Avalon Middle School Update
Dear Parents / Guardians: Happy New Year! On Monday we welcomed back several students to campus who had been in LaunchED@Home. For our 6th graders, it was like their first day at school all over again. However, they acclimated quickly and our week went smoothly. During the next two weeks, 8th grade students will be getting important information about 9th grade course selection through their social studies classes. Please make certain that your child is sharing this information with you. Also, Timber Creek High has shared important information with us about this process as well as about their APC+ program. Please read the information in the newsletter below carefully and take advantage of the virtual parent night and other resources TCHS makes available to you.
While we are all excited about the potential for returning to normalcy with the introduction of the Covid-19 vaccinations, please remember that the inoculation process will likely take many months. Therefore, it is important that we continue following our health and safety guidelines. Please enjoy this newsbrief. As always, remember that we are in this together. Athletic Information AMS will be offering Middle School Athletics during the second semester; however, OCPS had to make modifications due to the pandemic. We will be implementing an intramural model where students will be able to participate against other AMS students in the four traditional middle school sports (Volleyball, Track, Soccer, and Basketball) throughout second semester. There will be no competitions against other middle school teams this school year. The intramural format will allow any student on the campus (LaunchED@Home, Face-toFace, or FLVS/OCVS) to participate in a sport. Dates are listed below for when each sport will take place.
***All students planning to participate will need to submit a Sports Physical Packet to the front office or to Coach Tran in room 709 prior to sports start date and have a current GPA of 2.0 or higher. Sports Physical Packets can be picked up in the front office or found on the AMS Website. If you have any questions at all please contact the Athletic Director, Coach Tran. During the month of December, Latinos in Action at Avalon Middle School was able to help teens and children at One Heart for Women and Children by collecting over 45 toys this holiday season! Thank you everyone for helping this year with Latinos in Action and making our toy drive a success.
