Américo Valencia-Chacón
AMERICO VALENCIA CHACÓN, Peruvian ethnomusicologist, composer and electronic engineer (born in Puno), studied at the National Conservatory of Music and at the National Engineering University in Lima. Recipient of a Fulbright scholarship, Valencia-Chacón obtained his MA in Ethnomusicology from Florida State University (1987). He also studied electronic music at the same university (Center for Music Research, FSU). In 1982, Américo Valencia-Chacón won the international Prize of Musicology CASA DE LAS AMÉRICAS, Havana, Cuba. In 1988, he won the Peruvian Prize DANIEL ALOMÍA ROBLES from the National Council of Science and Technology of Peru (CONCYTEC). He has published many ethnomusicological articles and books, including the articles written for the Diccionario de la Música Española e Hispanoamericana edited in Spain. Valencia-Chacón has composed music for piano, orchestra, film, and native instruments.
