INTRODUCTION This Experience Book was designed to offer a complementary perspective of the project "Migration and Refugee: Europe's opportunity to build interculturalism" (2016-3ES02-KA105-008750). Specially regarding the training course of the project celebrated in Salamanca (Spain) between 23-29th October, 2017.

!

In this regard, the partners seek to provide information regarding the following key aspects. First, to express the opinions of the participants about what Europe means to them. Second, to offer visual evidence of the activities developed in the framework of the training course. For example, the games play to know each other, the meetings with Salamanca Acoge and ACCEM Salamanca, the visit to the City Council of Salamanca or the Structured Dialogue with the Director of the Youth Institute of Castilla y LeĂłn, Eduardo Carazo.

!

Third, to give visibility to the presence that the project has obtained in the media and local partners. In this sense, the project was followed by Salamanca RTV Al DĂa. The youth workers produced a radio programme that was broadcast by the Radio of the University Salamanca. ACCEM Salamanca, in this line, disseminate our meeting in their own social platforms.

Fourth, to disseminate the proposals designed by the youth workers to improve the current migratory situation. The protagonists of the project expressed, based on their own experience and knowledge, what we (citizens, youth workers, institutions, countries, European Union) can do to palliate or solve the current migratory situation.

!

Fifth, to make known, as a form of transparency and accountability, the evaluation given to the project by the own protagonists. At the end of the training course, the youth workers asses, scoring from 0 to 4, the following aspects: venue, activity programme, activities, coordinators, and final feelings and sensations. Also, in each item the youth workers had the possibility to express their opinions on a qualitative level.

!

We only have, in the first place, to thank all the participants who made this project possible. Because without their trust and commitment, none of this would exist. In second and last place, we really hope that you enjoy this book and find inspiration to design, implement, assess and disseminate your Erasmus+ actions and projects.

!

Yours sincerely,

proposals

proposals to improve the migration & refugee situation 1

We need to promote solidarity and tolerance. Offer a different solution for the trip that the migrants and the refugees have to take to come to Europe. We need to give to asylum seekers and refugees real instruments in order to put them in conditions to build their own new life.

3

2

It is necessary that the political level at the EU be aware about the REAL situation of asylum seekers and those who work for (and with) them. The system has to change.

4

We can promote networks between countries, organisations and citizens. This is a really difficult situation, and we can not do much if we stay alone.

5 Keep on making better our own cities and states in every day life services. That will also help migrant and refugee people.

6

I think that one of the most important things could be to start from education. If people don't care about other people sometimes, it happens because people don’t know and they just think using stereotypes and categories. And when this happens, is easy to don’t be able to imagine ourselves in the place of other people. I think that it could be easier to start with people that are not already structured and unchangeable.

7

Politically speaking, one solution would be not to promote wars (by selling guns) and a change of the political thinking. Also, a bigger relief programme to the countries suffering. The countries receiving the migrants and refugees should be more prepared, as for as infrastructure is concerned and also to be more open-minded towards different people.

8

In order to improve the migration and refugee situation, first of all, people must be more conscious about what 's going on. So start with meetings in schools, in offices, etc., so people can feel that it is something real. Then, of course, when migrants are already in the city, the municipality can organise some "events" to let them integrate in the society, showing their cultures and traditions. Of course, not just the municipality, also a network of organisations that work in the field.

9

I think education is the answer no matter the question. We have to work more on nonformal education, so young people will be more interested in participating in the ongoing dialogue about migration and refugee. Workshops, training courses, youth exchanges, awareness actions could help immensely. There could be also training courses about migration that combine the previous points and arts, so the participants can learn how to use arts as a tool for promoting their message. Campaigns about human rights (which are the human rights, Human Rights Declaration, etc.) and international humanitarian laws could also help. The key to change will be to activate people in participate in the dialogue (about migration and refugee).

COMMENTS Regarding the residence, I have eaten there all week, and not only the food was excellent, but also treatment of the workers has been magnificent. As for the school, the treatment received and everything that was available to the participants, allowed us to work comfortably. !

I really liked the accommodation and especially the food. !

(Regarding the city walk) I wanted to change route sometimes and when going to there (the school) to see very typical (places) of Salamanca. It was finally a nice idea to feel and live the city rhythm. !

The facilities were well organised and always clean. The workers there were smiley and kind.

METHODOLOGIES

COMMENTS I would like to highlight the methodology. I think it was innovative at all times, allowing to deepen the content of the activities. !

The methodology was fantastic and this has created a great group. Dynamics have been used according to each situation in which the group was and the order of the activities was coherent. !

The methodology was fine! It seemed that it has been worked very clearly and orientated for adult learners! !

I think that is actually a broad content, chaotic and vey difficult to organise. So, it feel important to get to know the local actings (Salamanca Acoge, ACCEM, City Hall) and share our experiences. I liked tools and the connection with Europe information. !

The energy games were really energised and they help the group to be united.

ACTIVITIES (6)

COMMENTS I liked the programme a lot. I think it has allowed me to learn about the different entities that work in Salamanca, with what will affect my day-to-day work. Deepen the path that refugees travel, It will influence the improvement of my work. As for the new tools known, I think that they are very useful, in my case for the awareness area in which I work. !

I really like a lot of the activities. The activities were really dynamic and interesting. My favourite was "Discovering tools and good practices", because all the group could share a lot of information. !

The activities have been adequate. I would positively highlight the moments of exchange and creation of ideas. !

All the activities were organised very well. Maybe you need to manage better the times, and also pent more time outdoor!

COMMENTS In the background, now I see in total the planning of the course. I liked the non-formal activities, that it was given finally time and space to speak, dialogue and feedbacks. It was a first step of approach. !

I liked a lot the usual division into different groups (it makes us more united). There was a good balance between outdoor and indoor activities. There was a good balance between the activities that we did alone (as a group) and the activities with others. !

More time for reflect. More flexibility in the schedule. It was really nice that we were on time and that everything was well thought and wellplanned..

COMMENTS I have learned a lot. What I would like to highlight about the coordinator is the capacity to receive new proposals and the speed in carrying them out. I think he has facilitated the "connection" between the people of the group, doing an incredible job to improve the communication (between us and the guests). !

Thank you Alonso for your work. (It) surprised me. You are a hard-worker, serious and sensible persona. Thank you! !

He has managed the group correctly and has transmitted the information at all times. He has also been aware that the whole group was well and that all the people felt integrated. !

Less activities and better prepared. Don’t only let the team decides but coordinate it too.

COMMENTS You were a good facilitator and very patient. !

First, I felt difficulties due to the stereotype of a young worker and felt that I wasted time in this course. I think I mentioned this on Monday. On Tuesday, when I got in touch with the group, all the difficulties were over, because I felt like one more member. You helped in the facilitation a lot, contributed with your energy, and innate patience and the sense of security that you actually have! !

Alonso was serious and punctual, but he was also funny and pleasant. The right balance for a professional coordinator, and a really nice person. !

A lot of patience and well-organised. !

Jorge took a lot of pictures!

COMMENTS I think he has been a great support and that at all times he has been attentive to the needs of the group. !

Thank you Jorge for your work. You were a really hard-worker. You are patient and kind person. Thank you! !

He has been attentive to the group. !

I had small difficulty in understanding your Spanish. I felt really welcome when he started narrating me the history of the city and showing me the view. I felt comfortable and needed with the photographs. I can't wait to see the photographic "diary" of the days. Always present and outside for dinners. I liked also that you answered my questions about politics.

COMMENTS It has been an interesting project, since I think that I have not only created a network (of work) at an international level, but also at local level. Both personal and professionally, had an impact on me. !

I really love this project. It was really interesting and dynamic. I really want to thank Alonso and Jorge for their daily work with us. I feel more prepared on the subject thanks to the group. !

Next time I'd like to have more time for some activities. Thank you so much for everything. I really appreciated the activities and the energy of the group. !

Great training course!

COMMENTS Although it was a nice experience, should be more careful at the selection of the participants. It seems there was a difference of skills, age, background and interests. !

I thank you because you gave me the chance to remember how fundamental coexistence is to be part of working groups. Spending time away of difficulties, work and visit/meet new people. It is a beautiful gift! Thank you! !

In the end, we created a really good group. The Spanish girls (plus Alonso) were really welcoming and they make me feel welcome in this city.

COMMENTS It would be really nice if all the speakers/guests we had, were able to speak in English, because that would have made us to pay more attention and be more into the subjects. All in all, everything was well-organised and executed (from the tickets to the daily programme). The food was really nice and our photographer/guide/history teacher (Jorge) was perfect. Our trainer had loads of patience and understanding. Thank you!
