BECKONING A NEW ERA OF HOSPITALITY
An iconic property in the Kingdom, the newly-reopened Sheraton Bahrain Hotel has set its sights on redefining luxury and sustainability in the hospitality sector. Thomas Flindt, the hotel’s General Manager, reflects on the transformation and the challenges of balancing heritage with innovation.
“This isn’t just a refurbishment,” says Mr. Flindt. “We wanted to do more than change the wallpaper and carpets.” The hotel, which originally opened in 1981, underwent an extensive redesign to modernise its structure and enhance guest experiences. Key changes include larger, floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the interiors with natural light and create an open, welcoming atmosphere. “Everything feels lighter and more modern now, with furnishings and colours that appeal to a wider audience,” he adds.
Sustainability played a crucial role in the redesign. “Marriott International has ambitious goals, such as achieving carbon neutrality by 2050,” says Mr. Flindt. The Sheraton Bahrain Hotel has implemented advanced building management systems to control energy usage efficiently. Solar panels power the hotel’s carpentry needs, and water heaters have replaced traditional tanks to conserve energy. Additionally, the property has eliminated single-use plastics and now bottles water on-site in glass containers. “These efforts are not just about compliance but a commitment to a sustainable future,” he explains.
Art and culture have also been seamlessly woven into the fabric of the hotel. “Every piece of art and pottery you see is created by Bahraini artists,” Mr. Flindt shares. This thoughtful incorporation of local craftsmanship extends to the hotel’s culinary offerings and programming.
On the dining front, the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel offers a mix of
reimagined classics and bold new concepts. The Al Safir Restaurant, now dubbed Wild, brings a fresh approach to dining with an extensive hydroponic garden growing herbs, salads and edible flowers.
The rooftop Argentinian lounge, set to open by April, promises to add a unique culinary experience. “We’re creating something that hasn’t been seen on the island before,” says Mr. Flindt.
The revamped hotel boasts over 2,000sqm of meeting and event space, including the Al Taj Ballroom, which has doubled in size. “Weddings and corporate events are a significant focus for us,” Mr. Flindt notes, highlighting the indoor-outdoor capabilities of the ballroom, which connects seamlessly to the pool area.
With over a decade in Bahrain, Mr. Flindt has grown deeply connected to the country. “I initially thought I’d stay for three years,” he reflects, “but Bahrain has a way of making you stay longer.” His experience in the hospitality industry spans multiple countries, but Bahrain holds a special place as his longest tenure.
“It’s the people and the community that make it truly unique.”
As for what sets Sheraton Bahrain apart from its growing competition, Mr. Flindt is confident: “Our legacy, prime location and completely
reimagined spaces make us a trusted and compelling choice.”
Located minutes from the airport and diplomatic areas, the hotel’s accessibility is another strong selling point.
REVOLUTIONISING EVENT MANAGEMENT
Bahrain’s burgeoning events sector has seen phenomenal growth in recent years. 24 EA HR Consultancy WLL Director, Faraz Ahmad Shah, shares insights into the company’s journey, vision and strategies as It ventures into the Kingdom’s event management sector, aiming to connect brands with its audiences and make a significant mark in the industry.
When asked about what inspired the founding of 24 EA HR Consultancy WLL, Mr. Shah explains: “We have been running the organisation successfully for two years across various sectors. We’re now focusing on event management since events provide an unparalleled opportunity to connect brands with their audiences and effectively market clients’ products.”
The company’s ability to offer versatile consultancy services and its in-depth understanding of marketing, hospitality and human resources, has become a hallmark of its success. “Our expertise in hospitality marketing and HR services sets us apart from other event management companies,” he shares.
“Furthermore, creativity is at the core of everything we do. Our team ensures that each event is executed flawlessly, creating memorable experiences for all involved,” he adds.
The company aims to build its reputation as a top-tier consultancy agency while organising major events that bring bigger brands and artists to Bahrain. “Our mission is clear–we aim to be the top consultancy agency, providing expert guidance across all sectors, and a leader in event management by hosting large-scale events with renowned brands and artists,” he emphasises.
The event management industry poses numerous challenges, especially in attracting large audiences for concerts. “While ensuring maximum attendance is a challenge, our expert team is developing strategies to engage deeper with the public’s interests and demands. Our focus on providing targeted marketing and understanding audience preferences will enable us to overcome these obstacles,” he explains.
Building a strong client base has been a priority for the company. “We’ve approached top organisations including PS Global Energy Middle East WLL, Motivation Financial & Commercial Broker LLC, and Right Way WLL in Bahrain,” he reveals. These partnerships are key to ensuring the company’s growth and success.
When it comes to managing events, 24 EA HR Consultancy WLL prioritises corporate clients. “We concentrate on promoting our clients’ brands in the most effective and timely manner, and concerts and networking events provide an ideal platform,” he explains. “Our approach ensures that brands gain maximum visibility, with the added benefit of face-to-face interactions with the audience.
Looking ahead, 24 EA HR Consultancy WLL has ambitious plans for the next five years. “We aim to be the top company in our field, setting trends and surprising the MENA market with our creative and motivational approach,” he states. With a solid strategy and a commitment to excellence, 24 EA HR Consultancy WLL is poised to make a significant impact in the ever-growing event management industry.
“Stay tuned for more adventures,” Mr. Shah concludes, hinting at exciting plans ahead.
Finland National Day
“I was given the opportunity to play at a pub called Spanish Fly in Hyderabad, my birthplace,” reflects DJ Thomas on his breakthrough. “It was one of the most exciting times of my life, as I had no idea what was in store for me.” Coming from a family that loved music, he grabbed the chance with both hands and never looked back. “At the time, resources to gather music were scarce compared to now. It was a challenge, but the determination and love for music kept me going,” he says.
ThroughGroovingTime
Starting his career in 1999, DJ Thomas has forged a strong reputation for himself in Bahrain by playing vibrant music and engaging his audiences. He spoke to Kristian Harrison about his connection to the Kingdom and his exciting journey to date.
house music, but I’ve learned to be flexible with genres,” he says. “It’s all about catching the pulse of the crowd and keeping the dance floor alive. Mostly, I perform live sets, relying on instinct to gauge the mood of the audience.”
Having visited Bahrain during his childhood, he always had a special connection with the island. “My family lived here, and I would visit every year during the holidays,” he shares. In 2006, he moved to Bahrain permanently and landed his first residency at Z-Club in Pars Hotel, Juffair. “I’ve also played at Brazil Lounge in Adliya and Cocoon Lounge, creating some unforgettable memories,” he adds.
Reflecting on Bahrain’s music scene, Thomas notes how it has evolved over the years. “When I started DJing here, there were fewer DJs and venues. Now, the scene has grown immensely, offering people a variety of options for nightlife. But with this growth comes more competition,” he observes. “I constantly update myself musically to stay ahead and ensure the quality of my sets doesn’t drop,” he says.
Thomas is currently a regular at Bollywood Beats Club in Juffair Grand Hotel, where he takes to the decks on Thursday or Friday nights. He also takes on corporate and private gigs at various venues. “Personally, I love
When asked about memorable gigs, Thomas highlights several standout events. “The Cellar 59 event at the Art Hotel & Resort hosted by Cure Nightlife’s CEO, Mo Al Ekrawi, was incredible,” he recalls. Another highlight was a DJ competition at the Hilton Bahrain hosted by Ahmed Al Rayash, Vibes Events CEO. “It was great to connect with other DJs in the scene and create amazing memories,” he adds.
Looking ahead, Thomas plans to continue DJing in Bahrain and eventually venture into music production. “DJing has brought me so much happiness, and I want to keep doing it with the same passion,” he says. “As for a long-term dream, Goa has always been my favourite destination. Someday, I hope to chill and live there.”
Staying inspired in a dynamic industry requires constant evolution. “I always keep an open mind to learning new techniques and adapting to trends. If you don’t update yourself musically and technically, you’ll be left behind. Be fast or be last is the name of the game!” he says.

Sheraton Grand Opening
FLAVOUR, SPICE AND EVERYTHING NICE
ADDA Café is a vibrant addition to Bahrain’s vegetarian dining venues. Recently opened at Seef Square, the laidback café charms diners daily. We looked forward to trying a selection of its unique and classic menu items.
We begin with a classic: the Vada Pav. The delicious potato filling is paired with spicy garlic chutney that adds a satisfying punch. The freshly baked pav is moist and tender, balancing the boldness of the Vada and chutney. It’s street food at its finest.
For a comforting sip, the Ginger Tea at Café ADDA is an absolute winner. Smooth, milky and infused with fresh ginger; it’s the perfect winter drink.
If you’ve craved a grilled cheese sandwich with spice, try the one at Café ADDA. The perfectly toasted, crispy bread is loaded with potatoes, onions and capsicum, tossed in masala sauce, and drenched in gooey cheese – making each bite a satisfying, savoury experience.
The Pesto Bruschetta is an Italian dish with a desi twist. Pesto, juicy tomatoes, olives, fresh coriander and cheese create a dish that blends Italian flavours with Indian spices. We also enjoyed the spicy fries, coated in zesty peri peri seasoning. Comfort food with a kick. Their momos are a must-try for anyone who loves bold flavours. Succulent veggies are wrapped in soft dough and steamed to perfection, with just the right amount of spice, before being tossed in Mongolian sauce. Next, the larger-than-life onion pakoras were a showstopper. Fried to crispy perfection, they had a crunchy exterior and soft, pillow-like interior. A satisfying crunch followed by spiced onion goodness. This was followed by the mouth-watering Chilli Garlic Noodles, a perfect balance of spice and savoury goodness.
If you’re a vegetarian looking for a good burger, the Tandoori Paneer Burger offers a succulent paneer patty grilled to perfection and topped with spicy tandoori mayo. This dish is a delicious twist on the American burger, with Indian spices taking centre stage.
At ADDA Café, every dish feels like an invitation to explore a fusion of flavours. From vibrant Indian street food classics to creative twists on international favourites, this vegetarian restaurant has something for everyone. Here’s what Shannan Vaz has to say about its standout dishes.
To refresh our palates, we sipped on two standout drinks: the Passionfruit Mojito and Masala Coke. The Passionfruit Mojito combines the sweetness of passionfruit with the refreshing zing of mint and lime. For those feeling adventurous, the Masala Coke delivers a bold, spicy twist on classic cola.
From street food staples to innovative fusions, every dish at Café ADDA is crafted to delight the senses. Whether you’re in the mood for a comforting snack, a refreshing drink or a hearty meal, this café will leave you coming back for more.

McLaren’s Resurgence
A NEW ERA OF F1 DOMINANCE
McLaren has made a triumphant return to the pinnacle of Formula 1 throughout 2024. Ahmed Alsayed explores this resurgence while highlighting Bahrain’s strategic support, through investments and visionary leadership from HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa which set the stage for McLaren’s continued success in the sport.
McLaren, a name synonymous with Formula 1 excellence, delivered a historic season in 2024, highlighted by its first Constructors’ Championship victory since 1998. Lando Norris’s commanding win at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix sealed the triumph, capping off a season that included victories in Azerbaijan, Singapore, Miami, Hungary and the Netherlands. This unprecedented success not only reaffirmed McLaren’s dominance on the track but also marked the dawn of a new era for the team.
The 2024 season showcased the fruits of McLaren’s relentless pursuit of innovation and strategic renewal. Spearheaded by Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, Mumtalakat, McLaren’s resurgence was fueled by an unwavering commitment to long-term success. The fund’s substantial investments provided the team with cutting-edge resources and expertise, enabling it to regain its competitive edge. McLaren’s exceptional drivers, including Norris and Oscar Piastri, complemented this support with stellar performances throughout the season.
At the heart of this successful transformation is the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. His steadfast dedication to motorsport excellence and his visionary leadership have established
Bahrain as a global hub for motorsport. Under HRH Prince Salman’s guidance, Bahrain has not only become a strategic partner for McLaren but has also fostered a thriving ecosystem for motorsport and technological innovation. The sustained support for McLaren has played a pivotal role in the team’s resurgence and will continue to drive its future successes.
Bahrain’s influence extends beyond strategic partnerships, creating synergies between technology and sport. This vision was further enhanced in 2024 through a landmark collaboration between Mumtalakat and CYVN Holdings LLC, a mobility operator based in Abu Dhabi. The agreement granted McLaren access to advanced technology and design capabilities, accelerating its engineering development. This alliance underscored McLaren’s focus on integrating innovation into its DNA, reinforcing its position as a leader in motorsport.
McLaren’s journey to reclaim the Constructors’ Championship required overcoming challenges, including fierce competition from other top-tier teams. The season was punctuated by thrilling races and resilient teamwork, showcasing McLaren’s ability to excel under pressure. The results not only reestablished McLaren’s legacy but also set the stage for sustained excellence.
As McLaren moves forward, its 2024 success stands as a testament to the synergy between its drivers, innovative spirit, and Bahrain’s visionary leadership. With Bahrain’s continued strategic support and McLaren’s unyielding drive, the future promises even greater milestones for one of Formula 1’s most iconic teams.

AsFINANCIAL WELLBEING BEGIN WITH KNOWLEDGE
Over the past few months, Business Consultant Pria Masson has written about how money impacts our lives in unique ways. Given that money is the lifeblood of the way we manage life, working on our relationship with money, is key to managing it more effectively. Pria shares her thoughts.
2025 is upon us, I would like you to begin the new year from a place of knowledge and control when it comes to money. Together, let’s begin to figure out your money matters.
If you are expecting the first step to be figuring out how much money you have, you are in for a surprise. In fact, this month, let’s ignore the actual amount of money and focus instead on your experience with money. Let’s go back to the beginning and ask yourself this: how did you experience life as a child in relation to money?
Your answer will be different, of course, and could range from “We didn’t discuss money, but I knew we had enough,” or “We didn’t discuss money, but I knew we were struggling.” to “We had plenty, I never thought about money.” The key to finding your answer is in remembering the conversations related to money even indirectly. Those overheard discussions on how one would make ends meet, how often words like “too expensive”
or “greedy” or “wasteful” came up. This basic interaction about money, or the idea of it, formed the foundation of how you view money.
Next, think about how you experienced money related activities. Recall what happened if you asked for something? Were you allowed to ask for things? Were you nurtured or shamed? This is likely what frames whether you fear money, see it as a necessary evil or simply deny its existence.
In most cases, it’s very likely that no one discussed or explained money and its dynamics to you, such as it being a means of exchange and its value coming from what it’s exchanged for. Given this, if you value money more than the other person, agreeing on the price of something can be tricky. Let’s use an example. You fear money, see it as a necessary evil and something to be held on to. If you want to buy a pair of shoes, you expect the shoes to be worth its price and valuable enough for you to part with money which is precious to you. You may still buy
the shoes, but will derive pleasure from the purchase if it’s on sale and you believe they are worth the sacrifice.
If you aren’t the person earning and need someone else, with their own relationship with money, to buy you things, this may get complicated. This is why having a bit of money, just for you, no questions asked, eases out so much personal discord. And this, is why the ability to manage your own money – earning it, using it, and growing it, all without animosity or negativity is the ultimate life skill. Begin 2025 by acknowledging its need and taking steps to learn this skill.

Linkin Park From Zero
Verdict:
A successful return after tragedy.
What’s the story?
Seven years after the death of the inimitable Chester Bennington, the surviving members of Linkin Park reunited and introduced new vocalist Emily Armstrong. Reactions were immediate, and opposing views – tied to the perception of what Linkin Park is as a band and how much Bennington›s heart and soul played into that – cast a shadow on this new project, the aptly titled ‘reboot’ From Zero.
Worth a listen?
The revamped lineup’s first effort together is without a doubt a well-executed, aggressively hungry and potent sonic statement from a group of survivors intent on keeping their vision alive. The melodic guitar attack and familiar chord progressions, the futuristic production, turntable acrobatics and the catchy rhythms all provide a high-octane backbone that’s instantly familiar to anyone who has ever heard even a single Linkin Park song. Enter formidable singer Armstrong. The excellent lead single The Emptiness Machine is an exciting unveiling, a by-the-numbers LP assault that justifies her hiring with those throat-shredding howls. Across these near-dozen tracks, her vocal attack is a thing to behold, clean vocals cutting with a scalpel’s precision and screams that can crack the sky and split the earth in a way that scratches a certain nostalgic itch. From Zero is a decent effort that contains all the band’s hallmarks, even if it’s not the exact same Linkin Park that is known and loved
Gwen Stefani Bouquet
The middle-of-the-road contemporary country of Gwen Stefani›s fifth album, Bouquet, is far removed from the electrifying pop of her earlier solo work, let alone the energy and attitude she brought to No Doubt. Based around a loose, running theme of flower metaphors and references, Bouquet is a collection of toned-down, affable tunes with glints of country twang embroidered into their hyperclean production. As basic, personality-free country-rock records go, Bouquet is perfectly serviceable. Coming from Stefani, however, the embrace of mediocrity feels especially glaring.
Kim Deal Nobody Loves You More
Deal wrote and recorded her debut solo album over the course of a pivotal decade during which she departed from Pixies, cared for – and then grieved – her parents. Not long after the album was finished, her dear friend and collaborator Steve Albini also died. Deal responds to all these changes by getting more overtly personal than ever before. On Summerland, she strums a ukulele gifted to her by Albini as she croons about vacations with her parents in the Florida Keys as starry-eyed strings swell behind her. That the album doesn›t settle into just one emotional or musical groove is the perfect tribute to her legacy of always finding new ways to express herself. Nobody Loves You More is some of her finest music yet, and while any of these songs would›ve been a standout with one of her other projects, it›s all the sweeter that they›re hers alone.
Kendrick Lamar GNX
GNX›s first order is to yank rap back to its regional roots: the album›s sound is as L.A. as California Love. This album is an exceptional representation of the modern west coast music scene. It is a nostalgic, yet ahead of its time, mosaic of all of the creative, varying influences and styles from classic and new west coast rap & hip hop, along with synths and vocals of new and old neo-soul and R&B. It’s soulful, then it’s serious, then it’s goofy – yet it’s not overwhelming.

A Legacy of Art & Philanthropy
Ms. Kanoo’s love affair with the arts began at 17, when a Monet painting left an indelible mark on her soul. This formative moment propelled her to pursue art courses in France, where she developed her unique style, unfettered by convention. “I realised I didn’t like to confine myself to one style of art,” she explains. “I enjoyed fluctuating between modern, classic, oil and acrylic. My art constantly evolves through different periods of my life.”
Her passion eventually culminated in the establishment of the Safia Ali Kanoo Art Hub, a vibrant cultural space in Tubli. “I wanted to give back to the community by building a hub where artists can congregate and grow,” she says. Designed to foster creativity and collaboration, the hub offers educational classes, hosts exhibitions and provides a platform for Bahraini artists to showcase their work. “Seeing these artists thrive and connect has been deeply fulfilling,” she adds, reflecting on the waiting list of eager participants vying for a spot at the next exhibition.
In a celebration of her extraordinary talent and unwavering generosity, Safia Ali Kanoo was honoured with the prestigious 2024 Woman of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award. This accolade recognises her remarkable contributions to philanthropy and the arts, which she graciously highlights in this exclusive interview with Woman This Month.
Despite her devotion to art, Ms. Kanoo’s philanthropic efforts have always taken precedence. For over two decades, she postponed her dream of opening the art hub to prioritise charitable initiatives. Her acts of kindness range from supporting cancer clinics and building homes for the elderly to funding mosques. “Every time I wanted to focus on my art centre, another cause would arise,” she recalls. “How could I say no to people in need?”
Among her most cherished projects is a cancer centre for children, where she provides a nurturing environment designed to inspire optimism and hope. “I’ve seen these children grow up and flourish despite the odds. That’s the true reward,” she says. Ms. Kanoo’s philanthropic reach extends far beyond Bahrain. Her travels to Paris, Monte Carlo and Marbella inspire her artistic creations, which often reflect diverse cultural influences. Her personal collection, including works by Degas and Monet, underscores a deeper appreciation for art.
Summers spent in her homes abroad provide the perfect backdrop for reflection and inspiration, yet she never loses sight of her commitment to her community. Her ability to balance creativity, compassion and community service sets her apart as a true role model. When asked what makes her happy, she simply muses: “It’s seeing others smile because of something I’ve done. That’s true happiness.”
The Safia Ali Kanoo Art Hub welcomes not just local talent but also international artists, proving that art knows no boundaries. Her tireless dedication to the arts and philanthropy continues to inspire and uplift, embodying a legacy of generosity and passion.
To aspiring artists and changemakers, Ms. Kanoo offers this advice: “Stay true to your passion and always find a way to give back. The impact you make will be your greatest masterpiece.”

EMPOWERING WOMEN IN BUSINESS
On May 23, the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society (BBS) will mark 25 years of shaping the landscape of female entrepreneurship in Bahrain. Ahead of the society’s Global Women Economic Forum and Exhibition (GWEFE), Farah Baig sat down with BBS President and Cofounder, Ahlam Janahi. She shared some insight into its achievements and future goals while shining a light on the highly-anticipated forum.
Can you give our readers some insight into your journey as BBS President?
Taking on the role of President of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society has been an incredibly transformative experience. When I first became involved with BBS, I was inspired by its mission to support women’s aspirations. Taking on the responsibility of leading the organisation offered me an opportunity to make a tangible impact on the business landscape in Bahrain.
My immediate focus was to build a clear vision for the future of BBS and ensure that it would not only be a platform for women to network but also a powerhouse for change, advocacy and opportunity.
What were some of your key priorities?
Cultivating strong partnerships with public and private sectors has been essential. By collaborating with government bodies, businesses and other organisations, we’ve been able to create synergies that elevate the role of women in business across Bahrain. In fact, BBS has signed over 70 MoUs with more to be signed at the Global Women Economic Forum and Exhibition. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing women’s access to leadership roles and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Advocating for policy change has been a cornerstone of my leadership. We’ve actively worked with local authorities to raise awareness about the importance of gender parity in the workplace.
What do you consider to be some of the society’s key achievements over the last 25 years?
BBS has achieved several significant milestones including the increased representation of women in business leadership, establishment of a thriving network for businesswomen, successful international collaboration and recognition, policy influence and advocacy and the strengthening of Bahrain’s economic development by fostering the growth of women-led businesses.
Furthermore, the society has been instrumental in empowering women in new industries. BBS has been at the forefront of encouraging Bahraini women to participate in emerging industries, such as technology, finance and innovation. By offering specialised programmes, such as in STEM fields, BBS has increased the participation of women in traditionally male-dominated sectors.
How has your role evolved over the years?
It has transformed from a more traditional leadership position to one that is dynamic, multifaceted and integrated into both, local and regional business ecosystems. As part of this change, we now have a stronger focus on digital transformation and innovation while strengthening regional and international networks.
My role has also evolved in the context of movements toward diversity and inclusion. Today, we are not just talking about gender equality but also creating opportunities for women from diverse backgrounds, including women with disabilities, women in rural areas and those from different socioeconomic backgrounds.
What are some of the recent initiatives introduced by BBS to foster a more inclusive business environment?
We have the Women in Leadership Programme which empowers women with the skills, confidence and networking opportunities to advance into leadership roles. The Bahraini Women in Technology Initiative supports the growing demand for women in the tech sector. Meanwhile the Young Entrepreneurs Programme supports young aspiring entrepreneurs through a series of workshops and incubator programmes – an essential initiative at BBS as it enables us to develop the next generation of businesswomen.
Furthermore, we work closely with financial institutions for funding programmes, facilitates international networking and collaboration and has several social responsibility and sustainability initiatives.
What are some of the society’s key goals moving forward?
Our goals are centred around strengthening our impact, expanding opportunities and ensuring that we continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of businesswomen in Bahrain, the region and beyond. To highlight our long-term goals, we aim to establish a global platform for Bahraini women, create a sustainable mentorship and leadership pipeline and strengthen the economic contribution of women in Bahrain.
BBS will soon organise the Global Women Economic Forum and Exhibition (GWEFE). What can attendees expect?
The Global Women Economic Forum and Exhibition (GWEFE) will bring together women leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals and experts from around the world to discuss key issues affecting women in the global economy and celebrate their achievements. attendees can expect inspirational talks and keynote speeches, panel discussions and workshops, networking opportunities and exhibitions.
The forum will feature prominent keynote speakers, including successful entrepreneurs, thought leaders and advocates for gender equality. These speakers will share insights on topics like leadership, innovation, economic empowerment, gender parity and social impact.
The forum provides an excellent platform for networking with fellow entrepreneurs, professionals and investors. Attendees can establish valuable business connections, form collaborations and even identify potential investors for their ventures.
Can you highlight some of the panellists and speakers at this year’s event?
There are around 50 local, regional and international speakers who will be at this year’s event. These speakers include
Deputy to the Director General and the Managing Director of the Directorate of Global Partnerships and External Relations at UNIDO, Fatou Haidara, Director General of Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (IsFD), Dr Hiba Ahmed, Head of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Bahrain (UNIDO-ITPO), Dr. Hashim Hussein and Cécilia Attias who is the Senior VP of Public Affairs at Richard Attias & Associates, Founder & President of Cecilia Attias Foundation for Women and Former First Lady of France.
What would be your advice to women seeking advancement in their career or the business world?
Build confidence, develop key skills, foster relationships and embrace resilience. The journey to success is unique for every individual, but there are some common principles that can help women thrive in the professional world. Take ownership of your career, continue to learn and develop and build strong relationships with mentors, peers and allies. Seek leadership opportunities, embrace risk and make sure to prioritise selfcare along the way.
Success in the business world is not just about reaching the top—it’s about the journey, the growth and the impact you make as you move forward.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would like to congratulate HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on the 25th anniversary of his accession to the throne and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. I would like to thank the President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, our Honorary President, Shaikha Thajba Bint Salman Al Khalifa and all the concerned ministries, organisations, media and sponsors for their unwavering support over the last 25 years.
As the president of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society (BBS), I would like to emphasise our continued commitment to empowering women in business and fostering an environment that supports both personal and professional growth
Over the years, we have seen remarkable progress, but there is still much more to do. The road ahead is filled with exciting opportunities and I’m committed to ensuring that the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society remains a driving force in shaping a more inclusive and prosperous business landscape for women in Bahrain and beyond.

JELENA’S MELODIC MAGIC
As one of the Kingdom’s finest pianists, Jelena Pavlovic is no stranger to performing on the grand stage. In this exclusive interview with Woman This Month, she tells Kristian Harrison about her early start in music, her journey to Bahrain, and how she has contributed to the local music scene through her performances and teaching.
Jelena’s love for music started early, sparked by her mother’s visits to philharmonic concerts. “At the age of six, I was tested for musical ability and rhythm, which led to my acceptance into music school with a major in piano,” she recalls. Over 10 years, she studied piano alongside subjects such as harmony, solfeggio, accompaniment and composition. “I competed in regional and national competitions, placing second twice in Serbia,” she adds. Her hard work culminated in a diploma as a pianist and accompanist.
Although Jelena pursued other studies, graduating in History from University College London and building a career in translation, HR and project management, her passion for music never waned. “When my family moved to the Middle East, first to Saudi Arabia and then Bahrain, I reignited my music career by teaching at schools and privately,” she explains. Her inspirations include classical
Marta Argerich, Ivo Pogorelić and Rita Kinka.
Jelena moved from Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, to Bahrain in 2013 with her husband’s job and quickly integrated into the island’s music community. “Bahrain’s vibrant music scene brings together talents from around the world and fosters local artistry,” she says. She plays a dual role, both as a performer at events like weddings and corporate gatherings and as an educator cultivating the next generation of musicians. “I’ve worked as a vocal coach and music teacher at the British School of Bahrain, expanding my private teaching while continuing to perform.”
Jelena’s versatility as a performer allows her to adapt to various settings. “I enjoy intimate celebrations such as weddings as much as high-profile VIP events like car reveals or themed evenings at restaurants,” she says.
Her repertoire spans genres, from classical to modern hits, including rock, pop and dance. “I often adapt popular songs for the piano, blending styles to suit the occasion,” she explains.
Several career highlights stand out for Jelena. “Performing for high-level Bahraini officials after a Formula 1 event, a Genesis car reveal at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain, and most recently, the Woman of the Year Awards 2024 were unforgettable experiences,” she shares. Organising student recitals also holds a special place in her heart.
Looking ahead, Jelena hopes to expand her teaching and performance reach within Bahrain and across the region. “I’d love to perform in Abu Dhabi and Dubai while continuing to inspire young musicians. My dream is to open a music institute one day,” she says.
UNWIND in LUXURY
Woman This Month’s Brand Ambassador, Esky Dubois, shares her thoughts on the Swedish massage experience at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa.
December, a month of festivities, always holds a special place in my heart, especially as a long-time resident of Bahrain. While I usually spend this time treating my loved ones, this year, I had the pleasure of experiencing a blissful Swedish massage at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa alongside my colleague Nikki and model Franchisca.
Nestled in the heart of Bahrain, the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa is a haven of tranquillity. Stepping into the serene spa, we were immediately enveloped in a calming atmosphere. Soft music played gently in the background, while the air was filled with the soothing aroma of essential oils. The warm welcome from the attentive staff, including the spa manager, immediately put us at ease.
Guided into a softly lit treatment room, I was introduced to my skilled therapist. She patiently enquired about my preferences and any areas of concern, ensuring a personalised experience. The massage itself was a symphony of relaxation, employing traditional Swedish techniques to alleviate muscle tension, improve circulation and promote overall well-being.
Nikki shared her experience: “My therapist’s gentle yet firm strokes effectively released the knots and tension in my muscles. The combination of kneading, long gliding strokes, and circular motions provided immense relief, particularly in my shoulders and back, areas prone to stress accumulation.”
Franchisca highlighted the exquisite aromatic oil sourced from Sri Lanka: “It left my skin feeling incredibly smooth, deeply hydrated and beautifully nourished. My therapist recommended leaving it on for enhanced moisturising benefits, particularly during the dry winter months, ensuring my skin remained soft and supple long after the session.”
What truly stood out was the personalised approach. Throughout the session, my therapist consistently checked in to ensure the pressure was perfectly suited to my comfort level.
As the session concluded, I was invited to join the ladies and enjoy a warm cup of tea in the spa’s tranquil lounge. With a delightful selection of teas available, it was the perfect opportunity to relax and savour the physical and mental rejuvenation I felt while sipping my blueberry tea.
The spa operates daily from 10am to 11pm, making it convenient to schedule your appointment amidst a busy schedule. The Swedish massage at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa is more than just a treatment; it’s an indulgent experience that every woman deserves. Whether you’re seeking relief from stress or simply indulging in a pampering session, this luxurious retreat is the perfect sanctuary.

Please Let them Play with Their Food!
Meal time can be tough with kids, if it’s unfamiliar to them. Ouiam El Hassani shares her tips on getting your child to try new food.
We’ve all been there: You’ve just spent a good 30 minutes creating a meal you think your kiddo will love and devour. But when you set it on the table, your child turns up their nose, declaring they won’t eat it, have never liked it, and will definitely not be trying it tonight. The dinner table soon devolves into a power struggle, and you’re both left feeling upset and unheard. As it turns out, begging your child to “just try one bite” is doing more harm than good. Instead, practice taking the pressure off. Recent research shows that letting your kid play with their food – with zero pressure to actually eat it – can help them safely explore new tastes and textures in an anxiety-free environment. Kids learn through play, and bringing that concept to mealtime can be a gamechanger for many kids, but especially for kids with sensory challenges or aversions to certain food or textures.
Eating is a lot of hard work, so it is easy to see how a playful approach can facilitate
stress-free habits. To swallow, we use 26 muscles and six cranial nerves, along with all five senses and body awareness – it’s an information super-highway.
Bringing play into the picture at snack time and mealtime can help kids get familiar with foods – especially new foods. Letting kids play with food can also decrease anxiety and remove the sense of pressure to eat that children may feel because it empowers their curiosity. Food is less surprising when we play with it first.
So how can you ensure that your kid won’t starve and that you’re not spending minutes you don’t have to make a second meal? Fill their plates with some food your child recognises and already enjoys, plus the addition of just one or two new foods to explore. Then, encourage them to get their hands dirty. Letting kids touch and handle what’s on their plate with no expectation to actually taste it can take the pressure off the situation for all involved.
To learn about food, you need to get messy. That might mean allowing kids the freedom to stack, roll, squash or mash what’s on their plate, all to just get comfortable with the idea of a new food and its texture, scent, and colour. This is especially helpful when introducing foods they haven’t seen before. This is the key when allowing kids the space and time to explore.
One more thing: Try not to wipe that cute chin or clean those messy hands until exploratory time is over.
While yes, table manners are a very valuable skill, that can come in due course. In the meantime, opening your kid up to the wide world of food and all the sensory experiences that come with it is incredibly important, especially when they’re young.
As parents, we need to make sure a child eats correctly through integrating development, nutrition and environmental cues. However, kids should have agency in this area, too.
There’s a clear demarcation between the child’s role and the parent’s role when it comes to feeding and eating. Respecting these natural boundaries can make mealtimes easier and more joyous for all involved. Here is a rundown of how the roles can or should be divided: The parent or caregiver decides what, when and where to eat.
The child decides whether and how much to eat.
Adopting this approach is a helpful reminder that children need to be able to determine for themselves whether they want to eat in the first place – and how much of a food they want to eat.
Remember, every child is different. What works for one child may not work for another. The most important thing is to create a positive and supportive eating environment. By focusing on the joy of eating and the social aspects of mealtime, you can help your child develop healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime.

1. Prepare the Butternut Squash by peeling, seeding and dicing it into small cubes. This will ensure even cooking and a smooth texture for your soup.
2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for three to four minutes until translucent. Stir in the diced carrots and cook for another five minutes, letting the vegetables soften. Add the minced garlic and cook for a minute until fragrant.
3. Sprinkle the cinnamon, nutmeg, smoked paprika and ginger over the sautéed vegetables. Stir well to coat them with the
spices, allowing the flavours to bloom. Add the diced butternut squash to the pot and mix everything together.
4. Pour in the vegetable broth, ensuring that the squash and vegetables are fully submerged. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let the soup simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the squash and carrots are tender and can be easily pierced with a fork.
5. Once the vegetables are cooked, remove the pot from the heat. Using an immersion blender, carefully blend the soup until smooth and creamy. If you don’t have an immersion
blender, let the soup cool slightly and blend it in batches in a countertop blender.
6. Stir in the coconut milk (or heavy cream) to give the soup a velvety texture. Season with salt and pepper to taste, adjusting as needed.
7. Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with your choice of toppings, such as toasted pumpkin seeds, a drizzle of olive oil or coconut milk, or a side of crusty bread. The toppings add texture and elevate the presentation
8. Tuck into your delicious bowl of winter comfort!

What’s your secret to staying organised and managing your time effectively?
In my role, everything feels like it’s ASAP, but the key is recognising the top priority and tackling that first. From there, you work through the rest efficiently.
When you’re not at work, what’s your favourite way to unwind?
I love relaxing by the beach or discovering new restaurants with friends.
Ideal weekend: night out with friends or at home chilling?
A mix! Some weekends I love going out, and others I prefer a cosy night in.
