Baby kid products are an important idem for families… Demand for the products is increasing in parallel with the birth rate. We can say that Turkey is an active player in the international arena at this point. With its growing economy, Turkey has an important role in the international arena. In particular, growth of the birth rate and development of awareness of parents increase the interest of foreign companies for the Turkish baby kid sector. It is expected baby kid sector to be more effective in the future with innovations and interests which Turkish companies show for the international fairs. We continue to represent sector with Baby & Kid Store Product Export 2016 issue to be distributed in Kind + Jugend Fair, Cologne, Germany between 15 and 18 September, 2016 and Mother, Baby & Child Expo, Tehran, Iran between 25 and 28 September, 2016. As Baby & Kid Store magazine, we point out different country markets to development of baby kid sector. Şti. with his own brand BabyNEO and his sister brand NeoComfort. Over the years, becomming a leading brand in the market, our product range got enlarged and now except cloth diaper and swimming diaper, we are also producing many different kinds of nursery pillows, baby towels, blankets, sleeping bags, travelling pillows, training pants, bibs, organic toys and etc. for babies and menstural pads, breast pads, incontinence pants and cloth diapers for adults. Beginning of 2016 we also started to produce ergonomic baby carrier with our own brand and shortly it became the most preferred model by mothers. Every year we are adding new products to our product range. With the help of our strong development and production team, our aim is to provide best quality with competitive price, so that parents can easly use the best and healthy products for their babies. We only use certificated materials in production. Most of our products are produced from Technical Microfiber, Organic Cotton and Bamboo qualities. “Turkish Clothing industry is growing with exports exceeding $ 20 billion” We have recently conducted an exclusive interview with Şeref Fayat, President of Turkish Clothing Manufacturers Association (TGSD), about the activities of TGSD which plays an active role in the development of the clothing industry in Turkey by generating the necessary environment for the sector abroad and introducing and leading in the necessary authority. Fayat’s outline for himself and for the Association follows: We continue our work with Ufuk 2030 project ‘Sectoral Road Map!’

“I started to work as the President of TGSD in January 2015. We represent Turkish Clothing Industry with 24 specialists, successful and dynamic members of Board in bureaucracy and international parent organizations abroad within the framework TGSD vision and mission.”Founded in 1976 with the purpose of preparing the environment necessary for the development of clothing industry in Turkey. TGSD has approximately 400 members from all kinds of the sector, mostly ready wear. TGSD has become an «Association for Public Benefit» with a Government Decree in 2003. TGSD represents Turkish clothing industry abroad; member of International Apparel Federation (IAF) and European Textile and Apparel Federation (EURATEX).”

TGSD continues its presence in the Turkish clothing sector by successful representation abroad in international organizations. TGSD became a member of International Apparel Federation, IAF in 1988. TGSD took its place in the IAF Board in 1990; Hasan Arat became the IAF president in 1996, followed by Umut Oran in 2003. 12th and 19th IAF World Apparel Conventions were organized by TGSD and held in Istanbul.TGSD became a full member of EURATEX, European Textile and Apparel Federation which brings the European textile and clothing industries together under a single roof, on 6 June 1997. This membership has enabled Turkish clothing industrialists’ rights to be discussed on the same table as European industrialists and has completed the integration process with European Economic Cooperation.Turkish Clothing Manufacturers’ Association (TGSD), a leading NGO of the industry, is organizing an international conference, titled “9thTGSD Istanbul Fashion Conference” on October 12th – 13th 2016 at Four Seasons Bosphorus Hotel Istanbul, Turkey.Istanbul Fashion Conference where we host many esteemed guests from Turkey and abroad occupies a significant place in promotion of our country and sector. Our activity enables cooperation between fashion, brand, design, accessory, and retail dimensions. In today’s Turkey where supporting the industrial production, which is important for Turkish economy, has become


an obligation on the way of 2023 targets, Turkey Clothing Manufacturers’ Association (TGSD) has launched the works in order to ensure that the textile and apparel manufacturers are classified as in the Turquality program and gain the identity of qualified manufacturer through “Qualified Manufacturer Certificate Program”. With this project, it is expected that 800.000 unregistered employees in the garment sector would be registered with the incentives to be provided in Turkish industry. It is estimated that the unregistered employment figure would increase if the other sectors are considered in terms of this situation. One of the targets of this project is to make Turkish textile and apparel exports, which has reached 30 billion dollars of export volume, more qualified and more powerful.

Qualified Manufacturer Certificate Program

The Turkish chambers and commodity exchanges and Ege, Uludağ, İstanbul Exporters’ Associations were included this project which is conducted with the coordination of TGSD and Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Development, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Customs and Trade. The parties came together with Nihat Zeybekçi, Economy Minister, and discussed the works to be done for the sector by organising a workshop and they decided to prepare a draft law. Saying that Turkish industrialists will be supported and there will be a qualified production process with “Qualified Manufacturer Certificate Program”, Şeref Fayat, Chairman of TGSD, stated that this project would be an example for the other productive sectors. Pointing out to the importance of the productive sectors for the 2023 targets of Turkey and employment chances of the new generation, Mr. Fayat said that: “There are serious difficulties in the industrial sector engaged in production in Turkey. For example, 91 % of the 53 thousand garment manufacturers consist of small firms which employ 1-19 people. These companies refrain from increasing their employment because of the fact that they could encounter many problems. The companies creating employment encounter many different problems. Many manufacturers, which employ more than 19 people, are in two minds about stopping the production. We aim that 10% of the firms would be supported and the other firms are encouraged in order to benefit from this support by creating more employment chances.

How the firms will benefit from this support?

It is planned that the firms can benefit from all kinds of support and encouragement provided by the state through the document given within the scope of the “Qualified Manufacturer Certificate Program” prepared for the textile and garment firms which employ more than 50 people. The scope of the supports, which include supporting R&D and P & D activities, tax advantage, supporting the employment, will be clearly identified in the coming period. It is planned that the draft law would be prepared in a year and it would be enacted and implemented after TGSD and the Ministry of Economy detail the works.

Practices in the World

In the world where the competition is ruthlessly experienced, the countries could offer various practices in order to support the manufacturers. China is the best example for this situation. Conducting works about acquiring the identity of qualified manufacturer in the textile and garment sectors, one of the important sectors, became the main topic in Turkey in order that these sectors could be better in the competition. It is expected that the competition would increase after textile and garment sectors acquire the identity of “qualified manufacturer” and then they would continue to work with the world’s leading brands.

There are 53,000 manufacturer-producer in the garment sector, according to TUIK. About number of 500 companies and close to 1 percent of them are engaged in production of baby and children. There were a few baby-production company in the field of children’s clothing. They were gathered in a large extent Bursa and Marmara. It is also taking a similar share in the production and export value. Stating that there are two key markets for the Turkish garment industry, Fayat said, “One of them is EU countries are the United States and other developed countries. 75 per cent share of exports to these countries and exports are largely as a supplier. The second group are close to markets and in neighboring markets. Turkish brands are exporting to these markets for their own marketing channels. Russian market is a very important market and the normalization process will be a positive impact on exports. Iran again offers a remarkable market potential. Our brands can enter to the Iran market through retail. Therefore, the Iranian market requires a significant investment at the same time.”

New competitors in response to rising production costs in China; Bangladesh, Vietnam and Pakistan

Declaring that in the last 10 years Chinese factor lead Turkish garment sector for more expensive products with high added value, bearing design and fashion elements instead of contract manufacturing, Fayat said, “In addition to that, branding and located in the internal market become important options in the garment sector in Turkey. China is converting the Turkish clothing industry in a positive way. However, in recent years production costs increased in China and some large new competitors such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, Pakistan released. However, Turkish garment sector continues to compete with them with its proximity and value-added benefits.” Recording that many elections, political uncertainties, difficulties in foreign policy and terrorism adversely affects brand value of the apparel industry, Fayat said, “The garment is a matter of fashion and is a business in which customers and consumers express themselves through the clothing. Therefore the image of Turkey directly affects the image of the sector. As one of the events of Kind & Jugend, which is one of the best fairs for baby and toddler products fairs worldwide, Consumer Award 2016 competition ended with an intense participation in cooperation with Baby & Kid Store and Turkiye Cocuk magazines. With the competition via the

website of Baby & Kid Store magazine, thousands of parents selected best products in 8 different categories. During the competition an intensive promotional activities performed in Yemek Zevki and Turkiye Cocuk magazines, which followed by mothers with pleasure, Anneysen.com and other internet and social media platforms. Finalist brands supported the project. Choosing best products for their children in line

with their experience, 8 lucky parents won the products they chose in the competition. KIDS’ TIME 2017 - in Poland, in February...

The eight International Fair of Toys and Products for Mother and Child KIDS’ TIME is held in Targi Kielce from 23 to 25 February 2017

Last year’s expo was the showcase for 407 companies from 17 countries of all corners of the world. Representatives of Austria, Belgium, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Switzerland, Ukraine, USA, Great Britain and Italy had their expo booths at KIDS’ TIME - they used nearly 14,000 square meters of the exhibition space in the 7 exhibition halls. Kielce exhibition and congress centre attracted almost 5.5 thousand business-insiders from 41 countries.

The International Fair of Toys and Products for Mother and Child KIDS’ TIME is a truly Business to Business event. The Expo has brought together producers and distributors of prams and push-chairs, car seats, toys and other child-care products and services. Companies which offer textiles and clothing have also marked their presence here. Most of exhibitors sign lucrative, international contracts at the Kielce expo. Products and services on offer at this year’s expo as well as the expo stands quality and the organizational aspect demonstrate the highest possible standards. The expo preparation phase was not easy for us, it required the company’s efforts and commitment. Now we are satisfied with the results. We have showed our company in the best of lights and this strategy paid off. We are particularly pleased with that fact that a great number of foreign visitors called in our expo stand. We hosted industry-insiders from southern and western Europe - said Mr. Łukasz Kot - a textile manufacturer after last year’s exhibition finished.

New Brand Of Baby And Kids Clothing; “Juniokids”! Bursa Baby and Kids Clothing industry is in a state of flux and is targeting to open to global markets, through a significant development with the clustering studies, Junioshow Exhibition, international delegations, buyer’s delegations and last of all; the second Ur-Ge Project.

Bursa baby and kids clothing sector is growing with new strategies; clustering projects, Junioshow exhibition, new market researches, international business commitees, buyers’ delegations, educations and consultancy services. Turkey ready-made clothing industry has achieved a very significant position in today’s world with considerable advances every year. Turkey, exporting ready-made clothing to 195 countries as of 2015, has the title of 7th ready-made clothing exporter of the world. Baby and kids wear industry, one of the sub-sectors of the ready-made clothing sector, began to develop in 1990’s and has a share of %12 of world’s ready made trade with 153 bilion dollars according to 2014 data. Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is the largest chamber of commerce and industry in Turkey, is

conducting two clustering projects with the support of Ministry of Economy of Turkish Republic, for baby and kids clothing manufacturer companies in Bursa, which itself meets approximately %80 of Turkey’s total production. Now with these projects it’s aimed to enter the new international markets, to increase market shares, to improve export and corporate capacities in order to place a magic role in the world’s baby and child clothing manufacturing industry. The first cluster has 34 members and the second has 38 members with an average of 17 years experience in the industry; totally 72 companies has come together to create their own fashion through design-oriented and qualified manufacturing in Turkey; the manufacturing zone of many globally known ready-made clothing companies; are opened


to global markets in higher amounts every other day. It is aimed with the cluster to acquire common action awareness to baby and kids wear sellers, to increase export capacity, to enter into new markets and to create more comprehensive joint business models through this cooperation. Main activities of the Project are Clustering Studies, Training and Consultancy Services, Trade Missions, Buyers’ Delegations. CLUSTERING STUDIES Under the leadership of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and in cooperation with BEKSİAD (Bursa Baby and Childrens Wear Manufacturers Association), Project activities was started on April 2015, with the support of Turkish Ministry of Economy. As the first step of the Project; A Needs Analysis Study was done. Within the scope of this study, current situation of the sector, the sides and abilities of the member companies to be developed, training and consultancy needs and target markets has been determined. Right after the approval of the Needs Analysis Report by Turkish Ministry of Economy, the Project activies has been started. The sectoral exhibitons and fashion shows in 10 countries which are determined as target markets was searched, listed and submitted to member companies. First activity was “Running Effective Meetings Training”, which was held with the participation af all cluster members. After that, a trend and design consultancy was received in order to make the companies ready for Junioshow exhibiton to be held in Bursa on January 2016. Companies were informed about new trends, how to prepare new collections according to these trends, design, production and marketing of new collections. Then trainings about Marketing and Clustering was held. Trainings and consultancy services will be carried out till the end of the Project. After the Project was completed, companies will be able to get individual consultancy support from the Ministry of Economy for 3 years long. TRADE MISSIONS Project’s first trade mission took place in New York, United States of America at 17-23 October 2015. The cluster members visited ENK Children’s Club Expo and had B2B meetings with American buyers. Second trade mission of the cluster was to South Africa at 9-15 May 2015. 40 members of the cluster attended the visit. Within the program B2B meetings held cooperation with Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Cape Town. The cluster attended Mama Magic Expo which is one of the biggest baby and children clothing fair in South Africa, with Juniokids info stand and also had B2B meetings with South African companies. In September 2016 Juniokids cluster will attend the Kind und Jugend Trade Show and Cologne, Germany. 18 of the cluster’s companies will exhibit and present their latest products in children’s fashion and childcare. The Juniokids pavilion will be located at the Hall 10.1 Stand D051 & D061.

Juniokids cluster will also attend to ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas, USA. The cluster will have a pavilion and 20 companies will participate as exhibitors in the fair. BUYERS’ DELEGATION Within the UR-GE Project, 145 buyers from 26 different countries came to Bursa for Junioshow Baby, Kidswear & Kids Necessities Fair. The companies had the opportunity to present their products, meet and start to work with different clients. The second buyers’ delegation event held between 31 May and 3 June 2016. The event which took place in Almira Hotel, Bursa was like a mini expo for baby and children clothing sector. 120 potential buyers from 18 countries came and visited the event. CORPORATE IDENTITY Within the UR-GE Project, the cluster had a joint corporate identity. “Juniokids” name was chosen to represent Bursa’s baby and kids clothing sector and logo of the Juniokids brand designed. At the same time www.juniokids.com website builded to promote the Juniokids cluster. The website includes information about companies’ product range, age groups, brands etc., also news about cluster’s events. JUNIOSHOW FAIR Junioshow Baby, Kidswear & Kids Necessities Fair is a significant platform bringing the bests of the Bursa’s baby and kids clothing sector together. First edition of the Show was held in Bursa between 13-17 January 2016. Bringing the bests of the sector in a single platform, Junioshow offer participants and visitors a distinguishing experience of expo with trend areas designed by worldwide famous trend professionals; trend talks with the participation of major designers; and fashion shows. Junioshow is organized with the cooperation of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Tuyap Bursa Fair Center, with the significant support of Baby and Kids Clothing Industry Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (BEKSIAD). The next editions of Junioshow will be at 10-14 January 2017 and 5-8 July 2017. 2. UR-GE PROJECT After the success of the URGE Project, other baby and children clothing manufacturers wanted to join a cluster. Following this, Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the second cluster and applied to Turkish Ministry of Economy. The Ministry accepted the project and now there are 38 childrenswear producing companies on the second UR-GE project. First activity of the project is “Needs Analysis” which includes visiting the companies, determine their needs and demands and form cluster’s road map for future years.
