Poetry of the week Determination Those times I cried in my pillow, And took no advice, The time of my gloom and dark, When I hid in my own disguise, Away from all the cheers, And caught up in my own fears, The time when I learned how to fly, A big world laid in front of me as I proceeded towards the light, My new wings fragile and small in the huge empty sky, A mere stranger to this all I was, But something kept me flying, A determination, a desire, To rise above all the others, And to show my might, To the huge huge empty sky.

Good times I stood on the edge of the balcony one day “May I think of the good times? Yes, I may!” And I let the stream of memories flood my mind, All those moments that I had left behind, The innocence of ages, minds free of cages, That time I got braces, and my Barbie pencil cases, And oh! The language classes, And the teacher’s suspicious glances, Sitting on the spring grass, chatting away, All colors merry, without any grey, The pranks I pulled, the jokes I made, All that mischief, for which I later paid, My friends, my time, and now I recollect, “I’d forget it all”, I used to suspect, But I stood on the edge of the balcony one day, “May I think of the good times? Yes, I may!” Misha Jehangir IX-C
Zero became a hero Phil was a teenage boy. He was not popular or very smart. One fine warm mid-day, he was lying on his bed, thinking until the warm breeze made him drowsy and fall asleep. When he woke up, he noticed that the temperature of the room had lowered down. Was the weather better? It could not be! He looked out the window and saw everything just as it had been half an hour ago. The air conditioner was not turned on either. He took a deep breath. That was when he realized that fog seemed to be coming out of his mouth. He was surely hallucinating! He decided to drink some water but just as he reached the glass, the water in it froze. Now this was weird! He picked up the glass, went down almost tripping over the last step to his mom and dad. He told them everything and showed them the glass. His mom and dad seemed strangely interested. His dad revealed a hidden mystery. He had never known this piece of information before…he had ‘‘super powers’’ and his parents had known it all along. He was one of the descendants of the freeze ray powered super heroes. He took some time to take those words in.And now that he knew everything about his powers, his dad started to train him to use those powers against the forces of evil. They trained
harder and harder every day. Phil really had the hang of it now. His dad used to go to missions everyday. One day he fell ill and he got a mission from the headquarters, and this to his horror was not the usual robbery kind either, A METEOR WAS ABOUT TO CRASH INTO THE EARTH. Phil knew it was impossible for his dad to fulfill the mission so he sent out for it himself. He stood facing the sky, waiting until he could see a big red ball glowing, coming towards him. He could not really feel that hot himself, as his powers were acting upon him. All he knew was he had his hands stretched out and all so sudden he had blown thin, wispy cool air into the sky at the ball. He put all the force he had and could feel fire vs. ice battling each other, as if wanting to take each other down that very moment. The meteor was coming nearer, but somehow, it was all working out, he could see himself almost conquering the hot ball and with a final blast, the whole ball burst into an infusion of shimmering gold lights. It was over. He had done it! A sudden feeling, which was more like a proud sensation swept him as he heard the distant jeering of the crowd. All was well! Eiman Akram IX-C
