Message of the Month Dear Parents, A demanding and challenging term comes to an end and we are ready to meet the new challenges of the fterm2. We at Beaconhouse believe that high quality phonics work is most effective when it is a part of a broad and rich curriculum that engages students in a range of activities and exercises to develop their speaking and listening skills.

Throughout the term a number of enriched opportunities were given to the students to reinforce and apply acquired phonic knowledge and skills through reading and writing activities. Students are developing confidence to read and write words independently and they are at the stage to groom their comprehensive skills while going through a number of fun filled activities. We will inculcate the exposure of attempting comprehensions, reading the statements and instructions of questions and write descriptive paragraphs in our students to cope with Grade 1 in our up coming planning.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World Students will be encouraged to  identify and differentiate between pet and wild animals.  identify pet animals and their off springs .  understand and identify homes of pet animals and their eating habits.  identify different habitats of different animals.

Communication Language and Literacy Through the book ‘Jacob ‘0’ Rilley wants to have a pet’ , students will  recognize that books have a structure e.g, cover, title, author events and characters.  explain own views to group members.  raise and answer questions about the characters, settings, events etc. in the story.  use “oa and its alternates oe, ough, and ow in writing words and forming sentences. (boat, toe, dough and bow)  read the following high frequency words from the book to, was the, is, that, those, be, so , do .  use of initial and final blends in words and sentences (cl, dr, st, br, nk, rk )  identify and use compound words in sentences( starfish, butterfly, teapot, postman, football)  use “er, ir, ur” sound in writing words and forming sentences.
