Introduction Famous quotation: Why does everyone talk about the past? All that counts is tomorrow's game. Best Known For: Being a professional baseball player from Puerto Rico and being really generous. He gave back to his country.

What I find interesting: When he was younger, he used a branch or a piece of wood for a bat. For a ball, he used cans or tied up rags.

3 Key Qualities: 1.resourceful 2.creative 3. Took action

I chose this person because... when I was 6, I got a book about him and found him really interesting.

Overcame a Hardship/Challenge Roberto Clemente was in a car crash. He injured his back. He didn't quit baseball because he was tough.

It must've hurt. He pushed through. I would've quit.

Showed Compassion and Empathy He gave a lot of poor people money. He made a sports center for everyone in Puerto Rico with his own money. He also taught kids about baseball.

It was brave because he could fail to open it, raising everyone's hopes, but he really cared about others.

Took Action Clemente loved to play baseball even though he didn't have the best materials. He still played even though his mom wanted him to be an engineer.

I think that he was following his dreams and passions.

Persevered He never quit baseball and helped people even though people kept yelling at him and sending him hate letters.

If he did not go to the Major Leagues, then he wouldn't have been able to support the people of Puerto Rico.

Impact: How Things are Different Today I think Roberto Clemente influenced other baseball players to help others off the field and on the field.

Demonstrated Bravery He talked in Spanish at the beginning of interviews before he talked in English. He let his parents know that he was a proud Puerto Rican citizen.

That was very brave because people could have insulted him.

Author Talk I’m similar to my Change Maker because...I like sports!

My Change Maker is connected to... Jackie Robinson because they both like baseball and had to deal with hate letters and yelling.

I’m a Change Maker when I...am a good sport when playing baseball, basketball, Monkey in the Middle, etc.
