The session has finally come to an end. We hope and pray that the new session begins with peace and prosperity. During the term, apart from academics, our students have participated in various competitions on an intra school as well as interschool level and achieved success in many of their efforts. Annual Musical Concert The Annual Concert 2011 was held on Friday, December 16, 2011. The musical programme was a well coordinated effort of the young artists who displayed their performing and acting skills with poise, grace and confidence. The children received a resounding applause as encouragement from the audience. I would like to thank the entire staff for making the event a success, with a special mention of Mrs. Farrukh Tariq (Senior Mistress) and Mr. Waseem Emmanual, the music teacher.

Finding the Right Path Two professors from the Textile Institute of Pakistan (TIP); Mr. Danish Ahmed, Head of the Textile Design Department and Assistant Professor Mrs. Saira Danish Ahmed were invited for a career counseling session with the students of Classes IX and X. They briefed the students on the different courses offered at TIP and the options of different career paths. Mr. Danish won a scholarship to study in Australia and they shared their experiences and told their success story regarding their studies in Pakistan as well as at the University of New South Wales, Australia.

Patriotic Zeal Pakistan Day was celebrated with great zeal and zest. It was organized by the librarian Mrs. Qaisra Asif. Students participated in different activities on March 22, 2012. Students of classes VI-VIII participated in the quiz and essay writing competition. There was an assembly presentation on March 22, 2102. Students showed their patriotism by singing national songs and wearing provincial dresses. In the end the winners of the quiz and essay writing competition were given certificates.

The Beaconhouse Newsletter - May 2012 Annual Sports Gala Sports are important for the physical, mental and social development of children. On February 02, 2012, we organized an Annual Sports Day for Classes III to VIII in our school premises. Students presented a walk past, followed by a colourful and well presented physical display and track events. I thank you all for the encouraging words, praise and appreciation. I would also like to acknowledge the extreme hard work of the physical trainers, Mr. Anwar Malik and Ms. Kauser Hyderi, and effort and cooperation of the teachers, Senior Mistress Mrs. Farrukh Tariq, the support staff and the office staff. GrandparentsÂ’ Day GrandparentsÂ’ Day was arranged for Pre-Nursery children on March 30, 2012. Grandparents were invited to visit the Classes of Pre-Nursery. The children greeted them. The grandparents shared their life experiences with the children. The children enjoyed talking with the grandparents and learnt some advice and tips on life. There is a lot they can learn from the older generation. Spending time with grandparents teaches children the importance and value of bonding with the family.

Our school blog Publishing club, initiated by the ETAC Ambassador, designed a blog for our school http://beaconhousesteeltown.wordpress.com/; the students can upload and share their work on this platform. In this blog students can publish their personal stories, poetry and views and you can see the latest announcements.

Farewell to Class X A party was organized by Class IX to bid farewell to the outgoing students of Class X on March 24, 2012 at Arabian Sea Country Club. The students and teachers enjoyed the songs and skits, not to forget the hilarious titles that they received. Healthier teeth and brighter smiles The earlier good dental hygiene habits are established, the greater the impact. In accordance with their curriculum, an activity was arranged for the Pre-Nursery students. The children visited the Dental Clinic organized in the school on March 20, 2012. The dentist checked the teeth of the children and gave them instructions for brushing teeth and tips for healthy teeth. The dentist distributed apples and a cut out of a healthy tooth as a momento to each child. At the end of the day children had bright smiles on their faces.

Urdu Debate The Urdu Debate Competition was held on November 28, 2011 for Classes V- VIII. It was organized by Mrs. Shamim Fatima and Mrs. Zahida Tanveer from the Urdu Department. Baria Shafique is a brilliant student and has won many prizes in several Beaconhouse School competitions like: English/Urdu Debates, Elocution Contest, Quiz Competition, Essay / Book review writing. She has been blessed with the knowledge and potential to excel and live up to her dreams.

Cleanliness is half of faith The students of Classes VI A and B organized the Cleanliness Day on February 13, 2012. This was related to their lesson Cleanliness. The students wore colourful strips and badges and went to each and every class and made the students aware of how they should keep themselves and their environment clean. The students of class VI personally took part in cleaning the school.

WWF Spellathon Students from Classes I to VIII participated in a Spellathon organized by the World Wildlife Federation on April 17, 2012. This event is held by the WWF to raise funds for the conservation of wildlife. The students actively took part and learnt to spell words correctly. It also created awareness in them for protecting the environment. It was an excellent learning experience for us. Due to it not only our vocabulary but our general knowledge has also increased a lot. The Beaconhouse Newsletter - May 2012 English Debate for Classes IV and V To speak fluently, eloquently and conveniently in front of an audience is both an art and a skill that flourishes through training and guidance. Keeping this in view, an English Debate Competition was held on May 4, 2012 for Classes IV and V. It was organized by Mrs. Samina Naz from the English Department. Students gave lucid arguments and spoke expressively. The topic for the debate was: “The internet has made us less readers and more browsers.” The winners are:

Parent / Teacher Meeting The second Parent/ Teacher Meeting was held on Saturday, April 07, 2012 to discuss the progress of the students. The turn out was high. Parents put forward very valuable suggestions, which will certainly prove productive for the school improvement programme. A book fair was also organized on the same day.

Voice Transmission Beaconhouse aims to enable its students to become confident speakers and to empower them by giving them opportunities to create and broadcast for a real audience. The Technology Club was initiated by the ETAC Ambassador Mrs. Samina Naz in which a radio programme is run by Class V students. Students' podcasts are uploaded on http://samina.podbean.com/ Story telling stimulates creative thinking, and clarifies values and inspires actions. Literary Club adds another taste to its podcast. They started recording stories with expression, intonation and fluency. The Beaconhouse Newsletter - May 2012 Quiz Competition May 4, 2012 was certainly an important occasion for all those who were eagerly waiting to participate in the Quiz Competition 2012. The Quiz Competition, which was conducted in four rounds was exciting. The participants, were students of Classes VI, VII and VIII, were quizzed on general knowledge. It was a neck to neck competition between the winners and the runners up. All the winners were happy on their achievement. We are extremely happy and excited that we have won in front of the crowd which largely comprised our school mates , Maheen Tariq, the 1st position holder said!

The uses and sources of water Fun With Water activity was held on Friday, April 27, 2012 in which Classes Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Kindergarten participated. The objective behind this activity was to create awareness amongst the children about the uses and sources of water. The children did activities according to their levels e.g.: Blowing bubbles Swimming Making squash Playing with water guns.

Educational Trips Students of Classes VII and VIII visited Pakistan Steel Cadet College which was an informative experience. The students were taken around the college and shown different faculties. Students of Classes IX and X visited Textile Institute of Pakistan where they visited different departments and were briefed on various subjects which were being offered in the institute.
