1 – Suspended light fixtures As lighting is decisive in creating atmosphere, the entrance hall is a good place to start. A soft effect can be very agreeable, especially if it comes from a filtered source of light diffused by a hanging fixture.

Lighting is also an important element in creating the desired effect. Add lamps at short distances along the hallway to give a soft, yellow lighting. For a more dramatic effect create a low shelf, near the base of the wall, on which lights can be positioned projecting upwards to cut the space, creating intense pools of light right along the passageway.

2 – Wall fixtures Wall fixtures are an interesting option and they are less cumbersome than hanging fixtures. Lying flat against the wall, they give the impression of a mural and become a decorative element, lighting the top of the wall as well as the floor. There is a huge range of shapes to choose from: semi-circular, rectangular, sconces... You can even paint some wall lights the same colour as the wall.

A chair, placed at an angle between the first two doors could be the finishing touch and add even more character to what was once a boring hallway.
