STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS: Aug 2011 - May 2012 Being citizens of a democratic country, our children need to understand the nature of the election process at an early age. This can only be achieved if they are allowed to voice their opinions, select a leader of their own choice and learn with experience if their leader of choice has delivered what was

promised. This also gives the nominees a sense of responsibility and integrity. Like every year, the Students’ Council for the session 2011-2012, was elected with much enthusiasm and fervour by the students, with House Teachers guiding them at every step, en-

suring that the election process was carried out smoothly and swiftly. The new Students’ Council was successfully elected on 29th October 2011.

The children visited Darul-Sakoon to share their love and concern with those living there. May Allah shower all our children with his blessings!

OBSERVATIONS FROM INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER STUDIES From feedback given to us about our students who leave to join reputable institutions of higher learning in Pakistan, we have learnt that they need students who have the ability to analyze and express themselves and not those who embark on early specialization with limited breadth. They welcome students who have well-rounded education, knowledge and understanding of subjects like World History, Sociology, English Literature, Environmental Management and Current Affairs. Also, study of Mathematics and the ability to express themselves in good written and spoken English. Our students seem to stress on all the subjects but take the languages (English and Urdu) lightly. At Cambridge Branch, PECHS, we expect a high level of English and Urdu to be taught and learned. For this reason, both languages are taught as ‘First Language. Kindly encourage your child to read and speak both languages so that fluency is developed. Do feel free to visit and discuss the available options with me (with an appointment).
