Splashes of radiant orchid, faux fur and wallpaper are all on the agenda, though perhaps not all at once, for the Home Expo at West Shore rec. Danisha Drury and Amy McGeachy, known individually for their design talents and together for appearances on CHEK TV’s Design District, will make homeowners feel safe delving into these trends of 2014. The duo hosts Kitchen and Bathroom Design and Design Trends for 2014 talks during this year’s April 25 to 27 Home Expo. “We’ll talk a lot about design in general and accessories,” says McGeachy of the second presentation. “That’s where people really spend the majority of their money in renovations. It has to be functional and have good form, but then you do want it to look nice and have style.” Wallpaper is a top trend they’ll hit on during presentations at the show. “Some of the paper they’re making now, it’s so beautiful, easy to apply and easy to remove and they’re gorgeous. I don’t see it ever going back out of style again. It’s come way too far. It’s not your grandmother’s wallpaper,” Drury says. Hues come in the deepest plums and teals to gold banana leaf, with thick sound proofing material and murals that make you think you’re in Marrakech, or on Madison Avenue in New York. The hottest colour this year is radiant orchid (a fuchsia). “We’ll be giving people tips and ideas for incorporating that colour without going out and buying a radiant orchid couch. My take is choose trends that work for you, not just choosing it because it’s a trend.” These design professionals will outline ways to select accessories that can be easily remedied if need be. “Try it out and seeing how it works for you,” McGeachy says. “A lot of people have to think resale as well. Things that are your decor, that’s fine if it appeals to the masses.”
