Message from the Principal Dear Parents and Students, Greetings and welcome to what promises to be an awesome summer! The school year 2020 – 2021 has been a challenging one, but as we wrap up the year, I hope we can all agree on how amazingly resilient our students, teachers, families and community members are! I am so proud of our student body and faculty members for all of their hard work and well-earned successes. On behalf of all of us at Beaconhouse Valencia Town Campus, I would like to thank everyone for their patience, enthusiasm and support. luck as they take on new challenges in life. Together, we have been able to ensure that students had the opportunity for uninterrupted learning, be it face-to-face or online. This was complemented by a range of participative and competitive activities. Together, we made the most out of the year!

BREAKFAST WITH MUM
CRAZY HAIR DAY
It was the best time of the year! Time to drink a cup of hot chocolate, eat assorted dry fruits, wear stylish jackets, coats & gloves, and sit by the fire to share stories amongst family & friends. Students of Pre-Nursery celebrated the Winter Fiesta and shared tales of winter and ways to keep themselves protected during the cold winters.
The most exciting session of the season, where the students of the Pre-Nursery and their amazing Mothers celebrated 'Breakfast with Mum'. They talked about their time together during breakfast and the start of their day. The online activity brought to the forefront the candid, caring, and loving aspect of the students and their mother’s relationship.
RAMADAN HUMARA To commemorate the holy month of Ramadan, Nursery students took part in the activity to acknowledge the importance of fasting through various learning experiences and activities. Students made charity jars, decorated their homes for Ramadan, shared their favourite iftar snacks, recited hamds and naats, and became little helpers for their mothers during sehri and iftar.
WINTER FIESTA
Pre-Nursery students and teachers participated enthusiastically in the festive crazy hair day activity. Taking the idea of having fun around different, funny & crazy hairstyles and aligning it with the letter 'Cc', students displayed creativity and initiative in coming up with unique hair-dos.
ON THE GO
DRESS FOR A MESS
The 'On The Go' activity was based on the theme 'Transport' and offered a variety of exciting activities for a rich experiential learning experience during faceto-face and online sessions. Students contributed to the activity by bringing in their favourite transport toys for show and tell. This exhilarating and wondrous look at the world of transport turned out to be an excellent learning experience! A true artist is not one who is inspired, but one who inspires others- Salvador Dali 'Dress for a Mess' event was o rg a n i s e d b y N u r s e r y f o r students and their mothers. This art event allowed the mothers and our young artists to play with the colours of their imagination and bring forth their hidden artistic talents!

COLOUR DAYS The students of Pre-Nursery celebrated various colour days to learn more about these colours. The wholesome and enthusiastic participation by the students made these school days very festive. Students talked about the presence and importance of these colours in our surroundings.
COSTUME PARTY The Costume Party for Nursery students brought out the fashionistas among our young enthusiasts. Students dressed according to the preferred fashion styles of their favourite characters and brought them to life through their costumes and dresses. Their excitement was indeed worthwhile as they talked about their favourite characters, animals, and professions with their class.
MATHOLIA
PET DAY One of the most awaited preschool activities, Pet Day put a spotlight on the joy pets bring to their owners' lives. This activity also focused on numerous pets waiting in animal shelters to find their forever homes. Students learnt about nurturing and caring for pet animals, and the responsibilities involved in taking care of pets, including feeding them, giving them fresh water, and cleaning up after them.
A play-based pedagogical approach while teaching conceptual mathematics is of utmost importance. In this regard, a fun-filled mathematical event full of festivity and learning was organised. The activities included number line addition and subtraction, telling time using an analogue clock, division with the concept of sharing items and an amazing maze hunt. Digital mathematical games were introduced to enhance the cognitive abilities and Mental Math skills of students.
LET’S BUILD WITH DIGRAPHS Students of Nursery enjoyed a series of exciting reading activities through the reading fair 'Let's Build with Digraphs'. The purpose of this event was to encourage students to practice and understand the use of digraphs in reading. To do so, the students blended words based on all the digraphs they have learned and received takeaways for their efforts.
STARRY NIGHT Our Kindergartners had a lot of fun during the Starry Night activity related to their co-reader “Oliver, who would not sleep". They dressed up in their night suits and followed the bedtime routine. They drank milk, brushed their teeth and then fell asleep while cuddling their favourite stuffed toys. Students thoroughly enjoyed the pyjama party.

POLLUTION AWARENESS Students of Classes 1 & 2 designed posters that portrayed the significance of a pollutionfree environment. The posters showed students' creativity and artistic capabilities.
PAKISTAN DAY 23rd March is celebrated as Pakistan Day throughout the country with great passion. This day recalls the accomplishments and untiring efforts of our forefathers and leaders for passing the Pakistan Resolution on March 23, 1940, because of which today we are living in an independent and sovereign country. Students of Classes 1 & 2 participated in different activities to commemorate Pakistan Day.
PUTLI TAMASHA Children love puppets! The putli tamasha conducted for Class 1 students was one of their favourite activities this term. Puppets can motivate and support children in communication and interaction. Acting out a story with puppets captures children's attention in order to help them focus on the story. Students showed great interest and enthusiasm while watching the Putli Tamasha.
RURAL & URBAN SETTLEMENTS Students of Class 2 crafted attractive models depicting rural and urban settlements as part of their Social Studies project work. Their projects depicted the differences between the lifestyles of different communities living in rural and urban settlements.

BUDDING SCIENTISTS KUTUB BEENI Learning to read is about listening and understanding as well as working out what is printed on the page. Through hearing stories, children are exposed to a wide range of words. This helps them build their own vocabulary and improve their understanding when they listen, which is vital as they start to read. To foster their love for reading and enhance their reading skills, Urdu Kutab Beeni was organized for the students of Classes 1 & 2.
Our young scientists from Class 2 experimented with different materials around them to find out more about their ability to absorb. Upon research, they were able to identify materials to be characterized as either absorbent or non-absorbent. These budding scientists are surely very promising.
THE IMPORTANCE OF COVID SOPs
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES PRJECTS
One of the most distinctive features of this school year was the focus on creating awareness about Covid SOPs, essential for the health and safety of our students. The Principal, Ms Semee Shafqat discussed these protocols during online orientation sessions. Students & teachers continued to demonstrate a high level of responsibility in compliance with safety protocols all year. They came to school wearing masks and followed all SOPs diligently, including waiting patiently in queues, maintaining distance, temperature checks, and hand sanitiser usage.
Class 5 students demonstrated the recycling of water in and out of the atmosphere in the water cycle through their science projects. Class 3 students made 3D models showing urban settlements as their social studies class project.
VALENCIA TOWN’S URBAN FOREST 11C Students participated in the afforestation project by Chhaon Foundation. The project included planting Valencia's very own Urban Forest through the Japanese Miyawaki plantation technique. Our students & faculty planted their individual trees, making a positive contribution to the environment.
BEACONHOUSE BIRTHDAY
GLOBAL DIGNITY DAY A virtual workshop titled 'Dignity in You' was conducted to develop an understanding of dignity and strengthen the values of self-worth. Students created thought-provoking posters to raise awareness about building cultures of dignity in our homes, schools, workplaces and communities. They also designed a dignity word wall where they described their understanding of dignity in one word. Additionally, students shared dignity stories in their PSHE lessons to talk about when they felt respected and made others feel dignified.
E-MAGAZINE
On the 45th Birthday of Beaconhouse, students shared their views about the influence of Beaconhouse on their lives and how the Beaconhouse Learner's Profile contributed positively to their learning and grooming. They also wrote about their gratitude towards the institution and wished Beaconhouse a very happy birthday.
DRAW FOR DREAMS Charity benefits the giver more than the receiver. As a way to help the community in difficult times, students of 10C Blue and Green organized a fundraiser called 'Draw for Dreams' as a part of their Global Perspectives Team Project.

PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL The first Virtual Elections for the Primary School Student Council were held in November 2020. Muhammad Mir Bakht of Class 5 Blue and Aiman Zia of Class 5 Green were elected as the Head Boy and Head Girl respectively.
PAKISTAN DAY INTER-SCHOOL CONTEST Pakistan Day Inter-School Virtual Contest for Classes 3-5 had 4 categories; Pen a Poem, Portray Pakistan, Sing & WinSolo and Choir Singing Contest. This virtual event was a great success with participation by 152 students from 25 Beaconhouse campuses all across Pakistan. The panel of judges included Ms Sana Talat, Ms Zaineb Siddiqui, Mr Agha Haider and Mr Zaheer Abbas. The winners received souvenir shields, while all participants received E-Certificates.
BREAKFAST CAFE Students of Classes 3, 4 & 5 participated in 'Breakfast Cafe', an activity in which they prepared breakfast items, such as sandwiches, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fresh fruit juice, omelette, cookies and cupcakes. They also learnt how to set a table and serve meals.
WORLD HEALTH DAY World Health Day is celebrated annually on April 7 each year and draws attention to the significance of health, a topic of concern for people all over the world. Students of Upper Primary School observed this day by making posters to create awareness about building a healthier world.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY To create awareness about the significance of celebrating International Women's Day on March 8, students of Class 5 presented a special morning assembly with inspiring speeches and poetry recitals to pay tribute to influential women 8
across the globe. A panel discussion moderated by Class 5 students included guest speakers, Senior Mistress, Ms Soofia Naveed, Middle School teachers, Ms Kiran Imran and Ms Nazish Saleem, and the female attendant, Razia Bibi. The guest speakers talked about their struggles, women empowerment, success stories and some tips for a successful life. The Principal, Ms Semee Shafqat talked about women's efforts in making the world a better place.
MELANGE 4.0 - VIRTUAL Melange 4.0 went virtual this year! With over 200 contestants from across the country, this 3day event comprised myriad categories. These included individual and team participation in 16 innovative and challenging categories. The e v e n t w a s o rg a n i z e d a n d managed by our very enterprising student council.
POETRY BY HEART An Inter-school poetry recital "Poetry by Heart" was organised for Middle School students. Students from several BSS campuses all over Pakistan took part in this competition enthusiastically. They recited poems by famous poets beautifully. The contest was judged by eminent writer, Ms Ayesha Mumtaz. Ms Ayesha appreciated the students' love for poetry and their participation.
WORKSHOP - SEEING THE DIGNITY IN OTHERS A virtual workshop “Seeing the Dignity in others" was conducted on October 16, 2020. The purpose of this workshop was to encourage students to see and honour the dignity of others and to celebrate the humanity we all share. Students participated in the discussion actively and expressed their views on the topic.
HAFTA-E-URDU ADAB
INTER-CLASS PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST To create awareness about the importance of dignity and the belief that we all deserve to live a life of dignity, an Inter-Class Virtual Photography Contest was organised for Classes 6 to 8. The theme of the Photography Contest was 'How Does Your Dignity Feel?' The photography entries reflected sensitivity towards treating others with dignity. The young photographers with the best photographs from each grade received.
MIDDLE SCHOOL ELECTIONS Haft-e-Urdu Adab is a regular annual feature of Beaconhouse activities and is celebrated with the purpose of inculcating a love for the Urdu language in our students. The Urdu centered activities this year were indeed exciting. Classes 6, 7 & 8 celebrated Hafta-e- Urdu Adab with special grade level activities. Class 6 conducted the "Chhoti Si Baat" activity, Class 7 students participated in an Urdu speech competition, and Class 8 students enthusiastically participated in Bait Bazi.
END OF YEAR PARTY
The positions of head boy and head girl are prominent representations of the student body. Middle School conducted elections for the post of Middle School Head Boy and Head Girl. Following a rigorous selection and online election process, Amna Zia was elected Head Girl and Hamza Iftikhar was elected Head Boy of Middle School.

IQBAL DAY CELEBRATIONS
Iqbal day is celebrated on 9th November every year as a tribute to acknowledge and commemorate the contributions of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the “Poet of the East” for the Muslims of the subcontinent. Class 6 students celebrated this day by performing role plays based on poems by Allama Iqbal. They paid tribute to the National Poet by expressing their views about Iqbal's effort in awakening the Muslim of the sub-continent to make them realize the importance of the need for a separate homeland. 9
BIFURCATION ORIENTATION SESSION A Vi r t u a l B i f u r c a t i o n Orientation Session was held for parents of Class 8 students by the Career Advisors from BCP Johar Town Campus. They discussed subject options for both, the Matriculation and O Level programmes. This was followed by a Q&A Session to address parents' queries about the various aspects of both streams. Similar sessions were conducted for students by the Principal, Ms Semee Shafqat.
URDU DECLAMATION CONTEST An Urdu Declamation Contest was organised for students of Classes 6 to 8. All students had the opportunity to participate in the initial round. The final round took place today on February 19, 2021. The bar was high as all the finalists were well prepared, spoke confidently and displayed excellent diction. The contest was judged by our Senior School English faculty. The Principal, Ms Semee Shafqat presented shields and certificates to the winners. The 1st prize winners were Muhammad Ibrahim from Class 6, Shayan Malik from Class 7 and Saim Rashid from Class 8.

To honour and to pay tribute to the women in our lives, an essay writing competition was held in Middle School. The topic of the essay writing competition was "The Most Influential Woman in My Life". Many students wrote about their mothers as their inspiration. The top three essays were selected from each level. Winners and participants were awarded certificates.
HISTORY COME ALIVE
QUIZOPHILE A quiz is the best way to assess students' learning. We put together a Social Studies quiz that helped us evaluate how well our students understood the concepts covered in class. The Grand Finale of Quizophile was organized on Friday, October 23 2020 in school. The four finalist teams were Ibn-Battuta, Xenophon, Herodotus and AlIdrisi, each comprising three students from each class level. The quiz consisted of three rounds. The winner of the Quizophile Grand Finale was team, Herodotus.
WOMEN’S DAY ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION
INTER-CLASS SPORTS GALA The enhancement of the physical and mental development of children is certainly the most important contribution of sports. An inter-class sports gala was organised for Middle School students. Maintaining COVID protocols, students competed in the pushup challenge, high knee jump challenge and some more competitive exercises.
The study of history is important both because it helps students to understand the past, and therefore the present, and because it teaches essential skills for discovering the truth. To inculcate a greater interest in history in our students, the activity “History Come Alive” was organised. The competition comprised two rounds in which students created storyboards and time-lapse videos to describe the chosen historical event. The best presentations were awarded certificates.
A SOLEMN PLEDGE! THE OATH TAKING CEREMONY The newly elected student council took the oath and were awarded sashes by the Principal. Our council members were motivated and enthusiastic after assuming office. The Principal congratulated the students on their first appointment and advised them to work towards the betterment of the school.
DASTAAN GOI The inter-school Dastaan Goi competition organized by our Senior School provided a competitive platform to over 80 students from schools all across the country. Dastaan Goi is a 13th century Urdu oral storytelling art form. The event was judged by artist, script writer and daastan goi expert, Mr Badar Khan. The winner of the contest was Alina Ismail from Beaconhouse Bahawalpur.
E-INTELLIGENCE CELEBRATING OUR LOVE FOR URDU Senior School students celebrated Hafta-e-Urdu with a lot of zeal and zest in November 2020. It inculcated the importance of our national language amongst the new generation. Senior School s tu d en t s p r es en ted ex p er t linguistic skills in Urdu during Bait-bazi, Role Plays, Mushaira and Drama to commemorate Iqbal Day.
E-intelligence was a Scientific Project Idea Competition that provided an opportunity to students to capitalize on their scientific wisdom and integrate it with their speaking potential. The young scientists presented their ideas in brief videos. The topics reflected the latest interests of the rapidly evolving scientific world. The winning projects were; Use of Nanoparticles for Alzheimer's Disease, Producing Hydrocarbons from Nails, and Harnessing Ocean Tides as a Source of Renewable Energy.
MATHEMAGICIANS OF SENIOR SCHOOL Beaconhouse Valencia Town Campus arranged a mathematical quiz “Mathemagical” to test students' problem solving and analytical skills. The event comprised two rounds. All students participated in the intial class-based round, while the winners from class or finalists formed the teams for the final round. The winning team was Pythagoras comprising Mahad Talha and Saad Raza from Class 9M and 9C.
BSU ACTIVITIES - LEARNING NEVER STOPS Undeterred by the unexpected pandemic, Beaconhouse put together and implemented the BSU forum as the latest and most appropriate pedagogical tool. Our students adapted to the online and hybrid systems almost immediately and participated in online classes actively. Furthermore, they also enjoyed a diverse range of cocurricular activities. Indeed, learning never stops at Beaconhouse!
