You might have to shut off a room or two for some time, like the kitchen or the bathroom, so you will want to plan ahead and be prepared. To get started with individual projects, make your list and check it twice before heading to the local hardware or home supply store. If you have several projects in mind, think about what you will need for all of those. If you can afford it, you can actually save money

by buying in bulk. A notebook with products, prices and availability will serve you well as you move through your project. You can also use this notebook to take down advice you get from experts or sketch out what you are looking for at the store. You may be able to do a series of smaller jobs yourself, but you may have to hire a general contractor for larger jobs. Doing the job yourself can save you money in the long run, but it might lead you to more hassles. Contractors are more able to deal with problems that might be unforeseen.
