We held a Halloween Colouring Contest again this year, as we have for the past several years. Last week our normally business-like reception area was turned into a children’s playhouse with the walls literally covered with dynamic and extravagant pictures of a pumpkin; colored by children eagerly looking forward to Halloween parties and the traditional trick or treating that was sure to bring every single child a treasure trove of the most interesting and curious candies and treats imaginable. Every child that brought in their carefully crafted entry form got to select a treat from a large wicker basket. It was sort of a little preview of the exciting day to come. The pictures represented just about every available type of artwork that was possible with a set of well-sharpened crayons. Some were meticulously colored within the lines. Some were very eclectic with different coloring schemes that reminded me of the psychedelic sixties. Some, that can only be described as “nouveau arte” with little concern for staying within the lines and choosing esthetically pleasing colors, but, which showed the artist’s true excitement and passion for the upcoming celebration. I spent a lot of time leaning over the counter staring down at a very little person reaching up to turn in the results of his or her fertile imagination and staring with wonder at the basket of goodies from which they were allowed to take a treat. The whole thing was organized by our office administrator, Tamara, and, as she has done in the past, made the whole contest a joyful time for all. You would think that the kids would have had the most fun of all but I’m not sure of that. I think Tamara, and I, and all of our realtors had more fun with it than anyone. It was just a sheer delight for all of us to see and as the week went by I think that we got more excited than the kids. I want to say thank you to all the kids who entered our contest and thank you to all the parents and guardians who allowed and encouraged the kids to enter. You all made our contest so special.

This week we cleaned up the reception area and returned it to its proper business-like atmosphere and we returned to the business of our business. But I miss last week.
