The First Word

It was a moment of great pleasure when BSS Steel Town once again achieved cent per cent successful results in the 2011-2012 Karachi Board Matriculation Examination with all 23 students receiving certificates and medals.

In addition to the academics, our students have participated in various competitions on an intra school, inter-school as well as national and international levels and achieved success in many. I would like to express my gratitude to all the parents for their cooperation and support throughout the term.

The Beaconhouse Newsletter - December 2012 NEWS AND EVENTS Annual Graduation Ceremony

The Annual Graduation Ceremony for the outgoing Matriculation Class of 2011 2012 was held at Pakistan Steel Officers Mess on 10th October 2012.

Mrs.Nasreen Shahbaz, Incharge Education Department, Pakistan Steel Mill graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The function was well attended by students and parents. Mrs. Farah Durrani, Academic Manager and Ms.Mahrukh Anwar, Early Years Coordinator were also present on the occasion.

The highest percentage was secured by Maham Saeed who got 90% in Karachi Board.

Out of 23 students who appeared, 12 secured an

A-1 grade and were awarded gold medals and certificates. 9 secured an A grade and were given silver medals and certificates while 2 secured a B grade and were presented with bronze medals and certificates.

One of our former students, Dr.Hira Saleem, a graduate from Dow University of Health Sciences, who is doing her FCPS, shared her memories and experience at BSS. The chief guest, Mrs.Nasreen Shahbaz, while addressing the audience, congratulated the graduating students and advised them to continue working hard for a strong Pakistan.

Students Council Elections

Elections for the Students Council were held on 12th September, 2012.Students of Classes IV to X used their rights to vote to elect a 30 members council.

Ammar Sadiq of Class X was elected as the Head Boy and Sara Ahmed Khan was elected as the Head Girl. At the oath taking ceremony, the council members pledged to carry out their duties with loyalty and honesty.

Independence Day Celebrations

Independence Day was celebrated at Steel Town Branch on 13th August, 2012. Students talked about the importance of independence in the morning assembly. The school choir sang national songs and the whole school joined in the celebrations.

Kindergarten students celebrated Independence Day by making the national flag and doing face painting.

An Eid Milan party was held on 7th September 2012. Students came to school in colorful dresses. They shared food items and played musical chairs and had a singing competition. The Headmistress, Mrs.Ghazala Zubair also visited all the classes.

Brighter, Healthier Smiles

Teaching young children about dental hygiene and care can instill in them healthy oral hygiene habits for the rest of their lives. In line with the BSS Class III curriculum, an activity was arranged for students at the Steel Town Branch where two dental surgeons, Dr Maleeha Hashmi and Dr Madeeha Hashmi, visited the school on September 28, 2012 and had a great session with the students to share information about teeth and how to take care of them.

They used model dentures to show the children how to clean their teeth properly. They were also briefed about good and bad foods which would affect their teeth. Students actively participated in the quiz session that followed.

Parent / Teacher Meeting The first Parent / Teacher meeting was held on 13th October, 2012 to discuss the progress of the students.

The turn out was high .Parents put forward very valuable suggestions, which will certainly prove productive for the school improvement program.

8th International Kangaroo Mathematics Competition was conducted on 13th March, 2012. A total number of 100 students took part in the competition. Danyal Ahmed of Class V was awarded a bronze medal. Þ English Debates Þ Annual Sports Day Þ Quiz Competition Þ Technology Day Þ Art Exhibition Þ Annual Prize Distribution

Urdu Debates Debate competitions are a regular feature of BSS Steel Town Branch. Keeping this in view, an Urdu debate competition was held on October 2, 2012 for Classes V- X. It was organized by Mrs.Shamim Fatima and Mrs.Zahida Tanveer from Urdu Department.

Students spoke fluently, eloquently and conveniently to grab the audience s attention.

Syed Usman Ahmed got the title of the Best Debater of Steel Town.

The Beaconhouse Newsletter - December 2012 Intra-Region Athletics O-Level (boys and girls) Championship Students from classes VII-X from Steel Town Branch participated in Intra-Region Athletics 2012-2013 held at PSB Coaching Centre, Karachi on October 20, 2012. They took part in different events and secured positions and received the trophy.

Library Week Library week was celebrated for all classes from 15th October to 19th October 2012. Students actively took part in writing book reviews, drawings and role play in the assembly with colorful costumes depicting different characters.

Elocution Contest An elocution contest was organized on 1st October ,2012. Students of Classes I to IV participated with full confidence and clarity of speech. Children recited their well-selected poems with great interest and enthusiasm.

Global Dignity Day was celebrated in Steel Town Branch on October, 17, 2012. Students spoke about global dignity and students shared their thoughts in the assembly and in their classes. They participated in different activities to show respect and regard for HUMANS globally.

Students from different classes wrote their own stories of DIGNITY on their school blog. www.beaconhousesteeltown.wordpress.com/2012/09/08/global-dignity-day/ Pre-Nursery and Nursery students made bouquets and cards for the support staff to say thank you for helping them.

Nursery and KG sections formed the word DIGNITY beautifully. Students from different sections watched them forming the word DIGNITY .

The Beaconhouse Newsletter - December 2012 Children of Class IV visited AGHOSH SPECIAL CHILDREN SCHOOL. They became aware that physically or mentally challenged children have a right to proper care and physical therapy and to such education, training, rehabilitation and guidance as it will enable them to develop their abilities and reach their maximum potential.

They wrote their own stories of DIGNITY and some of them shared their stories in the morning assembly also.

Class IV students of Beaconhouse School System Steel Town sang songs to bring smiles on the faces of special students of Aghosh Special Children School.
