As per the latest reports, another set of conspiracy theorists have come up with the idea that our Earth is a hollow sphere. That means they are claiming that our Earth is neither round nor flat, rather it is a hollow sphere. In an article published in the Daily Mail, a new, growing community of conspiracy theorists has suggested that our Earth is Hollow and at its center, there is a paradise where many ‘superior’ alien humans, Nazis and Vikings live. Although, majority of the people believe that our Earth is round, but now, a couple of conspiracy theorist groups have come up with different shapes of our Earth like the Earth is flat like a disk or hollow from within. Those people who believe that the Earth is hollow are called the hollow-Earthers. After analyzing an ancient map these hollow-Earthers, are now convinced that there is a road inside our Earth which leads to the paradise. They also believe that UFOs and flying saucers are sent from the interior of the globe by ‘guardians of the planet’ to keep an eye on the human race and prevent potential nuclear war. 3 Reasons To Consider Refinancing Your Auto Loan

Can you reduce your monthly costs by lowering your rate? Compare your current interest rate to those
• Tight monthly budgets: If you need to make some room in your budget due to changing life circumstances or simply have a desire to sock more money away into savings, refinancing your auto loan is a move that may have a substantial impact on your finances. For example, those who have refinanced their vehicles through Clearlane, Ally’s online auto financing platform, have reduced their monthly payments by an average of $112. • Reducing the term:
finance their auto loan, according to a study by Harris Poll for Ally Financial. It’s a simple task that could reduce your car payments by about $1,300 a year. The following considerations can help you determine whether refinancing your auto loan is the right step for you. • Interest rates:
advertised. Keep in mind that there are several aspects of your financial history that may have impacted your interest rate for a loan, including credit score and credit history. If your credit score has significantly increased since you financed your vehicle, it may be time to refinance to a lower interest rate.
Another reason many choose to refinance is to reduce the number of payments they will have to make, with the goal of reducing the total amount of interest paid over the course of the loan. This may appeal to you if you can now afford a higher monthly payment than when you purchased your vehicle, thanks to a raise or new stream of income. If you choose to refinance, be sure to review your loan agreement and

Earth Is Hollow And Aliens, Vikings, Nazis Live Beneath The Surface, New Theory (Continued From Page 01) Currently, the community of hollow-Earthers is headed by author Rodney Cluff, and he believes they their supporters are growing in numbers. Mr. Cluff said, “More and more people are coming to terms with the fact that the Earth is hollow. I get emails from people learning about it every day. It’s definitely growing in popularity – certainly not in the millions but maybe in the thousands.” In 2007, Cluff had planned a voyage to the hollow Earth through an opening in the North Pole, but later, he canceled the plan. Now he claims that there two openings into the inner Earth near the poles and one in the Himalayas. According to him, at the center of the Earth, there is a paradise in which superhumans are there, and they are joined by the Nazis from World War II and the lost Viking colonies. Inside the Earth also, there is the sun that is divided by day and night sides. Cluff said that he believes that the shell of the Earth is around 800 miles thick, from the outside to the inner surface. Cluff is against the claim made by the flat-Earthers. “I don’t know how the flat-Earthers can be so confused. They are obviously wrong. The world is not flat – it’s hollow. They reject all the evidence,” he said. Unlike, the flat-Earthers, the hollow-Earthers believe that our Earth is spherical but with a hollow body. Their conspiracy theories also suggest that the moon, the stars, the Sun, and other planets are all hollow bodies.

But be they scarves, jackets or socks, the trend in this winter’s clothing staples is all about putting a fun twist on classics when dressing for seasonal weather. Here are some head-totoe fashion tips for both men and women, as brands and designers focus on basics with an interesting edge.
And looped traditionally around your neck, longer scarves become, well, simply scarves designed to keep your neck and upper body warm when the mercury dips.
And making a bold resurgence are denim jackets, as this rugged fabric proves to be a nice defense against cool breezes, especially with a proper lining.
Jackets
Denim jackets are now coming in a variety of styles and lengths -from short to long, straight edged to frilly.

perts, enabling the wearer to style them with versatility to create different looks with the same garment.
For men, outerwear is trending towards quilted or padded, and traditional jackets are being outfitted
with a bit more of an edge in oversized proportions. Think classic with a twist or business attire with attitude. Socks In keeping with the theme of basics with a twist, think fashion-forward socks. Whether it’s rich shades, jewel toned patterns, knit boot socks, or not so basic black, brands like iconic Gold Toe, are churning out on-trend accessories for the season. For instance, everyone has heard of the Little Black Dress, so Gold Toe is introducing the Little Black Sock -- a collection of women’s socks that offer styles featuring scalloped edges, stripes and subtle patterns. These wardrobe staples come in a variety of toe covers, luxury trouser socks and lavish crews, with styles made from lace, prima cotton and microfiber, to name a few. And the brand’s new Fairisle Crew
is a traditional boot sock that has a touch of bright colors as a fun nod to sweater season. When it comes to men’s socks, the season is bringing with it a blend of style and innovation. For instance, the Gold Toe Fashion Singles feature a number of bold autumn shades that incorporate Fresh 24/7 technology to help prohibit the growth of bacteria that causes odor. These styles are fashionably flexible and can be dressed up or down no matter the occasion. With colorful stripes, novelty prints and winter patterns, these socks can step up your wardrobe this season. More information about men’s and women’s socks for the season is available at www.goldtoe.com. Deep Vein Thrombosis: A Pain That Cannot Be Ignored
Fifty-three-year-old Bernie McKay never would have guessed that the pain he thought was a simple muscle cramp was actually a serious medical condition that could have stopped him in his tracks forever.
bolism, a serious and potentially deadly condition.
chronic pain and swelling called post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS).
Doctors typically diagnose DVT
Another treatment option that physicians may consider for their patients is a medical procedure called a mechanical thrombectomy. This procedure can help quickly restore blood flow by removing the clot altogether, thus reducing the amount and duration of medications a patient needs to take, and may help prevent future complications.
Bernie, who leads an active lifestyle and works in a hospital, experienced severe cramping in the back of his left thigh one morning while walking into work. The pain became so severe that he rushed himself to the emergency department, knowing that something wasn’t right. After a series of consultations and tests, he was diagnosed as having deep vein thrombosis, or DVT. DVT affects approximately 900,000 people in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and while a clot can form anywhere, it usually occurs in the legs or pelvis. Sometimes part of the blood clot can break off and travel to your lungs, which can cause a pulmonary em-
through tests such as an ultrasound or blood tests. First line of treatment can consist of medications and compression stockings, but these options don’t actually remove or dissolve the clot. Many DVT blood clots can be absorbed by the body over time with the help of blood thinners; however, as long as the clot is present, it can cause permanent damage to the valves in the vein, leading to
“Recent medical advances are allowing more and more patients to have blood clots removed using minimally invasive procedures,” said Dr. Kush Desai, Northwestern Memorial Hospital. “Some patients, like Bernie, may
be candidates for a mechanical thrombectomy, which uses a special catheter designed to help break up and physically remove all or portions of the clot.” Only half of the people who develop DVT experience any symptoms, such as swelling, pain or tenderness in a leg with skin that’s warm and red or discolored. However, there are risk factors that you should be aware of as they can increase your chances of developing DVT: • Treatment for cancer; • Prolonged lack of movement such as long distance travel or long periods of bed rest; • A personal or family history of blood clots; • Older age; • Pregnancy. Understanding the risk factors and being aware of various treatment options can help reduce your chance of developing a dangerous blood clot and the serious health complications that may be associ-
ated with it. “With such a short recovery time, the procedure allowed me to spend time with my family and friends -without having to take medications for the rest of my life,” said Bernie. “I’m more active than I was before, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.” There are risks associated with all medical procedures. Talk with your doctor about the risks and benefits associated with mechanical thrombectomy. For more information visit ClearingtheClot.com or the Clearing the Clot Facebook community, patient resources developed by Boston Scientific. For more information, visit bostonscientific.com. Take control of your health to help decrease your chances of developing DVT by understanding the risks and treatment options available. (StatePoint)

“Using PainScale has motivated me to track my pain more consistently, which gives my doctor a better understanding of what I am experiencing, rather than relying strictly on memory.
For Elizabeth Newman, a 57-year old Chicago native, chronic pain is a way of life and a challenge she shares with more than 100 million Americans.
That helps us connect in how we manage it,” says Newman.
Newman’s chronic pain started after an accident that resulted in a herniated disk and nerve damage that affects her legs and arm. She also has seven fused vertebrae, a spinal surgery that more than 400,000 Americans have every year. While millions of Americans rely on medications such as opioids to treat their chronic pain, Newman has started using a new mo-
Patients can share information from the app with their physicians who may decide to use the information to tailor a treatment plan and assess what may not be working with their current approach.
“Every day I read articles on the app and bookmark those that I find helpful so that I can stay up-to-date on information about my condition and learn about new approaches.” The app and website Newman recently discovered is called PainScale, which offers digital tools that modernize how we understand and communicate about pain.
and activity levels. It also provides general information about treatment options and how to connect with a pain specialist in the area.
The free app, which was developed with support from Boston Scientific, provides a range of tools, including a customized daily newsfeed that is personalized to each user based on his or her pain diagnosis, as well as the opportunity
to learn about treatment options, exercises, medications and nutritional tips that may help improve quality of life. It also allows users to connect and share their treatment experiences and gain insights on how others have managed their pain. For more information and to download the app, visit PainScale.com. Digitizing the traditional one to 10 pain scale that physicians have relied on for decades to characterize patients’ pain is simplifying the way pain is tracked to keep up with the 21st century. 5 Reasons To Consider A Home Theater System Now
When it comes to entertaining ourselves at home, there are more options than ever before. Whether you are looking to upgrade your family’s existing movie night experience or you are just getting started in assembling a home theater system, here are five reasons to consider doing so now. 1. There is more media available. With so many streaming services accessible, more movies and shows are available at your fingertips than ever before, making it possible to instantly enjoy everything from recent blockbusters to classic favorites to a marathon of your favorite
TV series.
Today’s high-quality tech makes it
theater-like experience at home. For example, the projectors from Casio’s LampFree line-up offer quick, easy set-up and reliable, brilliant images that include models that work well in any size room or home theater. 3. It allows you to get cozy. When the weather outside is frightful, why head to a drafty movie theater? Nothing beats staying-in and enjoying the comfort of your own home -- you can even wear your PJs if you want!
2. You can find high-quality tech.
possible to get an upgraded movie
4. You can make it a party. With a home theater system, you can
invite all your friends and family over for movie nights. Ask everyone to bring a treat inspired by the movie that you’ll be watching for some fun, quality time together. 5. You can save time. Sports practice, homework, the school play; your kids are busy and so are you, which means you may not always find time for the entire family to head to the movie theater for a specific showing. However, with a great theater in your own home, you can plan a spur-of-the-moment movie night whenever it works for your family. (StatePoint)
Small Changes In What You Eat Can Make A Big Difference Not everyone is inclined to think about the global impact of their food choices, particularly when they are not in their own kitchens. But experts say that average consumers can learn more about what’s on their plate and how it got there no matter who’s doing the cooking, and use this knowledge to make responsible choices.
“Unfortunately, there are still large companies holding back progress.” The U.S. foodservice industry represents approximately half of food-dollar spending outside of the home every day. With annual sales exceeding $700 billion, this growing industry has a tremendous impact on the environment and workers worldwide.

When it comes to seafood, a recently released report may provide some useful insights. The second edition of the “Sea of Distress” report by Greenpeace found that some foodservice industry players -- especially Sodexo, Aramark, and Compass Group -- have taken important steps toward protecting the oceans and workers, reducing their plastic footprint, ensuring transparency, and advocating for better practices at sea. While the majority of the fifteen companies assessed in the report failed the benchmarks set by Greenpeace, the report indicates that some of those companies are starting to work toward sustainable seafood, transparency, and advocacy for oceans and seafood industry workers. “It is a good sign that some key foodservice companies are moving in the right direction on sustainability for our oceans and the ethical treatment of workers,” says Greenpeace oceans campaigner, David Pinsky.

On a global scale it can sometimes feel like our small choices don’t make a big impact. But experts say that all consumers can make a difference with their words and their wallets. (StatePoint)

Seek Your Source of Ideas
Maybe you’re struck by the colors of the sunset in your family’s summer beach vacation photos or the amazing brick pattern you saw wandering through a historic neighborhood.
Been a while since you took a vacation? Don’t live in an architecturally awe-inspiring locale? Social media is a great proxy. In fact, of Americans who have done a home design project, 33 percent look to social media for inspiration. Just like the pros, create a design plan for your space, but make it easy by using a site like Pinterest. Create boards for color combinations, materials and textures that attract your eye, so you can define your ideal look. Many Pins are shoppable, making it simple to purchase your perfect home décor products with just a click.
Consider what colors and patterns grab you and evoke the feeling you want to have within your space. And once you find them, snap a photo and reference it as you’re designing.
While making design decisions, don’t worry about being “ontrend.” If you stay focused on what styles speak to you personally -- as well as the functionality your room needs to support -- you’ll create a space that feels uniquely yours.

5 Ways To Create Ambiance In Your Home
If your home interiors lack charm, don’t worry. These five simple additions and updates can add ambiance and character to your home. 1. Use bold colors. Colors have the power to create specific moods. To ensure a welcoming atmosphere, make sure you select shades wisely. The science behind color psychology can help you choose paint, upholstery and more. Warm colors like red, orange and yellow make people feel more cozy and intimate. Cooler colors like grey and green are better for invoking calm, and are used to make a room feel more spacious. 2. Add a touch of softness. Use plush, cozy materials, such as decorative pillows and throws to create inviting places to sit. Soften hard surfaces like wooden or tile floors with area rugs. Add some warmth to hallways and nar-
row foyers with runners. 3. Breathe new life into spaces. Indoor plants can give life to an otherwise stagnant living area. For those not blessed with a green thumb, consider artificial plants. High-quality options can look very realistic and will save you time on care and maintenance. Or, for variety, add a simple vase to the kitchen table and brighten up the room with a new bouquet of fresh cut flowers each week. 4. Make music. A piano brings a level of elegance to any room, but you don’t have to overspend to
get a beautiful sound or visual. New digital pianos reproduce the subtle nuances of the world’s finest grand pianos at various price points. For example, the Celviano Grand Hybrid Piano from Casio has the technology to produce an authentic grand piano experience, but doesn’t take up as much space or cost as much. Plus, since it’s digital, you won’t have to worry about maintenance and tuning. 5. Mood lighting. From candles to unique fixtures to bright open windows, the type of lighting used to illuminate a room sets its tone. Choose curtains and candles for cozy, romantic nights. Draw them open in the day for bright, sun-lit spaces. Install interesting fixtures as a focal point in empty hallways and in living spaces. (StatePoint)

Naiyya Saggi, a graduate of Harvard Business School, saw her sister struggling with the journey - spending copious amounts of time listening to random advice, browsing on Google, experimenting with different doctors, with day care. There simply wasn’t enough reliable information out there for new parents. It was clear there was a need for ‘technology disruption’ here, she says. This led to the birth of BabyChakra, an online platform that connects parents to experts and child care services, which Saggi founded in February 2015. This unique outreach event was the first of its kind for SEF, providing free on-site eye checkups and prescription glasses to underprivileged children in the Austin area. Over 70 children were provided with vision services to help alleviate their vision impairments, a feat made possible through the partnership of Sankara Eye Foundation with the Essilor Vision Foundation.
Sankara Eye foundation has pursued many such endeavors in the past, but never in the United States. Founded in 1998 by executive chairman Mr. K. Muralidharan, his brother K. Sridharan, and Ahmad Khushnood, Sankara Eye Foundation is an organization aiming to eradicate curable blindness in India. India has the highest population of the blind with 80 percent of these cases being curable. SEF provides over 150,000 free eye surgeries in India every year, and till date has provided over 1.6 million eye surgeries through their 8 hospitals located in India. Their mission is to reach out to the rural poor in India and provide cost free quality eye care to the needy by building eye care hospitals around this country. (Continued On Page 15)

Republic Day
(Continued From Page 01) It is one of three national holidays in India, the other two being Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti. India achieved independence from British raj on 15 August 1947 following the Indian independence movement noted for largely peaceful non-violent resistance and civil disobedience led by Mahatma Gandhi. The independence came through the Indian Independence Act 1947 (10 & 11 Geo 6 c 30), an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that partitioned British India into the two new independent Dominions of the British Commonwealth (later Commonwealth of Nations). India obtained its independence on 15 August 1947 as a constitutional
monarchy with George VI as head of state and the Earl Mountbatten as governor-general. The country, though, did not yet have a permanent constitution; instead its laws were based on the modified colonial Government of India Act 1935. On 28 August 1947, the Drafting Committee was appointed to draft a permanent constitution, with Dr B R Ambedkar as chairman. While India’s Independence Day celebrates its freedom from British Rule, the Republic Day celebrates the coming into force of its constitution. A draft constitution was prepared by the committee and submitted to the Assembly on 4 November 1947. The Assembly met, in sessions open
to public, for 166 days, spread over a period of two years, 11 months and 18 days before adopting the Constitution. After many deliberations and some modifications, the 308 members of the Assembly signed two hand-written copies of the document (one each in Hindi and English) on 24 January 1950. Two days later, it came into effect throughout the whole nation. The main Republic Day celebration is held in the national capital, New Delhi, at the Rajpath before the President of India. On this day, ceremonious parades take place at the Rajpath, which are performed as a tribute to India; its unity in diversity and rich cultural heritage. In 2016, on the occasion of the 67th Republic Day, the Protocol Department of the Government of
Maharashtra held its first parade on the lines of the Delhi Republic Day parade along the entire stretch of Marine Drive in Mumbai.

The parade showcases India’s Defence Capability, Cultural and Social Heritage.

Since 1950, India has been hosting head of state or government of another country as the state guest of honour for Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi. During 1950– 1954, Republic Day celebrations were organised at different venues (like Irwin Stadium, Kingsway, Red Fort and Ramlila Grounds). It was only starting 1955 when the parade in its present form was organised at Rajpath. The guest country is chosen after a deliberation of strategic, economic and political interests. During 1950s– 1970s, a number of NAM and Eastern Bloc countries were hosted by India. In 1968 and 1974, India played host to two countries on the same Republic Day.

Makar Sankranti
Makar Sankranti (also known as Makara Sankranti or Maghi) refers both to a specific solar day in the Hindu calendar and a Hindu festival in ref erence to deity Surya (sun) that is observed in January every year. It marks the first day of sun’s transit into the Makara (Capricorn), marking the end of the month with the winter solstice and the start of longer days. Makar Sankranti is one of the few ancient Hindu festivals that has been observed according to solar cycles, while most festivals are set by the lunar cycle of the lunisolar Hindu calendar. Being a festival that celebrates the solar cycle, it almost always falls on the same Gregorian date every year (January 14), except in rare years when the date shifts by a day for that year, because of the complexity of earthsun relative movement. The festivities associated with Makar Sankranti are known by vari-
ous names such as Lohri by north Indian Hindus and Sikhs, Sukarat in central India, Bhogali Bihu by Assamese Hindus, and Pongal by Tamil and other south Indian Hindus. Makar Sankranti is observed with social festivities such as colorful decorations, rural children going house to house, singing and asking for treats (or pocket money), melas (fair), dances, kite flying, bonfires and feast. The Magha Mela, according to Diana L. Eck – a professor at Harvard University specializing in Indology, is mentioned in the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata, thus placing this festival to be around 2,000 years old. Many go to sacred rivers or lakes and bathe with thanksgiving to the sun. Every twelve years, the Hindus observe Makar Sankranti with one of the world’s largest mass pilgrimage, with an estimated 40 to 100 million people attending for the event. At this event, they say a
prayer to the sun and bathe at the Prayaga confluence of the River Ganga and River Yamuna at the Kumbh Mela, a tradition attributed to Adi Shankara. Makar Sankranti is set by the solar cycle of the Hindu lunisolar calendar, and is observed almost always on 14 January, and signifies the arrival of longer days. Makar Sankranti falls in the Hindu calendar solar month of Makara, and lunar month of Magha. It marks the end of the month with winter solstice and the darkest night of the year, a month that is called Pausha in lunar system and Dhanu is solar system of Hindu time keeping methodology. The festival celebrates the first month with consistently longer days. The festival is dedicated to the Hindu sun god, Surya. This significance of Surya is traceable to the Vedic texts, particularly the Gayatri Mantra, a sacred hymn of Hinduism found in its scripture named the Rigveda.
The festival also marks the beginning of a six months auspicious period for Hindus known as Uttarayana period. Makar Sankranti is regarded as important for spiritual practices and accordingly people take a holy dip in rivers, especially Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Krishna and Cauvery. The bathing is believed to result in merit or absolution of past sins. They also pray to the sun and thank for their successes and prosperity. A shared cultural practices found amongst Hindus of various parts of India is making sticky, bound sweets particularly from sesame (til) and a sugar base such as jaggery (gud, gur). This type of sweet is a symbolism for being together in peace and joyfulness, despite the uniqueness and differences between individuals. For most parts of India, this period is a part of early stages of the Rabi crop and agricultural cycle, where crops have been sown and the hard work in the fields is mostly over.
The time thus signifies a period of socializing and families enjoying each other’s company, taking care of the cattle, and celebrating around bonfires. Makar Sankranti is an important pan-Indian solar festival, known by different names though observed on the same date, sometimes for multiple dates around the Makar Sankranti. It is known as Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Pedda Panduga in Andhra Pradesh, Biku in Assam, Magha Mela in parts of central and north India, as Makar Sankranti in the west, and by other names. It is celebrated differently across the Indian subcontinent. Many people take a dip in places like Ganga Sagar (the point where the river Ganges meets the Bay of Bengal) and Prayag and pray to the Sun God (Surya). It is celebrated with pomp in southern parts of India as Sankranti in Karnataka (Pongal in Tamil Nadu), and in Punjab as Maghi.

Sankara Eye Foundation Provides First Free Eye Clinic In Austin
(Continued From Page 12)
In addition to the eight existing
hospitals, SEF has inaugurated a 9th hospital in Jaipur this month with three more hospital construction projects in progress, expanding the quality and quantity of eye care services being provided to the underserved populations of India. In these hospitals, doctors can provide preventative, curative, and rehabilitative eye care in areas including but not limited to cataract eye disease, diabetic retinopathy, retinoblastoma, glaucoma, and amblyopia Sankara Eye Foundation has recently expanded this vision across international borders by hosting its first Free Eye Clinic in the United States, providing their vision services to underprivileged children from Pre-K to 5th grade.
This volunteer lead initiative was only possible due to the generous donations received during the Sankara Eye Foundation Fundraiser held to sponsor this clinic. Donations totaling around 3,000 dollars were used in its entirety to sponsor a mobile bus unit containing a lab and clinic provided by the Essilor Vision Foundation. The charitable work done by this organization allows millions of individuals with curable blindness and visual impairments to obtain an independent lifestyle and reintegrate themselves into society, a noble cause that many volunteers across India and America continually support. The local Austin SEF Chapter has stepped up to the challenge and helped further the goal of SEF by hosting Sankara Eye Foundation’s first free eye clinic in the United States. Wondering what options are out there? Here are six ways to add tech to your space. 1. Stay Cool and Comfortable. Certain smart thermostats on the market today intuitively understand when to turn on heating or cooling equipment based on your home’s unique energy profile, the weather outside and thousands of other data points -- making sure you’re comfortable 24/7. Some units even claim to save homeowners enough energy to pay for themselves.

Atomium Akbar And Birbal
The Atomium is a landmark building in Brussels, originally constructed for the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair (Expo 58). It is lo-

The Atomium, designed to last six months, was not destined to survive the 1958 World’s Fair, but its popularity and success made it a major element of the Brussels landscape. Its destruction was therefore postponed year after year, until the city’s authorities decided to keep it. However, for thirty years, little maintenance work was done.
cated on the Heysel Plateau, where the exhibition took place. It is now a museum. Designed by the engineer André Waterkeyn and architects André and Jean Polak, it stands 102 m (335 ft) tall. Its nine 18 m (60 ft) diameter stainless steel clad spheres are connected, so that the whole forms the shape of a unit cell of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. Tubes of 3 m (10 ft) diameter connect the spheres along the 12 edges of the cube and all eight vertices to the centre. They enclose stairs, escalators and a lift (in the central, vertical tube) to allow access to the five habitable spheres, which contain exhibit halls and other public spaces. The top sphere includes a restaurant which has a panoramic view of Brussels. In 2013, CNN named it Europe’s most bizarre building. In the 1950s, faith in scientific progress was great, and a structure depicting atoms was chosen to embody this. The Atomium depicts nine iron atoms in the shape of the body-centred cubic unit cell of an iron crystal, magnified 165 billion times.
tions, however, the aluminium was replaced with stainless steel, which is primarily iron. Likewise, while the subject of Atomium was chosen to depict the enthusiasm of the Atomic Age, iron is not and cannot be used as fuel in nuclear reactions. The Atomium was built as the main pavilion and icon of the 1958 World Fair of Brussels. The construction of the Atomium was a technical feat. Of the nine spheres, six are accessible to the public, each with two main floors and a lower floor reserved for service. The central tube contains the fastest elevator of the time (5 m/s), installed by the Belgian branch of the Swiss firm Schlieren (subsequently taken over by Schindler). It allows 22 people to reach the summit in 23 seconds. The escalators installed in the oblique tubes are among the longest in Europe. The biggest is 35 m long. Three of the four top spheres lack vertical support and hence are not open to the public for safety reasons, although the sphere at the pinnacle is open to the public. The original design called for no supports; the structure was simply to rest on the spheres. Wind tunnel tests proved that the structure would have toppled in an 80 km/h wind (140 km/h winds
By the turn of the millennium, the state of the building had become quite deteriorated and a comprehensive renovation was sorely needed. Renovation of the Atomium began in March 2004; it was closed to the public in October, and remained closed until 18 February 2007. The renovations included replacing the faded aluminium sheets on the spheres with stainless steel. On 21 December 2005, the new Atomium outdoor lighting was tested. The meridians of each sphere were covered with rectangular steel plates, in which LED lighting was integrated. The LED application illuminates the bulbs at night. The lights can also flash simultaneously or in turns at each meridian, symbolizing the range of an electron around its core. On 14 February 2006, the Atomium was officially reopened by then Prince Philippe, and on 18 February 2006, it opened again to the public. The renovation cost €26 million. Brussels and the Atomium Association paid one third of the costs, the Belgian government financed two thirds. To help pay for renovations, pieces of the old aluminium plates were sold to the public as souvenirs. One triangular piece about 2 metres (7 ft) long sold for €1,000. On the occasion of the reopening, a 2 euro commemorative coin depicting the building was issued, in March 2006, to celebrate the renovation.
The Wicked Barber’s Plight
As we all know, Birbal was not only Emperor Akbar’s favorite minister but also a minister dearly loved by most of the commoners, because of his ready wit and wisdom. People used to come to him from far and wide for advice on personal matters too. However, there was a group of ministers that were jealous of his growing popularity and disliked him intensely. They outwardly showered him with praise and compliments, but on the inside, they began to hatch a plot to kill him. One day they approached the king’s barber with a plan. As the barber was extremely close to the king, they asked him to help them get rid of Birbal permanently. And of course, they promised him a huge sum of money in return. The wicked barber readily agreed. The next time the king required his services, the barber started a conversation about the emperor’s father who he also used to serve. He sang praises of his fine, silky-smooth hair. And then as an afterthought, he asked the king that as he was enjoying such great prosperity, had he made an attempt to do anything for the welfare of his ancestors? The king was furious at such impertinent stupidity and told the barber that it was not possible to do anything because they were already dead. The barber mentioned that he knew of a magician who could come of help. The magician could send a person up to heaven to enquire about his father’s welfare. But of course this person would have to be chosen carefully; he would have to be intelligent enough to follow the magician’s instructions as well as make on-the-spot decisions. He must be wise, intelligent and responsible. The barber then suggested the best person for the job – the wisest of all ministers, Birbal. The king was very excited about hearing from his dead father and asked the barber to go ahead and make the arrangements immediately. He asked him what was needed to be done. The barber explained that they would take Birbal in a
procession to the burial grounds and light a pyre. The magician would then chant some ‘mantras’ as Birbal would ascend to the heavens through the smoke. The chanting would help protect Birbal from the fire. The king happily informed Birbal of this plan. Birbal said that he thought it a brilliant idea and wanted to know the brain behind it. When learning that it was the barber’s idea, he agreed to go to heaven on condition that he be given a large sum of money for the long journey as well as one month’s time to settle his family so that they had no trouble while he was gone. The king agreed to both conditions. In the duration of this month, he got a few trustworthy men to build a tunnel from the funeral grounds to his house. And on the day of the ascension, after the pyre had been lit, Birbal escaped through the concealed door of the tunnel. He disappeared into his house where he hid for a few months while his hair and beard grew long and unruly. In the meantime, his enemies were rejoicing as they thought that they had seen the last of Birbal. Then one day after many, many months Birbal arrived at the palace with news of the king’s father. The king was extremely pleased to see him and ready with a barrage of questions. Birbal told the king that his father was in the best of spirits and had been provided with all the comforts except one. The king wanted to know what was lacking because now he thought he had found a way to send things and people to heaven. Birbal answered that there were no barbers in heaven, which is why even he was forced to grow his own beard. He said that his father had asked for a good barber. So the king decided to send his own barber to serve his father in heaven. He called both the barber and the magician to prepare to send him to heaven. The barber could say absolutely nothing in his own defense as he was caught in his own trap. And once the pyre was lit he died on the spot. Nobody dared to conspire against Birbal again.

A team of scientists at the University of California Davis have spent years researching a beneficial gut bacteria called B. infantis that has gone missing in nine out of 10 U.S. babies. Scientists attribute this trend to modern medical practices such as antibiotic usage and C-Sections. Unfortunately, when this good bacteria is missing, baby’s gut microbiome often becomes disrupted, increasing the risk of developing short- and long-term health issues like colic, eczema, allergies, diabetes and obesity. The groundbreaking news, notes the new clinical trial, is that a probiotic called Evivo results in rapid and substantial restoration of gut

5 Winter Getaway Tips
Winter is an ideal time to travel, whether your motivation is to escape the cold weather or to frolic in it. Here are five travel tips for better winter vacations. 1. Leverage deals. Look for destinations offering discounts and deals. There are plenty
of choices a bit off the beaten path. Both warm and cold climate locations will have discounted flights and hotel packages in winter months, so choose your preferred type of weather and search for the savings. 2. Don’t dry out.
3. Stay sharp.
Jet lag is rough no matter what, so make sure your travel accessories prepare you to keep up with time zone changes from anywhere in the world. Look for a timepiece, such as the Casio Edifice EQB501DB-2A that features Bluetooth connectivity.

If you choose a snowy getaway, rent winter sports gear on-site to save yourself the hassle of lugging it with you to the airport and checking it as oversize baggage.
Pack lip balm and moisturizer with SPF. Also, bring along an empty water bottle in your carry-on gear to fill up after you pass through security.
So, even if you are adventuring to see all the sights your destination has to offer, make sure to also plan some downtime.
After the stress of the holidays, a winter getaway can be the perfect opportunity for relaxation.
Schedule a spa treatment, a wine tasting or whatever will give you an opportunity to just unwind. (StatePoint)
• Apply heat. Heat is a timeless remedy, and it’s clinically proven to relieve pain associated with muscle tension and stress, helping to relax muscles and improve blood flow. The increased blood flow restores oxygen and nutrients to inflamed areas to help accelerate healing. “After every rehearsal and performance, I use heat to soothe aches and pains and improve blood flow to my neck and shoulder muscles,” says Dovolani, whose pain relief routine includes using The Sunbeam Renue Neck Wrap. “It’s great for providing relief to the back of my head, neck and shoulders.”

3 Simple Ways To Give Back This Season
Want to give back to your community during the holidays, but it’s just not in the budget? With total holiday sales forecasted to hit over $1 trillion this season, it’s good to know that there are plenty of ways to give back without spending another dime.
Give the gift of literacy and entertainment this season! Make a pile of books your household no longer wants and donate it to a local library or shelter where your books can be enjoyed by others in the community.
Tidy-up Your Tech Drawer Double your giving impact by recycling your old smartphones and tablets at a local T-Mobile store through its #GivingTWOgether Phone Drive.
Sometimes, the items you already own and don’t need anymore can make a big impact for others. Here are three charitable ideas that will help you clean house while making someone else’s holiday season much brighter.
just how easy it is to accumulate old pairs of frames and lenses that no longer fit your style or meet your prescription needs.
That’s enough to buy at least 5,000,000 meals for hungry families and deploy 5,000 veterans to serve communities affected by disasters. According to recent EPA estimates, more than 135 million cell phones are trashed each year. Don’t toss it!
Now’s the time to fish those frames out of your drawers: many optometrists and local organizations like Lions Clubs collect prescription glasses and donate them to charities that work within your community.
Even old flip phones could net more than 600 meals to people in need or buy critical equipment for a disaster relief strike team member. Plus, anyone can participate, even non-T-Mobile customers.
Give the Shelves a Shake Whether it’s that box full of novels in your garage that you haven’t touched since you moved last, or a stack of Dr. Seuss your kids have outgrown, you likely own a bunch of books that are simply gathering dust.
What’s more, T-Mobile is pledging a minimum matching donation of $1,000,000 to be split equally between the two charities.
You can also do an internet search for your city and ‘holiday book drive’ to find other worthy causes close to home.
Through December, the recycled value of your device, after costs, will be matched and donated to Feeding America and Team Rubicon.
To see learn more about the TMobile #GivingTWOgether Phone Drive, visit www.t-mobile.com/ ways-to-give.
You can also donate online through organizations like New Eyes who send your glasses to those in need, worldwide (www.new-eyes.org/ recycle.) The gift of good vision can completely transform someone’s life and expand their educational and professional opportunities.
Gift Your Glasses for Good
This holiday season, it’s easier than ever to make a difference without an impact to your budget.

“Children should be encouraged to endlessly explore their creativity and be provided outlets to continuously discover through creative play,” says Hiu Lee, senior VP of Horizon Group USA, a leader in the creative DIY marketplace. Science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) concepts are especially important for young minds. While these are among the most challenging school subjects, at home, these topics can be brought to life through play. Consider these gift ideas that allow children to put real-world science theories to the test while learning fun facts along the way. An Online Platform That Connects Mom And Child (Continued From Page 11) “It is an end to end eco-system, connecting them to childcare products and services, other mothers in the neighbourhood and reputed experts,” says Saggi. BabyChakra is both app-based and web-based. And, home to close to two million women, already mothers or on the way there, who visit every month to seek answers for a wide variety of issues related to pregnancy and childcare. About 65 per cent of users come from tier-II and tier-III cities. It uses machine learning, it says, in creating a personal and customised experience, almost like a guided companion for someone going through the process of pregnancy and parenting. The social impact start-up is chasing a market which is potentially as big as $35 billion (Rs 2.3 lakh crore) in India across the products and services space in maternity and childcare. Its business model incorporates two main revenue streams, from brand partnerships and its online marketplace. “We work with a number of top corporates in the maternity and childcare space, like Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, Hindustan Unilever, Palmers and Sanofi, as well as emerging start-ups,” says Saggi. “We help them raise awareness of their brand to our targeted set of relevant users, and facilitate conversations with our community, through both online conversations and offline events.” Its online marketplace runs on a commission-based model. The services marketplace fulfils local needs like prenatal and lactation support, birthday party planning, doctors, photography and others. “Our products marketplace offers a handpicked, curated selection of products covering foods, clothing, jewellery, early learning supplies and more,” she adds. Stating that BabyChakra is cash-positive, she predicts her company will break-even by December 2018. It aims to be a companion to 20 million mothers monthly by 2020. The company has raised undisclosed seed funding (in 2015) and Series-A funding (in 2016), from Roundglass Partners, Artha India Ventures, Microsoft Accelerator Bangalore, Singapore Angel Network and Mumbai Angels. BabyChakra is also part of a Niti Aayog committee on nutrition. And, looking at collaborations with schools, doctors and hospitals for increasing its reach.

talented teachers have joined the Shiksha team. The school now offers NEW classes in Carnatic/Hindustan violin, Kuchipudi, Lego Engineering/ Robotics, Table Tennis and Toastmaster. There is a mandatory (but fun!) assembly each Sunday. This enables students from various classes to come together and participate in various team building activities. Parents also enjoy team building activities like games and even hikes to unexplored areas of RMD, as well as free adult yoga class at 10am.
Additionally, as part of in-class celebrations, the Marathi class students and parents came together to create a clay /brick fort (killa) reminiscent of King Shivaji’s forts, complete with hand made flags and action figures.
November and December are busy months too. Students and parents greatly enjoyed the annual Sports Day (sponsored by T3 Software Resources) held on November 12th.
This brought back memories for parents because it is one of the many ways Diwali is celebrated in Maharashtra.

Allu Sirish’s Okka Kshanam Is A Science Fiction Film Based On Real Incident
Director Vi Anand is now poised for a hattrick with his upcoming film Okka Kshanam, a sci-fi thrill-
er based on parallel life concept. Amid reports that the film starring Allu Sirish and Surbhi is a remake of a Korean film, Anand refutes the news and says, “Many articles have been written on the parallel life and there is a South Korean movie based on this theme. But, the story of Okka Kshanam
bears no similarities with any films whatsoever. It’s original and unique.” Love for the sci-fi thrill-
er genre influenced Anand since childhood. Ask him how he conceived the storyline? He explains, “A few years back, I saw an old man driving a car while his son sat in the back seat relaxing. In general, it should be otherwise. That incident had lived with me for years and based on that sight that I have written Okka Kshanam.”
The film’s teaser cleverly manages to give away the plot of the film in its entirety. So, is it a way of preparing the audience for the film? Anand shares, “It was a conscious attempt. We wanted to reveal the plot in the teaser so that the audience can keep guessing about it. We don’t want them to come to the theatre with high expectations and thinking about something that is not present in the film. As for the video, when we toss the matchsticks, some of them will fall parallel to each other. Likewise, among millions of people living on this planet, the incidents or the thoughts in the life of any two people can be similar. Personally, I knew a relative of mine who shares a parallel life with another girl.”Produced by Chakri Chigurupati, Okka Kshanam also features Srinivas Avasarala and Seerat Kapoor as other leads. The film, which has music by Mani Sharma is set to release on December 28.

Remakes To Look Forward To In The Coming Months
After Abhay Chopra’s ‘Ittefaq’ starring Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha, yet another dark thriller is all set to be remade. Reports have been rife about remaking Satyen Bose’s ‘Raat Aur Din’ starring Nargis Dutt. From among the names doing rounds to play the lead, Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were under consideration. However, according to latest reports, Aishwarya has bagged the role. She will reportedly be seen reprising the role of a woman who suffers from mul-
tiple personality disorder in the film. Earlier reports were rife that producer duo Abbas-Mustan will be producing it. However now, the film will reportedly be produced by Prernaa Arora and Arjun N Kapoor and will be helmed by Siddharth Anand.
