A Skin Care Expert Weighs In: Take Care Of Your Scalp When it comes to your skin and hair care routine, it can be all too easy to forget the scalp. After time though, this neglect can take a toll on the health of your hair, according to experts.
While you’re not about to ditch your sweat session or your favorite hair care products, that doesn’t mean you’re doomed to live with scalp buildup. One important thing to consider is the frequency you shampoo your hair. While the right frequency will vary per head of hair, you can experiment until you strike the right balance for you.
“Think of your scalp as an extension of your skin from your face. If you put too much product on your face, your skin cannot breathe. The same is true for the scalp and hair follicles. Taking proper care of your scalp is important in preventing follicles from clogging and also avoids hair getting weighed down from too much product buildup,” says Dr. Rocio Rivera, Ph.D.
Be sure to always rinse shampoo out of your hair thoroughly with cool water during each wash. You may also want to incorporate a detox solution into your routine in order to deeply purify and cleanse the scalp of dirt, product buildup and oil, without stripping hair.
The Problem Scalp buildup is caused by a number of factors, many of which are unfortunately beyond your control or simply caused by your everyday routine. These include environmental factors, dead skin cells that don’t shed quickly enough, sweat, sebum and hair care products. Over time, scalp buildup can cause
issues like itching, shedding and clogged follicles, ultimately compromising healthy hair growth and
your comfort. The Solution
To do so, consider new solutions like the EverPure Scalp Care + Detox system from L’Oréal Paris, which is recommended for twice a week use. Containing menthol and neem leaf extract, it leaves the scalp feeling
fresh for 24 hours, and leaves hair healthy-looking, bouncy and soft. If you have color-treated hair, this can be an especially worthy option to consider, as this sulfate-free, paraben-free solution is color safe. “A sulfate-free shampoo is a great option to prevent scalp discomfort. The new system from L’Oréal Paris is quite effective and affordable. The products cleanse and relieve the scalp of excess dirt, product buildup, flakes and oils without stripping the hair. Plus, it’s been validated by hair colorists, so it is safe on your color-treated hair too,” says Dr. Rivera. Finally, for ultimate scalp and hair health, try adopting a diet that includes nutrients like omega 3 fatty acids and biotin. Don’t let life take its toll on your scalp. By counteracting the effects of buildup, you can help restore the health of your scalp and locks. (StatePoint)

Heart Attacks And Cholesterol: What You Need To Know Sponsored by Amgen. Did you know that 25 percent of the 805,000 heart attacks per year in the U.S. are recurrent heart attacks? The American Heart Association reports that once you’ve experienced a heart attack, your chances of having another one is higher. In fact, nearly one in five patients who’ve had a heart attack will have another cardiovascular event, such as a heart attack or stroke, within one year. While there are various factors that contribute to a heart attack, cholesterol is one of the most important modifiable risk factors. Over time, high levels of bad cholesterol can build up in your arteries and create clogs, making it difficult for blood to flow to where your body needs it. This can ultimately lead to a devastating heart attack. Here are six tips you can implement to help manage your cholesterol numbers: 1. Get checked: Stay on top of your numbers by having your cholesterol checked regularly. This is particularly important if you have already experi-
lower your cholesterol. 3. Be physically active. A sedentary lifestyle lowers HDL (good) cholesterol, which is needed to remove LDL (bad) cholesterol from your arteries. enced a heart attack. 2. Eat a heart-healthy diet. A heart-healthy diet is low in saturated fat and trans-fat. You can reduce these fats in your diet by limiting your intake of fried food, red meat and dairy products made with whole milk, and by cooking with healthy oils, such as vegetable or olive oil. Emphasize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and nuts, while curbing sugary foods and beverages. Eating this way increases your fiber intake, which can help
Stay physically active to not only improve your cholesterol, but to also manage your blood pressure. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that adults get 2.5 hours of moderate intensity exercise per week in order to lower high cholesterol. 4. Quit smoking. According to the CDC, smoking damages your blood vessels, speeds up the hardening of the arteries and greatly increases your risk
for heart disease. 5. Manage weight. Being overweight tends to raise LDL (bad) cholesterol and lower HDL (good) cholesterol. Losing excess weight can improve your cholesterol levels. 6. Take proper medication. Bad cholesterol can be lowered by lifestyle changes, but diet and exercise alone may not be enough to lower LDL-C. Medications like statins USA-145-82348 are important in lowering LDL-C, but patients who’ve had a heart attack may need to talk to their doctor about additional treatments to lower cholesterol even further. To learn more about cholesterol and your heart attack, visit www. heartattackfaq.com. Managing cholesterol requires a multifaceted approach. Understanding the factors involved can help you make lifestyle and treatment tweaks to reduce your risk of another heart attack. (StatePoint)

Outdoor exploration is an opportunity to feel free in times like these. Never considered kayaking before? One easy way to get out on the water –without the need for much storage space -- is with an inflatable kayak. Check out those that inflate with an included hand pump so you can conveniently take off on the water hassle-free. Just don’t forget the snacks and SPF, and on cooler days, a wetsuit to stay warm and dry.
• Camp at Home: Taking a staycation or simply need some outdoor time without leaving home? Host a family camping night in the backyard. Start the evening with a barbecue, s’mores and lawn games. Once the sun goes down, tell spooky stories. You may be “roughing it” outdoors, but you can stay comfortable using inflatable furniture and Dura-Beam airbeds, which have Fiber-Tech technology and will not stretch over time, resulting in years of durability. • Hit the Road: Americans are still traveling. Indeed, 27 percent have taken a vacation since the start of COVID-19 and 20 percent are planning to, according to a survey conducted by IPX1031. With safety in mind however, more people are opting for road trips. For this reason, RVing has gained particular popularity. If you do go this route, be sure to map out your journey before setting out so you know
where you’ll spend each night of the trip. Determine in advance if you’ll keep it moving the entire time in order to cover more ground, or if you’ll stay in fewer locations for longer periods of time. Whatever your style, remember that RVs have limited space, so gear that serves multiple purposes, is portable, or stores easily as-needed, is essential. Think nesting bowls, multitools and, when it comes to relaxing outside with all the same comforts as a hotel or cabin, inflatable couches and lounge chairs. As your family navigates the new normal, it’s all about finding new ways to have fun. Getting creative and having the right gear can make life a lot less stressful right now and even offer new opportunities to build lasting memories. (StatePoint)
How COVID-19 Has Changed The Way We Do Business Forever The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed how business gets done. And when it comes to midsized and small businesses, the importance of investing in new technology, facilitating remote work and maintaining a tech-savvy workforce has never been so clear, according to a new survey. Conducted by The Harris Poll for CIT Group Inc., a leading national bank focused on empowering businesses and personal savers, the survey of leaders of U.S. middle-market and small businesses is designed to illuminate the intersection of technology and talent. Compared to last year’s survey, significantly more leaders today believe continuous technological investment is a business requirement. “The resiliency and flexibility that technology can deliver businesses has been convincingly proven by COVID-19,” says David Harnisch, president of CIT’s Commercial Finance division. “Business leaders have taken that lesson to heart and are focused on making technology a fundamental part of their ‘tomorrow thinking’.” Most executives surveyed wish that they’d invested even more in technology over the past 12 months. In fact, more than three in four middle market executives believe investments in technology would have helped their company fare better during the pan-
demic. For small businesses, roughly half felt similarly. However, there’s little question how important technology will be going forward, with the majority of respondents saying it’s crucial to future success. Seemingly determined not to repeat the mistake of under-investing, the majority plan to invest as much or more in their business over the next 12 months as compared to the past
“Small businesses don’t always have the financial resources that larger enterprises often enjoy,” says Ken Martin, managing director of CIT’s Small Business Solutions group. “When investments are imperative, borrowing or leasing may be the right solution to acquiring the technology needed to remain competitive.” When it comes to these upgrades, investments that make it easier for employees to
“It’s not just a matter of convenience. Businesses that empower employees to work remotely have a clear competitive advantage,” says Denise Menelly, CIT’s executive vice president and head of Technology and Operations. This is a trend that’s likely here to stay. Approximately a quarter of small businesses operating remotely expect -- and want -- these changes to remain permanent after COVID-19 subsides, and about 40% of middle market executives expect the same, with some seeing it as a means to grow the company. However, this digital transformation puts a premium on a tech-savvy workforce able to support customers and collaborate with colleagues remotely. While many believe their current workforce has the skills to keep up, businesses are also substantially more likely than last year to say companies need to focus on hiring tech-savvy talent.
year. Only 15% of small businesses say they may invest less this coming year, likely due to financial constraints resulting from the pandemic.
work remotely are a clear priority. Over the next 12 months, 71% of middle market executives and 31% of small business leaders who plan to invest will spend on technology that facilitates remote work.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has created a great deal of uncertainty for small and midsized businesses, it has in many ways clarified what’s needed to remain successful in an evolving world. (StatePoint)

Burdens Of COVID Hit Hardest Among Marginalized Students
Students are the greatest hope for the future, but for many, their plans are threatened due to burdens posed by COVID-19.
been a concern for military families, who often have no choice but to send their children to the nearest public school, whether it’s the right fit or not.
Here are just a few of the issues students and families face today, and steps being taken to address these concerns: • The digital divide: Recent images of two Latino children doing their online schoolwork in a Silicon Valley restaurant parking lot calls attention to the deepening digital divide in the COVID-19 era. Nationwide, 16.9 million lack the home internet access necessary to support online learning. A phenomenon known as the “homework gap,” this issue disproportionately impacts students of color. According to the Alliance for Excellent Education, one out of three Black, Latino, and Native American/Alaska Native households doesn’t have access to a home internet connection and one in six doesn’t have access to a computer or device.
Today, this problem has grown in severity, as the level and quality of remote instruction can vary wildly among school districts. • Lack of financial resources:
• Housing insecurity: For students in the LGBTQ community, campus closures have sometimes meant the loss of inschool counseling and the support of like-minded, accepting peers. When “home” is an unwelcoming or even unsafe environment, students can be at a greater risk for depression, anxiety, abuse and homelessness. • Educational barriers: Distance learning creates new educational hurdles. With parents tak-
ing on an unprecedented instructional role, language barriers for non-English speaking parents can prove significant, like for Asian and Latino immigrants.
Despite the economic disruption caused by the pandemic, colleges and universities are largely maintaining or increasing their tuition costs, leaving financially struggling students and families in a lurch. Efforts to Help
Lastly, certain learning disabilities can make virtual lessons especially difficult to follow. • Military family and school options:
In the face of today’s many unprecedented challenges, help is on the way. Additionally, organizations like Wells Fargo recently completed their new Wells Fargo Student Impact Scholarship in September 2020 to help students impacted by COVID-19. This initiative will provide 200 students with $5,000 each in funds, which could help them cover various costs for their instruction and potentially make the difference in being able to continue their education. Since 2010, Wells Fargo has provided more than $87.8 million across all higher education programs and sponsored events. Budget-Building Resources For A More Resilient Tomorrow
Hispanic communities have been making vital contributions to the American cultural landscape and the national economy for decades.
The second largest ethnic or racial group in the U.S., Hispanics poured $2.6 trillion into the U.S. economy in 2018, have the purchasing power of approximately $1.7 trillion, and are the most likely among other minority groups to be entrepreneurs. However, with the ongoing pandemic, many are finding themselves struggling financially, lacking adequate access to healthcare, and worried about their children falling behind in school given the multitude of challenges presented by remote learning.
Inc./Florida Consumer, a nonprofit that provides financial counseling services. “Now more than ever, ensuring their right to financial wellness and the American dream is essential.”
Despite these hardships, a recent Pew Research Center poll showed that nearly 50 percent of Hispanics expect the U.S. economy to improve a year from now, a strong indicator of the optimism and resiliency that this community embodies. “Latinos represent an important component of the United States economy and population in today’s time of uncertainty,” says Eugenio M. Alonso, president and CEO, Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Puerto Rico
During tough economic times, having a budget and understanding how it should be managed is the key to gaining control of one’s finances, according to financial ex-
perts. Even for those who feel that their current financial situation doesn’t allow them to build a budget, having an understanding of budgeting basics can help when making everyday financial decisions. “A budget can help people tighten spending, prioritize saving, and most importantly, help them focus on and achieve their longterm financial goals. Creating a budget may sound complicated, but with a little bit of guidance and organization, everyone can do it,” says Alonso. To get started, here are some resources to help Hispanic families feel more empowered in their budgeting journey:
1. Video content: For practical tips on budgeting, view the short video, “A Minute about Money,” available at youtu.be/mUwDxb0mOTs. 2. Resource hub: Check out Hands on Banking, a free, non-commercial financial education program created by Wells Fargo to support the needs of communities. The site features a variety of resources on money management subjects such as building a rainy day fund, banking basics, establishing credit and more, and is available in English and Spanish at handsonbanking.org and elfuturoentusmanos.org. 3. Hands-on assistance: Those experiencing financial hardship and needing more guidance can seek help with a reputable nonprofit that offers financial counseling, like Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Puerto Rico Inc./Florida Consumer. To learn more, visit consumerpr.org. As the nation moves forward, Hispanics will continue to fuel the country’s economic growth. It is vital that this deeply impacted community has the tools to succeed and recover. (StatePoint)

The Women Leading The Fight Against COVID-19
Less than 30 percent of the world’s researchers are women, according to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics. However, one team fighting against COVID-19 is not only leading the charge to save lives, but also in empowering women in science, encouraging the next generation of girls and young women to pursue STEM education.
As Dr. El-Sayed explains, human coronaviruses can persist on inanimate surfaces such as plastic, glass, fibers and metals for up to nine days.
the EPA-approved surrogate, demonstrating the ability to successfully protect against COVID-19. It’s the first such product to be EPAapproved.
At biotechnology company Allied BioScience, chief science officer Maha El-Sayed, PhD leads a female-dominated team of researchers, and their work has the potential to be a game changer in the fight against COVID-19 and other future viruses. Their product, SurfaceWise2, continuously kills 99.9 percent of viruses, including, most importantly, the virus that causes COVID-19. “When it comes to women in STEM, there’s a lot of untapped potential. It’s my hope that our team can inspire young women to pursue careers in science, and inspire other research teams to bring more talented women into the fold and elevate them to positions where they can drive real change,” says Dr. El-Sayed.
This makes it critical to protect high-traffic facilities where the contamination of surfaces is continuous, such as schools, stadiums, restaurants, offices and retail spaces. More advanced than comparative products in reducing chemical and disinfectant exposure, SurfaceWise2 was proven in independent studies conducted by infectious disease experts to be effective against Human Coronavirus 229E,
So how is it used? Compatible with virtually all surfaces, SufaceWise2 is applied via an electronic spray for efficient, complete and uniform treatment. Droplets are small -- 900 times smaller than an average droplet -and applied at a force of 75 times greater than gravity, causing a “wraparound effect,” and a natural force of attraction between the sprayed droplets and target surfaces.

They now prepare for the next big event: a virtual gala in November to raise funds for vocational scholarships for low-income youth and adults.

As the nation fights to safely reopen, the work of dedicated, female scientists is making a vital difference in saving lives and in helping businesses, communities and families return to normalcy.
“Shedding light on the scientific achievements of women, particularly at this critical time in history, is essential to inspiring the next generation of girls and young women to pursue STEM education and careers in science,” says Dr. El-Sayed. (StatePoint)
How To Choose The Best Insurance Policy For You It’s never fun to think about the possibility of getting sick or hurt, losing a home, needing extended medical care, or even dying, but these are extremely important topics to confront when planning your financial future. Experts agree that sound financial planning usually involves obtaining some type of insurance. Insurance provides payment due to loss of life, income, assets, or future earning potential. Here are four types of insurance to consider including in your financial plan. • Life insurance. Experts agree that if your family depends on your income, you should get a life insurance policy. There are a few different types of life insurance, but whole life and term life are the most common. A term policy provides coverage for a specific length of time—typically between 10 and 30 years—and is a good option for those who only need a safety net until they retire. A whole life policy provides coverage as long as the premium is paid, and is a better choice if you need life insurance
to last the rest of your life. Many financial advisors and insurance companies recommend purchasing enough life insurance to cover six to 10 times your annual salary. • Disability insurance. This type of insurance basically protects your paycheck if you get hurt and cannot work. You may not need short-term disability insurance if you have enough emergency savings stashed away, but most financial advisors recommend purchasing long-term disability insurance. Your employer may offer group disability insurance, which will typically replace up to 60% of your income, or a maximum of $5,000 to $15,000 per month. You could also consider an individual disability policy. These policies usually replace 60%-65% of your income and—unlike employer-sponsored disability policies—they are portable, meaning you can keep your insurance no matter where you work. • Homeowners insurance. There are two types of homeowners insurance to consider: basic homeowners insurance and homeowners liability insurance, which kicks in (Continued On Page 10)

Our Votes, Our Values!
(From page 1) most vulnerable, deserve from our elected representatives. At the end of this process, we need to make sure our choice is consistent with those values, and ensure that our judgment is not clouded by the constant negativity of election coverage in the media and the vested agenda of media. Our choice must reflect our maturity, compassion for fellow citizens and our commitment to our common goals. Today’s election coverage in the news channels is all about creating anger and divisions among people in this country. If we let anger affect our decisions, the outcomes will will not be for the betterment of this great nation. Let us remind ourselves of the following verse from Bhagavad Gita that warns us of dangers of anger. “Anger leads to clouding of judgment, which results in bewilderment of the memory. When the memory is bewildered, the intellect gets destroyed; and the destruction of intellect leads to ruin.” Bhagavad-gita (2.63) America, as a democracy can only exist as long as its citizens act with maturity, and remind themselves that there are some basic ideals that cannot be compromised. History is replete with many lessons on how great nations and societies have cracked, fissured and eventually fallen due to internal strife that elites provoke.
and now? Freedom, Prosperity and Security are the pillars of civil society. We must be vigilant about and thwart the destructive forces that weaken those pillars and compromise our ability to stand up as a nation. We must remain alert when we see big corporations silently watch powerful communist regimes curtail basic freedoms of its citizens, but complain about lack of freedoms here when our President wants to enforce our laws passed by Congress. We cannot be swayed by the elites that question the necessity of this country to secure its border, while comfortably living in secure gated communities themselves. We must not become blindsided when they passionately argue the need to cripple the Police departments of much needed funds while turning a blind eye to the rising crimes that plague the nation’s weakest neighborhoods. When we see more and more Americans not being able to keep up with the rising cost of living, falling incomes and the increasing insecurity of their jobs, and how low income groups are pushed to homelessness right in our backyard, we must be bold enough to ask basic questions like: whether our country is in position to be inviting more people from outside to come and live here. I urge my fellow Americans to question agenda laden discourses that are pushed as popular narratives in this country. At the end of the day, we must care for our fellow citizens and their basic needs first. We must vote on our values!
Why allow that history to repeat itself here

How To Give Out Halloween Candy Safely During Pandemic By Sumaiya Malik There is no perfect way to dole out candy on Halloween on October 31 during Covid-19 pandemic, as there is a risk of disease transmission in the process. Parents certainly don’t want neighbors to open their doors to everyone. Neither do they want to let their kids knock on every door in the neighborhood, but they do want their children to experience the annual tradition in a safe way. We scoured online and asked people for suggestions. Here is what we put together for you. 1. Have candy grams in small Ziploc bags ready and on a table outside. Place each bag a few inches
away from the other so that the children who stop by just pick up their own in a socially distant way.

PEHLA QADAM – Moving Forward With A Message Of Peace

This October, some US-based creative artists from the Indian, Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora took the first step to release a song and video production called Pehla Qadam, on Spotify and Youtube.
“Kashmir has been in a lockdown for a year,” said Danish Renzu, the producer and director of Pehla Qa-

They worked across global boundaries to send a message of peace and collaboration to their respective countries in South Asia where relations at the border remain tense and unresolved.
“I hope that people can see themselves and know that there are people whose longing is as good as their own. I want to show their vulnerability,” Sethi said. Ali Sethi renders the lyrics through a catchy tune with dhol by well-known international drummer, Sunny Jain. A lot is said in a few words.
“Pehla Qadam” literally means first step. The catchy lyrics, “Ho hum hi uthayenge pehla qadam, Tum bhi uthao uthao uthaoge naa,” mean “We will take the first step. Will you do the same?” The message is strong and clear: We want to work together in the face of border tension to create the

Small Businesses Remain Resilient Amid Pandemic Amid the historic coronavirus pandemic, businesses are adapting by making major changes to their operations, including increased use of technology, according to the latest PNC semi-annual survey of small and mid-size business owners and executives, which concluded Sept. 8.

Eight in 10 business owners reported that they have made adaptations in response to COVID-19, including safety changes in the form of new procedures or physical modifications, while others have adopted work-from-home policies. “Business owners have learned that the previous status quo won’t work now. The majority of businesses have reconfigured their operations and for many, these changes will be permanent,” says PNC chief economist, Gus Faucher. “Their confidence may be shaken, but we know through the history of this survey that business owners are resilient and they know how to adapt to change.”

Kuchroo and Renzu are both from Kashmir and have previously worked together. The team released Pehla Qadam with two different videos. The first video is a modern animation by Reed Gibson. A second video features a scenic view of Kashmir with Kashmiri youth and entrepreneurs in the forefront. Co-producer Abubakar Khan (Creative Production Company), brought Renzu and Ali Sethi together. “Any content [we] create is focused on connecting the diaspora,” Khan said. “The purpose is to bring people together,” he added. Khan talked about the geographical distances that came into play. The team hopes that the song will remind people that it is possible to work together. ing guidance: • Avoid shady sellers: This time of year can be especially costly, making it tempting to shop around. However, that low priced toy may not actually be “a good deal.” “U.S. toy safety laws are considered the gold standard. Before reaching your home, a toy is subjected to over 100 different safety standards and tests and must be certified compliant by an independent testing laboratory,” says Joan Lawrence, The Toy Association’s “Toy Safety Mom” and senior vice president of standards and regula-
tory affairs. “The cheap imitations and counterfeits available online from illicit sellers haven’t met these same safety standards.” A recent survey commissioned by The Toy Association of U.S. parents who are their household’s primary toy purchaser revealed that 71 percent of parents whose kids get holiday gifts from grandparents who shop online aren’t completely confident that their elders know how to ensure that toys are from verified sellers. In the same survey, 19 percent of parents report that their child has received a knock-off toy that was bought online. Parents should talk to gift purchasers about sticking with verified sellers. This includes buying directly from brand websites or by following provided links to official retailers selling a brand’s products. (Continued On Page 23)

I like to put the food in the boxes because we do it in an organized fashion, but my favorite part is seeing the happy faces of the frontline workers when we deliver the food. We know there will be many more lunch drives to come. Since 2019, we have cleaned Ranch Trails Park with the guid-
amount of trash we found. After the cleanup, I would watch the clean grass with other HSS volunteers. Recently, Cedar Park Parks & Recreation Agency has appreciated the HSS team’s Seva and has installed a board in the center of the park that states that Ranch Trails Park is adopted by Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh. In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the students of the University of Texas and senior citizens could not get their groceries due to a lack of driving and social distancing. At the time, HSS volunteers took an initiative to help them rise out of this struggle. The volunteers themselves went and brought the groceries and provided a door delivery. In total, there were over 400 pounds of groceries delivered.
During this terrifying pandemic of COVID-19, the Austin HSS team has commenced lunch drives to hospitals, rehabilitation centers, police stations, homeless centers, and the trash collectors.

We have done several lunch drives so far and over 300 meals have been delivered.
Small children and the elderly have also participated in the cleanups.

These lunch drives cover Greater Austin, Round Rock, and Cedar Park. There are more than 60 volunteers who prepare, pack and distribute

DIWALI (Continued From Page 01) The festival is widely associated with Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity, with many other regional traditions connecting the holiday to Sita and Rama, Vishnu, Krishna, Yama, Yami, Durga, Kali, Dhanvantari, or Vishvakarman. Furthermore, it is, in some regions, a celebration of the day Lord Rama returned to his kingdom Ayodhya after defeating the demonking Ravana.
HSS also thinks health, fitness, and stress relief is mandatory for families during this pandemic, hence we planned free yoga classes early in the morning.
In the lead-up to Diwali, celebrants will prepare by cleaning, renovating, and decorating their homes and workplaces with diyas and rangoli. During the Diwali people wear their finest clothes, illuminate the interior and exterior of their homes with diyas and rangoli (oil lamps or candles), offer puja (worship) to Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and wealth, light fireworks, and partake in family feasts, where mithai and gifts are shared. Diwali is also a major cultural event for the Hindu and Jain diaspora from the Indian subcontinent.
Families can come together and relax their bodies and minds. More than 25 families are regularly coming to these yoga sessions. Women are especially pleased with these courses.
The five-day long festival originated in the Indian subcontinent and is mentioned in early Sanskrit texts. Diwali is usually celebrated twenty days after the Dashera (Dasara, Dasain) festival, with Dhanteras, or the regional equivalent, marking the first day of the festival when celebrants prepare by cleaning their homes and making decorations on the floor, such as rangoli.
They have experienced a loss of stress and joint pain. This program has been going on for the last six months and you too can join these yoga classes at no cost to you.
The second day is Naraka Chaturdashi, or the regional equivalent which for Hindus in the south of India is Diwali proper. Western, central, eastern and northern Indian communities observe main day of Diwali on the third day, the day of Lakshmi Puja and the darkest night of the traditional month.
We also work with sister organizations like Sewa International and helped establish an Austin based helpline to community people to provide logistics, health, food, and travel related common questions.
In some parts of India, the day after Lakshmi Puja is marked with the Govardhan Puja and Balipratipada (Padwa), which is dedicated to the relationship between wife and husband. (Continued On Page 15)

PICTURE BOOK WORLD By Shachi Kaushik
Celebrate Thanksgiving with food and family and with this heartwarming book. Another book with a story about a family that is very close and working together as they prepare their Thanksgiving feast.
Picture books are an important part of learning. The simple text helps in improving vocabulary and the colorful illustrations help analyze the story and increase a child’s imagination.
Have you ever thought about having a camel as your pet? This is a sweet story of boy Raja who wants to keep a baby camel as his pet, but first, he has to find a way to convince his father. The camel is naughty and causes trouble in the village. These moments add humor to the book. Raja comes up with a plan to change his father’s mind and not sell it at the fair.
Diwali has arrived and Shubh Diwali is filled with bright colorful pictures and rhyming text. A young girl takes readers through the preparation and practices surrounding her family’s Diwali celebrations. Cleaning the house, making rangoli, and greeting everyone around, the book is a good introduction to explain the traditions and activities of the holiday Diwali. At the back of the book, there is a glossary of terms to learn a few Hindi words. The author also explains the five days of Diwali and her own experience of the celebration of the festival in India. The illustrations are vibrant and colorful just like the text. The book will create a spark for you to celebrate the holiday. Happy Diwali. DIWALI (Continued From Page 13) Some Hindu communities mark the last day as Bhai Dooj or the regional equivalent, which is dedicated to the bond between sister and brother, while other Hindu and Sikh craftsmen communities mark this day as Vishwakarma Puja and observe it by performing maintenance in their work spaces and offering prayers. Some other faiths in India also celebrate their respective festivals alongside Diwali. The Jains observe their own Diwali which marks the final liberation of Mahavira, the Sikhs celebrate Bandi Chhor Divas to mark the release of Guru Hargobind from a Mughal Empire prison, while Newar Budd hists, unlike other Buddhists, celebrate Diwali by worshipping Lakshmi, while the Bengali Hindus generally celebrate Diwali, by worshipping Goddess Kali. The main day of the festival of Diwali (the day of Lakshmi Puja) is an official holiday in Fiji, Guyana, India, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
During these sessions members talk about their life experiences and topics for members to write about. I find the SAIVA member’s stories about their life experiences to be very interesting because they’re very different compared to my own life experiences. The SAIVA member’s short stories are being compiled together so it can be published in a book. October 14 th was the last officially scheduled creative writing session. It was a bittersweet moment. During that meeting people talked about how even though COVID-19 has brought difficult times. They are grateful for all the new people they have met through SAIVA and Zoom. I feel the same way. COVID-19 has made everyone’s life more difficult, but it has also brought people together online. I hope the short stories get published and I look forward in continuing my internship.”

According to McKinsey, 75% of the 50 largest school districts in the country have decided to start remotely, and the UN estimates that 94% of the world’s student population has been impacted. While the disruption the coronavirus has caused the educational system is clear, the long-term impact on students’ mental health is even greater cause for concern. The disruption students face due to the pandemic is widespread, but not evenly distributed. The UN’s research found that groups that are already vulnerable when it comes to receiving education—those living in poor or rural areas, girls, refugees, and persons with disabilities—experience the greatest impact. The good news is that many digital programs like Lead4Change, which is a free program for all participants, only require enthusiasm and investment of time from students and their teachers. Could Long-Term Blackouts And Outages Become The New Normal?
While you may take electricity for granted in today’s world, you might not in the future -- that is, if current trends continue.
2050, the U.S. will need an additional 462,183 electricians to meet demands.
Between 2030 and 2040, multiday power outages -- and their rippling impacts -- could indeed become
As a new report highlights, the U.S. electrical workforce is aging out and not being sufficiently replaced -- a trend which could have potentially devastating and far-reaching impacts nationwide.
The report indicates that if current trends and projections continue, by
“As it stands, instead of having flying cars, the U.S. could one day soon face challenges associated with shortening the duration of power outages and their very serious trickle-down effects.” Various factors have been linked to the decline of the workforce, including a stigma surrounding blue collar professions, a lack of trade advocacy in high schools and a societal push toward four-year colleges steering young people away from skilled electrical work.
The report’s authors say that the time to fill the pipeline of new electrical workers and invest in training and retention is now. The “Dark by 2050” report, available at kleintools.com/darkby2050, was released by Klein Tools, a family-owned and operated hand tools manufacturer, and The Accelerate Group, a Midwest-based strategic consulting and innovation firm focused on accelerating large civic change initiatives.

Efforts are being made however to address this growing skills gap. For example, Klein Tools has partnered with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers as well as vocational-technical organizations across the country in order to help students prepare for a career in electrical and other skilled trades.
It is also a founding partner of SkillsUSA’s National Signing Day, an event aimed at recognizing and rewarding students who pledge to pursue skilled trades careers. In addition, the manufacturer provides discounts for trade schools, and its representatives regularly make guest teaching appearances. To learn more about these initiatives, visit www.kleintools.com. “Electrical professionals play a critical role in delivering safe, reliable power to homes, businesses, infrastructure, public services and institutions. What’s more, they are essential to a cleaner future of expanded renewable energy, greener buildings and more electric vehicles,” says Klein. “But unless we see a significant investment in recruiting and training in the field, we won’t have a workforce able to keep up with our nation’s growing electrical needs -or sustain life as we know it.” (StatePoint)

In an effort to identify, support and elevate a range of educator voices, perspectives and communities, priority will be given to those working in communities that have been particularly hard hit by the pandemic and who have not previously received National Geographic funding.
Launched by the National Geographic Society, the fund aims to directly support at least 50 teaching professionals, including formal and informal classroom educators, with grants ranging from $1,000– 8,000. In an effort to support as many teachers and students as possible, the resources created by grant recipients will become freely available on the National Geographic Society education website, and within the National Geographic
demic.
Applicants can apply individually, in collaboration with other educa-
their students in a socially distant world,” says Vicki Phillips, chief education officer at the National Geographic Society. “Our goal is to equip educators with the resources and support
sis on remote- and hybrid-learning resources, methodologies and practices that use the power of science, social studies and geography to help students understand the significance of current and complex challenges, such as a global pan-
tors or with National Geographic Explorers. To learn more, visit NatGeoEd.org/covidgrants. To provide additional guidance during the application process, the Society is offering weekly virtual “Design Labs.” Educators can also ask questions by visiting @NatGeoEducation on Twitter. During an unusual school year, new avenues of support and funding are emerging. Leveraging these resources can help educators continue their mission of preparing young people to confront the challenges of a rapidly changing world. (StatePoint)

COVID-19 And Face Coverings: The Different Types And Why It Matters (Continued From Page 01) In the U.S., over 7 million people have been infected by COVID-19 and over 200,000 have died. According to health authorities, the virus that causes COVID-19 predominantly spreads when people talk, cough and sneeze. In addition to measures such as maintaining physical distancing

Medical masks meet specific standards and are FDA-cleared for hospital use in the U.S.
Because the entire surface of the respirator is a filter, it is efficient at capturing at least 95% of non-oily airborne particles that the wearer might breathe in, including liquid droplets that may contain viruses and germs.

and frequent handwashing, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently recommends everyone wear a cloth mask when out in public, especially in areas where physical distancing is a challenge, to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Since respirators are in critical supply and the global personal protective equipment (PPE) industry can’t make enough to meet this current demand, respirators and medical masks should be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders. Wearing a face covering is important: a cloth face covering, such as a reusable mask may help protect others from the wearer. A respirator (when worn properly) helps protect the wearer from airborne hazards around them. With the COVID-19 pandemic still affecting our daily lives, it’s important to know how choosing a face covering can help those on the frontlines to get what they need to continue the fight. One of the world’s biggest manufacturers of N95 respirators,
At public spaces and certain workplaces where protection from occupational hazards is not needed, non-medical disposable and cloth masks that cover your nose and mouth completely may help reduce the spread of COVID-19 (along with other measures such as physical distancing and frequent handwashing) by protecting others from exposure to particles generated by the wearer. Designs with unfiltered valves, such as those with drinking straw holes, or any visible gaps, are not sufficient face coverings under some government guidance. General use masks should not be overly tight and should feel comfortable to wear. A face mask is not the same as a medical mask or respirator. Medical masks: health care workers. Medical masks are designed to be used by health care workers to help provide a barrier to highvelocity streams of liquid, as well as a barrier to particles that might be expelled by the wearer. This second reason is why health care workers wear medical masks

However, new tools are proving essential in helping parents protect kids from the harmful effects of cyberbullying. For example, OurPact from Eturi Corp. is an app that allows parents to set online schedules for kids, as well as grant or restrict access to websites and apps. Parents can also take screenshots of online activity to ensure their kids are staying safe. These can also be used to facilitate discussions regarding smart digital health. A recent new study conducted by L1ght recorded a 70 percent uptick in hate among children and teens during online chats since December 2019. While this is worrying, there are steps parents can take to help protect kids from the surge of online toxicity they may be encountering: • Pay attention: There are many common red flags that a child is either involved in cyberbullying or a victim of it. Those who are instigating or participating in cyberbullying may exhibit increased secrecy around their mobile device or laptop, display arrogance or have other behavioral problems. Signs your child is a target of cyberbullies include depression and anxiety, (particularly while or after using their device), problems with sleeping, changes in appetite, self-harm or suicidal thoughts. • Communicate: Open a line of dialogue with your child about what they are experiencing, but be patient. Your child may be reticent to share everything going on with you at first. It can be helpful to draw in the assistance of
• Keep kids active: When remote class time is not in session, it’s important to place an emphasis on spending quality time offline. Encourage kids to be physically active outdoors in order to raise levels of mood-boosting hormones and promote better sleep at night (something that may be suffering more these days as a result of additional blue light from screens). If possible, arrange for socially distanced meet-ups with close friends, such as bike rides. Get kids involved in positive hobbies like reading, playing an instrument or art.
While the “new normal” has caused a dangerous uptick in toxic online behaviors, parents have new tools at their disposal to help protect kids. (StatePoint)

5 Tips For Thanking Your Heroes This Holiday Season
Those who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of others are rarely in it for recognition. However, in this especially challenging year, the holiday season is a perfect time to not just
show these selfless people your appreciation, but also take inspiration from their kindness. Here are five simple ways to thank the everyday heroes in your life. 1. Send a unique care package. Even if you can’t share your appreciation in person, you can still say thanks with a care package filled with goodies you know your recipient loves. Start with special holiday treats, then add personalized items. If your recipient enjoys cooking and baking, you might include a handwritten recipe card. For those who love doodling or writing to-do lists, a lovely journal and a set of long-lasting G2 gel ink pens from Pilot are a great pair. Available in more than 25 ink colors, your recipient will be able to color-code tasks or sketch lively bullet journal spreads with ease. Snag a pack for yourself and write a thoughtful note to accompany the gift. 2. Make a donation in their honor. Consider thanking those often unsung heroes doing the hard work of keeping our communities strong by making a donation to a charity close to their heart. In these uncertain times, many such organizations are in particular need of financial support. Whether it’s an animal shelter in a region affected by natural disaster, a food bank, or a nonprofit that offers support to essential workers, take a cue from the giving folks around you.
3. Give thanks to someone who always gives back. We all know someone who goes beyond their day-to-day responsibilities to help make the world a better place. Let them know just how much their work is valued by nominating them for the G2 Overachievers Grant. For the fifth year, the grant is recognizing individuals making measurable differences in the lives of others. One exceptional overachiever will be awarded $100,000 to help continue their charitable works and broaden their positive impact. Visit G2Overachievers. com before November 15 to learn more and submit your handwritten nomination. It’s a meaningful way to celebrate someone’s passion for giving and show the impact of their hard work. 4. Give the gift of relaxation. Give those always in the service of others an excuse to practice some selfcare. Whether it’s an at-home spa kit, a new book to curl up with, or a nice bottle of wine, some of the most welcome gifts are those that give someone a chance to unwind. 5. Write a thank you note. There is something so personal about putting pen to paper. In this digital age of emails and texts, a heartfelt, handwritten letter or card can become a true keepsake. With the right tools, it’s easy to let your feelings flow and craft a meaningful message. So, pick up some nice stationery and a smooth, vibrant G2 gel ink pen to let your loved ones know just how much you appreciate them. For those who kept our communities strong during this difficult year, let the holiday season be your opportunity to give thanks and give back. (StatePoint)

5 Ways To Make Your Home A Healthier Place To Be Our homes are our sanctuaries. It’s more important than ever to ensure your home is a safe and healthy environment for you and your family. Indoor air quality can have a negative effect on your health, and the air inside your home is oftentimes more polluted than the air outside. Explore five effective wellness design principles that can lead to better indoor air quality and on overall healthier home. 1. Increase natural light. One of the most effective ways for improving the interior environment of your home is by bringing in more sunlight. Sunlight also provides numerous health and wellness benefits:

Tips To Improve Indoor Air Quality And Breathe Better At Home With more of life centered at home due to cool weather and social distancing, it’s time to ensure the space where your family spends the majority of its time is healthy and safe. What many people don’t know is that concentrations of air pollutants can typically be up to five times higher inside one’s home than out, and sometimes far more, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. However, there are many simple actions you can take to breathe better in your home:

health risks to you and your family. 3. Foster ventilation. Ventilation helps your home rid itself of moisture, smoke, cooking odors and indoor pollutants. Natural ventilation is a great alternative to air conditioning in moderate climates. To ensure maximum ventilation, be selective about the insect screens you choose for your windows and doors. TruScene insect screens from Andersen for example, let in over 25 percent more fresh air and 50 percent more clarity than standard Andersen fiberglass insect screens, making them a good choice for people who want to take advantage of open windows. 4. Eliminate dust. Accumulated dust can irritate the eyes, lungs and skin and further aggravate the symptoms of people living with allergies. Sometimes attempts to free a home of dust only end up kicking up more debris. To avoid this, use wet dusting methods. When it’s time to empty vacuum bags and canisters, do so carefully — this is one task that may be best to perform outdoors. Finally, make maintaining a dustfree home easier by investing in an air purifier. Consider also selecting machine washable curtains, furniture covers and other fabrics. 5. Decorate with plants. Decorating your living spaces with plants is not only a beautiful design statement, but plants act as natural air purifiers, absorbing toxicants and converting indoor carbon dioxide into oxygen. Strong Solutions For Sticky Situations During Any Outdoor Adventure
Americans love the great outdoors and are venturing out to trails, rivers, lakes and campsites more often for a breath of fresh air from the COVID-19 restrictions in place across the country.
driving ATVs or hunting, you never know what kinds of emergencies might pop up. Serious outdoor challenges call for the strongest, most durable solutions on the market. Keep a roll of strong tape with
waterproof backing for all-weather performance on rough and dirty surfaces. For example, T-Rex Brute Force – which can hold or pull over 700 pounds – can be used in place of a rope if your ATV gets stuck in

can instantly end your outdoor fun, turning a relaxing afternoon on the water into an inconvenient or even dangerous situation. Whether you’re using it on your boots or your boat, waterproof tape is a must-have for both wet and dry conditions. Prevent problems by creating a quick waterproof seal on your gear or apply it underwater to stop a boat leak in its tracks until you can get safely to shore for a full repair. Be sure to push the tape into cracks and rough, dirty surfaces to ensure a full seal.
The most common issues include ripped or torn clothing (45%), lacking proper equipment (42%) and leaking water bottles or food containers (39%), according to a new poll conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of T-Rex Tape. Whether you’re hiking, camping, fishing or hunting, preparation is key for a fun and enjoyable experience. Read on for four types of supplies to keep on-hand for all your outdoor adventures:
your gear to tackle your most critical fixes.
1. In case of emergency: If you like getting down and dirty off-roading,
Look for a tape that’s too tough to tear by hand and equipped with

3. Reliable patching for unexpected rips and tears: Camping seems to require an endless list of supplies as it is, so it’s important to have products that can multitask. When packing for your next trip, add a durable, all-weather performance tape to your backpack to help in times of need, because
nothing is worse than a torn tent in the rain. A clear repair tape can be used to fix a damaged light, or even to seal off fishing waders and gear packs. 4. Shoe repairs on-the-go: Nothing puts a damper on your outdoor adventures like wet, grimy socks. When it comes to keeping water and mud out of your boots or shoes on your next hike, ordinary duct tape just won’t do the trick. Choose an all-weather utility tape that features super-durable, extrathick adhesive and maximum hold, even on rough and dirty surfaces. For more solutions and project ideas, visit www.trextape.com. Take Your Dental Hygiene Routine To A New Level Patient volumes are hitting only 74 percent of pre-pandemic levels, according to the American Dental Association. With many people delaying dentist office visits, at-home oral care routines are more important than ever.
“I always recommend Oral-B because not only do they make topof-the-line products, they’re actively making at-home oral care more accessible through their $1

Take your at-home dental hygiene routine to a new level of clean with these tips from “America’s dentist,” Dr. Bill Dorfman:
• Be thorough, yet gentle.
• Use the best tools. An electric toothbrush has the power needed for optimal brushing results and has been proven to be far more effective than a manual toothbrush. One new game-changing option, the Oral-B iO, has reimagined the electric toothbrush. The result of six years of dedicated research with dental professionals, its advanced features, like AI recognition and micro-vibrating bristles, help ensure you reach all areas of your mouth to provide a deeper cleaning of teeth and gums, as proven in clinical tests.
Chasing away morning breath makes it easy for most people to remember to brush in the morning, but a nighttime brushing habit is equally important. It dislodges food debris accumulated throughout the day and reduces bacteria buildup overnight. It’s also a good idea to brush during the day if you eat or drink acidic foods and beverages, which can harm enamel.
million commitment to the Dental Lifeline Network, a non-profit that provides access to life-changing dental care to those in need,” says Dr. Dorfman. In fact, a new initiative is bringing this brush, which offers a professional-clean feeling with every use,
an Oral-B iO power toothbrush. And, through the end of October, the brand is providing a special offer with the code “iOWOW” for all Oral-B iO purchases at www.oralb. com. • Brush at least two times daily.
The outer surfaces of your teeth may be most visible when you flash a grin, but the inside and top surfaces need attention, too. While you focus on reaching every nook and cranny, avoid brushing too hard. Excess pressure can cause serious damage to your mouth and lead to gum recession. To ensure an all-around clean, brush for two full minutes, with an appropriate amount of pressure, methodically focusing on different regions. • Combat contamination. Store your brush away from others
so you don’t share bacteria. Prevent mold and bacteria growth by air drying between uses. Inspect bristles for breakdown, which is a signal your brush is no longer effectively cleaning and you need a replacement head or new brush. • Go beyond brushing. On a daily basis, gently floss between each tooth individually and rub against each tooth at the gum line to loosen plaque and debris. Pay attention to signs you need to visit the dentist. Schedule a visit if you notice redness or tenderness in your gums, experience pain or sensitivity to temperature changes or have other unusual symptoms causing discomfort. For more dental health information and resources, visit oralb.com. At a time when health is top of mind, have the right knowledge and tools to optimally maintain your dental hygiene routine. Dussehra: Bommala Koluvu, A Fading Festive Art With Dolls, Sees Revival Dussehra 2020 festivities in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are seeing the revival of Bommala Koluvu, a dying tradition. During the nine days of Navratri leading up to Dussehra, Bommala Koluvu is celebrated.
The fading tradition has come to the forefront this year with more people specially youngsters at home. During Dussehra festival Bommala Koluvu is very popular among Telugu families for generations. Navaratri. “We have displayed the dolls, mostly of different deities, traditional bands and marriage processions of different states and religions to mark the celebration of the nine-day ritual during Navaratri,” J Sailaja of Berhampur t o l d n e w s agency Press Trust of India. She has taken about a week to decor a t e about 700 dolls in an 18X10 square feet room with special lights. Her
doctor husband also helped her. “It required around a week to decorate the dolls”, said Ms Sailaja and added that no plastic items have been used. “Most of the dolls are made of different kinds of woods, clay, cloth, brass and silver. While several of these dolls had been preserved by our forefathers, we have collected some from different states and abroad”, her husband added. In the past, almost all Telugu people, especially in Berhampur, celebrated Bommala Koluvu. Since children in most families are out of their homes for studies or jobs, this tradition was gradually fading. But this year as people are largely at home due to the pandemic, Bommala Koluvu is being celebrated.
How To Select Safe Toys For Kids This Holiday Season (Continued From Page 12) For those who do choose to shop through lesser-known online sellers, checking out reviews and a product’s legitimacy before making a purchase is essential. • Follow age recommendations: Playing with toys above a child’s age grade can lead to misuse and possible injury. However, 26 percent of parents in The Toy Association survey report that their kid has received a toy which was meant for kids who were older. Pay special attention to age grading on product labels and encourage family members who are also toy shopping to do the same. These are not merely suggestions, they’re firm recommendations made by safety experts based on childhood developmental stages. Find this information on labels and in product descriptions. If it’s not available, that’s a red flag and could mean the toy is illicit. • Pay attention to toys labeled 3+: Toys labeled 3+ may contain small parts that can be a choking hazard for children under 3 or kids who still mouth toys. While these items often make great gifts for older
kids, they should be stowed away after playtime to keep younger siblings safe. Not sure if a toy is small enough to be hazardous? Consider getting a Small Parts Tester to test toys and other small household objects. • Monitor playtime: Kids find ways to play with things that are not toys, including objects that can be very dangerous if accidentally swallowed. The holiday season may introduce new curiosities to the house (e.g. batteries, high-powered magnets, decorations, medications from visiting family members). On the other hand, there is a federal law that requires batteries in toys to be kept inaccessible, thanks to the use of a locking mechanism. Keep dangerous, non-toy items out-ofreach and monitor children during playtime. Some insurance providers are taking steps to help Medicare customers manage their diabetes with predictable, affordable copays.
Both plans have no deductibles and consistent copayments for select insulin drugs in all stages of Part D coverage up to the Catastrophic Coverage Stage (beneficiaries who receive ‘Extra Help’ do not qualify for this program).

At the end of each day, sit together to check off everything that’s been completed and help your kids update the schedule for the next day – this way they stay engaged and excited for what’s to come.
1. Resume the Routine. A structured routine is important during the school year. Establish set bedtimes and mealtimes for good school year habits. 2. Simplify Shopping. In addition to the usual school supplies, stock up on extra face masks, personal tissues and hand sanitizer. If your child is learning virtually, you may want to consider having extra USB chargers and ports, noise-cancelling headphones – to help older siblings concentrate – and even blue light filtering glasses for kids that will be in front of a computer or tablet more than usual. 3. Set Up a Homework Station. A dedicated space to store supplies and paperwork is key to staying organized. Let kids take pride in this space so they want to spend time studying there by having them create their own accessories and decorating them to their liking. Duck Tape provides an easy, inexpensive way to add flair to school gear. Cover note-
5. Label Supplies. Kids are forgetful and it’s easy for supplies to become misplaced or swapped with other children. To ease your mind about your child sharing pencils or accidentally grabbing the wrong backpack, have a night where you sit down and label supplies with colorful Duck Tape. Your child can select favorite colors and customize folders for each subject. If learning from home, this is also great way to prevent “he stole my pencil” arguments amongst siblings. kind creations, like pencil pouches and tablet covers. Once upon a time, a clever man sold his well to a farmer. The next day, when the farmer went to the well to fetch some water, the man said that he only sold the well and not its water. The farmer did not know what to do, and with a sad heart, he went to Akbar’s court. Birbal was told to take care of the case. The following day, the man who sold the

On learning this, Birbal said, “My friend, in that case, you either remove your water from the well or pay tax for your water because it is the farmer’s well.” The man realised his mistake and asked for forgiveness as he felt helpless and outwitted. Moral: If you cheat, you will pay for your deeds.

Make A Difference – November
By Vidya Kumar Every four years we Americans are on the most important month of the year come November. We are either elated with the results or dismayed depending upon who we voted and who won. Especially this time due to pandemic most of us have voted early and are just awaiting the results. This time the voting pattern has been tweaked in many states due to pandemic and it looks like as most pundits are predicting that we may not have the results on November 3rd unlike other election years. This would be daunting on all of us as we would be stressed out with all kinds of anxiety coming from all sides. The news channels which ever we are addicted to would be meting out the information and we get hooked on to it. How do we go about our day to day routine in such a critical situation? The best way would be to stay calm and not to react to any news that is coming out from various sources until we have the decisive results on hand. There is a democratic process and we need to trust that the system has been laid in place to protect democracy at all costs and so we are going to get through this moment too. Staying calm and not getting worried over a situation which is not a reality is the key to being mindful. I know it is easy to say but difficult to practice. My suggestion is to be in the moment and do not get stressed out with overthinking and that which is not in our hands. Stay calm and we shall as a nation would triumph because we shall pass this moment too.

Amid COVID-19 Pandemic, Stop The Spread Of Flu Amid the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, with hospitals and health care workers already overburdened, medical experts say it’s more important than ever to slow the spread of the flu. In a typical year, the flu causes tens of millions of illnesses, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations, and tens of thousands of deaths in the U.S. That is why the Ad Council, the American Medical Association (AMA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the CDC Foundation have launched a new campaign, “No One Has Time for Flu.” As part of the campaign, Dr. Susan R. Bailey, M.D., president of the AMA, is sharing important insights about flu vaccination: • Flu vaccines are safe: The flu vaccine is a safe, effective step that physicians and public health
experts recommend to protect patients and their loved ones from getting sick with influenza. This year, doctor’s offices and pharma-

cies are taking steps to ensure vaccines can be provided safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The CDC recommends that each year everyone 6 months and older (with
• Getting one is important this year: Because you can get flu and COVID-19 at the same time, it’s especially important for people with underlying health conditions that
put them at higher risk of serious complications -- and their caregivers -- to get their flu shot. At the community level, the potential impact of a bad flu season during the COVID-19 pandemic could be devastating. Getting a flu shot will help keep others healthy and help make sure health care workers and hospitals have the resources to continue to treat COVID-19 patients. • Flu protection is especially urgent for people of color: Due to longstanding health care inequities, Black and Latinx/Hispanic people are disproportionately affected by underlying conditions which can cause both COVID-19 and flu complications. This results in much greater rates of flu-related hospitalizations. Indeed, a new CDC analysis of 10 flu seasons showed that Black people were hospitalized at a rate twice as high as White people.
Black and LatinX/Hispanic communities are also less likely to get vaccinated due to a range of barriers. CDC data shows that in the 2019-20 flu season, Latinx/Hispanic adults had the lowest flu vaccination coverage (38.3 percent), with non-Hispanic Black adults next lowest (41.2 percent). • Getting vaccinated is easy: Vaccines are often free or offered at very low cost. To learn more about safe, affordable flu vaccination, including where to get one in your area, visit GetMyFluShot.org. You can also view a short video on flu vaccination by visiting, youtu.be/ cl7wNuU5IIU. “No one has time to get sick from flu -- especially this year,” says Dr. Bailey. “Getting a flu shot is one thing we all can do to help protect ourselves, our families and our communities.” (StatePoint)
