and dedication that were celebrated during the grand opening. It is a space where cultures converge, traditions flourish, and hearts unite. About BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham The BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham at Robbinsville, NJ, is a sacred place of worship and a center of Hindu architecture, culture, unity, and selfless service. 6 Ways To Weatherize Your Home A changing of the seasons may mean adjustments to your routine and updates to your home decor, but it also brings maintenance and upgrade opportunities for homeowners.
important step in protecting both the furniture itself and your home from high winds that can pick up during colder months or increased moisture during the rainy season. Some pieces may need stored away while others can simply be covered, but make sure to clean and carefully dry to avoid mold and mildew growth beforehand.
As temperatures shift and seasonal weather rolls in, weatherizing can help you conserve energy, save money and improve comfort all while protecting the exterior (and interior) of your home from the elements. This checklist from the door experts at Masonite, a global industry leader in interior and exterior doors and door systems, can help you keep the outdoors out. Have Heating and Cooling Systems Inspected Turn to the professionals to have your furnace and air conditioning inspected before temperatures change. They can make sure the system is working properly so you can have heat or cool air when you need it while conducting safety checks to keep your family safe from carbon monoxide leaks and other hazards. Plus, having your system inspected before any extreme weather means necessary repairs can be completed before you’re relying on it for comfort. Trim Trees Your trees and shrubs might provide a beautiful aesthetic in spring and summer, but winter weather
can turn them into hazards for your home. Heavy winds and snow and ice buildup can cause branches to break off and damage roofs, windows and more. Some experts recommend waiting until leaves fall to prune; be sure to research the types of trees on your property and understand the best maintenance methods to keep them healthy without putting your home at risk. Replace Your Front Door Living in a comfortable, energyefficient home starts with keeping out rain, wind, cold and heat. For a protected and weather-proof home, consider replacing your front door with a premium alternative like the Masonite Performance Door System, designed to keep the outside out and the inside in. Available with a variety of exterior fiberglass doors in a multitude of styles, colors and finishes, including multiple glass options, the system’s industry-leading 4-Point

Clear Gutters While it’s a bit of a dirty job, clearing gutters of debris and buildup like leaves and twigs keeps the system running as it should. Gutters can’t properly drain when they’re blocked, which means water isn’t being diverted properly. This leads to water spilling over and can cause problems ranging from mold or mildew to larger issues like foundation damage. 3 Strategies To Prepare Teens For Life After School (Continued From Page 01) With an increasingly dynamic career landscape creating an awareness of jobs that didn’t exist even 10 years ago and a shortage in the workforce, there’s a willingness for both potential employees and employers to look at careers and young talent from a whole new perspective. “There isn’t a ‘typical’ career anymore,” said Dr. Lorna Bryant, Gen Z career expert and head of career education for Pearson Virtual Schools. “With the perfect storm in the workforce of boomers retiring, many people still not returning to work in the wake of the pandemic and a population that has declined for the last 50 years, this generation (ages 11-26) is positioned extremely well. Employers want and need them. In short, the scales have flipped to the supply side and demand is causing
many employers to remove barriers to work entry. Whether high school grads go to college or work, developing in-demand skills early will help them secure and succeed in the jobs of the future.” Consider these tips from Bryant to help students explore the many options in front of them and prepare for the possibilities that await after high school. Help Kids Cultivate Durable Skills While technology has transformed the world of work, an increasing number of careers prioritize durable skills over technical or hard skills. Durable skills (also known as “soft” or “human” skills) include collaboration, leadership, communication and attention to detail, along with traits like empathy, grit and resilience. According to Pearson’s Power Skills report, these are some of the most in-demand skills for employers. In addition, research from America Succeeds found employ-
ers seek durable skills 3.8 times more frequently than the top five technical or hard skills in every location, industry sector and educational attainment level.
Possessing these skills is not only attractive to employers but colleges and universities, too. One of the best ways to prepare for the jobs of tomorrow, which don’t exist today, is to focus on timeless durable skills. Many students already possess or are actively developing these skills in high school. The key is to raise awareness of their importance,
seek ways to boost them and showcase them on college and job applications or resumes. For example, teens can display their leadership skills by captaining sports teams or starting a club at school. They can showcase collaboration and communication abilities by holding and thriving in student government positions, volunteering or working part-time jobs. Bridge Passions and Hobbies to Careers Beginning conversations with children as early as middle school that expose students to job roles, responsibilities and salaries connected to areas of interest is important for setting them up for long-term
success. Nurturing interests – rather than dismissing them as flights of fancy – and finding paths to explore that align with those hobbies or interests in real-world applications can open doors to potential careers that may not have previously been considered. For example, Lake Liao, a 2023 Lighthouse Connections Academy grad, is attending Princeton University on a pre-law track. The flexibility of online school enabled him to dig into his passions for political and community organizing and activism in high school, including activism around climate and environmental policy. It was through joining local nurses in their fight for a fair contract he realized he wanted to be a lawyer and make a difference in the labor rights cause. (Continued On Page 09)

5 Ways To Support Dogs’ Health As They Age
While you may look at your dogs and see the same little puppies you brought home years ago, the reality is they age the same way people do, and if you count in “dog years,” sometimes even faster. The aging process for dogs can mean graying whiskers and less ball chasing, but it may also mean adjusting to changing health needs. As dogs approach their late adult and senior years, it’s important to adapt the ways they’re cared for so they can enjoy happy and healthy lives. To fully support your dog’s lives as they age, consider this advice from the pet experts at Zesty Paws. Enjoy Enrichment and Exercise Whether your furry friends prefer a friendly game of fetch or a long walk around the neighborhood, exercise is key for dogs of all ages. As dogs mature, some of the highenergy bursts may fade, but continuing with low-impact exercises can help them stay in shape both physically and mentally. Stay active by walking to support joint health and mobility and keep regular grooming appointments to support healthy skin and coat. Don’t forget enrichment activities to help stimulate their minds, too. Try hiding food or treats in puzzles or toys, or schedule play dates with other dogs so they can get active and socialize. Explore the Benefits of Functional Pet Sup-
plements Dogs, just like humans, have a molecule in their bodies called nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), which supports cellular function, energy and repair mechanisms. NAD+ levels naturally decline throughout the aging process, but to help negate these effects and support cellular health regeneration in dogs, Zesty Paws created a supplement to support healthy aging for dogs. Powered by Niagen to help reinvigorate cellular energy, the Healthy Aging NAD+ Precursor system brings a little of their puppyhood back through support of normal cellular, metabolic, brain and heart, skeletal and muscle health. A healthy and balanced diet is important for dogs of all ages. With that in mind, there are subtle nuances at different life stages that call for ingredients and food blends to match dietary needs. For example, puppies typically require foods with more protein and fats to help fuel their growth. Adult dogs may need food that is more focused on addressing issues like gut health, weight control, dental hygiene and other needs. Then, as pets mature into their senior years, you may need to consider foods with added support for their hips and joints or a lower-calorie diet to help alleviate weight concerns due to decreased activity. Be Diligent About Regular Vet Appointments While pet parents already know the importance of keeping up with routine veterinarian visits, these check-ins with a health professional can take on increased significance for aging pets. It’s recommended to schedule regular appointments with your vet so he or she can conduct physical examinations to
monitor your pet’s well-being, and this time also provides an opportunity for you to discuss any changes you’ve noticed in your pet’s routines. Just like you, your adult dogs should have a complete examination at least once a year. Stick to Routines Just as you have certain things you do each day, like brushing your teeth and making your morning coffee, dogs can also benefit from having their own routines. Whether it’s a morning walk or weekly bathing, having a routine can reinforce previous training for adult dogs and help them continue to learn new behaviors. Routines based on exercise, enrichment, training and grooming can help ease the tension of other life changes such as travel, moving or new house guests and allow dogs to feel more confident and comfortable. For these aging pets, having and maintaining a routine can also be helpful for consistency and reducing nervousness. Spat With Delhi Will Affect Visa Processes But We Still Welcome Indians TORONTO (IANS) – Canadian Immigration Minister Marc Miller said that visa processing times in India “will inevitably be impacted by this unacceptable and unilateral decision by the Government of India, but we will strive to minimize the impact on people looking to come to Canada.” Ottawa was forced to evacuate 41 of its diplomats following a diplomatic spat with New Delhi over the killing of pro-Khalistani hardliner Hardeep Singh Nijjar and India suddenly withdrawing diplomatic immunity. With India maintaining that it seeks parity in diplomatic presence, Canada said that only 21 Canadian diplomats and dependents would be stationed in India from now onwards. Miller said that the lower number of staff will have short-term repercussions and that Canada will continue to accept and process all temporary and permanent resident applications. According to CIC News, IRCC is trying to mitigate the impact by adjusting the workload for Visa Application Centres (VACs) that already process the majority of the applications from India, but some work will have to be done by email.
The Canadian immigration body said in a statement that a large majority of applications from India are already processed outside the country, with 89 percent of India’s applications processed through the global network.“The five Canada-based IRCC staff who remain in India will focus on work that requires an in-country presence such as urgent processing, visa printing, risk assessment, and overseeing key partners,” the IRCC said. “Canada has a strong connection with Indian citizens, and will continue to welcome them, whether they wish to come here to visit, work, study, be reunited with loved ones, or live permanently in the country,” the IRCC said. More than 118,000 Indians became Canadian permanent residents in 2022, which was 27 per cent of the over 437,000 new permanent residents welcomed by Canada, the CIC News reported. Canada opened its door to more than 226,000 Indian international students last year and nearly 60,000 Indians became Canadian citizens in 2022. (Courtesy: https://indiawest.com/)

Why You Should Invest In Your Skin Health This Winter If you’re like many people, you may view the change in seasons as a sign that you can give up your skin protection routine. Experts say that everyone, regardless of gender or lifestyle, should be careful not to neglect their skin health in winter. “Don’t let your guard down in winter. Not only are you still being exposed to sunlight and pollution during these colder months, but there are sources of free radicals indoors, too, which may have negative, aging effects on the skin. Free radicals can damage the skin’s cell function and DNA, and DNA changes can cause mutations that could increase the risk of skin cancer,” says New York City dermatologist, Rachel Nazarian, MD FAAD. To invest in your skin health this winter, and all year long, Dr. Nazarian offers the following tips:
that aids in neutralizing the negative effects of free radicals.
• Keep up the SPF routine: Don’t stow that bottle of sunscreen away. Applying a topical broad spectrum SPF on a daily basis can protect skin while you’re enjoying time outdoors, and from the incidental exposure that occurs through a window indoors, like while driving. • Get inside-out protection: While
topical protection is important, ultimate skin health requires a combination of defensive layers. Amp up your skin protection routine with a daily supplement, such as Heliocare. Clinically proven and recommended by 87% of U.S. dermatologists surveyed, this vegan and gluten-free natural dietary supplement has antioxidant effects on the skin and contains Fernblock PLE Technology, a proprietary ingredient
5 Tips To Create An At-Home Study Space For Students
Now that students are in the full swing of the school year, they will need a quiet personal area to study and tackle assignments. From research and writing to cramming for exams, here are five tips to help create an environment that is calm and conducive to learning. Select a study sanctuary. Choose a location free from distractions away from the front door or a television. If you have limited space, convert a nook outside of the kitchen or a large empty closet into an office; just be sure this spot is well lit with natural light or several lamps. Keep furniture fun and flexible. Comfortable furniture can make all the difference during an intense study session, so be sure to pick out a cozy couch and chair. Add a standing desk, so students can stretch their legs while continuing with the task at hand and consider purchasing a bean bag chair to keep the atmosphere relaxed. Make it neat and tidy. Students can save time and reduce clutter by mounting a bulletin board to keep track of their exam schedule and other important study materials. Use heavy-duty, double-sided tape to hang it without damaging the wall, then personalize it with fun push pins, motivational quotes and a colorful border made from one of the many available Duck Tape colors and prints. Additionally, placing small bins in the desk area will help keep track of pens and sticky notes, and file holders will keep materials from each class separate and easily accessible. Study in style. One way to keep the motivation going during the busy school year is to make this space feel fun and vibrant. Pick a color scheme or theme for the space, then hang wall art, band and movie posters or framed photos of family and friends to go with your chosen design direction. Add some colorful pillows to the desk chair or couch, then customize school supplies and containers to match the mood. For a burst of brightness, use Duck Mirror Crafting Tape to embellish pen holders or planters. Complete weekend resets. After a busy school week, offices can become cluttered and messy with dust, scattered papers and food crumbs from those after-class snacks. Designate time on Sunday to clean up before the new school week begins. As part of the reset, place items back into their designated spots, update the bulletin board with new to-do lists and wipe down surfaces to maintain a clean and hygienic environment. While the school year can get stressful, making use of these tips will help foster a great at-home educational environment so students can succeed all school year long. (StatePoint)
“Whether you’re a ski bunny or prefer hibernating all winter, there is no time of year when your skin is immune to free radical damage. A popular skin concern, collagen loss, can create signs of aging, like wrinkling, fine-lines and sagging. Since collagen loss is expedited by free radical damage, taking a supplement like Heliocare all year long is an excellent precaution to help your body protect itself from the damaging effects of free radicals ,” says Dr. Nazarian. To learn more, visit heliocare.com. • Put the device down: Protect your skin from excessive exposure to the visible light emitted from digital screens like cellphones and laptops. To do so, find small, easy ways to limit your device usage, such as reading a physical book instead of using an e-reader, or by playing records instead of playing
DJ on your phone. You can also reduce exposure by simply turning the brightness down on your devices. • Sleep tight: During sleep, your body works to repair organs, including your skin. Getting highquality, deep sleep each night is essential for healthy skin and a healthy body. According to The Sleep Foundation, the best temperature for sleep is 65 degrees Fahrenheit, even in winter when it’s tempting to turn up the thermostat to toastier temperatures. You can also promote good sleep by keeping alcohol and caffeine consumption in check, and by turning to sleep apps that soothe users into slumber with meditation and white noise. To help keep skin healthy and radiant, don’t neglect it in the winter months. For best results, ensure your care routine is both comprehensive, and year-round. (StatePoint)

How Families Can Protect Generational Wealth
A home is often the most valuable asset a family can own. It serves as a wealth-generating opportunity for current and future generations as the home’s value appreciates over time. Yet, for hundreds of thousands of people who inherited their land and homes from family members, these assets could be at risk.
Many families have experienced problems with properties that have been passed down without a will or estate plan. These properties are referred to as heirs’ property. If the deed for a property is in the name of the deceased relative and a will does not exist, it results in a “fractured” or “tangled” title shared among all multiple family members or “heirs.” This makes it difficult for heirs to maintain and manage the property in several ways, like securing a loan or selling the property. Additionally, heirs’ property owners are often cut off from accessing governmental repair and rebuilding programs and property tax relief programs.
dents.
“In some families, money, and particularly estate planning, is a taboo subject, but it needs to be discussed. Assets can easily be lost if steps aren’t taken to protect them,” says Stacy Spann, head of Housing Access and Affordability Philanthropy at Wells Fargo. “One of the ways we can help close the wealth gap in many communities is by empowering people to maintain home ownership from one generation to the next.” Here are some tips to get you started:
A key driver of heirs’ property is a lack of formal estate planning. Unfortunately this issue disproportionately impacts Black and Latino Americans. According to a
2023 national survey from Caring. com, only 29% of Black and 23% of Hispanic respondents had a will or other estate planning document, compared to 39% of white respon-
1. Start planning today. You do not have to be older or wealthy to create an estate plan. 2. Take an inventory of all your assets. 3. Create a will. You will want to provide specific instructions on your wishes for all your assets. 4. Designate beneficiaries. You can set up beneficiary designations for your banking and investment ac-
counts, personal property and real estate. Wells Fargo’s Heirs Property Initiative is providing $3.6 million in grant funding to 20 organizations across the country to support work addressing issues of fractured or tangled titles. Housing and legal assistance nonprofits are offering free access to resources designed to keep families in their homes and on their land so that homeownership is preserved for future generations. These resources include legal assistance for people who need help creating a will or who are already facing heirs’ property challenges, as well as expert advice about tangled titles, estate planning, real estate taxes and more. Beyond building generational wealth, taking steps to protect it is essential. With proper planning, diligence and time, you can pass down assets to loved ones that will open the door to new opportunities and advantages. (StatePoint)
How To Limit Indoor Air Pollution In Your Home On average, Americans spend 90% of their time indoors, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, making indoor air quality critical to the health of families. The level of some pollutants in indoor environments can be two to five times higher than outdoor concentrations.
steps you can take to reduce your risk from exposure to harmful pollutants:
Through the new Healthy and Efficient Homes campaign, the American Lung Association is raising awareness of common sources of indoor air pollutants -- including gas-, propane-, oil- and woodburning appliances -- and promoting practical short- and long-term solutions to address the associated health risks.
• Avoid unnecessary wood burning in your home.
The Problem In addition to cleaning products, mold, moisture and pests, the household appliances you use on a daily basis can impact indoor air quality. According to a comprehensive review of existing research, the American Lung Association has found that using appliances
• Make sure your gas appliances are in proper working order. • Install carbon monoxide monitors.
• Use ventilation, either a range hood that vents to the outside or an open window or both, when cooking on a gas stove. that burn methane (also known as “natural”) gas, wood, propane and heating oil can release harmful pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide, benzene and carbon monoxide in homes, while also contributing to outdoor air pollution and climate change. The review also found that the pollutants from these appliances increase the risk of breathing problems, asthma attacks, respiratory infections and other health harms, especially in children and older adults.
“Using these appliances can sometimes worsen asthma symptoms, cause wheezing and result in reduced lung function in children,” says Katherine Pruitt, national senior director of policy for the American Lung Association. Solutions If you rely on combustion appliances for heating, hot water or cooking, there are some immediate
• For homes that rely on wood burning for heat or cooking, an air cleaning device that uses HEPA filtration can provide some protection from the soot and smoke. As Pruitt notes, gas was once considered the cleaner, more appealing choice of fuel for heating and cooking, but now, healthier and more efficient appliances are available in the United States, such as heat pumps and induction stoves.
Efficiency standards are helping make appliances cleaner, while local, state and federal incentive programs exist to provide rebates and other financial incentives to those who choose to install modern electric appliances. “The goal is not to force anyone to make the switch. It’s to make doing so easier and more affordable for those who choose to,” says Pruitt. To learn more and get involved, visit Lung.org/Healthy-EfficientHomes. Steps To Take Before Contractors Begin Work On Your Home Achieving your dream home through a remodeling project is an exciting prospect. Just ask the 55% of homeowners who reported renovating a part of their home in the past year. As eager as you are for the work to get started, taking the time to ensure the job is done smoothly, safely and securely is important. Before contractors begin, take the following steps first: 1. Ensure that any contractor working on and having access to your home is adequately insured and bonded should there be a mishap, injury on site, or damage to your property. It is appropriate to ask for your contractor’s license as well as proof of insurance, coverage limit details and a lien waiver. 2. Read the contract carefully and ensure it includes a construction schedule, detailed hard and soft cost estimates, and any other information that may be required by your city’s building inspection department, such as construction drawings or permitting plans.

Choose To Move: 5 Ways To Help Manage Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis and affects over 32.5 million U.S. adults. OA is a degenerative joint disease that causes pain and stiffness and can lead to limited function.
movement: • Regular physical activity can help maintain and improve movement and function, and reduce joint pain for people with OA. Physical therapists can prescribe a tailored, individual physical activity plan, which in addition to helping with OA symptoms, can also boost heart health and facilitate weight loss.
OA of the knee is the most common type, affecting more than 12 million Americans ages 65 and older. The signs and symptoms of OA can vary, but commonly include joint stiffness, pain during activity, and cracking or creaking noises around the joint. “Although there is no treatment that can reverse OA, physical therapy can help individuals manage the symptoms conservatively through appropriate and individualized exercise programs and other treatments provided by physical therapists,” said Rachel Prusynski, PT, DPT, PhD, a spokesperson for the American Physical Therapy Association. “Physical therapy may also help to prevent a worsening of OA and the need for invasive procedures and prescribed pain medications.”
Backed by research. Many studies have shown that physical therapy is effective in helping manage OA. Now, a new report released by the American Physical Therapy Association provides another reason to choose physical therapy for OA of the knee over commonly used steroid injections — the overall value that physical therapy delivers to patients and the health care system. In addition to saving health care dollars, physical therapy helps patients increase mobility, balance,
strength and flexibility, ultimately contributing to better health and lowering the risk of conditions that could require additional health care services down the road. People with OA should increase their physical activity routines more gradually than those without OA and should avoid high-impact exercises (think jumping or pounding movements on the joints). Prusynski suggests five ways to manage OA symptoms through
• Muscle strength training with exercises primarily aimed at the large muscle groups around the knee and hip joints. Muscle strengthening exercises include lifting weights or working with resistance bands. • Low-impact aerobics activities put less stress on the joints and include brisk walking, cycling, swimming, water aerobics, light gardening, certain group exercise classes and dancing. • Balance exercises like walking backward, standing on one foot and tai chi are important for those who are at risk of falling or who have trouble walking. Having OA
can increase your risk of falling, so it’s important to build your balance and strength. • Flexibility exercises like stretching and yoga are important for people with arthritis to reduce muscle tension and strain. Yoga can be modified for those with arthritis. Some people with OA have joint stiffness that makes daily tasks difficult. Doing daily flexibility exercises helps maintain your range of motion so you can keep doing everyday things like household tasks, hobbies and visiting with friends and family. Physical therapists are movement experts who improve quality of life through hands-on care and remote telehealth visits, patient education, and prescribed movement. They are important members of your health care team and often work closely with other health care providers, including your primary care physician. Not Commerce But Popularity, Growing Presence In LA Made Us Include Cricket In Olympic Games, Says IOC
(Continued From Page 01) According to Bach, the reason the organizing committee of the Los Angeles Olympic Games proposed it as an additional sport was cricket’s recent development as the fastest-growing team sport in the world and the potential the IOC sees in it.
“Let me make it clear, the commercial aspect is not a consideration for us. The first argument (in favor of cricket) is that we have seen the growing importance of cricket becoming one of the most popular sports worldwide. The second reason for LA to consider is that it had a growing presence in the United States,” Bach said.
“We have been given good advice by our IOC member from India, Nita Ambani, and we have also seen figures related to cricket in the last few years,” he said. In this regard, the IOC’s Director of Sports, Kit McConnell said the Organizing Committee for the Los Angeles Olympic Games had dis-
How To Overcome Job Hunt Burnout In Today’s Tough Market Job hunting can be exhausting and disheartening. Find things you can accomplish that help you feel productive and remind you what it feels like to win again. It could be getting in shape, completing a 5K, journaling for a month, or making five new daily connections on LinkedIn.
As the job search continues for unemployed Americans, a new national survey reveals a massive case of job hunt burnout. The Insight Global survey, conducted among recently unemployed American adults actively seeking employment, found that a competitive job market, a lack of applicable jobs, low self-confidence and an inability to interview well are all contributing factors in job candidates’ lack of success in securing employment. Fifty-five percent of respondents have been searching for a new job for so long that they are completely burnt out, and many are willing to take drastic measures to save and make money in the meantime: More than 2 in 5 would live at home with their parents; the same amount would rather create an Etsy business or thrift flip than send out another blast of resumes, and of Gen Z respondents, 44% admit they would rather get a sugar daddy or sugar mommy than apply to more jobs. “It’s no wonder that so many unemployed Americans are feeling unmotivated – between several years of a volatile job market,
headcount reductions, budget cuts, hiring freezes and a total overhaul of the way companies are running their businesses, it can feel downright impossible to get back on track,” says Bert Bean, CEO of Insight Global, a leading national staffing company. To beat job hunting burnout and get back in the game, Bean recommends the following tips: • Rethink Remote: Of millennials surveyed, 21% feel they’re still unemployed because they will only apply to remote job opportunities. To greatly expand your options, be open to hybrid and on-site work opportunities. • Stand Out: Over a quarter of those seeking full-time work feel that there are no jobs available for their skill set or there is too much competition for available jobs. To stand out in the crowd, get creative. Whether it’s creating an interactive resume, dropping by the office for a quick hello, or just not stopping until you hear back, doing whatever it takes to get your foot in the door improves your chances of success. • Find Small Wins:
• Don’t Write Anything Off: Interestingly, 26% of men surveyed said they are still unemployed because the jobs they hear back from are beneath them. Leave preconceived notions like this at the door. Many companies offer opportunities for promotions and upskilling, so look past the specific outlined role and imagine future possibilities with that organization. • Reach for Resources: When trying to get back in the workforce, don’t go at it alone. Companies like Insight Global can help you shape up your resume, brush up on interview skills, boost your confidence and connect you with companies and opportunities that fit the bill. Leverage events like the Be The Light tour, Insight Global’s freeto-attend mobile career center in select cities around the country. Accepting help from professionals will put you in a better position for landing a job. To learn more, and for additional tips and resources, visit insightglobal.com. “While searching for employment that fulfills your professional goals can feel overwhelming, changing the narrative and thinking about the market in new ways can connect you with additional opportunities and position you to succeed,” says Bean. cussions with professional cricket leagues like the Indian Premier League and Major League Cricket to get their inputs about the sport. Asked whether the IOC will go ahead with cricket at LA 2028 even if the top players are not involved, Bach first termed it as a hypothetical question but went on to say that he believes that the best players in the world are enthusiastic about playing in the Olympics. “At this moment, we have every reason to believe that the best players are enthusiastic about participating in the Olympic Games,” Bach said during a press conference on the second day of the 141st IOC Session here on October 16. The IOC president was also asked whether Afghanistan, which has disbanded its women’s cricket team since the Taliban came into power, will be allowed to play in the men’s tournament only if they qualify, Bach said there is enough time for Afghanistan to have a women’s cricket team too.
pressed in the Olympic Charter, the IOC has good relations with professional leagues around the world
as part of the new initiative. He, however, made it clear that the contact with such leagues has been through the respective international federation. “We want to improve our relations with the professional leagues and do this in cooperation with International Federations.
“We have seen recently that Afghanistan’s contingent at the Asian Games in Hangzhou had a significant number of female participants.
This happens very well with basketball where we are in good contact with the NBA and doing this in cooperation with FIBA (International Basketball Federation), which has led to very positive development for basketball worldwide and in the Olympics.
So, there has been some development. We are closely monitoring the situation,” he said, adding that he had a fruitful discussion with some of Afghanistan’s female athletes when he visited the Athletes Village in Hangzhou. Bach also said that the IOC as ex-
We would like to have similar relations with other sports. In this regard, I met the NFL Commission during my recent visit to the US and met the league through the International Ice Hockey Federation recently,” Bach said. (Courtesy: https://indiawest.com/)

Stroke risks
As the second leading cause of death worldwide, according to World Health Organization, stroke will affect 1 in 4 adults over the age of 25 globally. A condition where the blood supply to the brain is disrupted, a stroke results in oxygen starvation, brain damage and loss of function. There are two main types of strokes: ischemic, which occur when a blood vessel carrying oxygen and nutrients to the brain is blocked by a clot, and hemorrhagic, which are less common but can be more serious, occur when a weakened blood vessel ruptures and begins leaking blood. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 87% of strokes are ischemic. Because a stroke can cause lasting disability and pain for those impacted and their loved ones, it’s important to learn how to identify the signs and symptoms of stroke, how to reduce risk factors and where to go for timely treatment. Consider this information from the experts at Cerenovus, who are committed to changing the trajectory of stroke and offering a broad portfolio of devices used in the endovascular treatment of stroke, to learn more. Know the Signs and Symptoms If you suspect yourself or a loved one is experiencing a stroke, acting F.A.S.T. is critical in getting timely treatment necessary to survive. If you recognize the signs and symptoms of a stroke – face weakness, arm weakness and speech slurring – it’s time to call for help. How Small Businesses Can Retain Customer Loyalty This Holiday Season
Small business loyalty is on the rocks, according to a new study that finds that consumers are feeling more love for big retail brands this holiday season. The study, from cloud-based accounting platform Xero, found that while 27% of consumers feel loyal to big retail brands, only 14% feel loyal to small businesses.
As the holiday season approaches, Xero is sharing these tips and survey insights to holiday-proof operations and keep customers satisfied: • Keep delivery affordable: According to the Xero survey, 25% of survey respondents believe that delivery should always be free, regardless of original purchase price. “Free delivery is an effective way to build customer loyalty, so offer it if you can. Show your passion and small biz credentials in your branding and packaging. Don’t be shy about asking for reviews and referrals, as they’re key to building trust. And when you’re criticized online, always respond respectfully.
“With a game plan that combines strategic actions, responsive communication and adaptability, small businesses can compete with the big box stores, and win customer hearts and minds over the holidays,” says Richmond. (StatePoint)
• Return-proof your products:
“For a small business owner who launched their business because of a passion, identifying ways to gain customer loyalty can be overwhelming. Fortunately, our data provides insights into tactics that small businesses can take to nurture ongoing relationships with customers,” says Ben Richmond, chartered accountant and U.S. country manager at Xero.

shopping early and set their expectations with cut-off dates for when the last orders can be delivered in time for the holidays.
If free shipping isn’t viable for your business, keep this fee low -- 30% said spending $21-$50 for delivery was agreeable. To bring down shipping costs, consider using shipping brokerages or building shipping into your pricing.
You may also want to consider diversifying your supply and distribution channels by looking to both local manufacturers and service providers, and also large delivery partners, so you have options to fall back on if links in the chain are disrupted.
• Make delivery fast: At a point in the year when timing truly matters, it’s a good idea to offer express shipping. Thirty percent of consumers want their items faster, plus this allows you to charge for expedited shipping. On this front, customers appreciate communication. Encourage them to start seasonal
• Make shopping convenient: Match big retailer convenience by accepting multiple payment options, including e-wallets and by offering your products online. According to the survey, 50% of consumers are buying more online now post-pandemic, so it’s a good idea to meet them where they are.
Include detailed descriptions and pictures of your products to minimize returns. At the same time, consider offering more lenient policies for holiday-related returns. This both increases customer loyalty as well as extends the amount of time a return may impact your bottom line, as an extended period can allow for a slower trickle of negative growth. • Use tech: Have a pulse-check on your cash flow by leaning into technology, like Xero’s cloud-based accounting platform, to automate tasks, manage inventory and track transactions in real-time. Technology investments can help ensure you’re constantly aware of how much return loss is acceptable per month as you plan inventory needs. Check out the full study in Xero’s

Panchatantra Stories The Talkative Turtle Atalkative turtle called Tom lived in a lake deep inside a forest. He would talk all day long with anyone- from tiny ants to giant elephants. But Tom liked to talk most with his best friends-a pair of geese called Bo and Mo. The three friends lived in the same lake. One day, they noticed that the water in the lake was drying up. It hadn’t rained all year. Many animals in the forest were leaving the forest in search of water. Bo and Mo decided to leave too. With a heavy heart, they came to say goodbye to Tom. “But why are you saying goodbye?” asked Tom “Without water, there soon won’t be any fish in the lake. I too want to leave.” “We
would love to take you along,” Bo said sadly. “But you cannot fly. How will you come with us?” “Oh, that’s not a problem. We just have to find a sturdy log of wood. You hold the log with your beaks and fly. I will hold on to the wood with my mouth. That way we can
all leave together,” Tom said. Mo looked worried, “That’s a nice plan. But Tom you love to talk. When we are up in the air you can’t open your mouth.” Tom laughed, “I can keep quiet when it’s important. Let’s go guys!
It’ll be an adventure.” The three friends left the next morning. Tom was excited. He had lived all his life on the ground. Now he could see mountains from a height. Even the tall elephants looked tiny from the sky. He wanted to discuss all this with his friends. But remembering Mo’s words, he kept his mouth shut. The three soon passed over a village. The villagers had seen geese fly before. But never had they seen geese flying with a log of wood between their beaks. “What is that?” the villagers shouted, “Is that a ball they are carrying?” asked one villager. “No, no. It’s a bundle of clothes,” shouted another. “Hey, what will geese do with clothes,” laughed another. Tom was confused. “What are these
villagers blabbering?” he wanted to ask. But the moment he opened his mouth, he dropped straight to the ground. He hit his head on a rock and fell unconscious. When Tom opened his eyes, he saw Bo and Mo standing over him. Seeing Tom’s confusion, Bo spoke, “You fell when you opened your mouth even though we had asked you to keep it shut.” “The villagers were kind. They took care of you and then left you near a lake,” said Mo. Tom looked around. They were at a beautiful lake. “I think this is a nice place to call home, isn’t it?” the geese asked Tom. But Tom had learnt his lesson. He simply nodded without opening his mouth.

Erie Insurance offers affordable and flexible life insurance plans to make certain you get what you want for your family. Take the time to find out how much insurance you need by visiting ErieInsurance.com/life-insurance/ calculator. Hint: Ask your insurance agent about bundling your home, auto and life insurance – it may be able to save you money. 3. Apply for your baby’s Social Security number and birth certificate. Social Security numbers (SSN) and birth certificates are not automatically generated upon birth. Nurses or the hospital will more than likely offer you the steps to apply for your baby’s SSN and to fill out the birth certificate. However, it is important to complete these items promptly to avoid a delay or issues in adding your baby as a dependent on tax forms, health plans and more. 4. Add your baby to your health plan and benefits. Most insurance plans allow 30 to 60 days to add your new baby to a health plan so that the birth and continued care are covered. Be sure to add your new dependent or the hospital might bill the full amount for your stay. Contacting your health insurance provider is the easiest way to ensure your new dependent is added.
Hint: Before your baby is born, compare health plans to see which insurance plan will cover more birth and postnatal costs. 5. Start saving for college. It’s no secret that student loan debt is out of control. Putting away a set amount of money each month into a secure account can set up your child with a healthy debt-free financial future. If your child chooses to take an alternative path, they can use that money for a down payment on their first home. Be sure to discuss with an accountant the different longterm savings options available. As new parents, you can provide all the TLC required for your new bundle of joy, but following these five steps will help set up you and your baby for success, no matter what life throws at you. Fast Facts About Healthy Skin And Coat Care For Dogs The condition and appearance of your dog’s skin and coat can serve as outward indicators of his or her overall health. While grooming is one of the most important steps to maintaining a healthy coat, other factors can play a role in the look and feel of your four-legged friend’s fur. For example, dull, dry or flaky coats can be external indicators of internal issues. Stress, illness and inadequate nutrition can all lead to lackluster fur. Breed can also play a role in the shininess of your pet’s coat. To get a better understanding of how you can improve your pet’s skin and coat, consider these facts and misperceptions from the experts at Petcurean, makers of the Go! Solutions line of premium pet food. Fiction: Frequent washing dries out dogs’ skin and coats. Regularly bathing your dog removes dirt, dander, debris and odors, and can help clear irritationcausing allergens. However, bathing too frequently removes natural oils, which keep skin supple and the coat soft and pliable. For best results, use a high-quality pet shampoo that’s gentle on the skin and coat then follow up with a
nourishing conditioner for smooth, shiny fur. Fact: Dogs should be groomed regularly. Regular brushing with proper tools – sometimes as often as daily – is important. Not only can it help prevent matting in long-haired or double-coated dogs, it also stimulates blood flow to the skin, which helps keep it healthy, and ensures you notice any changes in your pet’s skin and coat. Grooming should also include cleaning ears, brushing teeth and trimming nails. Fiction: Poor hydration does not affect skin or coat. Fresh, clean water is essential for all bodily functions, including the maintenance of healthy skin. To help keep dogs hydrated, be sure fresh water is available to them, particularly at mealtimes. Fact: Flea and tick control is essential for healthy skin and shiny coats. If not controlled, fleas and ticks can wreak havoc on skin, which in turn affects coat quality. The irritation they cause typically promotes excessive scratching and licking. Fiction: Dogs don’t need to use pet shampoo.
Human skin and hair are different from the skin and fur of dogs and should be treated as such. Shampoo designed for humans can strip oils and lead to dryness when used on dogs, which can result in infections and skin irritations. Be sure to use a shampoo specifically formulated for pets to maintain skin and coat health. Fact: A high-quality, balanced pet food recipe is key to healthy skin and a shiny coat. Because every dog is dif- f e r e n t and has varied energy requirements, the right blend of ingredients – rather than any one specific ingredient – tailored for individual dogs can help achieve healthy skin and shiny coats. For example, recipes like Go! Solutions Skin + Coat Care Large Breed Puppy and Adult Salmon Recipes with Grains are tailor-made for large breed puppies and adults with single-source animal protein from salmon to help build strong muscles; Omega fatty acids to support healthy, hydrated skin and a shiny coat; and the proper balance of nutrients to meet the unique needs of large breed dogs throughout their life stages. Holiday Hazard Prevention: Steps To A Safe And Accident-Free Season As the holidays approach, you might be hosting guests, shopping for gifts and decorating your home. While all these activities can bring a lot of joy into the season, they can also bring an increase in risks. Prepare by following these six tips to prevent damage. 1. Install a smart doorbell. Whether you want to see who just arrived or help keep packages secure, a smart doorbell will keep you updated on all activities in front of your home. From trick-or-treaters to carolers, you can easily view (and communicate) with your visitors, even if you aren’t home. 2. Decorate carefully. As pretty as those lights might be, they can be a tripping hazard. What’s more, overheating lights can trigger a fire in seconds, especially in a dry environment, such as near a parched tree. On Erie Insurance’s YouTube channel, they show how fast a Christmas tree goes up in flames and have tips on how to avoid fires, including to check string lights for any frayed wires and to always turn off lights when you aren’t home. 3. Prepare for the unexpected. As temperatures drop, prepare your home for potential damage. Bad weather can trigger a weak tree to fall, potentially on your house, while cold temperatures can cause frozen pipes, which could cost thousands of dollars in water damage if the pipes burst. Be sure to keep your homeowners insurance up to date so you are prepared should any seasonal damage occur. To prevent that damage and a costly claim, survey your property and even call-in experts to check trees, pipes and other possible hazards. 4. Stay safe on the road. The winter season carries driving risks. Not only may roads be slick and icy, but holiday shoppers are often stressed and frazzled. On roads, and particularly in shopping centers and mall parking lots, slow down and stay alert to avoid a fender-bender. As an added precaution, be sure to keep your auto insurance up to date in case of damage. Your insurance company might offer options to help you tighten your wallet during an expensive season. For example, Erie Insurance offers convenient bundling of car and home insurance to potentially save you money. 5. Mingle merry--and safely. Holiday parties can be fun, but make sure you have a plan for getting home safely. And if you’re hosting the party, be aware that in most states party hosts can be held liable for their guests’ actions behind the wheel. So be sure your guests have a safe ride home. 6. Be smart online. If you’d rather keep your comfy pants on and do your holiday shopping online, be aware of where your data might be susceptible and only shop on reputable sites. An ERIE’s homeowner policy includes identity recovery coverage that can help you if you are the unfortunate victim of identity fraud. Whether you are having a party or going on a shopping spree, being safe and prepared for the holidays is key to avoiding any accidents, injuries and incidents. (StatePoint)

Scientists Detect 8 Billion-YearOld Radio Burst. It’s A Mystery Radio wave signals from outer space — first detected in 1932 by engineer Karl Jansky — show that the tranquil night sky is not tranquil at all. “The sky looks serene and calm, but if you look in the radio bands, extremely energetic phenomena are taking place in the universe,” Poonam Chandra, an astronomer at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Charlottesville, Virginia, previously told Mashable. Black holes, exploding stars, forming stars, and beyond, shoot out energy in the form of radio waves into the universe. Yet one type of radio wave detection remains mysterious, though astronomers have leading theories. These signals are called “fast radio bursts,” or FRBs, which are curious pulses of radio waves that last milliseconds, and then vanish. Researchers have now determined the source of the most distant fast radio burst ever detected. It took a whopping 8 billion years to reach Earth. “In new research published in Science, we have found the most distant fast radio burst ever detected: an 8-billion-year-old pulse that has been travelling for more than half the lifetime of the universe,” Ryan Shannon, an astronomer at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia and an author of the research, wrote online. The researchers found this fast radio burst, dubbed “FRB 20220610A,” using the sprawling Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) radio telescope. Astronomers don’t listen to radio waves, but use large satellite dishes, or arrays of many satellite dishes, to collect these signals, often coming from far-off galaxies. This recent quick burst seemed to come from a great distance away, but to confirm, the team followed up on the location of the FBR with the Very Large Telescope, located in the high Chilean mountains. This observatory contains optical telescopes that see visible light, and astronomers indeed located “faint smudges of light” — evidence of an extremely distant galaxy. This light wave had stretched over time as the universe expanded, and that amount of stretching showed it was a whopping 8 billion years old. “This confirmed that FRB 20220610A had broken the record for the most distant fast radio burst,” Shannon said. All You Need To know About The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Ten teams vie for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, hosted by India from October 5 to November 19 International cricket’s biggest tournament is set to get under way in India on October 5. A blockbuster clash between the 2019 finalists England and New Zealand will kick off the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s Cricket World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad that day.
and breadth of the country, from Chennai in the south to Dharamshala in the north, Kolkata in the east, to Ahmedabad in the west. The host cities are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Dharamshala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune. India vs Pakistan
Ahead of the final, the biggest game of the Cricket World Cup – or any cricket tournament involving the two teams – will undoubtedly be India versus Pakistan.
Pakistan’s participation in the tournament and their travel plans to India have been subject to the thorny ties between the two neighbours.
The marquee match takes place on October 14 in Ahmedabad. Indian media reports say online tickets were sold out in less than an hour of being released. India hold a 7-0 lead
The Pakistan team’s departure and tournament preparations were disrupted by visa delays from India.
The tournament will run for 46 days and will see 10 teams vying for the men’s one-day international (ODI) cricket championship in the final on November 19. Here’s what you need to know about the 2023 Cricket World Cup: Teams and qualification The 10 teams featuring at this year’s event are India, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Two-time winners, the West Indies, are a shock omission after failing to grab one of the nine qualification spots. India gained an automatic spot as the host nation, while the other nine countries had to go through a qualification process spread over three years in multiple stages and smaller tournaments. Seven teams – including defending champions England – qualified on the basis of their standings in the ICC Super League which ran from July 2020 to May 2023. The Netherlands and Sri Lanka took the final two spots after coming out on top in the knockout qualification stage earlier this year. Format and schedule The first stage of the ODI tournament will be a round-robin format where all teams will play each other once, resulting in 45 matches. The first phase will conclude on November 12 with a match between India and Netherlands in Bengaluru. The top four teams at the end of the roundrobin stage will qualify for the semifinals. The teams finishing first and fourth will play the first semifinal on November 15 in Mumbai, while the second and third teams will meet in the second semifinal on November 16 in Kolkata. However, if Pakistan qualify for the semifinals, they will play the match in Kolkata irrespective of their ranking in the table; and if India qualify, they will play in Mumbai. If both teams clash in the semifinal, the match will be played in Kolkata. India’s Modi hosts Australia PM at stadium named after him. Venues Matches will be spread all over the length
Tickets The ICC has released tickets for the tournament in batches, with the latest being both the semifinals and the final which have sold out. Cricket fans have complained about the inaccessibility of tickets for local and travelling supporters, all while the Indian cricket chief Jay Shah has handed out so-called “golden tickets” to Indian film and cricket celebrities.
over their bitter rivals when it comes to results at the Cricket World Cup. With their latest meeting at the Asia Cup also going India’s way, the hosts will be favourites playing at home. Controversies In advance of the October 5 inauguration, the tournament has been marred by various controversies related to its management, scheduling and liaison for participating teams and fans. The tournament schedule was announced 100 days before the first match, drawing derision from fans who made comparisons with how other major sports events release their schedules months and sometimes years in advance.

‘Leo’ Movie Review In Lokesh Kanagaraj we trust. You have witnessed the inspiring evolution of a filmmaker in four films. You are naturally soaked with all the pre-release fanfare, drama, fan theories, ticket-buying frenzy and whatnot. You have shuffled around all the pieces of information like a puzzle to set just the right expectations. And yet, when you step into Leo, if you forget all that and are overcome by euphoria — a joy that trickles down to your belief in a filmmaker’s vision — it’s largely because of the trust and goodwill he has earned. But the trust, unfortunately, gets tested at times. Leo, starring Vijay, is a test of faith for Lokesh and his audiences. He attempts an ingenious re-telling of David Cronenberg’s 2005 drama A History of Violence, a story about a smalltown family man forced to put up a fervent fight against despicable men chasing after his blood. It’s a done-to-dust routine, partly reminiscent of even Vijay’s own Theridirected by Atlee, but in the hands of a filmmaker who made Kaithi and Vikram, the narrative finds fresh opportunity to be pushed to its limits and become a pure-genre
ter Chintu (Iyal) who likes to dance with her dad.
Lokesh Kanagaraj actioner. Lokesh loads this potent outline with several (action) genre treats as gunpowder, the performer in Vijay as ammunition, and shoots it with a lot of filmmaking fury... only to miss. It’s also apparent where he misses the target. Lokesh justifiably has a lot to do in setting up the world of Parthiban (Vijay), a bakery owner and part-time animal rescuer living the quiet small-town life in Theog, Himachal Pradesh. A wonderfullyconceived and designed scene of a hyena rescue sets the mood for what’s about to come to Parthi, and his family that includes a concerned wife Sathya (Trisha), a son with teenage angst Siddharth (Mathew Thomas), and his daugh-
If the hyena rescue shows us what we are to believe of our hero, what sets the stage for this character is a show-stealing scene at his bakery, when a bunch of reckless hoodlums (played by Mysskin, Sandy and others) wreak havoc. A scene that Cronenberg and writer Josh Olson built purely to infuse nerve-wracking tension in their film gets an outright Lokesh treatment, right from the stereo playing 90s Tamil songs like ‘Karu Karu Karupayi’ and ‘Thamarai Poovukkum’ to close-ups tapering into Vijay’s face before what we know is coming. Interestingly, Leo also delves even deeper than A History of Violence into an innocent man’s psyche after his family is exposed to a nasty world. While Lokesh continues to build all he has to, you get a hint of worry that the story still hasn’t
introduced the chief antagonists —Antony Das (Sanjay Dutt) and his brother Harold Das (Arjun) — who believe that Parthi could possibly be the formerly-presumed dead Leo Das (an uber-cool Vijay). You wonder if the remaining runtime could sustain the expectations from the anticipated flashback as well as the character arcs of the Das family. Lokesh’s Leo, to much disappointment, derails here, becoming his weakest film to date. It loses out on the whole “Who is Leo Das and why did he turn against his own people?” question, the pillar on which the entire film rests. And you never really care for any of the Das gangster squadron. Even a stunningly-conceived car chase sequence (unlike anything on Tamil screens before) cannot save this actioner from losing its zeal; the many boring knife fights only dampen it further. Furthermore, Lokesh might have teased us with what he could do with the romance angle in the beginning, but the emotional beats and Sathya’s character arc wither away before long. The filmmaker does manage to tap into the performer in Vijay — the
star delivers what the scenes demand — but scene-writing blues can cut deep; it’s disappointing that Lokesh the writer (Rathna Kumar and Deeraj Vaidy share credits with him in Leo) who we are familiar with from Vikram, delivers this substandard attempt at what could have been a fascinating character study. Only the excitement to witness Kamal Haasan and Vijay — the stars — together on-screen remains, but will we be really invested in watching Parthiban enter the world of Vikram? How Lokesh will carry the story forward with five leading stars in the game remains to be seen. The end credits soundtrack, the ‘I’m Scared’ surprise zinger, and the many callbacks to Vikram prove that composer Anirudh Ravichander remains the heartbeat of Lokesh’s Cinematic Universe. Leo might have missed the mark, but the impact of Lokesh’s previous films is such that the audiences will continue to bat for him. In Lokesh, we still believe... for now.
