However Virtual Stations that aim to minimize complexity with flexible production environment with an optimized footprint, centralized visualization and management for flexible re-balancing and quick adaptations, reduce the cost for introduction of new products up to 57%. By distributing and virtualizing the control logic, processes and operation, new products can be added or moved without the need for re-locating or new equipment. One of the most efficient hybrid joining method is Adhesive Bonding + Self Pierce Riveting. This combination is developed to the joining technology in the production of aluminum car body structures, in particular when using aluminum sheets. In early 80’s, spot welding was tested on aluminum car bodies, but crash tests indicated a lack of energy absorption in the spot weld joints that was degrading the survival cell characteristics. It is observed that applying adhesive on riveted joints double the energy consumption compared to spot welding.

The adhesive is pre-applied to the faying surfaces, the joint is formed and the rivets are inserted. The adhesive is displaced by the self-piercing rivet and surrounds the resulting mechanical linkage. In an adhesive-intensive joint, the rivets serve as peel stops and thus compensate for the adhesive’s inherent shortcoming in peel performance. In contrast, the adhesive excels in shear performance. The net result is a joint that shows significantly improved shear strength and peel performance and a much better fatigue life.

The importance of the tool itself is obviously the most important factor but probably the most important is the design of the speed governor in a tool! So that we can keep as high speed as possible during load. This will generate a higher power output and more revolutions for the abrasive to work on the work piece. It is also important that the governor has a stable design so that the speed does not fluctuate, which potentially can be very dangerous! This is something Atlas Copco is very successful of designing at!

Tool power translates directly to material removal, higher output=higher material removal rate.

Atlas Copco’s GTG models are powered by a motor with the latest turbine technology that gives extremely high power-to-weight ratios compared to normal vane motors.

This means that you can select a lighter, more compact tool without sacrificing the material removal rate. Compared to a vane motor, a turbine motor provides up to 40 percent more efficiency for the same specific job and at the same time reduces the total energy consumption.

A tired operator removes less material.

Good ergonomic design leads to higher productivity. Tool weight, sound level, vibration, tool design, dust extraction or not are all-important factors that influence the operator comfort and finally the productivity of the grinding operation. If the tool make it easy to access the material to be ground the faster the operation and thereby the higher the productivity.

The importance of the tool itself is obviously the most important factor but not only one. On the one hand, the overall installation is important for the operator to have as ergonomically work place as possible, but even more important for the productivity is the airline installation. If the operator has not good airline, the tool will not get enough air and the tool will not perform at its maximum.

On the other hand, the selection of abrasive is very important! Of course it is important to use the right abrasive for the right material, but also to use premium abrasives since the will be used longer and have a higher material removal rate. When using premium abrasives the importance of a premium tool also increase the productivity and we can easier see the benefits of our tools. With lower quality tools, the abrasives will wear out faster, increase the abrasive costs and have a lower productivity.

Finally yet importantly, the operator’s skill is very much affecting the outcome of the grinding operation. A skillful operator removes more material and consumes less abrasive than a less experienced one. To help the operator with additional aids will help keeping them agile and not get tired which also increases the productivity. Here it is also important to think of the ergonomics of the tool, size and feel, weight, sound,vibration etc. since an exhausted operator will decrease the productivity.

As the nut turns, it stretches the stud. The torque setting for the tool translates into load on the connection. When the tools are used following the appropriate specifications for lubrication, coating and other factors, a desired clamp force can be produced. Tension; With tensioners, the action is not directly on the nut, rather tension is applied directly to the stud in order to produce stretch. Once the prestretch is achieved, the nut can be tightened. Hem flange joints are among the most demanding joining processes in automotive body in white (BIW) production due to the hemmed joints’ vulnerability to corrosion. In paint shop applications a major challenge is high quality seam sealing to prevent corrosion.

To improve long term quality for structural bonding and for corrosion protection SCA introduces the Swirl application pattern. This allows applying the adhesive in a way that it reliably fills the hemmed area during joining. This seals the joints against humidity and secures structural strength.

For seam sealing the Swirl application provides an optimal material dispense to ensure a reliable seal.

The E-Swirl 2 AdX applicator can be used for various applications. A typical automatic layout consists of a combination of five basic components in different versions.

Besides that, additional equipment can be chosen individually so it can be customized regarding customers’ needs.

By choosing either the SYS 6000 or the ASC 5000 system controller there are several settings as well as the possibility of monitoring parameters available. Atlas Copco’da Servis Bölüm Müdürü olarak görevim Türkiye pazarı için servis iş alanının gelişmesini ve büyümesini, iç ve dış müşteri memnuniyetini sağlamak. Müşterilerimizin “Stratejik partneri” olarak, onlara bilgi yoğun hizmetler sunarak; çalışma sürelerini arttırmak, süreç kalitelerini iyileştirmek, ve üretim, bakım ve kalite proseslerinde verimliliklerini arttırmak istiyoruz. Servis bölümü Atlas Copco için son derece önemli çünkü müşterilerin ürünlerimiz ile mükemmel bir deneyime sahip olmasına yardımcı oluyor. Bunun yanında akredite kalibrasyon laboratuarımızda da kapasitemizi 0,2-70.000 Nm’lere çıkardık. Amacım kendi endüstri alanımızdaki bilgi ve becerisi en yüksek ekibi oluşturmak ve iş yerimizi en yetenekli mühendislerin kendilerini geliştirmek ve gerçekleştirmek için çalışmak istediği bir işyeri yapmak. En iyi mühendisler için akla ilk gelen iş yeri olmak istiyoruz. Harika bir ekibim var ve her gün aramıza yeni arkadaşlarımız katılıyor.

Müşterilerimize bir telefon kadar uzağız, müşterilerimiz de çözüme bir telefon kadar yakınlar. Odaklandığım konuların başında operasyonel verimlilik ve mükemmellik, dijitalleşme ve ekibin bilgi ve deneyimini arttırmak var. What is your job description at Atlas Copco? What are your goals? Can you tell us about your transformationdevelopment plans?

I work as the Service Manager at Atlas Copco and my mission is to develop and grow service business in Turkey market and to improve internal and external customer satisfaction. Being our customers’ “strategic partner”, we want to provide them with knowledge intensive services which result in: increased uptime, improved process quality, and increased efficiency in production, maintenance and quality processes. Service department is crucial for Atlas Copco as we want our customers to have excellent experience with our products. Today the customers are not seeking for products but for solutions and no solution that does not cover service is possible. We offer our customers service packages with all components that meet the requirements of our customers and provide the highest value to them. We offer extensive options to our customers: Central service workshop at Tuzla, tool management centers that serve as special workshops set up at the site of the customer, our site services, installation packages, tool cover maintenance agreements, optimization modules...

Furthermore our Mobile Service Center was commissioned last year. At that service, our certified service personnel provide installation, repair, maintenance and calibration services to our customers with a fully equipped service truck, keeping available all required equipment and spare parts. And we have increased the capacity of our accredited calibration laboratory to 0,2-70.000 Nm. My aim is to build the most competent operation of its type in the industry and the obvious workplace for the most talented engineers wanting to develop in their profession. “A first in mind workplace for talented engineers.” I have an amazing team and we continue to add new members to our team.

We are just a phone call away from our customers and our customers can reach us just by one call. The top issues that I focus on are operational efficiency and excellence, digitalization and improving the knowledge and experience of the team. 2012’ten bu yana, Atlas Copco bünyesinde görev alıyorsunuz. Bu süre boyunca Atlas Copco’da çalışmanın sizi en çok etkileyen yönleri neler oldu? Atlas Copco’nun kurum kültürü, teknolojisi, organizasyonu ve ekibi hakkında ne düşünüyorsunuz?

Hangi işi yaparsanız yapın, yaptığınız işi sevmek önemli, ben de Servis bölümüne liderlik etmekten büyük keyif alıyorum. Her gün yeni şeyler öğrenmekten ve ekipler oluşturmaktan keyif alıyorum, açık bir vizyon ve strateji oluşturmaya inanıyorum.

Eğer nereye gitmek istediğinizi bilirseniz, kendi sorumluluk alanlarını proaktif olarak yönetmek herkes için daha kolay oluyor, aynı zamanda daha eğlenceli. “Neden”i açıklamaya özel bir vakit ayırıyorum, çünkü her şey bir “Neden” ile başlar.

Evet Türkiye ekibinin içindeki en genç BLM’im, bildiğim kadarıyla global ekipte de en genç service BLM’iyim fakat aynı zamanda Atlas Copco Türkiye ekibinin içindeki en eskilerden biriyim. Ben başladığımda 6-7 kişilik bir ekip olan servis bugün 42 kişilik alanında açık ara en büyük servis organizasyonu.

Sürdürebilir başarıya giden kestirme bir yol yok, sürekli olarak doğru yatırımları gerektiği zamanda yapmalısınız. Biz de inandığımız şeylere yatırım yaptık, insanlara, eğitime, ekipman ve sistemlere, ve herkesin net bir sorumluluğa sahip olmasını

vision and our customer’s conversion to Industry 4.0., we are expanding our service solutions in respect of “data driven services” that are based on automation and data.

You are working at Atlas Copco since 2012. What impressed you the most during your time at Atlas Copco? What do you think of Atlas Copco’s corporate culture, technology, organization and team?

In any job you do it’s important to love what you do and right now I am enjoying leading Service Business Line very much.

I really enjoy learning new things every day and building teams, and I strongly believe in creating a clear vision and strategy. If you know where you want to go, it’s easier for everybody to proactively drive their own area of responsibility , and it is also more fun. I devote my time on explaining “Why?” because everything starts with the question “ Why?”. We are so good in helping each other at Atlas Copco and this is partly due to the huge commitment of individual team members. Our organization has had a strong growth in recent years, from a small unit to a large operation delivering complex solutions to a efficiency oriented market. We should be the one who best understand our customers and be best within our core competences. We believe there is always a better way. Asking for help is a sign of maturity in Atlas Copco , so people don’t hesitate to open up a dialogue with all team members to explore ideas and solve problems quickly And in my opinion the most important thing, the reason that I am committed to Atlas Copco is that no matter what we always keep our words at Atlas Copco.

You are one of the youngest BLMs in the team. What is the biggest success you and the team you lead accomplished? What are the future targets of your team?

Yes, I am the youngest BLM in the Turkey team and as far as I know I am also the youngest service BLM in the global team as well, yet I am one of the oldest in Atlas Copco Turkey team. We had a team of 6-7 persons when I joined and we are by far the biggest service organization with 42 team members today. There is no shortcut to sustainable success, you consistently have to make the right investments. So we invested in things we believed, to workforce, training, equipment and systems and we made sure that everyone had a clear responsibility. It was not that easy to take over the responsibility of the biggest team of the company before turning 30 years old, that was a two-year period where I worked day and night without taking any time off but eventually the team and I overcame all the challenges and exceeded the targets we had set for ourselves. There was a great transformation; we re-designed our organizational structure so that we are closer to our customers and of course to improve our efficiency, we had new team members and they widened the knowledge of

sağladık. 30 yaşından önce şirketin en büyük ekibininin sorumluluğunu almak çok kolay olmadı, iki yıl kadar izin dahi kullanmadan gece gündüz çalıştığım bir dönemdi fakat sonunda ekibimle beraber tüm zorlukları aştık, koyduğumuz tüm hedeflerin üzerinde bir performans sergiledik. Büyük bir değişim gerçekleştirdik; organizasyonel yapımızı müşterilerimize yakın olabilmek ve verimliliğimizi arttırmak için tekrar dizayn ettik, ekibimize yeni arkadaşlarımız katıldı ve bu arkadaşlarımız ekibin içindeki bilgi birikimini daha genişletti.

Yoğun bir eğitim programı uyguladık, eğitim saatlerimizi iki kat arttı ve aynı zamanda yurtdışındaki önemli Atlas Copco müşteri merkezleri etkileşimi arttırmak için organizasyonumuzdan birçok arkadaşımızı bu müşteri merkezlerine ziyaretlere gönderdik. Bugün hem otomasyon hem de software konusunda müşterilerimize en iyi desteği verebilecek durumda olmaktan çok mutluyum. Bugün müşterilerimize geri dönüş sürelerimizi, ülkemizin gümrükteki zorluklarına rağmen yarı yarıya kısaltmış durumdayız. Sahada daha fazla ve daha iyi yayılan bir saha servis ekibi sayesinde servisteki en önemli göstergelerden biri olan yolda geçen süre/çalışma süresi oranını %75 oranında iyileştirdik. Müşterilerimizle olan stratejik partnerliğimizi birçok yeni bakım anlaşmasıyla daha ileriye taşıdık. Müşterilerimizin başarısı bizim başarımız! Ekibim ile beraber müşterilerimizin başarısı için çalışmaya devam ediyor olacağız.

Profesyonel hayatınızda yaşadığınız en büyük sorun/ sorunlar nelerdi? Bunların üstesinden nasıl geldiniz?

Atlas Copco’ya başladığım dönemde birçok müşterimiz ekipmanları arızalandığında reaktif tamir hizmetinden oldukça memnundu. Bugün müşterilerimiz bizden üretimlerine herhangi bir duruş olmadan devam edebilecekleri proaktif hizmetler sunmamızı bekliyorlar. Her üretim hattının kendine has zorlukları var. Üretim verilerini hızlı bir şekilde analiz ederek gizli kalmış potansiyeli açığa çıkarıyor, arızaları henüz daha oluşmadan önleyebiliyoruz. Moduler servis ürün yapımız sayesinde müşterilerimizin çalışma sürelerini arttırabiliyor, proses kalitelerini iyileştirebiliyor, ve üretim, bakım ve kalite proseslerinde verimliliklerini arttırabiliyoruz. Bugünün dünyasında endüstriyel ekipmanlarınızdan maksimumu alabilmek için ideal bir servis partneriyiz. Tabi ki bu dönüşümü bu kadar kısa süre içinde yapmak hiç kolay olmadı, iş özel hayat dengesini çok zorlayan bir süreçti. Her yıl 70000km’den fazla yol yapıyorsanız (uçak yolculukları hariç), farklı şehirlerde her hafta en az 3 gece konaklıyorsanız, esnek çalışma saatlerine uyumlu ve seyahat etmeyi seviyor olmalısınız. Ekip arkadaşlarınızı, müşterilerinizi, işinizi sevmek çok önemli. Ve Pablo Picasso’nun dediği gibi “İlham diye bir şey var, fakat sizi çalışıyorken bulmalı.”

We had very intensive trainings, in fact training hours doubled and we also sent many of our friends in the organization to major customer centers abroad in order to improve our interaction with them. I am very happy that today we are in a position to provide the best support to our customers both in regards to automation and software.

Despite all the difficulties we face at the customs, we have managed to reduce the customer response time by half. Thanks to a more crowded and better distributed site service team, we have improved the ratio of time spent on road/work time by 75%, which is one of the most important indicators in the service business. We took our strategic partnership with our customers one step further with the new maintenance contracts we are making. Our customers success is our success! Me and my team will continue to support the success of our customers.

What was/were the biggest challenge(s) you had in your professional life? How did you cope with this?

When I started Atlas Copco , many customers were happy with reactive repair service when equipment broke down. Today customers expect us to provide proactive service to prevent any downtime in the production. All production lines have their unique challenges. We can quickly analyze production data and reveal the hidden potential and prevent failures before they arise. Thanks to our modular service product structure, we can improve our customers’ uptime, process qualities and increase their productivity in production, maintenance and quality processes. Today we are the ideal service partners to help them get the maximum from their industrial equipment. Obviously it was not easy to go through this transformation in such a short time, there were times when I struggled to balance my private and business life. You travel more than 70.000 kilometers every year (excluding air travels), you have to stay minimum 3 nights every week at different cities, which requires you to love travelling and be flexible in work hours. It is very important that you like your team members, customers and your job. And as Pablo Picasso said “Inspiration exists but it has to find us working.”
