Students keep the BSS banner flying ! It
was a moment of deep pleasure when BSS Steel Town once again achieved cent per cent successful result in the 2008-2009 Karachi Board Matriculation Examination with the all of the 34 students receiving certificates and medals. We have completed yet another eventful and constructive academic year. There is profound truth in what the renowned thinker scholar Edward de Bono remarked once and I quote “There is no doubt that creativity is the most important human resources of all. Without creativity, there would be no progress,
and we would be forever repeating the same patterns”. In addition to the academics ,our students have participated in various competitions on an intra school, inter-school as well as national level events and achieved success in many of their efforts. I would also like to express my gratitude to all the parents for their cooperation and support I have received throughout the year. Regards, Mrs.Ghazala Zubair Headmistress.

News & Events Annual Sports Day: Sports are important for the physical, mental and social development of children. On February 19, 2010, we organized Annual Sports for Classes I to Class VIII in our school premises. Students presented a walk past, followed by a colorful and wellpresented physical display and track events. The Chief Guest, Mr.Zulfiqar, Table tennis Coach of BSS gave away the prizes to the proud winners. I thank you all for the encouraging words, praise and appreciation. I would also like to acknowledge the extreme, hard work of the Physical Trainers, Mr. Anwer Malik and Ms. Kausar Hyderi, and the effort and cooperation of the teachers, Senior Mistress Mrs. Farrukh Tariq, the support staff and the office staff.

Quiz Competition: A quiz competition was held on April 8th, 2010 in which Classes VI to VIII participated. It was nice to see our students answering confidently to the various questions being asked. Prize winners were: 1st Prize awarded to Team I: Fatima Zehra VIII/A, Damini Wasdev VII/B, Zoha Khan and Vaneeza Sohail VI/A&B. 2nd Prize awarded to Team J: Raja Basit VIII/A, Ammar Sadiq VII/B, Abdul Rafey Abid and Jibran Shakeel VI/A. 3rd prize awarded to Team G: Emad Ashraf VIII/A, Saad Bin Musharrf VII/B, Mubeen-ul-Haq and Umer Khan VI/A.
Annual Musical Concert: The Kindergarten Section organized a musical concert on April 9th, 2010, in the school premises. The musical programme was a well – coordinated effort of the school choir and the young artists, who displayed their performing and acting skills with much poise, grace and confidence .The children received a great amount of applause and encouragement from the mothers who were invited. I would like to thank the entire staff for making the event a success, with a special mention of Mrs. Farrukh Tariq, Senior Mistress, for the guidance and support, which she provided to the staff and students.

Upcoming Events
The Annual Graduation Ceremony for the outgoing Matriculation Class of 2008 – 2009 was held at Pakistan Steel Officers’ Mess on 23rd January 2010.Dr.Shahid Rasool, Consultant Pakistan Steel Hospital and Aga Khan Hospital graced the occasion as the chief guest .The function was well attended by students, parents and alumni. We also invited Captain Irfan Saleem, Dr.Shahzad Naseem and Mrs.Sadia Qasim, former students of our school to share their memories and experiences at BSS.In their speeches, they highlighted the contribution of BSS Steel Town, and acknowledged the fact that their alma mater was behind their success. Captain Irfan Saleem, Dr.Shahzad Naseem, Mrs.Sadia Qasim, are now also our valuable parents as their children are studying in our school and we feel honored that they chose their alma mater for their children. Out of 34 students who appeared, 24 secured A-1 grade and were awarded gold medals and certificates, while 8 secured A grade and were awarded silver medals and certificates and 2 secured B grade who were given bronze medals and certificates .

Technology Technology Open Day: Technology Open Day was also held on April 10th, 2010 for Classes III-VIII. Students displayed their work on the computers for the parents.
English Debate Competion: An Inter Class English Debate Competition was held on April 7, 2010. Students from Classes V to VIII participated. All the participants spoke confidently and put up very interesting arguments for the topics given to them. Prize winners were: Class V: Amash Aziz 1st Alishba Waheed 2nd Abdul Monum 3rd

WWF Spellathon:
A party was organized by Class IX to bid farewell to the outgoing students of Class X on February 6, 2010 at the Arabian Sea Country Club. The students and teachers enjoyed the songs and skits, not to forget the hilarious titles that they received. I wish the outgoing students all the best for their future and hope they achieve every success in life.
An Elocution Contest was organized on April 6, 2010. Students of Classes I to IV participated .The purpose of such activities is to develop confidence, clarity of speech, expression and pronunciation in the youngsters. Children recited their well-selected poems with great interest and enthusiasm.
Students from Classes I to IX participated in a Spellathon organized by the World Wildlife Federation on April 26, 2010. This event is held by the WWF to raise funds for the conservation of wildlife .The students actively took part and learned to spell words correctly. It also created awareness in them for protecting the environment.
