Hey Key Clubbers! I can’t believe we are back in school again. Hope your summer went well, and hopefully it was one of your best summers yet. As the 20152016 year has begun, that means more Key Club events are approaching! Time to get all those hours, especially to all the senior members who want to receive a stole! It is hard to believe that this will be my last year in Key Club—four years of being in a club that I never knew would change my high school life. To all the upcoming freshman out there, stick to Key Club and be involved because you never know what opportunities will come. Love you guys and cannot wait for another amazing year with Ayala Key Club! // Calista Ho 3

After attending this year’s successful Relay for Life held at Ayala Park, from August 1st to 2nd, I finally found my favorite service event! I first heard of this event a few months into Key Club when I heard members laughing about Miss Relay and reminiscing about the 24-hour camp-out event. As this was one of the largest service events of the year, the officers spent months on preparation for details such as the Hawaiian theme and the collection of tents & E-Z Ups. Relay for Life officially began at 10 AM on a sunny Saturday morning and the turnout was remarkably impressive— wherever you looked, you saw bright, colorful booths that sold raffles or tickets for games. Thousands of people from the community came together for this event and Team Ayala Key Club had around 40 members in attendance. We were free to do whatever we wanted during this event which included buying delicious food from food trucks, getting henna, playing Bra Pong (in the name of breast cancer), decorating luminaries, and most importantly, walking around the track to honor cancer survivors and those who passed away from cancer. A member from your team had to be at the track at all times. People were even walking around the track at 3AM which really showed how dedicated everyone was! Probably the most entertaining part of Relay for Life was Miss Relay, the beauty pageant for MALES! I had never laid my eyes upon so many guys wearing makeup, dresses, wigs, stuffed bras, and high heels! Two guys from Ayala Key Club represented us as they strutted and advertised the straw hats that we were selling on stage. Relay for Life was incredibly fun and had so many diverse aspects to it! I loved the themed laps, loud music, and the atmosphere of it all. When will you ever experience people running around the track with blow horns and whistles at 2AM to wake all the sleepers up? This event not only was very exciting but also very supportive of cancer fighters and the American Cancer Society. I can’t wait for next year’s Relay! 6

* LOOK There were 12 Key Clubbers in attendance at the Litel Elementary Parent Tours event where members helped parents and students find their classrooms. Members also helped teachers individually after the registration ended. Ayala Key Club will have many more events with Litel Elementary in this upcoming year, so if you couldn’t make it to this one, make sure to sign up for the next one!

OUT FOR MORE LITEL EVENTS!

Hey Ayala Key Club! In my opinion, even though there are many cons to August, such as going back to school, finishing up summer homework, and waking up early, I think there are some pros in August. For example, August is when you can go back to school SHOPPING which is honestly pretty exciting (who doesn’t enjoy buying new clothes and pens), and it’s also when you can catch up with friends and see the gorgeous meteor showers at night! That being said, remember to stay positive in the midst of school, even though it can get tiresome! Also, look out for all of the upcoming service events! More service events = better newsletters! In the Spirit of Service, Claire Park 12
