TEAMTALK
VIVA VIVACITY ‘Om Swastiastu...’ In this edition we wanted to showcase things that would grab the attention of the vivacious ladies out there – those travelers with lots of enthusiasm and energy. We made a list of what we thought were “a woman’s favorite things” and then scoured the island for places and activities that would fit the bill. What we’ve come up with are some really fun options for you to explore while in Bali! In ACTION & ATTRACTION we show you an activity that will push some of you out of your comfort zone. At High Flyers in Kuta, muster up the courage to jump off of the platform and you’ll be rewarded with the sheer rush of swinging on a flying trapeze. It’s a great activity to do with a group of girlfriends or with your family. It’s no secret that ladies love chocolate, so in our INVITE & INDULGE section we’re giving you a peek into the wonderful Chocolate Indulgence treatment at Theta Spa. Now is your chance to be absolutely covered in rich, luscious chocolate and feel the benefits of it on your skin! We’re also aware that more and more women are becoming conscious of what they eat and want to consume only fresh and healthy ingredients. In DINE & DELIGHTS we introduce you to Taco Casa and Monsieur Spoon, a Mexican restaurant and a French patisserie that both incorporate local ingredients into their delicious handmade delights. Lastly, our FOTOFOLIO features inspiring images of young girls and women who tackle Indonesia’s worldclass waves. Have faith in yourself, as they do, and instead of fearing the elements, surprise yourself with what you can physically accomplish. We’re excited by this edition and we hope you are too! We hope it motivates you to do amazing things during your limited time in Bali. There really isn’t an excuse not to live it up, so be safe and have fun! ‘Om Shanti Shanti Shanti Om…’ The Team

was refreshing and had just the right amount of lemon tartness. As for the chocolate ganache and strawberry tartlets, you also can’t go wrong with these, as all three flavors boast deliciously crispy crusts. Monsieur Spoon’s delicate macaroons come in an assortment of flavors, from café latte to lemon to salted caramel. We sampled the pistachio, passion fruit-chocolate and rose, which were all excellent. We loved the fact that their macaroons are made with only natural colors and flavors. And if you’ve never tasted a millefeuille, we recommend you do so straight away. Perfectly flaky layers of caramelized puff pastry are combined with generous amounts of cream – it’s a multilayered dream come true! Choose from vanilla, pistachio or hazelnut. The list of sweet treats goes on and on. For example, there’s the ginger lava cake for a decadent chocolate experience and the mango lime mousse for a light and fresh option. Just stopping in for a snack on the go? We recommend the buttery raisin swirl viennoiserie. Another hot selling item is Monsieur Spoon’s croissants. When we visited, they had just sold their 50,000th croissant. It seems that the hotels and villas in Bali just can’t get enough. This is truly remarkable, considering they only started offering their croissants to businesses in December 2012. Monsieur Spoon’s light and flaky croissants are made with authentic French butter from Normandy, France.

NEW OFFERINGS Speaking of butter, Rafi shared the news with us that Monsieur Spoon will be coming out with its very own brand of butter, available for purchase! Aside from their plain butter you can also choose Red (made with Balinese red pepper), Dark (with long pepper from the Bali forests) and Green (lime & Fleur de Sel). As for fresh bread to go with your homemade butter, traditional baguettes aren’t the only option available. There are also tourtes (round loaves of bread, available in two sizes), paillasse (special sourdough bread with a hard crust), ciabatta, focaccia and bagels, among others. advantage of all this great bread than

maximizing its benefits is in a spa treatment – that is, you’re literally covered in the stuff.

BREAKFAST IN BED The bright and breezy dining area located just off the main lobby called the Alcove is a great option for breakfast, but if you can’t be bothered to drag yourself out of bed, at U Paasha all you have to do is reach for the phone and order in-room breakfast. Imagine how amazing this option would feel after a late night out on the town. You also don’t have to have your breakfast at a predetermined time. As U Paasha puts it, you can have your breakfast “wherever and whenever you choose.” We took advantage of this, waking up early but purposely dawdling. After watching some TV
and taking our time getting dressed, it was already after 10 a.m. by the time we decided to call for breakfast. As promised, the operator cheerfully took our orders. I was asked to choose between American Breakfast and Chinese Breakfast and to my surprise my American breakfast was plentiful and delicious, the highlights being the buttery croissants and the piping hot omelet and sausages.

Living on an island blessed with world-famous breaks, who better to showcase than the wave riders themselves? With the help of photographer Tim Hain and our friends at Surfer Girl and Roxy, we’ve compiled images of women and young girls who have the courage to tackle Indonesia’s waves and love every second of it! So have faith in yourself, just like these ladies do, and go out there and do something amazing. 56

Call an ambulance by dialing 118, but it is a lot more practical and quicker to hire a taxi. Most hotels have on-call doctors on standby. For “Bali Belly”, Lomotil and Imodium eliminate symptoms, but not gastro-related infections. A fever along with symptoms requires doctor-prescribed antibiotics. Drink as much liquid as possible. Isotonic drinks under various brand names are widely available and are known to replenish body hydration and replace fluids. For discomfort, diarrhea and cramping, drink strong, hot tea; avoid fruits and spicy foods. Some day-biting mosquitoes carry dengue fever, but this is not a problem in tourist areas. Bali is non-malarial and prophylaxis is not required. Mosquito bites, cuts or abrasions easily become infected in the tropics. Treat them immediately. Drink only bottled or boiled water. Peel fruit before eating; avoid raw vegetables except at reputable restaurants. Ice in restaurants is safe. Protect yourself from the intense equatorial sun. Use high SPF sunblock and a hat. AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases are increasing in Indonesia. Local sex workers have multiple partners from around the world. They are not checked for sexually transmitted diseases. Act responsibly and use condoms, available over the counter at pharmacies.
