EAGLES NEST WELL INTO NEW HOME THANKS TO FLYING DOUBLE FROM CRAIG MITCHELL

Nick Hall’s diving header to give Arnold all 3 points Arnold Town 3 Thackley 2 Arnold began their tenure at Eagle Valley with a hard earned victory. Playing in front of their biggest home league crowd since December 2000 the Eagles had a dream start. Craig Mitchell had the honour of scoring the first goal on the ground as his low drive slipped through the fingers of Ayres to give his side a 15th minute lead. Mitchell should have doubled his tally five minutes later, but shot wide with the goal at his mercy. Brewster was felled by Aston in the area and Mitchell fired the spot kick high to the keepers left to double the advantage after 36 minutes. With the Eagles in control the points appeared to be secure however the visitors had other ideas. Coy crossed into the area and Clarke diverted the ball into his own net after 39 minutes. The visitors were level two minutes later as Brissett fired home from 15 yards out. The home side regained the lead 10 minutes into the second period as the recalled Brewster crossed from the right and Hall planted his diving header past the grasp of Ayres. Mitchell went close to securing a hat trick and the visitors saw a cross roll along the cross bar in the latter stages of the game. The Eagles held on to send the majority of the 238 crowd home happy following a historic day for the club. welcomed back Marquin Smith after a short spell at Alfreton Town. Carlton making a bright start to the game took the lead on 16 minutes after Marquin Smith was fouled on the edge of the area, Steve Chaplin glanced a header into the corner of the net after a Dean Gent free kick. Kidsgrove keeper Steve Intihar made a double save from Darry Thomas and then Marquin Smith to keep the score at 1-0. Kidsgrove almost equalised but were kept at bay by in form Carlton keeper Ali Barcherini who made a great punch from Adam Beesley. Carlton almost increased their lead on the stroke of half time when from a Martin Ball corner Grant Brindleys header was scrambled away by the Kidsgrove defence. Carlton continued to press in the second half, a Thomas shot rebounded off of Intihar but was cleared by Tom Shwarz. Carlton then extended their lead on 56 minutes when a Gent corner was firmly headed home by skipper Mike Martin. Kidsgrove pulled a goal back on 72 minutes when substitute Tim Sanders scored directly from a free kick. Carlton appeared to weather the storm with Thomas again going close. But in the last 5 minutes a tired looking Carlton defence were saved by keeper Barcherini who made three spectacular saves to ensure Carlton gained their first win since November. To play in our new 5-a-side league
It's half time. It has been a disaster. Weeks of expectancy have passed, building to a crescendo of absent daydreams and nauseating anticipation. At the moment it all seems to have been a waste of time. I comment that a replay seems as appealing as a final itself. The 45 minutes looming before us has an empty quality and the mood is one of thorough despondency. As a football fan this is very nearly the lowest point imaginable. But the best is yet to come. Once again, in a style that has barely seemed possible at points over the last ten years, Forest emerged to salvage pride and send spirits through the stratosphere. And the 64th minute celebrations of Robert Earnshaw's equaliser will not be forgotten for a very long time. Two clashes with Derby this season have knocked years off my life, and it is a daunting but impelling thought that we are only half way there. For long periods tonight the fact that this was an FA Cup tie was unreservedly forgotten and irrelevant. But what it does mean is that somebody must come out on top next time. It is mouth-watering. We will certainly have to raise our game next time around. For half of tonight's match we were diabolical. Defensively we

Attendance: 4,447 Ian McParland handed a home debut to goalkeeper Josh Lillis who joined on loan from Scunthorpe earlier in the week, meanwhile Delroy Facey shook off a calf problem to return to the starting line-up and Michael Johnson returned to the team after being rested in midweek with Sean Canham and Stephen Hunt reverting to the bench. Notts kicked off at Meadow Lane attacking the Haydn Green Family Stand, and within thirty seconds the Magpies almost took the lead. Jamie Forrester, who scored against the Valiants in October at Vale Park, let fly from twentyfive with a blistering effort that crashed off the underside of the bar with Anyon beaten all ends up. Fortunately for the visitors, the loose ball fell to a Vale defender and was hooked clear. Notts were confident and in control from the off and were always looking to bring their two wide players into the game - but from a corner on ten minutes the visitors had two chances to take the lead. First of all Owen was denied at the far post by the legs of Lillis at pointblank range, and then after a punch from the Notts goalkeeper fell to the feet of Brammer twelve yards out he volleyed just over the bar. From their second set-piece four minutes later the visitors were presented with another glorious chance to take the lead, but Stockley dragged his effort wide from six yards out when he was totally unmarked. Lillis was Notts' hero on the half hour by making
afforded them time and space beyond explanation, the midfield melted into obscurity, and the forwards chased shadows. Every cross and every corner threatened to induce heart attacks and Smith, regaled by full time, gave a masterclass in how not to command an area. In the second half it was a different story entirely. Having the confidence to attack a game can do wonderful things and Derby were left reeling by Tyson, McCleary and Anderson. Their combined pace, with Earnshaw fizzing between them, was simply too much. For 15 minutes in the second half we dominated but the storm seemed to have past when Earnshaw netted. I shall be forever grateful that it hadn't. Billy Davies' absence was a huge blow. But we survived it, and now the path to glory has surely been set? Only time will tell, of course. I'm rather hoping for a repeat of 2003's City Ground thrashing – I'm simply not sure that my heart can stand another game like this. Match ratings: Smith – 8.5 – a 10 for his second half heroics after a hesitant first half. Chambers – 6 – struggled at times, especially in failing to cut out crosses, but this was a tremendously hard-working display. Breckin – 7 – a solid performance overall, despite several moments of indecision – particularly later on when legs were dragging. Wilson – 7 – one of his better performances this season. A concrete performance. Lynch – 4 – a woeful display, his substitution at half time was vital. Anderson – 7.5 – his pace on the break was fundamental to our recovery. Perch – 8 – his midfield input consisted of little more than scrapping, but some of his last ditch tackles were exceptional. McGugan – 6.5 – a tale of two halves, as with everybody else. Cohen – 7.5 – extremely useful in the second half, linked superbly with Anderson. Earnshaw – 8 – what a moment, and what an excellent striker's goal. Tyson – 8 – looks three or four times the player that he did a few months ago. Keep it up, please. McCleary – 7 – important cross for the goal and his pace caused problems. Report by Alex Campbell
a fine save to deny Glover when one-on-one after Picken cheaply squandered possession in his own half. But on thirty-three minutes Vale were made to rue those misses as Myles Weston gave Notts the lead. Weston collected a loose ball inside the Vale half and immediately set off on a run towards goal, and after weaving his way past two defenders he kept his composure to drive the ball into the far corner. After notching the winner at Vale Park in October with his first-ever League goal, it seemed somewhat ironic that he should find the net in the corresponding fixture. Forrester came close to doubling Notts' advantage after more good play by the Magpies five minutes before the break but he dragged his effort wide from just outside the Vale area. Lillis was called into action four minutes into the second half to make a fine save from Louis Dodds' stinging drive from inside the box, but two minutes later he was powerless to stop the Vale drawing level as Richman burst clear to crash a powerful left-foot effort into the net from just inside Notts' area. There was no need to panic though, because within five minutes though Notts were back in front. A superb break saw Weston and Hamshaw combine well to pick out Forrester outside the box, and with time and space to line up his effort he curled a superb right-foot shot into the very top corner of Anyon's goal. Sublime and class, all mixed into one. It was a great goal, and he followed Weston in repeated the feat of scoring against Vale in both meetings between the two sides this season. On sixty-five minutes Forrester doubled his goals total by latching onto a poor back-header by a Vale defender and calmly guiding the ball past the helpless Anyon. He read the situation perfectly, and kept his composure to take his total to seven for the season. With Notts in full flow Forrester crashed a long-range effort just over two minutes later - clearly with a hat-trick in mind.

Forrester's strike partner Facey was keen to get in on the act as well, but he was denied by Anyon who turned his thunderous volley away. The crowd and confidence were buzzing with Notts retaining the ball and looking like scoring on every occasion they advanced towards Vale's goal. But Vale showed they weren't out of the game with just under fifteen minutes to go as Louis Dodds' headed home from a right-wing cross by Brammer. With ten minutes to go in this wide open game Notts were awarded a penalty for a foul on Facey by Stockley, presenting Forrester with the chance to notch his hattrick - and from twelve yards he made no mistake from twelve yards out. Forrester was then replaced to a standing ovation from the Notts faithful, with young Nat Wedderburn replacing the experienced campaigner and forming a fiveman midfield to see the game out - and Ben Fairclough followed in place of Hamshaw.

Division Three - No matches Division Four - Caythorpe keep in touch with the leaders following their 6-0 win over Toton Athletic. Real Bulwell move up a position after beating Clifton Dynamo Reserves 6-1. - Continued over page Report by Adrian Ford COMBINATION - OAKDALE PULL OFF A SHOCKER! The weather all but obliterated the league and cup games this week save from 3 games of which Oakdale was one. The division one strugglers were hosting Title challengers and second placed A1 Glazing and after the first five minutes Oakdale must have feared another defeat was on the cards when Liam Bates beat the offside trap, raced on and put the visitors a goal to the good. Oakdale's response was swift and clinical as they kept control of the ball working it wide left to Matt Smith who's Diagonal ball picked out Paul Machin, Machin then hit a first time half volley goal wards which the A1 keeper could only parry to where the great full Andrew Cordin was on hand to net for 1-1. Cordin then made it 2-1 to Oakdale from the spot in the 15th minute when Paul Rhodes was brought down on the edge of the area which the referee adjudged to be inside from which Cordin placed the ball in the top corner from the ensuing penalty. 2-1 soon became 3-1 and it was Cordin again, who was claiming his hat trick inside the first 20 minutes. A1 netted their second on the half hour to make it 3-2 following some good skill and fine slick passing which enabled Steven Kelly to score. By now the pitch was cutting up quite badly and it was A1 Glazing who where controlling the game but for some fine saves by stand in keeper Chris Millward the visitors would have surely levelled, but as it was, it was the home side who stretched their lead to 4-2 going into the break courtesy of a Mark Horesly low drive. Matthew Smith made it 5-2 just after the hour mark by chipping the keeper and then netted his sides 6th when he coolly rounded the keeper to slot home. Stuart Morley then compounded A1's misery when their defence decided to let a loose ball drift by for a goal kick but on the wet boggy pitch it did not carry, Steve Kemp gave chase and picked out Morley who rose to head his first of the season beating the out stretched keeper from 6 yards. The only other Division one game to survive the dour weather saw Bestwood Miners Welfare Reserves go down 5-2 at home to Beechdale Villa on what was more of a mud bath than a football pitch. Duane Haywood put the visitors a goal to the good when he cleverly chipped in at the near post in the 10th minute. Villa's lead was doubled some 10 minutes later when David White beat the offside trap, cut in from the left and slotted past the advancing keeper. Liam Dunston reduced the deficit for the home side when he latched on to a through ball by Justin Ortloff and coolly chipped over the advancing Jason Wheeldon in the visitor's goal for 2-1. Liam Duston proved forwards don't make good defenders, by trying to race back and clear off his line, he could only divert the ball into his own net to send them into the break 3-1 down. Two minutes after the restart Duane Haywood bagged his second and Villa's 4th with a cool finish from 18 yards before Troy Dunston came off the Bestwood bench

and instantly had a chance to score putting the ball goal wards with his first touch but before it crossed the line Ashley Williams raced in to touch it over for 4-2. Haywood then completed the scoring for Beechdale and his hat trick some 12 minutes from time. The only other game saw Greyfriars go second in the Premier Division by beating Bingham Town 7-0 thanks to Barry Keene, Mark Demec and James Needham who all scored a brace apiece with Keiron Edwards notching a single. NOTTS SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE - CLIFTON VILLA PUSH GREYS ALL THE WAY! The inclement may have carved deeply into the fixtures but fortunately the long awaited 'clash of the Titans' went ahead and proved well worth waiting for. Going into this encounter, Scots Grey and Clifton Villa boasted unblemished records in all competitions this term. Villa were the last team to lower Grey's colours by doing the double two seasons ago and matched the champions pass for pass and shot for shot. Not surprisingly the opening half proved watchful and the teams turned round scoreless. This didn't last for long as referee; Mick Eden awarded the hosts a penalty soon after the restart, which Alan Jefferies confidently converted. This advantage didn't last long, as Villa deservedly drew level through Fabian Smith and then shocked the 'mighty Greys' as Anton Bonnick fired the visitors ahead. Another Jefferies' penalty kick restored the balance but once again Villa restored their lead as Justin Jenkins fired in a spectacular, long range effort. Clifton looked on course for all three points but they conceded a late equaliser as Mark Green stabbed through from close in, following a corner with just two minutes of normal time remaining. Scots demonstrated why they are so difficult to beat, as with the watch showing two minutes of added time, Will Heath took on four defenders down the left before firing an astonishing winner under the advancing Villa 'keeper. What a game!! 4-3 and these two are to meet again in the Notts FA Sunday Senior Cup and NSFL KO Cup semi-finals and the second of these thrilling league encounters. Having struggled through December and early January, Rolls Royce Leisure Sunday appear to be returning to the form that saw them top the Division One table for the first three months of the season. To prove the point, Andy Stewart fired in two, complimented by an effort from Nicky Williamson as they overcame Old Colonial 3-0 to move into second spot. At the other end of the table BTSC moved up a place as they beat FC Clobber with goals from David Dennis, Josh Cranney and Nathaniel Shand. The only game that survived in Division Two proved a stalemate as Chris Baker-Beale had his strike for Portland Arms HH countered by Crusader's Mark Stratford. Report by John Wheat

Central Midlands Games played 24th January Buckingham Insurance Supreme Division leaders Harworth Colliery Institute recorded their fifth successive victory at Rolls Royce Leisure, retaining their five point lead at the top of the table. Struggling Rolls gave a good account of themselves, the visitors winning by the odd goal in five. Both teams conceded an own goal in the first half, but it was the visitors who led at the interval 2-1, with a Martin Gee goal. Dean Burrows extended Harworth's lead after the interval. Matthew Clowes pulled a goal back for Rolls with nine minutes remaining but Harworth held on to take the points. Second placed Calverton Miners Welfare were much too strong for second from bottom Harrowby United at Hollinwood Lane. 3-0 in front at half time, the home team went on to record an 8-1 victory. Both Chris Hall and Lewis Capewell both hit a brace, Barry Paine, Simon Gould, Mark Jago and Craig Boulton also on target for Graham Walker's team. Rob Mills notched a consolation goal for Harrowby. Third placed Sutton Town AFC where involved in the Second Round of the Quartet Catering League Cup, at Kinsley Boys and second half goals converted by Ben Greenhalgh and Gareth Davey took the Nottinghamshire into the next round. Fourth and Fifth placed clubs, Radcliffe Olympic and Forest Town should have played at Radcliffe, for the third time in a week but perhaps mercifully the match was postponed due to an unfit pitch. Another bad result for Newark Town, after an excellent run, the Collingham based club, suffered their second successive home reverse, going down to a 3-0 defeat against Clipstone Welfare. The visitors who led 1-0 at half time scored through Carl Russo (2) and Chris Hewitt. Pinxton showed no mercy to bottom club Kimberley Town at Wharf Road, the home team led 4-0 at half time, with goals by Wayne Cook, Mark Downing, Daniel Marriott and Joe Riley. The second half belonged to Pinxton's substitute Jay Cooper, who notched a hat trick, all his goals being scored in a ten minute period mid way through the half. A welcome point for Lincolnshire club Nettleham, they shared four goals at home against Southwell City. Lee Beesley scored both the home teams goals, one of them being an 85th minute equaliser. Danny Prance and Adam Meakin the Southwell marksmen. Westella and Willerby also have a five point lead at the top of the Black Dragon Premier Division, they where made to fight for the three points at Church Warsop Miners Welfare, they were dependent on a second half goal from Alan Laud, his goal being the only goal of the game. Second placed Parramore Sports, won by the same score at home against Newark Flowserve. Prior to the game the home team received the 'Team of the Month' award for November, from Paul Wilson of the Leagues Main Sponsors Abacus Lighting, supported by the league Chairman Frank Harwood. On a superb playing surface both teams played some good football, it was a fifteen minute penalty, converted by Paul Billard, that separated the two teams. A feature of the m a t c h w a s t h e performances of the officials, led by the Referee Neil Minton, who was outstanding. Louth Town, who are in third place again had a blank day, their game at Hutton Cranswick United was postponed. Kirkby Town moved up to fourth, they had a comfortable 4-0 win against Phoenix Sports and Social, the visitors certainly did not produce the form that defeated Supreme Division Calverton last week in the cup, so it was a painful journey home for the Sheffield area club. Kirkby's ace striker, Carl Haslem, proved way is in demand from a number of more senior clubs, he scored all four Kirkby goals. Three second half goals gave Kiveton Park a 3-0 win at Bulwell Town; despite this defeat the home team equipped themselves well, in an entertaining encounter. Robert Gorman and a

Kieran Debrouwer - Pinxton FC brace from Jonathan Gravelle the Kiveton sharp shooters. Thoresby Colliery Welfare won a close encounter against Parkhouse, the Edwinstowe based club, winning 2-1. Nine goals at Bentley Colliery, with the home team just nicking the points against the bottom club, Welbeck Welfare, 5-4. Michael Assard (2), Mathew Shaw (2) and Joe Lumsden on target for Bentley. Danny Whitshire hit a hat trick for Welbeck, Steve Vankavich adding the other goal. Only two matches survived pitch inspections in the Abacus Lighting Reserves Supreme Division and both produced eight goals. Teversal Reserves and Sutton Town AFC Reserves shared the goals at Carnarvon Street, Andy Woodcock scoring all four Teversal goals. Staveley Miners Welfare crushed Clipstone Welfare Reserves at the Lido Ground, Daniel Eborall hit a hat trick for the visitors in their 6-2 victory. A massive thirteen point lead, at the top of the Abacus Lighting Reserves Premier Division for Southwell City Reserves, they where behind 1-0 at the interval at home against Church Warsop Miners Welfare Reserves but came storming back in the second half to record a 3-1 victory. Connor Kelly scored the Church Warsop goal. Robert

What a day for Yorkshire Main Reserves striker Ryan White, he hit all his sides six second half goals, against Nettleham Reserves, the home team winning 7-2. Clipstone Welfare Reserves won 2-1 at home against Pinxton Reserves and an away win for Radcliffe Olympic Reserves 4-1 at Ollerton Town Reserves. Rob Pitman was on target for the second time in a week when his goal gave Kirby Muxloe a timely 1-0 win at leaders Borrowash Victoria. And the victory hoisted Kirby level on points at the top of the table. Pitman was among the scorers in his side's 3-0 midweek defeat of Ibstock United and Saturday's effort made it ten games unbeaten for the Ratby
Lane side. Borrowash still lead the pack on goal difference but waved goodbye to their unbeaten home record in the league. Gedling Town edged to within two points of the leading clubs following their 6-2 victory over St Andrews. Lavell White led the way with a hat-trick with the other Town goals coming from Rob Gill, Andy Davis and Ben Allison. St Andrews, who had been on a decent run going into the game, replied through James Mee and Kyle Robinson. The only other game to beat the weather was at Hinckley Downes where visitors Heanor Town went down 2-1. Adrian Hawes found the net for Heanor but the Downes were already two goals to the good through Brett Adams and Phil Warrington

Stags attacked the home goal from the first whistle, and watch.Springing a surprise, Cox opted to play centre half Paul had Lewes under heavy pressure for most of the match, with Robinson at right back and recalled Lindon Meikle to the David Holdsworth employing an adventurous 4-3-3 formation. starting line up at the expense of striker Matt Rhead. New Park Within the opening five minutes, Stags squandered a great Avenue Manager Lee Sinnott started with new signing James opportunity to break the deadlock. Home goalkeeper Rikki Knowles with his other signing ex-Middlesborough striker Andy Banks came 15 yards off his line to deny a Rob Duffy shot at Campbell on the bench. Mark Bett was the first to threaten the goal, and when the ball fell to Curtis Woodhouse from inside the Eastwood goal as Bradford shot out of the blocks. Bett cut in area he struck wide of the goalkeeper's left hand post with only from the right and fired over the bar. Dunning made an two home players on the line. A free kick was won slightly that took the lead. From a Bradford corner, the ball was only half right of centre, 25 yards from goal. Debutant Paul Mayo cleared to James Knowles at the edge of the box and his first stepped up to whip the ball into the top left hand corner, with time volley beat Shane Redmond but Dunning headed off the Banks left clutching at air. JOKE OF THE WEEK!
There was a man who worked for the Post Office whose job was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses. One day, a letter came addressed in a shaky handwriting to God with no actual address. He thought he should open it to see what it was about. The letter read: Dear God, I am an 83-year-old widow, living on a very small pension. Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had £100 in it, which was all the money I had until my next pension payment. Next Sunday is Christmas, and I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with, have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope. Can you please help me? Sincerely, Edna The postal worker was touched. He showed the letter to all the other workers. Each one dug into his or her wallet and came up with a few pounds. By the time he made the rounds, he had collected £96, which they put into an envelope and sent to the woman. The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of Edna and the dinner she would be able to share with her friends. Christmas came and went. A few days later, another letter came from the same old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the letter was opened. It read: Dear God, How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? Because of your gift of love, I was able to fix a glorious dinner for my friends. We had a very nice day and I told my friends of your wonderful gift. By the way, there was £4 missing. I think it was those b******s at the Post Office. Edna

Cooke almost found the head of defender Mark Hume who was still up for a corner, as all Bradford's confident play had vanished since the goal. Eastwood were winning the midfield battle and seemed happy to allow Bradford possession and hit them on the break. From one short move, Todd picked the ball up just outside the Eastwood box and ran the length of the pitch and despite the close attentions of two defenders slipped the ball to Holmes who flashed a shot just wide of the post. Bradford should have equalised in the 26th minute when Hockenhull and James combined well. From down the right James burst into the box and tried to bend the ball past Redmond but he tipped it past the post for a corner. From the corner the ball evaded everyone apart from Chris Hall on the back post and his header across the goal sailed agonisingly wide of the post. It was a contender for goal of the season that settled this match. Redmond's long kick went to Ian Holmes who switched the ball out to Lindon Meikle just outside the Bradford box and he bent the ball into the top corner of the net. Rory Patterson tried to respond quickly for Bradford but he fired well wide. Bradford got away with a blatant handball winning a throw in. The ball came to Mark Bett on the edge of the box and his thunderous shot hit the inside of the post and shot across the goal-line before Robinson put it into touch. Chris Hall won the first corner of the second half as Bradford looked to take the game to their visitors. Patterson came from midfield and burst into the box however Simon Sturdy produced a match winning tackle to prevent the Bradford striker from getting a shot in. It was Patterson's final action of the game as the striker was injured in the tackle. Hall's header from a corner made for an easy catch by Redmond, and Bradford were putting a lot of high balls into the box from wide areas but the Badgers were dealing with them comfortably. On the counter attack, Gardner played a delightful ball over the fullback and Meikle skinned him for pace before playing the ball back to Richard Dunning who flashed the ball just the wrong side of the post. Robinson produced a fantastic tackle to dispossess Hall as he burst into the box. Cooke played Meikle down the wing and into the box, Wornsop made a good save and Chris Stass just beat Andy Todd to the loose ball before the midfielder, to put the game beyond Bradford. Former Badger Mark Haran was lucky to get away with another blatant handball and denied Ian Holmes a clear run on goal. Wornsop made a good save from Meikle after Gardner, Holmes and Meikle had combined. Dunning gave away a free-kick just outside the box and in a replica of Meikle first half stunner Steve Connors curled a beautiful freekick towards the top corner of the goal. However Shane Redmond produced a match winning save flying to his right to tip the ball over for a corner. Connors next shot from a good position went well wide. The referee was managing to give every decision to Bradford, even the one time he was struggling to give a throw to the Avenue, the linesmen a fully 30 yards away helped him out. So it came as no surprise to the Eastwood faithful that he sent off Mark Hume for a foul just outside the box, Even the Bradford fans agreed it wasn't a booking, but Mr Cook was determined to make a name for himself. The Badgers held firm as Bradford threw everything at them in the final 10 minutes for a victory that will send shockwaves throughout the promotion chasing teams. So the Badgers end the
Non-League Football weekend in their highest ever league position in the football pyramid. The 100+ noisy following that travelled today was exceptional, constantly out-singing their counterparts in the 620 crowd. Bradford were probably the best team we have played this season despite the fact they had several new players, a new manager and hadn't played for three weeks. The great thing for the Badgers is that Bradford still have to play the likes of Hednesford, Marine and to be honest I can't see either of them taking any points off them. Pinxton FC 7 Kimberley Town 0 Pinxton crush Kimberley Town with a 7 goal mauling, Young Kieran Debrouwer, Kimberley's nightmare was involved in 4 of the goals, hit the bar from 20 yard, and controlled the left hand side with an authority way above his young years, which gave him the man of the match award. Super sub, Jay Cooper came on for [one a game Mark Downing], just before half time because of a old injury problem, and in 10 brilliant minutes in the second half Cooper nets 3 superb top quality goals, the goals came on the hour, 63 and on 70, to destroy the hearts and souls of Kimberley Town. To add to Kimberley's woe's Jason Burnham made his debut for Pinxton at the age of 35, Jason made his debut for Northampton Town at the age of 16 and went on to play for Chester City before seeing out his professional football career at Halesowen Town, He always said he would like to play for Pinxton fc and he's fulfilled that ambition against Kimberley Town, marked with a good performance and got an assist with Pinxton's second goal. It took just 22 minutes for Pinxton to start the scoring thanks to a quality Wayne Cook diagonal thunder bolt of a shot from the corner of the 18 yard box which found its way into the left hand corner of Kimberley's net, the fierce effort was a yard from the floor when it left Wayne's boot and it was a yard of the floor when it hit the net. Pinxton's second came from a Kieran Debrouwer free kick to the back post, the ball was headed back across goal by debut signing Jason Burnham, to the feet of Mark Downing who picked his spot from 6 yard on 28, that was Marks second in as many games. Pinxton where gifted their third goal when Mike Oxbrough the Kimberley keeper spilled a cross which gave Daniel Marriott one of his easiest of finishers on 33. Pinxton's fourth was made by Kieran Debrouwer just before the interval thanks to a committed mazy run into the 18 yard box, Kieran then found Pinxton's skipper Joe Riley with a Ronaldo type pass back right in front of goal 20 yard out, Joe's superbly struck strike was going into the top right hand corner as soon as it left his right boot to send Pinxton in at half time, 4-0 up. Cometh the hour cometh the young man, 17 year old Jay Cooper with his first of three goals on the day, It came from a confident run from deep leaving every one dazzled with the ease in which he left the Kimberley defence wanting, then 14 yard from goal with a one to one with the keeper his run was complemented by the shear effortless ease in which he found the right hand corner. Jay Cooper's second 3 minutes later was all about quality football from defence to goal down the left wing, Joe Riley started the move with a ball to the brilliant midfield dynamo, Frazer Thomas, who then in turn put the ball back wide to Kieran Debrouwer 40 yard from goal down the wing to complete the triangle, Kieran worked hard to hit the bye line and crossed the ball 6 yard out, right across Kimberley's goal mouth to Jay Cooper, who's timely run left him unmarked to finish coolly into the right of the shell-shocked Kimberley Town keeper's goal with a side footed effort. Pinxton's 7th to take then to seventh in the table came from the left again, but this time it was Pinxton stalwart, Daniel Marriott who delivered the cross to Jay Cooper, 6 yards out in front of goal, Jay calmly collected the ball with his right, turned to face goal and hit it with is left leaving Kimberley's keeper wondering what he had done to deserve this. Newark Town 0 Clipstone Welfare 3 Newark slipped to their second defeat in a row, as they went down to mid table Clipstone at Station Road. Town made 3 changes to the side that lost to Pinxton, with Billy Joe Warner making his first appearance of the season, while Matt Roche made his full debut. Newark dominated right from the off; Louis Cree's 20 yard shot forcing a good save from the legs of Sheppard on 2 minutes. Town had another opening three minutes later, as a cross by Steve Carty was guided wide at the far post by Warner, when he really should have scored. The home side threatened with set plays after this, but failed to conjure clear cut chances. The turning point of the match occurred on 22 minutes. Shortly after being hacked down on the touchline by Craig Buchanan,

See page 12 for league tables who escaped even a word from referee Smith, Ben Barnard was adjudged to have stamped on a Clipstone player, even though it appeared he made no contact, and was merely pulling out of taking a quick free kick. However the referee saw it differently, and produced the red card. After a tetchy few minutes, Clipstone had their first shot on goal 30 minutes into the match, when Russo's shot was comfortably gathered by Chris Riley. The keeper was busy again three minutes later, having to be alert to take the ball off Chris Hewitt on the edge of the area, after he had been played in by brother Michael. The visitors did take the lead on 42 minutes, when a long ball by Curly found Chris Hewitt all on his own up front, and the striker firmly slotted the ball past Riley, in what was their first meaningful attack. Newark made a double substitution at half time, Simon Ellison and FP McGregor, surprisingly replacing Matt Roche and Louis Cree at the front as the Blues tried to find a way back into the match. The forward pairing proved disappointing however, as they failed to create significant opportunities. Unsurprisingly, Clipstone bagged a second goal on 53 minutes, as Chris Hewitt's mazy run through three challenges cut the defence right open. He squared the ball to Russo who hammered the ball into the roof of the net, to double their advantage. Clipstone should have increased their lead four minutes later, when Chris Hewitt beat Riley to the ball, but his shot was cleared off the line by Mark Blant to concede the corner. From the corner Michael Hewitt hit a first time shot from 25 yards, after Gary Buchanan had dummied to deceive the defence. The shot was well saved by Riley in the Town goal. Clipstone eventually got their 3rd goal on 70 minutes, when a cross from the right was flicked on by Jones into the path of Chris Hewitt, who headed powerfully into the back of the net. Newark's only chance of note in the second half came from Mark Ellison, whose free kick stung the fingers of Shepperd in the Clipstone goal. The second half had been a complete reversal of the first, Town struggling increasingly as the game went on. Nettleham 2 Southwell City 2 Southwell City were fortunate to return home with a point when they visited Mulsanne Park on Saturday. A lack lustre performance and a dismal second half display prevented any chance of obtaining three points to move them two places up the table. A superb goalkeeping performance from Darren Sharpe complimented by an equally superb performance from central defender Jack Hudson almost certainly prevented a Nettleham win. Nettleham opened the scoring on 7 minutes when captain Lee Beesley beat City's off-side trap and rounded Darren Sharpe to tap in. City levelled the score 9 minutes later when City boss mark Nangle was brought down in the Nettleham penalty area and Danny Prance made no mistake. Two minutes later and City took the lead with a superb team goal. No fewer that 12 twelve consecutive City passes resulted in Alex Turpin receiving the ball wide on the right, his accurate cross found Ally Haynes on the far post who headed home passed Mike Redgrift. The services of Darren Sharpe were called upon mid-way through the first half when he made two point blank saves from Nettleham's Steve Mason and then from Chris Belshaw to maintain the City lead. Nettleham launched further attacks and Lee Beesley netted two times but on each occasion he was ruled off side as the City defence continued to live dangerously. City boss Nangle used all his guile and experience by holding the ball up well and fed the ball to the advancing City midfield and Alex Turpin, Tom McDonald and Ally Haynes all came close. The half time whistle came with City's lead intact much to the dismay of the Nettleham players and staff.Nettleham started the second half at a brisk pace and in the first minute Tom Dorr missed a great chance to level the scores. The home side continued to press forward and further chances fell to their forwards. On the 17 minute mark Lee Beesley was again put through on goal but Jack Hudson made a superb challenged to deny the Nettleham captain. Nangle replaced the injured Adam Meakin and Alex Turpin with Daniel Severn and Kyle Croft to bolster the midfield in an attempt to protect City's slender lead but he Nettleham attacks were unabated. The Nettleham manager Mason decided to replace defender Michael Neaverson with Josh Bowden and played with three up front in search of the well deserved equaliser. This tactic was rewarded 8 minutes from time when Lee Beesley scored his second of the match. Despite further Nettleham pressure City were able to hold out for a fortunate point.

Calverton & Arnold District Pool League - AMAZING EAGLES SET NEW LEAGUE RECORD! Divison 1 Ex Service Club Empire Dragons Cherry Tree A Victory Club Divison 2 Major Oak Calverton M. W.

Congratulations must go to The Eagles Brokencues, who have set a new 30 year League record after receiving yet another drubbing, this time at the hands of Cherry Tree A. The latest debacle, in the final game of the season, means they have managed the unenviable feat of ELEVEN defeats in a row, which has never been seen before by any other team, since the League began way back in 1978. Calls made by many opposition players, that they should receive a commemorative trophy at the forthcoming Presentation Night have been rejected by the League committee as flippant and unsporting, although they did agreed to contact the Guinness Book Of World Records to check if it merited inclusion in the next edition. Sadly, Norris McWhirter's successor reported back that it wasn't quite the worse run in the world ever, as a team of blind expats once lost fifteen straight games in the 1983 season of the Benidorm and District Pool League. They did however say that we should contact them again next season if the Eagles have a dodgy start to life in Division Two. Empire B secured their second successive runners-up award after a convincing win at Ex Service Club in Arnold, where Calverton & Arnold Interleague stars, Dave Wainwright, Loz Sanderson, Nidge

Orton and Simon Thompson all had good wins. Simon's victory also assured him of joint top spot in the League Averages standings, much to the disappointment of local trainee hair stylist, Ashley Radford. The Hucknall boys have now secured their entry into the Champion Of Champions national pool competition to be held at Great Yarmouth later in the year. League champions Empire Dragons rounded off their unbeaten season with a lucky 10-2 win over a depleted Railway Volunteers side, devoid of several top players including Calverton & Arnold Interleague star, Andy Leese, ex Oxton village over 40's champion, Nick Peake and current Anderson Home Ladies runner-up, Carol Anderson, who was unable to play after badly injuring her shoulder whilst applying lipstick during her pre-match warm-up. As a result of Carol's freak injury, the aforementioned Ashley Radford, who had bottled out of playing earlier in the night, was left high and dry in his quest for his first Averages Title and will now have to face Calverton & Arnold Interleague star, Simon Thompson in a play-off. Elsewhere in Division One, draw specialists, Victory Club, might have managed their seventh of the season, had the Cherry Tree B

team done the maths and known nine players are needed to complete a match. However after a ding dong battle, which saw Tony Bates secure his tenth appearance at the Averages Knock Out Cup (surely another record?), and with the match tied at 5-5, Cherry Tree B ran out of players and so had to forfeit the last two all important legs. On a miraculous note, Andy “Behind The Bar” Hayes, having tried since August last year, finally managed to gain his elusive second win of the season, when he spanked the Victory Club's new through-away leg, Chris Stapleton. In the Division Two promotion decider, Balfour Club, despite being one player short, duly claimed their place in the highest echelons of Calverton & Arnold pool with an easy victory at local rivals Major Oak. As expected, in the top of the Averages shoot out, Alan “Hotdog” Gregory beat County player, Matt Coates in a one-sided game to secure his second successive 2nd Division Averages Title. The defeat sees Matt finish only fifth in the League standings, a position that by all accounts has not impressed County B team craptain, Ron Sharpe. Report by Trevor Chambers

League Tables over page BEESTON, CHILWELL & DIST. DARTS LADIES: Birchover cement their place more firmly at the top of the league after beating close rivals Boat (Lenton) in a closely fought match before emerging with a 4-3 victory. Close at heel is Boat & Horses who, despite a 4 point deficit on the leaders, closed the leg difference to just 2 legs with a tremendous 5-2 win over Inham Nook. Although the Nook is a newbie side they have more than proved themselves as formidable
opponents and have generally fluctuated around the centre of the league and I've a feeling that with the first half seasons experience under their belt the others will have a match on their hands this half. Greyhound take their second win over Jaguar proving yet again that when you have team spirit and they all show, you have the power to turn things around, well played Greyhound. MEN'S: Men's Pairs took place this Tuesday as the leagues took a break. Through to the last eight are: R. Attenborough & M. Ali of Birchover SC; J. Smith & M. Stout of Pelican; T. Bennett-Bull & R. Bennett-Bull of Wollaton SC; P. Topley & R. Spencer of Boat & Horses B; R. Bloomfield & R. Keys of Boat & Horses A; D. Gadsby & P. Gadsby of Queens; R. Brookes & T. Cox of Queens and R. Limb & A. Wilson of Boat (Lenton) well done guys, we'll see you on the finals night at Boat & Horses on Tuesday 24th March NOTTINGHAM CENTRAL DARTS LADIES: Pride and CBI both take close wins to secure their places as first and second respectively. Strelley seems to have gone off the boil since moving from the Rose. Having held the champion pole slot for over three consecutive weeks they haven't won a match since leaving the Rose and are slowly slipping away from the chance of grasping that coveted throne. Just goes to show a move isn't always in the teams best interest, still, knowing the grit of this team they might just pull the fighting spirit out over the last 10 matches they sorely need that now. Meanwhile division B sees what seems like a two horse race between Park Tavern and Nuthall to retain the top slot. At first glance it seems like they might if it wasn't for that true Clifton grit from the Sun Valley gals which has seen them take their last two matches in an astounding 6-1 victory with one of those being White horse, which is no mean feat in itself. Although they have been a steady third for most part of the first half, that gap is now starting to close, keep it up Sun Valley, game on. Report by Paul G Lacey.

Ice Hockey Cardiff Devils 3 Nottingham Panthers 5 With the GMB Nottingham Panthers battling throughout they took the points with a gritty road performance in Cardiff thanks to a 3-5 victory on Saturday night. Kevin Bergin went at it with Voth at the opening face-off and there was more rough stuff along the way. Bergy came out of the box and then scored on a powerplay to open the scoring in the ninth minute and Bruce Richardson doubled the lead before the end of the first period. Devils got one back on the powerplay before Matthew Myers scored on another powerplay to restore the two-goal cushion before the second break. Devils again reduced the deficit before Dan Tessier fired home on yet another powerplay and Matthew's second in the 53rd minute increased the lead. Devils scored the last goal of the game in the 54th minute to leave GMB Panthers coach Corey Neilson praising his side for a great team effort in which they refused to be intimidated. Elsewhere all the top teams won and there was high drama at Coventry. Leaders Sheffield won at Edinburgh (0-4), Belfast beat bottom club Basingstoke in overtime (5-4) and Coventry came from two goals down with less than thirty seconds to go to equalise with their goalie pulled at home to Manchester and then scored the winner in overtime (7-6). Newcastle scored the only goal of the third period to beat Hull (3-2).

Doncaster 25 Nottingham 14 Nottingham failed to record a victory away at Doncaster for the third consecutive season on Saturday losing 25-14, leaving the two teams level in the head to head stakes this season. The completion of the De Mulder-Lloyd stand at Castle Park seeming to echo the feeling of a completed team on the field that seems no longer a work in progress. Doncaster Knights dominated the game throughout and were deserved winners. Almost from the off The South Yorkshire side displayed their determination to play positively as Scrum half Hallam played in Wes Davies to score in the first significant open play of the game. Five points to the good Doncaster were dominating the forward contest that was key to the victory. The forwards battle raged for the next 20 minutes, with a busy referee penalising Nottingham for regularly jumping over the maul and holding on. Strong forward play by Doncaster, skipper Glen Kenworthy especially, kept Nottingham at bay, the 24th minute penalty by Jamie Lennard a result of the strong scrimmaging on show from the Armthorpe rd team. Nottingham's forwards seemed constantly on the back foot, as the front five of Doncaster swept up almost every ball and showed a fierce concentration. 34 mins into the game Nottingham finally get a meaningful attack, after an uncharacteristically mistimed pass from Hallam left Lennard with little chance, Alex Dodge
rivals Coventry on Sunday night. The final scoreline of 1-3 included a late empty-net strike for the visitors who came from behind after Matthew Myers dived to poke home shorthanded for the only goal of a blistering first period which saw the home side outshoot their visitors two to one. But the tide turned in favour of the Blaze in the second and two goals, the first on the powerplay and the second after a giveaway proved to be enough. That was the first period Blaze had won against Nottingham in ten, but proved decisive. GMB Panthers sorely missed their two sharpshooters, Johan Molin and David Clarke. Panthers were the only side at the top of the standings to drop points on the weekend. Leaders Sheffield won again in Edinburgh (2-5) and Belfast won in Basingstoke (1-7). Other results saw Hull beat Newcastle (42) and Manchester beat Cardiff (2-0). Corey Neilson said after his side went down to the Blaze : "The effort was there but it is hugely disappointing. We missed Clarkey and Johan, if they'd been on the end of some of the opportunities we created, especially in the first, it might have been a different story. We refuse to give up on anything, but obviously it is a dent to our hopes." Corey will review the weekend and fans can anticipate some announcements during the coming week from the club.

ran in a try from this for the visitors to which Tonks added the extra points. The lapse in concentration punished with clinical efficiency. The half finished 11 points to 7 in favour of Doncaster as Jamie Lennard coolly slotted over a penalty in extra time. The Knights had won the forward battle from beginning to end, but the defensive line of Nottingham had weathered the storm in tiring conditions. Almost from the off strong running Tongan centre Hudson Tonga'uiha powered in to place the posts, with Jamie Lennard converting and the game seemed ready to run away from Nottingham. This pivotal point of the game swung back to a balance due to some cool defence from the visitors. Having managed to take the sting out the Knights attacking play in the first half, Nottingham stuck to their task of a 15 man defence until they once again they profited from a Doncaster error. A poorly timed catch by the usually unshakeable Carter left Nottingham's Taylor with an open gate to a try, and the conversion by Tonks had the game at an 18-14 score line. The score not reflecting the match dominance by Doncaster, but highlighting the pride in what was at stake for both sides. On the 64th minute the sharp passing of , desparate to make up for his perceived error earlier, hit Jamie Lennard with a pass that left the Fly Half facing a gap in the visitors line. With work left to do Lennard crossed the try line and added the final try of the game to his points total, and then included the resulting conversion to his statistics. This gave the Knights breathing space, but a tough Nottingham side still refused to roll over for the Knights forwards and their refusal to be overpowered meant the game finished at that Doncaster 2514 Nottingham score line. The intensity with which the game was played boiled over after 80 minutes, although sensible refereeing from the man in the middle cooled the situation and left both sides with a full complement of players until the final whistle.

THE BALLS CALLS....Wayne Buck! (MMA & Boxing Star)
This week BallsMania has decided to start a new feature of the magazine interviewing a local sporting celebrity. With the massive increase in popularity of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and the recent news that a UK team will be heading abroad to fight the best of the rest of the World, BallsMania tracked down local MMA star Wayne Buck – Nottingham's very own representative within the team! MMA Record – W5 L2 D0, Boxing Record – W10 L4 D1 Wayne is a very interesting character at the age of 42 when most guys would perhaps be thinking of taking life a little easier, he finds himself on the verge of representing the UK in what is known as the 'M1 Challenge Team' and will be challenging for an All England Boxing Title on Feb 28th at Isis. For those who don't know too much about the sport of MMA, think of a cage, throw in 2 guys who've trained as Wayne receives his Calendar from a fighters (possibly in any number of martial arts) for a BallsMania Playboy Bunny! number of years, add in the opportunity to win a big purse for the man who walks out in the better shape and simply Minonzio on top of me as you can imagine I struggled. As I close the door! There is a referee of course and there are kept pushing to get up the referee viewed it as a tap out a few rules….but not many! and decided to stop the fight. I'm not taking anything away from Matteo but I still believe I can beat him and felt that both fights were ended prematurely. BM: So I take it with the recent news that you're due to fight at Isis on 28th February for the English Title the hand is ok? WB: Yeah it's sound…back to normal thank goodness. BM: So 2 controversial fights in MMA but you still have plenty to look forward to. Your inclusion in the UK 's M1 Challenge team must have cheered you up? WB: Yes, that's right I'll be out in the US sometime in March/April with a couple of other guys from Nottingham. We're all very much looking forward to it and think we can do the UK proud. BM: I bet you are, I hear on the grapevine you've all Wayne reading his favourite Magazine been invited to be guests at Hugh Hefners Playboy mansion? Obviously to become involved in such a sport it's always WB: Well we're actually fighting there in the mansion handy to have spent a large proportion of your younger itself…could be interesting! days involved in some form of martial arts and also to BM: I'm sure it will be, is there any chance you'll be have kept yourself in tiptop condition. Thankfully for needing a roving reporter?? Wayne he's done plenty of that….. WB: Yeah I may well do….I'll let you know I met up with Wayne at Hucknall Leisure Centre where he BM: Sounds great to me, what a feature BallsMania arrived with gloves and pads at the ready – fortunately does the Playboy Mansion! I must say though its all a they weren't for me but in preparation for a training long way from working the doors at Liberty's? session after. It was very apparent from the outset of our WB: Yeah that's right (laugh) but it was something I did at meeting that Wayne's dedication to his fitness and the the time to make ends meet and it was a job at the end of fight game is massive. Although there's no doubt the day. It had its ups and its downs. Wayne's a big guy whose like a wild animal once inside BM: I'm sure it did, so tell me a bit more about how the fight arena whether a boxing ring or MMA cage he you got into Boxing and MMA? was very polite and welcoming….and so the questions WB: Well when I was a 10 my Dad encouraged me to lift began. weights and took me down to the local boxing gym, by the BM: After a second successive defeat to Matteo age of 16 I'd reached the amateur English Schoolboys Minonzio I'm sure you're rather gutted, how did you semi finals, but then things changed…..basically I view the fights? realised women were about and got slightly distracted! WB: Well in all honesty the first fight I lost after the referee BM: Yes well I know the feeling! stopped the fight due to cut at the side of my eye caused WB: I then dabbled in and out of boxing and then began by a clash of heads. It was fair enough I suppose because power lifting, which I found I seemed to have a real talent at the end of the day with blood in my eye it was pretty for. I ended up representing GB and winning the U23 difficult to see, but I personally think the ref did stop it too British Title back in 1988. The following year I entered the early as I could have carried on. The recent rematch was European Championships and won a silver medal. I won a huge disappointment to me and in all honesty ended up the U23 British title again the following year but then in a bit of confusion. I fell onto my right hand which I later decided at 122 kilos I'd achieved what I wanted and found out I broke. I tried to pull myself up but with decided to shed the weight.
I started running and then took up boxing again and became the Midlands Area Champion. During those years I even fought Joe Bugner Jnr and was given a draw. During that time I met the love of my life Joanne who encouraged me to keep with the Boxing, after 3 more fights at Cruiserweight winning them all I got a bit disillusioned with boxing and decided to give it a rest. I continued to keep my fitness up and one day a pal of mine said that he'd started MMA and needed help with his boxing skills. I went along and helped out and before I knew it I was hooked. BM: That's quite a past you've had – so from Boxing to MMA was that difficult? WB: Not really the guys at the club taught me Muay Thai, Jui Jitsu and Wrestling and after a year or so I started doing it properly working on the takedowns, defence and general fitness. BM: So I have to ask you as I know a number of people will want to know do you think there will be a rematch with Matteo Minonzio? WB: I would like to think so as I certainly want to settle the score. I'm confident I can beat him but for the moment I'm concentrating on the M1 challenge and my boxing comeback on Feb 28th. BM: Well Wayne its been great to meet you and we'd like to wish you all the very best with the M1 tour. Here's a BallsMania calendar for taking the time out to talk to us today. I look forward to my invite to Playboy Mansion! WB: Thanks……the calendar's great, not to sure my wife will approve! I'd just like to say thanks to a few people – NRG Fuel Sports Nutrition Mark, Malvin and the rest of the family from Total Reclaims Demo Level One Security UK Property Investment Portfolio.com Moggy at Muscle Factory & Fight Factory If you'd like to watch Wayne and a whole host of other local stars in action at Isis on February 28th call 07966 011289
