Notts County made it four points from a possible six in their away double-header at Bournemouth and Lincoln with a 1-1 draw at Sincil Bank this afternoon. After dominating the majority of the first half County had to wait until the sixty-fourth minute to take the lead thanks to Delroy Facey's calm finish after taking advantage of a defensive blunder by the home side. However the lead barely lasted a minute when sub Sam Mullarkey crashed home a superb long-range drive for the Imps and County had to settle for a draw. County were unchanged from the side that defeated Bournemouth a week ago. Ex-Imp Jamie Forrester retained his place up front after returning to the team at the Fitness First Stadium. Jamie Clapham meanwhile passed a fitness test on his calf to start at his hometown club. In windy conditions in Lincolnshire City got the game underway and won an early free-kick which came to nothing as Kovacs wildly blasted over and fine block from Clapham denied N'Guessan on four minutes at the expense of a corner which Pilkington claimed well. County's first effort came on twelve minutes when Phil Picken let fly with a left-foot shot from twenty-five yards that whistled just wide after a good spell of Notts pressure. By the midway point of the half the rain was pouring down at Sincil Bank and along with the wind the conditions were hardly ideal for either side. A typically mazy run and cross by Weston on twenty-four picked out a stretching Hamshaw at the far post and he directed his effort over the bar. Weston blasted wide on twenty-eight minutes on the volley after the Imps had failed to clear their lines. A fine break following a Lincoln corner on thirty-three almost resulted in County taking the lead but after good work by Forrester to hold the ball up and lay the ball into Hamshaw's path the winger dragged his shot wide. A heroic block by Beevers denied Thompson his first County goal another mesmerising run by Weston. The young winger's cross caused complete panic in the Imps
Mansfield 1 Torquay 1 Attendance: 2,437 Mansfield earned a battling and entertaining draw against high-flying Torquay at Field Mill today. The Stags will be disappointed not to come away with the win after dominating the first half, but Torquay then took the ascendency in the second period and deserved their equaliser. Despite windy conditions which troubled both teams throughout, the game was full of chances and open attacking play. Rob Duffy gave Mansfield the lead in the 36th minute, but his close-range tap-in was cancelled out by Blair Sturrock's debut goal midway through the second half. Ryan Williams and Louis
box and it was only by some fortunate that the ball stayed out of the goal. Thompson looked odds on to score but Beevers threw his body in the way inside the six-yard box. The pressure continued and a scissor-kick from Forrester was superbly tipped over by Burch. County were in the driving seat and Weston was the Imps' tormentor but by the break they hadn't turned their pressure into goals. At the break County made a change in attack with Forte replacing Hamshaw and operating on the right-hand side of midfield. Neither side could stamp their full authority on the game in the opening stages of the second half. It took until the hour for the first effort to be registered and Pilkington was quick off his line to get a hand to Wright's shot and turn the ball into the side netting. Another electric break by Weston saw his cross pick out Forrester on sixty-two minutes but Burch quickly rushed off his line and threw his body in the way of the striker's effort at goal. On sixty-four though County did break the deadlock through Delroy Facey who took his goals tally to nine for the season with a welltaken finish. A mix-up between goalkeeper Burch and an Imps defender allowed Facey to nip in and reach the ball first and despite the odds being against him with a tight angle the striker rolled the ball into the net to send the away fans wild. But, the lead barely lasted a minute. Lincoln kicked off and sub Sam Mullarkey was given far too much time and space to shoot from twenty-five yards and his effort flew into the top corner with Pilkington given no chance at all of keeping the ball out. After those explosive two minutes the game settled down again. Picken had a shot routinely saved by Burch after he made a burst forwards from right-back and County were continuing to look lively going forwards. A superb turn and shot by Facey almost burst the back of the net ten minutes from time but the striker was just off target after Weston did well to pick him out in the area. Ben Fairclough was introduced into the action six minutes from time in place of Jamie Forrester who left the field to a warm round of applause from the City faithful. Weston tested Burch with just ten seconds of normal time remaining but his shot was straight at the goalkeeper. After two successive games on the road Notts return to action at Meadow Lane next Saturday against Chester City. Briscoe were the main sources of creativity for Mansfield, and both could have capped off their fine displays with a second half goal, but both were denied. Briscoe's drilled shot into a crowded six-yard-box fell kindy for Scott Bevan in the Torquay goal, while Williams put a cute lob just over after being put through by substitute Daryl Clare's neat touch. At the other end, despite finally having his impressive home goalless streak finally broken, Alan Marriott made several fine saves, including one from Tim Sills that would have powered into the top corner and given Torquay the lead. Both created plenty of opportunities infront of goal, but the Stags will be rueing Nathan Arnold's two miscued headers in the first half, while Roscoe Dsane twice should have done better for the visitors in the second half. He failed to seriously trouble Marriott, and was substituted soon after. Mansfield made two changes to the starting line-up that lost an injury time heart-breaker at Grays Athletic last weekend. Neil MacKenzie stepped into midfield for the unavailable Curtis Woodhouse. Continued on next page

Continued from previous page The Stags uncompromising midfield battler will be boxing in Sheffield tonight, where several of his Mansfield teammates will be supporting him. Louis Briscoe earned a rare start, as he partnered Rob Duffy upfront, and replacing Mark Stallard who drops to the bench. New signing Oliver Hotchkiss was named on the bench alongside striker Daryl Clare, who scored on his debut at Grays. Mansfield dominated the early stages, aided by the strong wind, and it was MacKenzie who had the first effort at goal for Mansfield, but his fifth minute half-volley flew well wide. The midfielder had another shot over on the quarter-hour mark, before Nathan Arnold wasted the first of his unmarked headers from a Ryan Williams cross. Torquay's first effort on goal came on the half-hour as Marriott was forced into an acrobatic save, finger-tipping Wayne Carlisle's excellent curling lob onto the crossbar. Mansfield's response was swift, as they Arnold missed another header, and then Williams took it upon himself, but his low shot was flashed just wide. Moments later the Stags took the lead through Rob Duffy. Bevan could only palm MacKenzie's low curling shot from the edge of the area into Briscoe's path, and he neatly centred it to Duffy who had time and space to shoot into an empty net. The second half started scrappily, however Torquay now had the wind assistance, and they made first use of it, pressing Mansfield hard. Sturrock was proving a handful on his debut for the Torquay, and having seen a curling shot drift just wide, he got the goal his display deserved. The striker latched on to a hopeful long ball that evaded the Stags defence and coolly lobbed over the onrushing Marriott. Both sides had chances to win it in the remaining 20 minutes, but neither could take them, and the draw was a fair result.

Stuart Verrall added the other with Heanor's goals coming from Paddy Sneath and Graham Wells. Borrowash Victoria remain a point off the lead following their 2-1 victory over St Andrews. The visitors struck first through Kyle Robinson before Jamie Pawley and Anthony Mothershead fired Borrowash to the points. Barrow Town climbed into the top three after their 2-0 win at Ibstock United, Scott McLennon and Robbie Banks scoring, the latter from the spot. Top five rivals Dunkirk and Gedling Town shared the points in a 0-0 draw while Radford drew 1-1 at Ellistown. But Bardon Hill Sports climbed out of the relegation places thanks to their 4-3 defeat of Greenwood Meadows, Steve Moult scoring the winner as his side clawed its way back after trailing 3-1 at the break. Eastwood Town 1 Kendal 1 Paul Cox surprised most people by ringing the changes reverting back to the defensive formation that was so solid before Christmas and bringing back Matt Rhead for his first start January 20th in place of Marc Smith. Ian Deakin replaced Shane Redmond in goal as the Irishman is away on international duty. As with the last two games the wind was a prominent feature making football very difficult for both teams. David Foster was the first to threaten, jinxing his way past Matt Rhead following a short corner but he
put his cross straight into Deakin's arms. David Newnes in the Kendal goal had to be alert to stop Richard Dunning bursting through to get onto Lindon Meikle's pass. The relief for Kendal was short lived though as Andy Todd put the Badgers ahead in the fifth minute with a brilliantly taken goal. Under pressure from Matt Rhead Kendal captain Tony Hallam could only head straight to Ian Holmes. His cross field pass was taken down by Todd who pushed it past the fullback and fired across Newnes and into the corner of the net. Five minutes later Todd almost repeated the feat, fizzing the ball past the upright after a patient build-up and at the other end Danny Foster should have done better heading Danny Wisdom's corner wide. Kendal, after a shaky start, were starting to knock the ball around well. Danny Wisdom did well down the left before delivering a good cross that Martin Young cushioned down into Michael Cole path but the young midfielders shot lacked any power. Kieran Walmsley's free kick lead to Russell Cooke conceding a corner and Ian Deakin producing a good catch under pressure. A quick free kick found Ian Holmes on the edge of the area but he snatched at the shot giving Newnes a simple save at the near post. Callum Warburton did well to stop Meikle after Holmes and Rhead had combined well to release him. With the pitch rock hard despite the rain in recent days, a bad bounce almost released Holmes but Dan Wordsworth cleared only as far as the edge of the box where Richard Dunning fired over. Rhead headed on a long goal kick and two Kendal defenders got in each others way allowing Holmes to run clear however the referee brought play back for offside. Rhead chested Dunning's free kick down, before shooting over the bar and Matt Young shot wide of the post after Paul Robinson had conceded a corner. Matt Young never got hold of a shot which rolled through to Deakin and David Foster was offside as Kendal finished the half strongly. Newnes was soon in action, saving well from Rhead's header from a Dunning cross. Rhead was the fulcrum of the Eastwood attacks and he was doing well as the target man bringing the players around him into the game. He almost celebrated his recall with a goal by chipping the advanced Newnes from Holmes flick but just clearing the crossbar. Substitute Craig Hobson gave notice of arrival receiving the ball just outside the box but his shot posed Deakin no problem however he went one better a few minutes later heading home Michael Cole's delightful right wing cross on 53 minutes. In a largely entertaining second half, Andy Todd shot wide after being teed up by Holmes and Hobson tested Deakin with Warburton putting the ball wide from the rebound. Deakin's long kick was chested into the path of Holmes by Rhead but he chipped over with the keeper

stranded. Holmes cross went begging after being played in by Cooke, and Danny Holland cleverly lifted the ball over the defender but Newnes beat him to the loose ball. Smith was fouled just outside the area Newnes doing very well to tip Dunning's free kick over for a corner. The flag saved Kendal when Holmes crossed for Holland as the Badgers threw caution to the wind. Todd played a superb ball in to Holland who flicked it on to Holmes but Newnes saved, and Holmes sprinted clear of Hallam but put his shot across Newnes but wide of the post. Wordsworth headed wide after Hobson had headed Wisdom's free kick into the box. The ball went straight down the other end and Holmes headed Flynn's cross behind under pressure. Kendal were certainly playing their part in the match. A Walmsley free kick was easily saved by Deakin but he had a second chance when Wisdom chased a lost cause. Catching it on the touchline he crossed for Walmsley who bicycle- kicked over the bar. In a frantic finale there were nearly goals at both ends within a matter of seconds. First Cole hit a good shot that Deakin did very well to hold. Planting the ball deep into the Kendal half, Danny Holland stepped inside his man and blasted a shot on goal which Newnes parried and only a last ditch tackle prevented Holmes from scoring the winner. Despite dropping two points, there wasn't the same air of despondency that

Non-League Football surrounded Tuesday night's defeat. Kendal for their part were well worth their point having worked hard to deny the Badgers time and space and were prepared to play some good football too. Arnold Celebrate their win Ten man Arnold marked their 1,000 game with a victory against the odds. The home side had taken a 12th minute lead as Simms saw his shot blocked only for the ball to fall to Brewster just outside the area – his drive from the corner of the area flew into the top corner to give Burley no chance. The Eagles should have increased their advantage three minutes later with Freestone shooting wide when clean through. Broster then dived full length to save from Ingram and just before the break Walton had a 'goal ' ruled out for off side. Arnold had further opportunities to increase their lead with Freestone lobbing over the bar and Simms having a shot deflected wide. The visitors were level on 53 minutes as Gilbey and Ingram combined well to put Jackman through who coolly slotted home. Neilson was then fortunate to only receive a caution for a foul on Brewster. Arnold went in search of a winner in the gusty conditions with Clarke heading against the cross bar. The turning point in the game came after 73 minutes Hall was harshly given his marching orders for a foul on Gibson. Arnold refused to let their numerical disadvantage count against them as they went in search of a winner. Just two minutes after the dismissal they got their reward with a superb goal. Freestone's cross field ball found the impressive Simms on the right – the striker took a touch and bent a beautifully placed effort low in to the far corner. Arnold further increased their lead three minutes from time as Simms fed Clifford who crossed to the far post where substitute Carruthers planted a bullet header into the roof of the net.
three points from Kinsley Boys. The Blues were forced into one change from their victory over Calverton, with Ben Barnard replacing the suspended Steve Carty. Town started the match brightly, Chris Self creating an opportunity on 3 minutes, when he beat two defenders, before shooting wide of the right hand post. Two minutes later, Sam Wilford made a promising run, but his dangerous looking cross was turned behind by a defender. The hosts settled after this nervy start, and created a couple of chances themselves, most notably a header straight at Chris Riley by Stapleton. Kinsley then began to dominate possession, with the strong wind at their backs. For a ten minute period Newark struggled to get out of their own half, although the home side rarely tested Chris Riley. Town eventually settled to the conditions, and came more into the game as the half went on. Firstly, on 28 minutes, Mark Ellison's free kick from 25 yards beat the wall but not Walstow, who saved comfortably. Three minutes later, a long throw from Mark Blant found Chris Self, who saw his mistimed shot get caught in the wind, only for it to land on the roof of the net. On 32 minutes, Town felt they should have been awarded a penalty, when it appeared Self had been felled in the penalty area by the keeper, as the striker attempted to take the ball around him. The referee thought otherwise and signalled play on. The half continued in a disjointed manner; with a half chance for Darren Baldwin the only other sign of a goal. The sides went in level at the break, the opening 45 minutes having done little to warm the shivering spectators. The introduction of Craig Roche, and in particular Louis Cree at half time, helped lift Newark's game, and added an extra spark into the performance. Cree's influence was almost instant, after being played in by Wade, he beat a defender and rounded the keeper, but in the end the angle was just too much and he shot inches past the far post on 49 minutes. Town continued to dominate the second half, and had another opportunity on 58 minutes when Cree beat two defenders with a good turn, and in the end Walstow could only parry the ball away, Sam Wilford being unfortunate not to get the rebound. Kinsley gave Newark a warning on 74 minutes though, when a forceful run by Saunders saw him beat the defence, and test Riley, who reacted well to save low to his left. The keeper's quick clearance found Sam Wilford, who attempted to lob the ball over the keeper, but Walshaw managed to get his fingertips on it, before finally conceding the corner. On 85 minutes, Riley failed to deal with a corner, and the ball found its way to Jones, who poked the ball just wide of the post. However, it was Town who snatched all three points, two minutes from time, when a cross by Chris Self was deflected into the path of Ian Wade, who flicked the ball in off the post. The goal was deserved, as Town had had the better of the second half. They played out the remaining moments of the match with little trouble to secure the victory. The victory lifts Town to 5th place.
Southwell City 2 Sutton Town 3 Southwell City were unfortunate not to get at least one if not all three points in a match affected by the strong wind and blustery conditions at the Memorial Ground. Kicking with the wind Sutton used the elements to their advantage as long balls deep into the City half meant that was little respite for the City defence. In contrast City, against the strong wind, resorted to a much shorter Kinsley Boys 0 passing game. City boss Mark Nangle was forced to Newark Town 1 make an early substitution when the injured James For the second time in a fortnight, Town travelled to Jepson was replaced by Alex Turpin. pressure from the visitors City opened up the scoring on 19 minutes when Ben Porter received the ball wide on the left and crossed to Chris Atkins in the six yard box who firmly sent the ball across the goal where 17 year old Dominic Williams was on hand to supply the simple tap in. Sutton continued the pressure and long ball tactics and were rewarded with a succession of corners and on 24 minutes from one of these corners Steve Bayliss found himself un-marked on the far post to head home the Sutton equaliser. Eight minutes later following a fantastic run on the right flank by Martin Newman, Sutton were awarded another corner which resulted in Sutton's Dave Crowder shooting from just inside the penalty area but City's young defender Jack Hudson made a vital interception to save a certain goal for Crowder. The pressure on the City goal was unrelenting and on 35 minutes Steve Bayliss came close to his second goal but his close range shot went high over the City cross bar. Sutton finally breached the City defence on 39 minutes when they deservedly scored their second goal, once again a poorly defended Sutton corner found Dave Crowder un-marked and his firm header gave City's Darren Sharpe no chance. A 2-1 score line was probably a fair reflection of the first half but 3 minutes into added time Anthony Rowley crossed the ball across the City goal and under no pressure Darren Sharpe seemed to make a simple save but the ball somehow managed to squirm underneath Sharpe into the path of Crowder who scored with the easiest chance he will experience. Throughout the second half City were now able to exploit the elements and despite an early scare on 47 minutes when City keeper Darren Sharpe made a superb point blank save from Anthony Rowley, Sutton rarely looked like adding to their score. City launched attack after attack and on 57 minutes Ben Porter broke through the Sutton defence only to be denied by a good save at his feet by Mark Foster in the Sutton goal. Foster was kept busy for the rest of the afternoon as all the City strikers came close but Foster was in great form and managed to protect his goal until the 80th minute when Daniel Harding unleashed a firm shot from outside the box and with Foster beaten the ball hit the upright as once again City were denied their just deserts. With four minutes remaining Ben Porter once a gain came close as Foster turned the ball around the post for a corner. Porter sent in a perfect centre and defender Danny Prance's firm header found the back of the Sutton net. City pushed everyone forward in search of a well deserved equaliser but the Sutton defence were able to hold out until the final whistle which came as great relief.

COMBINATION - BESTWOOD MW THROUGH TO THE FINALS! Bestwood Miners Welfare won through to the Final of the Eddie Varney Senior Trophy on Wednesday despite being held 0-0 by fellow premier division side Greyfriars Celtic. Opting to play with the wind Bestwood had the better of the first half and even had the ball in the net but Jay Tinsley was adjudged to have climbed when winning a header so Leon Wilson's effort was chalked off. Soon after James Noble was put through but he rushed his chance and shot wide when he should have done better and it looked like they would rue their missed chances as Greyfriars were only denied a half time lead by a splendid Lee Abell save just before the whistle. The second period went much the same way as the first until Lee Roberts handled in the area to give Greyfriars the chance to open the scoring from the spot, but their usually reliable and prolific centre forward James Needham unfortunately saw his penalty kick bounce back off the bar. Despite both teams having chances to seal the tie in normal time neither took them and as normal time went into extra time and ultimately penalties it was Bestwood who won the day converting their first 4 kicks to run out 4-2 penalty shoot out winners. Gary Willows scored twice and M Shaw once as New Venture beat Beeston United 3-2. Jamie Louton replied for United. Before we start the division two round up from Sunday, the news that Pride of Erin had resigned from the league certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons this week as far as the league table was concerned. With all their records expunged the table took on a slightly different complexion but as far as the top places go, not much has changed as the top three remain the top three. Leaders Medz Reds opened up an 8 point lead when they thrashed Munich 79 10-1. No scorers were given on the day but coupled with Blacks Head and Newcastle Arms drawing 2-2 courtesy of Gary Williamson and Dean Whiley both scoring 2 goals apiece for their respective sides Medz must surly now be favourites for the title. Cotgrave made it difficult for themselves by conceding five without reply to re-emerging Bulwell Rangers. The Empal enjoyed national radio coverage this week as Radio 5 Live recorded interviews with Clubs, Referees and League Secretary Andy Williams. The piece went out on Wednesday afternoon on the Simon Mayo programme highlighting the role of referees in local football. Rich Chadwick from Ardley Athletic, John Hurst from the referees side and Andy Williams from Inn The Bank and the Empal all featured extolling the virtue of the Empal in general and local football refereeing standards in general. “I was driving home listening to the radio as usual when I heard Nottingham mentioned and football. Imagine my surprise when the Empal League clubs were mentioned and personalities known to all started talking about our League” commented Empal Committee member and Press Officer Adrian Ford. In division 1 it's been a good week for Radcliffe Olympic in their title challenge - a mid week 1-1 draw with Brinsthorpe Rangers was followed up with a hard fought 4-2 win over Nottingham Medics A. Matty Glass opened up the scoring after 21 minutes as his swinging free kick eluded everybody and found its way into the far corner. Lee Potts made it two several minutes later after both sides squandered clear cut chances. Medics pulled one back on the half hour as Besser feathered/sliced in a long shot dropping in over the keeper. Despite constant pressure in the second half Olympic could not nail the match and relied on two breakaway sprints and finishes from Potts completing his hat trick to seal the points. The title challenge Report by John Wheat moves to Tuesday night when leaders Burton Joyce travel to . Radcliffe for potentially a title decider! CALVERTON & ARNOLD DISTRICT POOL LEAGUE VICTORY CLUB DEFEAT SPOT ON B! Divison 1 Victory Club The Eagle Ex Service Club Divison 2 Major Oak The Longbow Calverton M. W.
7-5 Spot On B 4-8 Balfour Club 6-6 Railway Volunteers 8-1 Royal Oak 3-6 Arnold Liberal Club 5-4 Cherry Tree B
In the game of the week, Spot On B's 2009 title winning campaign came off the rails after they were on the receiving end of Victory Club's greatest ever win in their long and distinguished 2 ½ year history. Ladies County wannabe, Janet Street-Porter got the Bee Tree Boys off to the perfect start with a win over ex Hogwarts star pupil, Harry Potter but his lucky work was quickly undone as Spot On hit back through Des Dymock, who on current form must now surely be thinking of trialling for the England Over 50's squad. Further wins by cue chucker Loz and Donut over Janet S-P and Lee Grant in the first pairs and ageing Goth, Malc Grocock against Lee Grant again, saw the recently forensically confirmed Hucknallites into a healthy 3-1 lead. At this point latest Captain of the Month award winner, Chris Winson decided to unleash the first of his big guns, Scott Bates, to take on the once formidable Ashley Radford and there was only ever going to be one winner as Scott beat Donut for the seventh successive time. Spot On did hit back in the next pairs leg but a run of five successive winning legs, culminating in Scott Redfearn's shock defeat of Calverton & Interleague star, Danny Butler, meant that despite Paul Junior's embarrassing performance in the final frame, Victory Club could now claim to be definitely safe from relegation for another season. Balfour Club travelled to The Eagle and soon found themselves 2-0 down but then came the long awaited season debut by 20-break man, Tandoori Taylor, which turned out to be about as distinguished as his dress-sense as he was easily beaten in his pairs and then destroyed by Kevin Bacon in his singles, a feat that was made even worse when he then confidently challenged his victor to a dancing competition whereby he was promptly made to look worse than John Sergeant by the former Footloose actor. Captain Dave Kitching was left to ponder, “Was it worth the £2.50 signing-on fee . . . Indeed! Eagle star new recruit, Steve Hotchkiss, finally managed his first win of the season to get his team back into it but it proved to be more of a consolation as Balfour/Cons Club ran away with it, taking six of the last seven frames. Meanwhile, on the circa 1856 table at the Ex Service Club, the Railway Volunteers' title challenge came to an abrupt end when they could only manage a disappointing draw with the relegation 2nd favourites. On a night of few positives, played on a difficult surface, veteran, Gary Blackshaw finally achieved his season-long ambition of actually winning a game and Ex Service's Dave Wilson kept up his strong challenge for the coveted Bottom of the Averages Title when he managed a perfect impression of his former team mate, Micky Bent, in losing his fourth consecutive game. In Division Two, the top of the table clash turned out to be a one-sided affair as Major Oak kept up their 100% start to the season with an 8-Ady Eames demolition of new boys Royal

The young guns from Hucknall were no match for Harry's chicks and the winning leg was clinched by the still unbeaten, OAP bus-pass holder, Pam Tuner, a win that sees the pensioner up to third in the League Averages and still way clear of ex County star, Matt Coates. The Longbow entertained Arnold Liberal Club and were treated to a good thrashing by their local rivals. Without the axed Keith Simm, rightly dropped after his recent run of poor form, the inexperienced Liberators had a couple of their younger stars to thank, after stunning displays by Alex Hunt and Ash Wilson, well appreciated by both teams alike, made the all-important difference between the two teams. Martin's far more skilful son, Graham Rawson, did however manage to keep up his 100% record. Elsewhere, Cherry Tree B travelled the short trip up Collyer Road to local rivals, Calverton Miners Welfare and received a shock with a last leg defeat when ex England Over 70's star, Robin Rutt easily overcame Andy Behindthebar. Andy's defeat was more than needed as team mate, Dave Lloyd's earlier loss and yet another reverse for Top Club's Dougal McDougal, sees them as real threats to Andy's bid to be the bottom player in the whole League standings. up slot. Victory Club B are however, guaranteed at least runners up. At the other end of the scale the Vic Club A could well scupper everybody with a good leg win that could very easily clinch them the league championship, if they lose?? Well its open season for runners up slot between them and the Commics, Jolly and Queens B. Good luck all and keep control of that cue. Division B will be decided on Cup final night as the Hillside face the final battle away to the Queens A. A promising game with the ultimate prize being the difference between the title and bus fare to the next season as the Jaguar await with baited breath on the sidelines knowing that a wrong win could well topple them of the title shot. The League KO cup takes place at the Inham Nook (9th April) between the Man of Iron, what an achievement for a C division squad, and the Victory Club B. Halfway KO is the same night at the Sherwin Arms between Victory Club A and the Commercial. Go for it guys. SUMMER SEASON now commences on the 23rd April. DIVISION 1 Arnold Civil Defence “A” 5-3 Pegasus Snooker Club BCI Snooker Centre "A" 6-2 Stadium Leisure The Peoples Hall 5-3 Beeston Snooker Hall DIVISION 1 DIVISION 2 BCI 'A' lead the way in the division after a 4-1 win away at Phoenix Cue Sports 7-1 City Hospital LC relegated Masters SC. Substitute Chris Rigby, however, took the first frame for Masters SC by beating Jason Bettridge 69-24 . DIVISION 1 Tony Collins then pulled a frame back for BCI 'A' by beating Arnold Civil Defence 'A' wrapped up this year's championship another substitute, Al, 71-40. Steve Coleman then put BCI 'A' with a good 5-3 victory over their neighbours, Pegasus Snooker ahead with a 71-34 win against Paul Bell before Hanson Stowe Club. At Pegasus, Chris Brooks cleared up to see off a dogged sealed the win by beating Eric Towle 68-24. Sherwood SC 'A' effort from Brian Kinton before Jamie Mathers put Pegasus two moved into second place after a whitewash of Top Spot. Lee up with a comfortable victory against Richard Tooley. Malc Crombie won the first frame in a close match with Mick Walker. Belshaw picked up a crucial frame for Arnold against Steve Lee Crombie having a 7 point win despite being 37 points in the Booth and then he and his partner Brian Kinton ensured the leg lead at one point. Mick Walker pulling the points back, and only would be tied with a tight victory over Mathers and Booth in the losing 56-49. Brendon Murtagh had a 33 point clearance in doubles frame. At Arnold, Chris Winter had to dig deep against beating Dave Milner 62-25. Jason Turner had an easy 90-25 win Pegasus's Mike Langdon by potting a superb long brown and against Chris Needham and Ant Scarborough potted some good blue to win the frame. Winter appeared to be cruising, racing long balls in his 71-25 win against Mick W. into a forty odd point lead but Langdon hit back with a run of 27 DIVISION 2 before giving himself a chance of pinching the frame with a BCI 'B' opened up an 11 point lead at the top of the division clearance. Sadly for Langdon he didn't play the best of although they suffered a rare 2-3 defeat at the hands of positional shots from green to brown and broke down on 13 to Ruddington CC. Neil Elliott lost a close frame to Dave Griffiths, give Winter the chance he needed to secure victory. Arnold's the Ruddington player running out a 50-48 winner. Toby Irons skipper Gary Spencer had too much for Pegasus youngster Eric built up a 68-10 lead against Nick Kirkman only for Kirkman to Towle who has gained some valuable experience from being peg the final score back to 68-50. Jeff Allen beat Dennis Dyer 62- given a good run in the team. arrears to just 13 points after a bright start from Notman and seemed to have his opponent on the ropes. However, a fluked red seemed to kick-start Notman back into action from which he made a telling 22 break to seal the frame and the leg for Arnold. Pegasus did pick up a consolation frame in the doubles and a notable one at that. Castel-Nuovo got the Pegasus pairing off to a flyer starting the frame with a good 25 break before the inevitable fight-back from Winter and Spencer. Finding themselves 28 points behind with only the colours remaining, two successful snookers the second of which led to a free ball reduced the arrears and gave Winter a great chance of pinching the frame. The Pegasus pair breathed a sigh of relief when Winter over-cut the blue and a gleeful Langdon stepped up to sink the blue and pink to give the Pegasus pair a hard fought win. Stadium Leisure went down 2-6 at the hands on BCI Snooker Centre who look odds on to take the runners-up spot. At Stadium, Wayne Martin eased past Pete Gormley, Neil Elliott pinched his frame on the black from Ross Wilkin and Sam Haugh defeated Stadium's 13-year-old debutante Sean Hopkin on the colours. The pairing of Martin and Elliott were then too strong for Gormley and Wilkin. At BCI things were tighter with the two sides fighting out a 2-2 draw. Jason Bettridge beat Daniel Di Folco 62-38, but Tony Collins lost 39-47 to Bob Walker and Steve Coleman lost 42-69 to Steve Butler. BCI avoided what would have been a rare home defeat as Bettridge and Collins defeated Di Folco and Walker 53-28. Beeston Snooker Hall will face Pegasus Snooker Club in the play-off semi-finals after they suffered a narrow 3-5 defeat at the hands of The Peoples Hall. DIVISION 2 City Hospital Leisure Centre were no match for Eastwood's Phoenix Cue Sports as they went down 1-7. At Phoenix Dave Allsopp beat Jordan Parnham 66-36, but Nick Oakley lost to Rob Wallace on the black. Phoenix captain Stephen Lally beat Alan Taylor 57-26 and Anthony Adkin beat Dennis Peet 60-32. At City Hospital, Dave Buckley went down 43-82 to Steve Howard, Russ Kirk lost 42-57 to Ash Goring, Sean Croft was hammered 9-84 by Ryan Baker and Steve Tring narrowly lost out to Gary Birks 45-51.

www.ballsmania.net BEESTON CHILWELL & DISTRICT DARTS - ! LADIES INDEPENDENT: Congratulations go to Birchover Ladies who won the KO Cup 4-2 in a local derby against the Pelican played at the Jaguar. Birchover raced into a 3-0 lead, helped by a 140 from Gail Winkle in Leg 2, despite some terrific play by the Pelican. Sue Shaw then scored another 140 in leg 4, but couldn't prevent Cathy Meehan taking Pelicans first leg. An epic 5th leg then ensued between Lynn Keys and Marie Meehan, which produced a tense finish with both players having double trouble. Pelican finally took the leg to make it 3-2. Leg 6 was the most competitive of the night, with Angie Monaghan and Julie Paulson thrilling the crowd, which included members of league winners Boat & Horses, with their closely run game, which could have gone either way. Angie finally sealed the cup for Birchover. Well done to both sides for producing an exciting and tense finale. (Match Report by Teresa Griffin) MEN'S: Men's Pairs and Singles finals night was held this week with draws starting at all players preliminarily through to the quarter finals. A brilliant night of darts with the 'Max Man' Tony Cox hitting yet another three 180's taking his seasons tally to an impressive 13 maximum scores, well played me old mucker. Tony and his partner, Ralph Brookes (both Queens, nooo.. I meant the team 'Queens Hotel'), eased their way through to the Final despite facing tough opposition along the way. In the section of the pairs, again played with the quality one only expected from finalists, most pairs crashing out on a missed double it was that close despite some games going down two nil. Another good display came from Rob Keys and Richard Bloomfield (Boat & Horses A), who also hit a maximum, despite losing to the quality darts of John Smith and Martin Stout (Pelican). It was to be Richard Attenborough and Mohamed Ali (Birchover) facing Tony Cox & Ralph Brookes. The final was a one way affair despite some great efforts on the part of Birchover lads the Queens pair sailed through to win 3-0. The singles again provided some brilliant entertainment and despite many darts reaching over the 120 plus and 140's the only maximum to come out of the singles was from Dale Gadsby (Queens). Again it was tough opposition for all the players and everyone played fast scoring and entertaining darts (Good job yours truly wasn't playing else we'd still be there now). The final of the match was attained by Russ Chamberlain (Boat & Horses A) and Mick
King (Queens) again it was a one sided affair on the win stakes although, like in the pairs, the games were so close it could have gone either way on some legs. Russ Chamberlain won the match 3-0. Thanks guys for a very entertaining night, made it worth leaving me hospital bed for (only cos they changed the nurse shift and the new one was a bloke) Cheers, good 'arrers.
NOTTINGHAM CENTRAL DARTS -PRIDE OF ERIN TAKE TITLE LADIES: With just two matches left Strelley and Clifton Bridge battle it out for league champions runners up with the title already taken by Pride of Erin. Meanwhile division B sees Nuthall and Park Tavern still battling each other for the title and both face each other this week in the penultimate match. MIXED: After a brilliant season with Cambridge taking the championship and Madhouse runners up and division B won by the Shed and Querneby coming up second. Next Tuesday (7th April) sees the Cup Final between the Querneby and the Sheriffs SC taking place at the Rose & Crown on Derby road. Well played and congrats to winners and runners up of the mixed league. MEN'S: As we approach the league finale this week the scores took on a funny twist this time round making the top two in both divisions A and B untouchable as the Queens take the championship with Beechdale runners up and White Lion take division B with Birchover, after a costly loss by Madhouse take the runners up slot. Madhouse's loss to the King Billy probably cost them the chance of runners up slot as the Birchover are in front on legs, although level on points, to such an extent it makes their position untenable to Madhouse even without Birchover playing their last game. So its congrats to those four and a week on weds (8th Apr) sees the Queens yet again face the Beechdale in the KO cup final at the Birchover SC, should be a good 'un. Cheers Report by Paul Lacey

Hammond gives Rotherham the Vulcan! Rotherham Titans 20 Nottingham Rugby 6 Errie Claassens provided the definitive moment of Rotherham's most accomplished home performance of the season as Nottingham were locked out at Clifton Lane, Rotherham. Claassens tore through the Nottingham cover with trademark skill and apparent ease to put the result beyond doubt after Jon Skurr's try had opened the account. Collecting the ball outside the 22 on the left wing Claassens performed two outrageous sidesteps before cruising home. Two conversions and two penalties from Mike Whitehead completed Rotherham's scoring whilst Nottingham registered just two first-half David Jackson penalties and suffered a serious blow to their hopes of achieving a top three finish. In a solid defensive performance, typified by Irish centre Kevin Maggs, the Titans maintained their intensity from start to finish, nullifying the threat of lively Nottingham backs Tim Molenaar and Jack Cobden. Ryan Burrows was forced out of the action in the second-half after suffering a suspected broken leg, ruling him out for the rest of the season. Back in October Nottingham's Director of Rugby, Glenn Delaney, was announced as coach of the Barbarians and it has been confirmed he will have four familiar faces under his wing for the 82nd Mobbs Memorial game. Nottingham Rugby's Joe Duffey, Craig Hammond, Luke Sherriff and the previously uncapped, David Jackson, have been selected to play against Bedford Blues on the 7th of April at Goldington Road kick off 7:30pm. Duffey, Hammond and Sherriff have all previously played for the world's most prestigious rugby team but it will be Jackson's first appearance for the legendary Barbarians. Jackson, Nottingham's top point scorer this season, will swap the Green and White for the famous Black and White hoops for the first time and he is, understandably, excited and honoured by the call up. The 26 year old full back said; "It was a complete surprise and a shock to get the call from the Barbarians but I couldn't accept the invitation quickly enough. They are the most famous rugby team in the world and I feel very honoured to have been selected for the Mobbs Memorial game. "The Ba Ba's are notorious for their

"League and cup rugby can be relentless week in week out and it will be great to play some adventurous rugby with guys that we will only have met the day before. "You look back at the great Barbarians' games and there are world class players from all over the globe out on the field expressing themselves and enjoying playing rugby with a free licence to entertain. "I am sure I will look back in years to come and remember this as one of the highlights of my career."

reduced the deficit before the first break. Penalty trouble saw a string of powerplays to the opposition and they finally converted the man-advantage (at their eighth attempt) to level the scores at 3-3 which was the way of things going into the final period. A tip in by Brendan Cook and then two sharply taken goals by man of the match Dan Tessier saw a big third period for the GMB Panthers. Coach Neilson was pleased with the result afterwards and when asked by reporters if he would opt to sit back and protect the lead in the second leg in Altrincham he replied, giving little away : "We will have a gameplan for the job in hand!" The GMB Panthers sponsors awards show saw a packed venue witness some of the club's top awards with Kevin Bergin named MVP. Bruce Richardson was also in the thick of things with several accolades. The players presented game worn shirts and warm-up shirts to their Gold and Silver sponsors, film-maker Sam Webster showed another side of his talents with his magic demonstrations and
the club unveiled the shirt designs for next season. Last week the two awards voted for by the fans had gone to Johan Molin (Fans' Player of the Year) and Bruce Richardson (Most Entertaining Player of the Year). At the Awards Show Part Two the presentations saw Bruce in the spotlight again, picking up the GMB Player of the Year, Most Consistent Player, and the Team Spirit award. The Best British Player award went to Matthew Myers, Players' Player of the Year went to Johan Molin and MVP to Kevin Bergin. Top goals and top points were both taken by Brendan Cook. The Playoff shirts for the Cardiff Devils, Manchester Phoenix, Newcastle Vipers and Edinburgh Capitals will go live on the auction website from Monday March 30th with the closing date for bids being Monday April 6th. Two new items from the Finals Weekend to also appear on the on-line auction website will be the pucks from every goal scored in both the semi-finals and the final, signed by the scorer.

(Remember some professionals spend many hours every day doing mind coaching and visual training to become better, that's why they are Elite sportsmen & women). Sports therapy & Mind Performance coaching is used in almost all sports, baseball, basketball, soccer, snooker, golf even Formula One, names such as David Beckham, Ronaldinho, Jimmy White, Bernhard Langer, Lewis Hamilton have specialist coaching. Even the PGA runs courses in Golf Psychology, NLP training, Sports Hypnosis, 'Train the Brain' even 'Chi ' power for golf. These courses cost hundreds of pounds but you will be getting some of the secrets of sporting success for a lot less!! So Let's get started.
Let me introduce myself. Most people know me as 'H' and I am so pleased to be invited to join the Balls mania Team. I guess that my profession could and is called many things but Sports Therapist or Mind Coach is about right. I am a qualified NLP Specialist, performance coach and Clinical Hypnotherapist. My training has been with some of the best in both England and the USA in their field. Dr.Richard Bandler (co-founder of NLP), Paul McKenna the English Hypnotist, Society of Applied Hypnosis director Major Mark Cunningham in Las Vegas, American legend Hypnotherapist Gil Boyne from Los Angeles, Dr John Butler (Medical Trainer with the NHS, Royal College) and Dr. John Edgette Sports Psychologist, Hypnotherapist and author of the bestselling book 'Winning the Mind Game' at Imperial College, London who has worked with the US Olympic Team. I have been a sportsman myself in a variety of sports (mainly football) and have coached and managed both at Olympic & local level to success. I work with
sports people, senior executives, musicians & actors to assess & improve their performance. In a nutshell my aim is to help coach them to greater achievement & enjoyment in their chosen field.
Secret Number 1: Develop a sense of humour! (Emotional Management) This doesn't mean bursting into laughter during your mate's backswing on the first tee, but focusing on enjoying the challenge of a course or the competition! But learn how to smile (or at least not to lose your temper) at any mistakes you or your partner will make during your game! Anger sends powerful emotional chemicals around your body that can take up to 20 minutes to subside, well before your next shot. A laugh or smile changes your body chemistry in a positive way, negating any angry stuff quicker than trying to become calmer, which takes a lot longer. You will find that managing your attitude & emotions better; will improve your focus, concentration & determination on your next shot. Plus you will be pleasanter company to be with and to play against will also improve your popularity & gain respect from your club mates. So when things aren't going well, Smile, Refocus on your next shot because that's the most important one!
I will be writing a series of articles mainly on Golf in conjunction with experienced PGA Professional 'Rev' Paul Wharmsby who is based at The Golf Lounge, Nottingham Road, Mansfield. Together we will aim to give you good advice, providing you with some of the secrets that professionals and Elite sports people use to win!! Most features will be straight to the point, do it, do it well, do it frequently, have a bit of faith & you will see an improvement Accept your disappointments - Celebrate your Successes!! almost instantly! We also want you & ourselves to have fun See you next time! while doing this, so any banter & feedback (as long as it is in For more information on this feature, enquires on good spirit) is welcome. individual coaching, talks & presentations at your group Some of the Secrets we are about to expose are powerful or club. Combat Training Probably one of the toughest workouts Libertys' Gym has to offer. Combat Circuits are aimed to serious trainers who want a rounded routine that improves their overall muscular strength, endurance and aerobic fitness. The class is again taken by Liberty's experienced trainer Pep Padovano who puts everyone through their paces with a variety of old fashioned exercises that work! If its good enough for our fighting soldiers it should be good enough for you and its also a fantastic way of getting fit. Combat Training: Thursday: 19.00-20.00 Only £5 per session (Everybody welcome)
