Do it The Azka Way Though now eclipsed by new exam schedules and more rigorous academic expectations, achieving 10A* in my Ordinary Level examinations was indeed the technicolor daydream of my younger self. I started my high-school as a commerce student, but then ventured out to engineering, sensing that I had a long-term interest in the latter. Little did I know that I’d also be taking a commerce subject, Economics, as one of my electives, and would end up achieving a regional distinction in it. In these three years of surviving rigorous routines, learning different tricks of the trade for each subject, and trying my level best to ace the tests, I have learned a legion of lessons. Whatever I have achieved is the product of a great support system. My learning curve throughout the three years has been massive, not just in academic aspects but also in social and personal dimensions. Be it battling through barriers in education created by the Coronavirus, or making my way through quite a few changes in career streams, my major takeaway has been the power of perseverance when it comes to one’s academic challenges. Grandmaster in the Making The day God bestowed man with the chess was the day man was complete. The integrality of chess at Qasimabad Campus needs no recognition. The game is a cult and impels and inspires its disciples, who learn the art of its dynamics until they meet perfection. Speaking of which, under the supervision of one of our chess guru, Sir Hafeez, Hasnain Khan avowed to win at all costs and proved just that through an intense yet enriching journey was merely a walk in the park for a Qasimabad Beaconite. He first, believing himself to be worthy after much painstaking practice, took part in the trials held in the campus, gaining widespread accreditation for his chess skills and catching the practiced eyes of the selection committee to compete in the Rockford Chess Tournament. His skills were of no match at the competition and crushing defeats of his adversaries paved a smooth way for him to the glory stand, making Hasnain realize he had an art in his hands and mind. In a streak of seven separate matches, he took home a swooning triumph for the under 13, boys’ category. Consequently, his win secured him a shot at the Intra-region chess competition held at Jubilee campus. Having moved onto a more paramount opportunity to win more gold, since he was crippling with gold fever, Hasnain depicted his soon-to-be-world class talent in the competition, leaving Miss Zenobia, the national hero, in awe. Also, she served a pivotal mentor-like role for Hasnain as well as the other contestants throughout the intra region chess competition. Reported by: Ariba Memon

Debate of the Titans The Beaconhouse parliamentary debate; a clash between two houses—proposition and opposition— is always for the ultimate benefit of humanity. The Debate Club is well known among the campus, and has a long legacy of presenting the audience with eye catching topics that immediately pique their interest. This time, the topic of the debate itself was a new concept, created by the respected English teacher and moderator of this debate. For all the hard work that has led up to this day, students of O-level got to face a tough challenge as they stepped foot onto the podium for the first time. This was no walk in the park, as all eyes were on the speakers of both houses, and their nerves had nearly gotten the best of them, yet their determination was far too strong, and they were not so easily defeated. Three judges—two seasoned teachers familiar with the fashion of parliamentary debates, and the experienced president of the Debate Club—remained eager to watch. Both teams were not a force to be reckoned with, and speakers of both houses speeched very passionately but rather impactful; thus, the air in the room was tense. There was so much to say with little to no time was a challenge for speakers. The participants had everyone hooked to what they preached. No matter what the POI darted their way, they had answers to. Everyone was on the edge of their seats as they waited for the results; the numbers that determined who had struck a greater impact. The principal had given a speech that left the room motivated and determined. The honorable judges had individually scored the teams, and at the end gave their honest opinions, with a margin of three marks, the proposition house had won, a well-deserved victory indeed. All remained victorious that day; they learned a lot of integral skills that will—no doubt—help them in the near future. Reported by: Alishba Shahid
